  1. You're comparing prices with California, and doing it very badly. The $1000+ price point you quote is for the top level, unrestricted pass with no blockouts, and passholder benefits. Try the deluxe passport, which is only $599 - which gets you TWO Disney parks (DL and DCA) - so about $300 each... So bingo - you're at your price point. The blockouts are reasonable too - two weeks over christmas, and the two days around valentines day is all you're missing out on in the next three months. You also get up to 10% off food, and 10% off select merchandise. Also - Passholders get passholder only events, and there are also many other benefits (like limited edition collector pins and other souvenirs) that ONLY passholders can get. Already you're getting more than our three park pass, and for a price point (per park) that you consider reasonable. However, if you want to make a comparison to a Disney Park suitable for Australia - look at Hong Kong as your first stop. Annual passports there start from $1078HKD - which according to google currently is about $192AUD. Remember also, that that is for a single park... which is what we're talking here... Finally (as has been said already) - if a pass pricing is required to take into account your particular financial circumstances, then we'll never have passes again... but note that in the case of California - you can choose to pay your pass off over 12 months just like VRTP do - in the case of the deluxe passport it'll set you back $99 upfront, and a further $41.67 per month. Although it is pricey - its unlikely to send you bankrupt, and for me - i consider that to be well worth the money. https://ticketstore.disney.go.com/Webstore/shop/ViewItems.aspx?merchant=APWS&categoryGroupExternalID=NAP01&categoryExternalID=NAP03 As mentioned, you could settle for the $600 option and pay it off, but i'm quite happy for Disney to set a price point on an annual pass that kind of ensures that the park won't be overrun with teens on school holidays who go because its basically free. I've been a passholder on the coast for several years until recently, and I would avoid the coast like the plague in the christmas \ new year period for that reason... so if their price point means some people would 'never fork out' for their passes - that makes me a happy guy. And thats quite reasonable... especially for Singapore - which I would argue is a similar market to HKDL. The USA Disney parks are just something special - they obviously have enough people willing to pay that much money to be a passholder. Can you imagine how full the park would be if the californian annual passes were cheaper?
  2. Yeah - the question is pretty wide open, so i'm not surprised with the first few answers as they're just as widely open. More detail is needed to be able to give you better answers.
  3. Of course it did - they're hoping to scare people that it's "still broken". the big question is whether it made the mnews?
  4. They do have maps where the roof is a 'ghost' over the street, which is fine for general operations - but in FN where there are multiple attractions under the roof I can imagine it would be easier to not show it at all... i mean it's not like people are gonna look at the map and say 'nah this isn't the spot - this place has a roof over it!'
  5. forget GL.... CHINATOWN is open again??? or is it JUST during WC? Certainly a space they should be utilising all the time - especially for crowd control at events.
  6. Loose items are unlikely to cause mechanical issues - most loose items policies are either: designed to raise revenue from locker fees to prevent injury to spectators walking under \ around the ride to reduce issues where numbnuts drop their hat \ phone \ wallet inside the ride envelope, requiring ride shutdown to retrieve them. to increase loading speed as people don't need to stow belongings when they sit down Final destination style incidents aren't likely.
  7. Oh Please. the ship has long ago sailed on those kinds of discussions, but in short, try this as a starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorsport_in_Australia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Australian_motor_racing_series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_Supercars#Gold_Coast_600 It makes sense when motorsport is such a large industry within Australia, and one of the biggest V8 events (arguably the V8 events are the epitome of 'Australian' motorsport) is hosted on the coast not far from the park itself - i should think it would stand to reason that Motorsport as a theme would work really well. For further information - see all the previous posts made about this subject somewhere in the last 50 pages of this thread.
  8. Many moons ago, Lethal Weapon was repainted by these guys: http://www.performancepaintingco.com.au/projects/hospitality/movieworld-lethal-weapon/ The website info has changed, but I do remember there was some info about how long it took and the machinery they used. I'm pretty sure it took about 8 weeks or more... and they had an entirely closed envelope to work in - they didn't have to contend with waterslides, and public access areas. Plus - last thing you want to do is put up a brand new paint job and then have a new train that isn't properly calibrated grind it all off with an improperly aligned bogey. Given the difficulty of it surrounding WWW, i'm not sure they'll bother unless absolutely necessary. 9. I'm going to assume this is another of Totta's paint shop creations that did not come from Dreamworld, and as usual, has been posted with no source or explanation. Totta - this doesn't help.
  10. I rather enjoyed the take on Disney, whilst at the same time appalled and shocked that anyone would go to Orlando and spend only a single day on Disney property. i took the humor, disregarded the negatives. Many TRs I flick through on a TL:DR basis, but i decided to read the disney one and am now interested in going back over the rest. I can sorta agree with what Rappa is saying, but the style of writing is still interesting.
  11. All they would need to do is reopen Chinatown Alley, and suddenly Gotham Cafe could be linked to Arkham, to SE, to JL and GL. Chinatown Alley could be rethemed to something Gotham - that way you're walking through Gotham from Gotham City Hall to the Arkham Asylum... not that hard. I totally agree with everyone that a repaint would have been nice, and solidified the new theme well (no matter what colour they went with). Orange (i'm sure Sea World has some left over from SeaScrew) would have worked well as many hot wheels track sets are orange... what i'm trying to say though is that few people (if any) complained about the paint job prior to the Hot Wheels announcement. The only complaints were theme, train and queue - and we know they've changed 2, and it waits to be seen whether the third is done also - put simply - they've fixed everything that we on here have complained about - and instead of going 'awesome - they fixed all those things we complained about' - we simply move onto something else to complain about? Perhaps there is a repaint in the works - but perhaps with the weather (it is storm season) and the approaching summer season, they didn't have the time. Maybe they're repainting after the Xmas holidays, and we'll see a new colour rise up in February? I think Rappa is right (over on the DH discussion) that many of us can never be pleased and must always have something to complain about. Right now i'm just keen to see what a new train can do to the old girl - and hopefully it gives the coaster a new lease on life for years to come.
  12. They may very well have had more staff rostered, but people called in sick, and they weren't able to replace them in time. The park does get a reputation for poor staffing levels, and these are things they should focus on - especially with night events, but all the rostering in the world can't help you if your staff don't come in.
  13. ^but that's just it. If you go over discussion threads on Cyclone in the past, discussion always surrounding the pathetic theme, the lack of upkeep on the theme etc. I don't think anybody has said the paint job on cyclone was crap, and it's only with the re-theme that anyone suggested that a re-paint was necessary. Now that we've figured out that they won't have the time to do it - many are crying that they didn't repaint it.. the question is was it necessary to do so in order for the theme to work? Now - if it were a V8SC theme, or some other 'actual' racecar story, i'd say yes. but hot wheels track isn't black with white lines. it's colourful. Is it the colour of the cyclone track - no. but does it really matter? One could argue that my hot wheels track was yellow, with blue supports, and consequently the two yellow 'rails' of the track fit perfectly with the hot wheels theme. (granted the supports aren't the same blue but it wouldn't be hard to fix) My main point is - if a re-paint was Soooooo necessary because it looked filthy and was really affecting the aesthetics of the park - where were all the fanboy complaints before the refurb was announced? My searches revealed this topic: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/topic/6863-cyclone-beginning-of-the-end/#comment-109042 and most people say all it needed was fixing the theme, fixing the queue, and replacing the train. I believe Dreamworld are in the process of doing that - although it waits to be seen what fixes they can do with the queueline...
  14. something in me doesn't feel right - AndrewH = ThemeTendo? just my thoughts...
  15. Wasn't he the middle child in Hanson?
  16. Its so cute how you think you know more than others.
  17. I'm aware of Wendy's (Ice Cream) and Brumbys (Bakery) but since when are they "fast food"? Neither of them generally supplies anything you could consider a fast meal - which i'd consider would be a "main" a "side" and a "drink", with dessert a possible option... so burger, chips, drink, or noodle box, prawn crackers, drink, or burrito, chips, drink. I realise Wendy's do hot dogs, but I don't see that as their core business. I also realise Brumbys do savoury food items, but again - it's not their core business. As for Wokinabox - there are 19 stores in SA (which means they're bigger than ben hur down there)... but there are none in NSW or VIC, and according to their website - there are only two in QLD - Broadbeach and Mackay-Mt Pleasant. WA has 12. That is hardly what i'd call 'well known'... especially when the vast majority of the Australian Population resides on the eastern coast - which has just two stores. That means they're as qualified to be called 'well known' as the Burrito Bar that currently has 12 locations across Brisbane (i have one less than a kilometre from my house. I still don't consider them well known). As for Mad Mex - well - QLD has 5 locations, one of which must have just opened next to my office this year - but as one is inside the BNE international airport, i don't really think that counts. They've certainly got a presence in greater metro Sydney - they have 3 airport stores, and over 20 across the Sydney basin, as well as 10 in VIC, 7 in WA, 2 in ACT and 1 in SA. Out of all of them on the list, this is the only one i'd concede is a 'well known fast food brand' - just one i wasn't aware of.
  18. ^Milk Crate. How can you see loose item storage, but not the train? Where were you standing?
