  1. I'd have thought that too... perhaps the dates available to VIP gold aren't the full dates... and that's why they're available to gold now, without releasing to the public? perhaps they couldn't get the necessary equipment \ contractors for those dates? perhaps the lighting guy is going away for christmas and they need him to bump out before he goes? Maybe they want to have the park back to 'normal' before the major interstate crowds hit?
  2. which are conveniently commencing the first day of QLD school holidays... NSW will miss out however as their holidays don't start until the 20th. I've booked the 15th, in the hope that a thursday won't be as busy, and also that its more likely that we'll see Green Lantern open by then.
  3. The dates are 10-18 December as shown on the VIP Gold booking site.
  4. And GL being more intimidating than buzzsaw is a bad thing? What do you mean you're not sure about the placement? Where should it have gone? On the grass on the other side of the carpark next to the highway? oh.. wait... nevermind.
  5. So they went with option number two... Seems a bit silly though to sell "cheap" passes that are specifically just for the busy summer holiday period... But from a business perspective, there's a lot of teenager's Christmas presents... So I guess it makes sense from that angle.
  6. So I'm not sure on the details, but we were watching circus of the damned tonight, and saw a Queensland fire truck drive down the back access road, and then when we came out, scooby and the 3d maze were closed, with the exit shutters down. I'm thinking perhaps something triggered the fire alarm? I wonder if scoobys fire sensing eyes kicked in? Or maybe the roof lifted off? Lol. But seriously... Anyone know more?
  7. I'd like to see them bring back a "locals only" style pass - QLD postcodes only - your locals won't spend on merch and F&B as much as the tourists, but it is easy for them to make frequent trips to the parks - so a couple of bucks each visit will make more from them in the long run. Also - having them available only for a limited time means you force people to make a decision early, rather than deciding to get one for christmas, making peak season even more unbearable (pass processing centre also). Allowing people to reuse the same pass, and simply "electronically" extending them is also a great idea. The VIP needs to replace the traditional "annual pass", at a pricepoint somewhere between the two. $200ish, with your buy 3 get one free offer, and add in hallowe'en and christmas events (maybe another one for easter?), and toss in some minor discounts on merch or F&B (the gold VIP had a booklet of discount offers that were quite popular) and I think they're on a winner. If Dreamworld keeps their pass at the same markers, they run the risk of appearing "inferior", so they'll follow with something similar too. That being said, i don't think we'll see it return until june\july.
  8. The one at adrenaline park (the old Skyhawk from Wonderland) has now been removed, along with the bungee tower. The vomitron, slingshot and bungee tramps are still there though - think this is because of the end of lease that occurred a year or so ago. Had a hotel room overlooking it last night while i was down working at the GC 600... so got a good look at it's replacement - a SEGWAY racetrack! As for the "sense of urgency" signs... i think we'd need some stronger wording and perhaps even a cattle prod for some of our ops...they're completely oblivious to their queue times... they need their supervisors to challenge them to drop their queue time without compromising safety... if Disney could do it i don't see why we couldn't... Yes
  9. I can't see why it couldn't be part theme park and part cruise ship... most, if not all attractions could operate during calm seas as well... At the end of the day, there are no obstacles that they could not overcome. All you need to do is watch some of the discovery channel engineering programs for a few hours to see just how amazing somethings are that we build these days... whether it's commercially viable or not is another matter - but i think it would be a great way for Disney to reach out to every corner of the globe.. give those that don't have the means to get to a park to experience disney... and understand what all those who HAVE been mean when they refer to the "disney standard"
  10. I do know that they generally require you to do the beginner's course first - i think it's more of a habit forming exercise - get you used to "clip on, clip off, clip on". Because the beginner's course is close to the ground, if you screw up you aren't falling far, and the staff can keep a closer eye on you to make sure you're doing it right... after that you're pretty well right to go on whichever one you like.
  11. T'bird park also has the thunder egg mine and horse riding, and a nice restaurant \ function centre and camp ground. I've been to tambourine only, and i'd recommend it (and this was before their refurb at the end of last year - haven't been since. if you're into that sort of thing, it's well worth it... allow a whole day, and don't try to do it back to back... take plenty of water etc.
  12. In the same post - make up your mind... which is it?
  13. i've noticed on a number of occasions the bolts \ screws \ rivets whatever missing from those queue rails. some have been replaced with a substitute that is very obviously not made for it.
  14. ^ and technically, in the scheme of things, you could also say it had 6...
  15. It's killing me that i can't find the evidence to back this up... but i know someone will know exactly what i'm talking about - a few months ago, a video came about from TPR of a coaster (in asia i think?) that had some insane forces on it - and the coaster simply went like this: ___ ) ---- (___ Wish I could explain this better... but it just tipped you upside down, then right way up, then upside down again, with the track overlapping itself each time... SOMEONE has to understand this pathetic explanation... and when they do, and post the video or link, tell me how this, which starts with an OUTWARDS curvature initially, is NOT an inversion?
  16. Wheres difference to their current business model, except that the rides wouldn't be installed permanently? EVERY attraction in that park is, to the best of my knowledge a travelling attraction... from wildmouse, to RNRR, Mozzie Musta to Dodgems. The park is nothing but travelling attractions in a permanent home. What's wrong with a couple more that change seasonally? I don't think that would make it any "cheaper" They tried that by installing a Disko... what happened? oh yeah - a major theme park with millions to blow one-upped them and stole their thunder. not abrasive, but remember everything here is just opinion... and everyone is entitled to their own.
  17. Here's my suggestion to AW management - IGNORE THAT SUGGESTION. Whilst I have not been to the park since the Disk'o and the Flume construction began, THE most solid attraction in the park can be found inside that pink building. Sure, Rock N Roll Rebel isn't the best flat ride you've ever seen, but the efforts that they've gone to to make it more than just your run of the mill 'Tango Train' style attraction. In my opinion, it's the best (non recent?) addition to the park. Also, to get rid of one dark ride, that IS popular and fun, to build another isn't a good idea. Look at how many people have complained about the closures of LTRR and BA-TR. Look at how many suggestions people have made for dark rides at MW. The park could definitely use another dark ride, but it shouldn't replace an existing one to do so. Making a ride choice based on the "lucrative opportunity" to host what... 5 night time events a year for hallowe'en is also missing the mark. On that kind of budget, you'll be hard pressed getting much more than your standard travelling "ghost train" made out of sheet metal, banging its arse off every time a car goes through. Besides, the idea is flawed in another way... building the RnRR building up another story isn't possible - the structure isn't designed for it. It'd be cheaper to build a brand new structure TBH. Don't lose RnR Rebel... Something i'd suggest - get a decent size area... say minimum 50x50 metres... maybe 100x50... and have seasonal attractions during holiday periods... just like Luna Park Sydney... this gives something consistently different that will keep people coming back regularly to try out something new and doesn't cost the $2m that has been suggested to accomplish (a fraction of that to have the slabs prepared and powered). Of course, they would need to work out ticketing \ costing to the ride operators... perhaps allow the ride ops to charge a small fee, as well as offer a "higher grade" ticket that grants unlimited rides? Or simply do it the same way LPS does. Thats my management suggestions.
  18. Nice update! they made some great headway since i was there on sunday!
  19. Not sure if this has been discussed regarding this attraction - but if not, i do want to be that annoying technicality that says 'its not a drop, its an inversion'.
  20. It's just such a shame Hard Rock failed. A lot of their ride concepts were 'firsts'. I saw a documentary on the building of the park and it really looked like it might make it, single concept or not. I agree with the 'asian' solution - Perth is a good destination for the asian market, much better than Sydney or Melbourne, although it isn't too different from Brisbane. Perth is also good when you consider that proximity to urban areas, transport hubs etc within the east coast is near on impossible when you talk about the land size they want. Finding that much land in a reasonably proximity to transport etc in Perth would be a lot easier.
  21. i've noticed those signs too... at one point, standing in the SE queueline, i could see (without turning my head) not less than 8 of those "do not sit or swing..." signs. Doesn't really add much to the theme...
  22. As you would well know Rappa, I didn't pay a one-day price, but I do hold a VIP gold. I did have others with me who bought a VIP pass to go yesterday, and may or may not go again before it expires. Regardless of how much I've spent at vrtp (and this debate has been done to death) it's those one-day ticket holders getting screwed. Besides - regardless of what the t&c's are on the VIP pass, you'd have absolute outrage if the park only offered 2 shows and 3 rides on any given day. Now before anyone gets defensive about their employer I wasn't whining about the temporary closures. I also understand the reasoning behind the permanent closures. I'm just disappointed that more hasn't been done to compensate. Now, sure - you can't organise a traveling flat within 24 hours (unless previously arranged with local operators) but ba-tr and lt-rr closures were planned well in advance. Most people can see the risk here if you've closed two major indoor all-weather attractions, and have only 5 other majors, 3 of which are seriously affected by storms, in the middle of the SE QLD storm season! Rappa, you know that I am, and always will be an advocate of the vrtp parks. I have friends who work there, I was merely voicing an opinion and lamenting the sorry state the park found itself in because of the weather and their previous decisions. And regardless of the uproar from fanboys on this board who think anything less than a b&m is unacceptable, yes, a rockwall, kiddie flat or bungee tramp would have been welcome, just for something else to see and do...
  23. Three options: "Extended due to popular demand" "reduced price \ offering" eg: $69.95 until Xmas etc. "nothing until after the Xmas holidays" Or a possible combination of (1) and (3)
  24. The only problem with making the lockers free is the cost to buy them in the first place, although I seem to remember a discussion here a few years ago when vrtp actually bought the lockers off the company that was supplying them. A "free for the first xx minutes" concept would be great, but I think the lockers need to pay for themselves first. If scooby is going to need a locker station, then let the revenue from the lockers pay for it. As for where the items go on scooby I'm not sure... Because of the other closures, scoobys queuehouse was chock full and we decided to pass on it... Did however see people enter with a backpack so not sure how strict they're getting. Rappa, I realize the closures yesterday may have been due to the weather to a large extent, and I wasn't criticizing this fact. I guess my Point was due to the closure of some others (ba-tr and ltrr) anyone paying full price to enter would feel very cheated. I also realize the parks would have good reason to close those two when they did but no effort has been made to provide alternatives to ease capacity... Even a bungee tramp, kiddee travelling flat, or portable rock climbing wall would have been welcome! Lastly, GL is looking great. Work was being done yesterday on the station pieces and accompanying platforms, the first drop remained as per the last update, with the first downhill curve and brake fin. I share rappa's sentiments on this one and can't wait to see it finished.
