  1. Not quite as impressive as the Green Lantern logo though... need to sell more shirts... The (now-famous) conduit continues underground on either side of the excavated hole @Tim Dasco.
  2. Announcement of their intent to invest in separate businesses like a hotel or golf attraction won't affect revenue now -- yet will potentially give an immediate bump in share prices -- while announcing a major ride 1-2 years in advance is very likely to impact sales and overshadow other theme park developments. When there's multi-million dollar investments like Doomsday Destroyer and Fright Nights that exist to sell tickets or memberships, you don't really want to muddy the waters with "But there's something even better coming next year!"
  3. No easy way of telling but a quick SQL query tells me there's currently 185 attachments here. A handful have made it into the database but of course there's only so many photos of dirt or footings we need.
  4. This is that footing nearest the road... definitely part of the ride: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/12256-2017_roller_coaster_construction/gallery/sort/newest/location/ride-2445/offset/19 While I think a lot of this micro-analysis of individual footing locations etc. might end up on the money, beyond a pretty general idea of track direction I think a lot of this is clutching at straws. It's connect-the-dots with maybe half the dots and a line that can do just about whatever it wants between the dots. At this point I'm not sure what is more impressive: that we've generated 38 pages of discussion about this without knowing the ride type, or that after 38 pages anyone that does know has kept their mouth shut.
  5. It shouldn't be peeling/lifting... this print method is meant to be good for 100+ washes. Remind me when I'm organising the next batch (I'll let folks know) and I'll get you a replacement... at least with screen prints we won't have this issue.
  6. It's been OK @AlexB... the first batch wasn't very big so it hasn't been all that hard to get to this point of being nearly out of stock. Agreed about the comfort of these shirts, and also about the vinyl print. We'll move to a more traditional screen print in future I think... the vinyl really stands out and is very crisp but you can definitely feel it. I haven't seen the stretching issue with the logo myself. I'm guessing we're talking a millimetre or less of movement/gap as the tolerances should be pretty tight with the red and white sections? A traditional screen print would fix this too. @MaxxTheMonster, the current American Apparel shirt we offer only goes up to 2XL. We might be able to work in a few one-offs into the next batch if we can get it all locked in before we place an order. We do need to clear most of the current stock before I'll even start thinking about the next batch. As I'm sure I said when we started this, there's really no margin on the first shirts as we just wanted to get it out there and gauge interest, so unfortunately I'm not sitting on a big pile of funds right now to dive headfirst into every possible idea.
  7. Just a heads up to anyone that was interested in getting their hands on a Parkz t-shirt (either by joining the Parkz Crew or on its own), numbers for all sizes are pretty low, but we're down to just one XL and one Medium t-shirt in stock. Still a handful of Small and Large remaining though, but these will be gone before too long as well. When stock runs out we'll likely try a different t-shirt design for the next one, so this is your last chance to get your hands on this shirt for now.
  8. To me the test should be: Is someone trying to pass someone else's content off as their own, implicitly or explicitly? Is the content for any purpose other than the sharing of news/knowledge/information? Is someone trying to gain hits/likes/money/traffic by sharing the content? If the answer is no to all of these then I see no issue either legally or morally. We've had content borrowed/shared/stolen from Parkz by other sites, forums, FB pages and even theme parks and major news outlets for 14+ years now... this is just my view obviously, but at this point I couldn't care less so long as there's appropriate credit given.
  9. Isn't this exactly what all our theme parks do on a daily basis when they co-opt others' Instagram/FB photos for their own pages? Or how the entire Internet and social media works these days? Sharing photos from other sources is completely fine provided credit is provided.
  10. So long as no one broke any rules, did anything stupid or pestered any staff then I don't see the harm in sharing photos of anything and everything. That's pretty much the Parkz policy. I think it all looks really great and any publicity by way of photos on Parkz is only going to help build hype at this point.
  11. Dug through my emails to find a higher resolution version of that photo if anyone wants to play CSI with those blueprints...
  12. A $3 billion casino development is not going to be a gaudy/sleazy 1970s Vegas casino covered in flashing lights. It'll be a 5/6-star resort built to attract the Asian high-roller market. You wouldn't even know it's a casino from the outside. The proximity to Sea World and what they are sacrificing, in addition to suggestions of the park expanding indicates that the project will benefit the park. It would almost certainly see significant redevelopment and consultation with Sea World. Between gaming laws/regulations and mutual best interests I think it's safe to say that there will be nothing you need to protect your children from.
  13. Mack's large-scale coasters all utilise the exact same track, support and train technology. Like the Superman Escape (Intamin) example, the forces and structural requirements will dictate what style or size of various components are used at different points on the ride. If you were trying to figure it out based on the footings, then a launched coaster would have a lot of close supports in a straight line, while Mack's lift hills feature a box truss track with only a few sparsely placed support columns.
  14. I think the parks are all definitely a bit more clued in these days when it comes to building hype and engaging fans early in the process with teasers, staged leaks etc. Of course the flip-side to that is that they're also now better at keeping things under wraps when they want to, so I wouldn't necessarily proclaim it as a win-win, especially considering that it's not normally official announcements but rather photos and credible rumours that give us most of the important information ahead of a new attraction. Do we really think that the Mack crates were all part of a grand scheme to quietly leak a bit of information to the more dedicated fans? I think that would be awesome if it were the case... but I think it's much more likely that the creative/marketing/management folks are all up to their elbows in Doomsday and Fright Nights and probably didn't anticipate identifiable parts showing up so early in the piece.
  15. Thanks to the awesome work of @Theme Park Ninja, @themagician, @Theme Park Girl and @JaggedJanine for the regular photo contributions in the forums, whose photos we've linked and credited in the update. Hopefully these updates combine the best of both worlds... the regular updates from members plus a bit of technical insight and explanation.
  16. Three cycle types existing is one thing; this has been pretty widely reported since the ride style was revealed so I shouldn't think there's anything new there. Whether -- and how -- the park utilises them is a completely different matter. Don't forget there's also likely different cycle lengths and other options that Movie World will be able to fine tune over time. It may well be possible to run the arms on independent cycles, one or two of them may turn out to be unsuited or unpopular with the vast majority, or they may choose to run the ride on different settings at advertised times. Having separate cycle queues isn't the most practical or only option, and I'm sure they've looked at how Dreamworld do it on Pandamonium and how successful that is.
  17. The discussion about the Doomsday Destroyer ride cycles has been moved to the construction thread: Let's try and keep this one as on-topic about the tour as we can; if there's tidbits/facts from the tour relating to other attractions worthy of discussion then try and find a home for it in an existing or new topic. The tour has also been added to the database: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/AU/Gold_Coast/Warner_Bros_Movie_World/ride/2869-Star_Tour_-_Access_All_Areas For those that have been on it, updates/corrections/photos etc. are welcome. And of course check it off in your profile!
  18. I thought we fixed this last time it happened... evidently not. It *should* be fixed and not happen with future articles...
  19. Sometimes the authentication bridge between the forums and main site doesn't work correctly and you need to click Login in the site menu -- it'll redirect you back to the page you were on. It's actually meant to prompt you if you try and add a review when you're not recognised as logged in. I'll fix that in the next round of updates.
  20. Not quite as sophisticated as Mitch Hawker's @Slick, but I think a reasonably sound method for ranking. It's a modified version of the algorithm used on the IMDb Top 250 list... scaled down for the size of this site. Glad to see Abyss getting some love from those that have ridden. By all accounts it's worthy of a higher spot than it currently has, even if it's probably not the best-in-Australia that some proclaimed when it opened.
  21. 300-odd reviews from you guys and this is what you came up with as the answer to this question: http://www.parkz.com.au/search/rides/ride_type/1/location/country-AU/sort/rating The ranking algorithm takes into account how many reviews a ride has, and balances that against the average of all reviews. So every single review has an impact on every other ride rating to some extent... it gets smarter and more accurate with more reviews. The more reviews an individual ride has, the more the algorithm will trust that ride's average, while a ride with only one or two reviews will be more conservatively weighted (up or down depending on where it sits in relation to the average of all rides). (Disclaimer: I just gave Surfrider what I'd consider a fair 5/10 review to bump it out of the top 10.)
  22. We're here to talk Doomsday Destroyer folks. If you've got an issue with someone, take it up with them personally or report it to us if it's serious. All we ask that everyone acts like an adult...
  23. I probably wasn't clear enough, but like you're saying @AlexB, it is self-promotion and is not something we want to see on Parkz. I tried to keep my reminder gentle because I know we've let a lot of this slip by unmoderated and I don't particularly want to come down hard on any specific member. It feels like there's been more talk about theme park pages than actual theme parks lately...
  24. Just a quick reminder of our policy in terms of promotion: Share content you're not involved with -- links to sites, Facebook pages etc. Share your own content here by uploading the photos/videos directly and/or embedding YouTube videos. Don't promote websites, Facebook pages etc. that you are involved with. If the content is good then others will do the sharing for you, but things just get out of hand if it's just a free-for-all "hey check out my page". Full details are of course pinned at the top of the forum.
