Demon at wonderland was the same as the old Corkscrew locking system also - i know that Demon's footpedals had a small reflector on them, and as it was pulled up the lift hill the reflectors would pass a beam at the rear of the station. If the beam didn't count the right number of reflectors, it would E-stop automatically.
-
on a slightly unrelated note - the seatbelt systems on rides like Superman and Batwing have a small yellow line sewn into it. If that line doesn't clear the tensioner, you're too big to ride.

Even lithium batteries will suffer in a year or so. Hate to be the pessimist, but while i love that movieworld have gone to these efforts in initial design to put this sort of thing in, i can't help but think that when the batteries stop holding charge, that it may not be replaced... you'll get halfway up the lift hill and the battery dies.... I'm sure similar things are in play in our favourite disney attractions as well - but a 9 minute battery? It's like an RC car... (although 90 second charge time sounds insane... usually batteries charge for an hour to deliver 10 minutes....?)
-
No actually - you put a toll on something that will see a lot of use, and allow each user to repay a small part of the construction cost. In this case, the pay-per-play attractions have pathetic capacity - handling 1-2 people every 5 minutes or so each. If it were included in the cost of entry, the queue would never drop below 5 hours. You'd be in line all day... By charging extra, you drop out the people who would just do it because it's there, and restrict it's patronage to those who seriously want to have a go. Can I ask what you'd classify Happy Feet 3D as? It sure as hell isn't a ride, so - a show?... That yet, you have no interest in. So what you're really saying is you want the parks to build more shows that YOU'RE interested in?

Not to mention.... who cares? (if you can't see the LEDs in daylight) If it can't be seen during general operation, it'll be a great effect for fright nights and white christmas. The trains will have on board power to run the audio, so why not plug in some low-powered LEDs?

So very glad I booked the later dates for white christmas... if they stay on schedule, i'll be on it in it's first week.

What is going on at Dreamworld
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
A whole new generation of kids is being exposed to Hanna Barbera characters, thanks to Foxtel... As for the comments about the lastability of Dreamworks characters - i don't agree. Kung Fu Panda has some "recency" to it, and despite some people's views, Shrek still has pull - i mean for crying out loud - Universal Studios Singapore has an entire land themed to Shrek, with 3 MAJOR attractions (4d movie, roller coaster, and Donkey! Live) that aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Why is Shrek such a bad move for Dreamworld, when USS built a whole land around the concept less only 2 or so years ago? -
Suddenly that VIP gold pass seems very worthwhile.

What is going on at Dreamworld

According to Seven News last night, the old Nick Central will be divided into THREE new lands (assumably Shrek, Kung Fu Panda... and maybe madagascar (considering they had the lemur at the media call). They did say that the carousel would be themed to shrek. not sure on the rest. -
^^ Might see a return visit of TPR though.

Nickelodeon is moving for a Sea change!

but i farted first so that makes me better than you. -
I'd have thought that too... perhaps the dates available to VIP gold aren't the full dates... and that's why they're available to gold now, without releasing to the public? perhaps they couldn't get the necessary equipment \ contractors for those dates? perhaps the lighting guy is going away for christmas and they need him to bump out before he goes? Maybe they want to have the park back to 'normal' before the major interstate crowds hit?

which are conveniently commencing the first day of QLD school holidays... NSW will miss out however as their holidays don't start until the 20th. I've booked the 15th, in the hope that a thursday won't be as busy, and also that its more likely that we'll see Green Lantern open by then.
-
The dates are 10-18 December as shown on the VIP Gold booking site.

And GL being more intimidating than buzzsaw is a bad thing? What do you mean you're not sure about the placement? Where should it have gone? On the grass on the other side of the carpark next to the highway? oh.. wait... nevermind.
-
So they went with option number two... Seems a bit silly though to sell "cheap" passes that are specifically just for the busy summer holiday period... But from a business perspective, there's a lot of teenager's Christmas presents... So I guess it makes sense from that angle.

So I'm not sure on the details, but we were watching circus of the damned tonight, and saw a Queensland fire truck drive down the back access road, and then when we came out, scooby and the 3d maze were closed, with the exit shutters down. I'm thinking perhaps something triggered the fire alarm? I wonder if scoobys fire sensing eyes kicked in? Or maybe the roof lifted off? Lol. But seriously... Anyone know more?

I'd like to see them bring back a "locals only" style pass - QLD postcodes only - your locals won't spend on merch and F&B as much as the tourists, but it is easy for them to make frequent trips to the parks - so a couple of bucks each visit will make more from them in the long run. Also - having them available only for a limited time means you force people to make a decision early, rather than deciding to get one for christmas, making peak season even more unbearable (pass processing centre also). Allowing people to reuse the same pass, and simply "electronically" extending them is also a great idea. The VIP needs to replace the traditional "annual pass", at a pricepoint somewhere between the two. $200ish, with your buy 3 get one free offer, and add in hallowe'en and christmas events (maybe another one for easter?), and toss in some minor discounts on merch or F&B (the gold VIP had a booklet of discount offers that were quite popular) and I think they're on a winner. If Dreamworld keeps their pass at the same markers, they run the risk of appearing "inferior", so they'll follow with something similar too. That being said, i don't think we'll see it return until june\july.

The one at adrenaline park (the old Skyhawk from Wonderland) has now been removed, along with the bungee tower. The vomitron, slingshot and bungee tramps are still there though - think this is because of the end of lease that occurred a year or so ago. Had a hotel room overlooking it last night while i was down working at the GC 600... so got a good look at it's replacement - a SEGWAY racetrack! As for the "sense of urgency" signs... i think we'd need some stronger wording and perhaps even a cattle prod for some of our ops...they're completely oblivious to their queue times... they need their supervisors to challenge them to drop their queue time without compromising safety... if Disney could do it i don't see why we couldn't... Yes

SS Disney - The Floating Theme Park
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Thrillrulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I can't see why it couldn't be part theme park and part cruise ship... most, if not all attractions could operate during calm seas as well... At the end of the day, there are no obstacles that they could not overcome. All you need to do is watch some of the discovery channel engineering programs for a few hours to see just how amazing somethings are that we build these days... whether it's commercially viable or not is another matter - but i think it would be a great way for Disney to reach out to every corner of the globe.. give those that don't have the means to get to a park to experience disney... and understand what all those who HAVE been mean when they refer to the "disney standard" -
I do know that they generally require you to do the beginner's course first - i think it's more of a habit forming exercise - get you used to "clip on, clip off, clip on". Because the beginner's course is close to the ground, if you screw up you aren't falling far, and the staff can keep a closer eye on you to make sure you're doing it right... after that you're pretty well right to go on whichever one you like.

T'bird park also has the thunder egg mine and horse riding, and a nice restaurant \ function centre and camp ground. I've been to tambourine only, and i'd recommend it (and this was before their refurb at the end of last year - haven't been since. if you're into that sort of thing, it's well worth it... allow a whole day, and don't try to do it back to back... take plenty of water etc.

In the same post - make up your mind... which is it?

i've noticed on a number of occasions the bolts \ screws \ rivets whatever missing from those queue rails. some have been replaced with a substitute that is very obviously not made for it.
