I think a WOC style nighttime show would be really easily achieveable - Waltzing Waters (http://liquidfireworks.com/) can do amazing stuff on a budget - One only has to look at the spongebob show at Sea World to see how simple it can be, yet thoroughly entertaining. As for lowering them - Disney solved this problem with WOC, and the design is fairly simplistic (although whether it's patented would be the problem - if Disney can - they have.) As for the ski show - I think they could certainly do something like the former ski show - but all of the big setups - where the boats went down to the bridge to establish the formation (ie: the pyramid) as well as build up enough speed would be much harder - and i think the show would suffer as a result.

Well, for those who are otherwise occupied on saturday nights - eg: have to work, etc - having it on only one day of the week is a pain. At least if it were on fri\sat, or even a sunday - perhaps Sunday 24th - considering the monday is a public holiday for Anzac day. Side note - have we heard any word from the parks on trading hours for Anzac day yet? My memory is fuzzy but i seem to remember some parks haven't opened in previous years. Opening from 1pm to 5pm is stupid IMO though - so a later night's trade (eg: another Carnivale) could be good (although that would need to be weighed up against those who would consider it an insult to hold a carnivale event on Anzac day - so not sure.... :S )

Pretty spot on Joz. It's sad that MW gets most of the love - I'd like to see them set up in such a way that regular night time events were a thing - as more people would be able to get there easily - and head to surfers afterwards to keep enjoying the night. Putting aside the expensive factors - what could they realistically achieve in a short period of time - ie: what should they start on first? Should they put the coaster in sans anything else? Or should they build the pier and add to it over time?

Practically everything east, south and west of the Giant Drop is in the shadow of the giant drop... at some point. How did we get from a Log Ride age\query to saying Giant Drop is getting on in years too? I don't think anyone is suggesting that GS is in anyway in need of replacement. its still a fantastic ride and should live on for many years.

This is my favourite part so far. I'm quite surprised in all her (obvious) research and information gathering that nothing was said about the court rulings specifically stating "piss off, the park was there first, Nyah Nyah Nyah!" Sounds like a wonderfully perfect trip to the park (sans mouse). I love reading Megan's TR's!

the gameplay looks good. Not sure if its intentional, but after a little while, all of the "missions" take an hour or more - it's a good excuse to put the device down and do something else for a while. So far, the best part about it is their use of music. Worst part is the lack of guidance between the story and the mission - ie: "cheer up pete" in the story, somehow translates to "make pete a sandwich"

Eureka Mountain Mine Ride reopening discussion
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to rappa's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Or, it could be that they had scheduled Eureka to be reopened at around the time the shirts were released, so with forward thinking, they inserted it into the design, and then with the unexpected Cub arrival and numerous other spanners in the works, Eureka got put on the back burner, and someone in marketing and merchandise learned a valuable lesson about counting big thrill rides before they're hatched! -

This is the fault with Bermuda's pre-show. It was a good pre-show, but if it grates on you with repeated viewings, it doesn't work. It was great at telling the story, but it has to be enjoyable regardless of the number of times you see it. (as mentioned though - you were still queueing - so it was designed to 'occupy' some of that queue time) I'm thinking Mystic Manor's pre-show (which is totally animatronic and projection - no live actors), which must be watched regardless of queue. For those that haven't seen that, then ToT in Disney - just a video, short, sharp, scene setting. Both of these cannot be skipped, both of these i've had to endure with an empty queue and unoccupied ride operators ahead, but there was no 'impatience' to just 'get on with it' like I felt when queueing for Bermuda. I'm not saying it's a bad preshow, and it does tell the story very well - for the budget it was probably the best they could do and they do it well for a single ride - but re-rides are where it falls down. Just my opinion.

Whilst this will give them a great "most-weather" venue in-park for events, i think the park as a day-guest has been in desperate need of this. With the exception of queuehouses, the park is severely lacking in covered areas for shelter, other than main gate. I look forward to it I wouldn't read too much into it - the artist's impression is meant to paint the 'picture perfect' look. I doubt sea world would ditch these. I would like to see them open the railway gate as a result of this however and finally allow a bypass. I feel like they will have to open the gate for the construction period anyway - and once they open it - it will prove that there is no reason for it to be closed!

See - the screenshot @OceanGirl posted doesn't represent that they had arrived 'today' just that they had been spotted. If the photo was the same - credit is due. if the article is reproduced from another source - credit is due. but if he took a trip down to the park, took a photo, and posted it saying 'the first parts have been spotted' - i don't take issue with that. He isn't claiming to be first from what I can see there. For the same reason with things like Kevil Hill, and green lantern - if his source is this site - credit is due - but if he found out from the park the same way members on here found out from the park - then it isn't really an issue, is it? How do we prove it, unless either the photos, or the article are the same? Take a look at nightly news - big stories have reporters on scene from all networks. Does that mean if channel 7 got there first that all the other reporters have to give credit to them? No. Likewise though - where the network is the only one with footage, when it is reproduced on other networks, it usually has a watermark showing the network who owns the footage.

You could theoretically slow the launch down, and install a kicker wheel at a strategic point in the track - just as Jet Rescue has a second launch... If we're trying to make it more family friendly - then more sidecars, less motorbikes. Hell - make it all sidecars. then theme it to a luge, or paint them brown and call it kangaroo poo express. At least it would suit the environment around it...

Dear Dreamworld- A Review (Attraction Pass)
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to jarvo_325's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Could not have said it better @bjkaus - thankyou for sharing your views on this. The video is couched in terms of 'making people aware of this discrimination' but it just reads as 'everyone should get on the bandwagon and abuse this place because they were mean to me' -

I won't profess to be an expert on building codes or the various DDAs in effect across the country, but being built in 1991, wouldn't the current guttering and pathway be grandfathered or something like that? The foothpath is themed to the roadway for mainstreet - it needs guttering. The footpath has pedestrian ramps \ dips scattered along both sides of the path all the way up main street. The guttering was laid prior to park opening, when the attraction in that area (the studio tour \ MMSFX show) queued back down near batwing - conveniently right next to the ramp I'm not aware of the BCC issue, but i'm guessing the lift was a long distance away from the stairs? The park has a ramp on the other side of the cul de sac, not even 10 metres away - and when you enter the park, you do enter on the level of that path - you'd have to go down onto the roadway and walk across before realising you have to go back up? If that was where you were heading, wouldn't you just walk around in the first place rather than negotiate two ramps, when you have to go around the fountain anyway? Edit: Just looked at nearmap, and my estimates are a bit out - the ramp on the opposite (entrance) side of the cul de sac is about 25 metres away, however it appears there is a path ramp approximately 7 metres to the right of the SE entrance - in front of the ticket\tour sales booth, and I seem to remember this area being fenced off on a visit quite a while ago. Given the obvious access issues relating to a single pathway during construction, I don't think a ramp 7 metres away should be cause for an issue. I stand by my previous post that it'd be nice if they had a ramp AT THAT POINT, but 7 metres isn't really a hardship, is it? -

Dear Dreamworld- A Review (Attraction Pass)
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to jarvo_325's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I thought i'd have a read of this one, and the whole way through, i'm waiting for the negatives. The downsides. The problems. We all know Movie World has these, and even with a fastpass, I expected to hear some negatives. I started to think that everything was just way to rosy just to be an opinion piece... of course at the end - the little disclaimer that the writer visited the park as a guest of movie world - so its a promo piece, not a legitimate opinion. I'm not knocking a little bit of promotion to their target audience - and its far cheaper than TV advertising... but I don't think it's fair for them to write a completely rosy picture and not address that there are a few negatives. Reading this has given me another thought as to why the entrances are different - In JL - kids go first as the carriage has a high side, and if the door were to fly open, the adult is less likely to fall out of the gap, and more likely to hold on. With Wild West - because you're stepping over the side and down into the log, there's a risk little Johnny might slip on his way in - smash his face open and shut down the ride - at least temporarily - those logs are wet! Plus - with the parent still on the dock, they are substantially higher than the child - who - if they slip, might overbalance the parent and result in them falling too. By having the adult go first, they are more likely to have a stable balance, hold on if needed, and less likely to smash their face as they have a better developed 'fall' instinct too. Once inside the log, they're lower than the child, and they can reach up to lift the child down and get them properly seated. I'm sure there could be other reasons, but i'm fairly certain this would be it. Ok so I still haven't seen the video, but i'm assuming based on comments that we're talking about a family, who visited from New Zealand, went to the park with a differently abled family member, and were disappointed when they found out. Ok - I've just seen the video as posted by Iwerks (Thanks @iwerks!) and I have to say this video makes me VERY angry... at the people who posted it. For starters - the video says they pre-purchased their tickets online. ONLINE. Now - many places the world over are set up to cater for persons with different abilities. Disney does it wonderfully - however, there are still adjustments to be made - Take Haunted Mansion for example. A wheelchair bound guest cannot disembark at the exit, instead riding their doom buggy through the maintenance section of the omnimover system (hidden by a curtain) and getting off at the start of the ride to re-ride back through the stretching rooms to ground level. What i'm saying though - is that wheelchair access sometimes provides a few hurdles. There may be different entrance points, or ramps located in odd places, so checking in advance to find out what kind of issues or restrictions there might be helps you pre-plan your day. I just went to the dreamworld website. clicked on 'park info' and amongst several options was one for 'guests with disabilities' - sounds like a no brainer. https://www.dreamworld.com.au/park-info/guests-with-disabilities On this page, they explain in detail about what you should do if you have a guest with a disability. Alicia DOES HAVE a disability. Although she has gross motor control, her cerebral palsy does impact on her ability to hold on. I have no idea what's going on at Rainbow's End - but I cannot imagine allowing someone onto a Disk'O without the ability to grab the handles - one could potentially break their spine due to the lateral forces. As for Rainbow's end - and using Alicia's ability to ride there as a reason why she should be allowed to ride here is crazy. That's like an american coming to australia, and having a blood alcohol content of 0.08 while driving because thats what they do back home? There is no reason or excuse for them not to have known what was required before coming as it is clearly posted on the website (the way back machine confirms it's been there prior to their visit too). If they'd read this, they'd also have realised that they could purchase a cheaper admission ticket at the gate for Alicia, due to the restrictions. Next up is the claim that the ticket booth staff didn't say anything about them needing a rider pass. Well... i'll have to throw back to the website here again, as it says once you have a rider pass, it's valid for 6 months, so you don't have to go there every time (and I must say this is better than VRTP who issue a wristband with punch holes that only works the day you're there). Would it have been nice for the ticket staff to enquire whether they had a pass already? Definitely, and this might point to some training needed for the ticket staff - especially at the wide-access gate... but given they were with locals (who I presume were passholders) they might have assumed the locals knew what they were doing. Would it have hurt for them to ask the gate attendant themselves? or did they just expect it to be presented on a platter? By the sounds of things, the ride attendant at shockwave was following the rules, incredibly apologetic and directed the guests appropriately to the place they needed to be. The staff at the first aid centre also sound like they were quite friendly. The staff could have had a quiet word with Alicia's carer if she wished to avoid embarassment to explain that there were rides she would not be able to go on, rather than just give them the pass and let them find out for themselves, and for this I fault Dreamworld, but again - arguing that she's done that particular ride in another country doesn't mean the park should bend their rules. No mention is made of whether she rode Corkscrew at RE, so not sure how she sits with 'being able to ride everything' and i'm almost certain she wouldn't be able to - but that is just opinion, not fact. I'm dubious about the quoted wait time - especially since it was phrased "about half an hour" despite the video stating that the gopro was on record the whole time, so it would have been possible to state down to the second how long that process took. Like we all know - waiting in queues feels like longer unless you have something to do. However - I'm assuming the staff member responsible for rider assessment is probably employed there as a first aid nurse or similar, and for all we know they were attending to an injury at the other side of the park. Medical needs should always take priority over disabilities - but blow me down if the park didn't offer them a queue jump for their trouble, which despite saying valid only once - they admit they used many times, gaining an unfair advantage over other park guests - most of which would have been kids by the sounds of the rides she was allowed to do. And while i'm mentioning the gopro - how dare they not only record staff without their knowledge or permission, but then post it online! Of course, they've now edited the video to remove those parts, but to do so in the first place is unacceptable. And finally, i'm disgusted at the use of the word "discrimination" as they were never discriminated against, except for their health and safety - which is lawful in Australia under the Disability Discrimination Act. This video represents in entirety a smear against Dreamworld. A blow for which they try to lessen at the end by redirecting their issue at the manufacturers of the rides and parks worldwide. Of course, the fact that she has ridden the RE version of Shockwave makes it seem like the manufacturer claim isn't quite true, but then the rider assessment can be subjective for the person making the assessment each day, and you could potentially get two different results based on who did the assessment. Unfortunately, the park has final say in matters such as this, and whilst its very sad Alicia wasn't able to ride certain things, the video portrays the park as uncaring. They claim they should have been told before arriving at the gate (they were - https://www.dreamworld.com.au/park-info/guests-with-disabilities) - everything after that, whilst certain elements could have been done better by dreamworld - was entirely their own fault. I'm prepared to get flamed on some of the opinions i've expressed here. I'm certainly happy to read a reasonable response and have a civilised debate - and i'll happily admit if i've got something wrong too. Unreasonable, petty or insulting responses will receive the same in reply.
