  1. Well, to answer your question, one needs to simply understand a little more about pre-fab or pre-cast concrete walls such as the ones at MW - In most cases, where there is any danger in the walls falling over, a simple set up like this is employed.
  2. The similarities that lead to the name rice burner is basically any vehicle of a diminuitive size that comes from an asian country, as opposed to good old Australian muscle. Mitsubishi, Nissan, that sort of thing. Having said that, Aussie muscle has no place in a stunt show themed around how they achieve the stunts that they do in movies - even the movies shot in Aus use a great percentage of imported cars - Ford Crown Vics, and the like, so in actual fact, a lot of the police academy cop cars would be appropriate vehicles - as the Crown Victoria is frequently bingled and smashed in car chases on the silver screen.
  3. I'm sure i've said it before, but Ian's photo updates always used to be very serious and clinical... what is in the water down at WVTP?
  4. Blockwise i think the only consideration here is the first launch may be the station - cancelling out one of the blocks you counted flea. By the way - your High School video was enjoyable.
  5. Such a pity the topic begins talking about the anticipation of summer, and yet the caption photo is dark and overcast. I'm not criticising, but we'll have to get a photo with a sunnier disposition. Good article Gazza. Can't wait to see it up close.
  6. Ok - so I know Disney isn't ACTUALLY planning it - but it popped up on my news radar and I thought it funny enough to post up here: Disney Venice - News.com.au
  7. Looking at the pics, it would seem very similar to the tornado without a roof? Clint - what did you mean by large vessel landed direct from scandinavia - do tell - sounds like something we would like to know about...
  8. If the no limits creation represents the first section - its going to be really boring - launch, do a u-turn, and then another launch. I'm hoping theres more to it than that. The theming possibilities are endless. Simple landscaping similar to shark bay would be perfect, but more complex "enclosed" landscaping would absolutely make the ride. There needs to be water here - Jetski's don't really come off on land like motorcycles do (although when was the last time you saw a yellow road for a motorcycle - at least the track here is blue). My only concern for the water element is that it is going to hurt the coaster over time - and like SurfRider - have to be switched off (or if water restrictions kick back in - same again). It really doesn't look like its going to be long enough. Family coaster - ok no problems - reptar is only 30 - 45 seconds, but still it would have been nicer to have a longer experience. I still hate those mounting points between track and footer - but i suppose where you can keep costs down you can buy more coasters quicker, so i'm not going to complain too much. Overall, I think we've got ourselves a nice little family coaster here that will have enough thrill element, and enough gimmick to pull the punters. The coaster itself will be good enough - thats my call, and i'll put money on that one - but my only concern is how well they're going to pull off the theming. If its themed like bermuda, or superman, or batman, or scooby - then well done Warner Village and way to stick it to the man - but if its something like MDMC or SurfRider - a few rocks, and a few plants, with maybe a pond at the bottom of the gulley - it's going to be a disappointment. Make it more like the photo in the myfun mailout, and i'll be happy.
  9. With that map - its guaranteed - enclosed - all weather venue. Movie world is really trying to get the rainy-day crowd aren't they? First the roof, now enclosed stunt show... It is better though - PASS really got ruined with the frequent sprinkler soakings in the middle of the show on a hot day when the ground dried too fast. Movie World Boardroom - "what else can we cover?"
  10. I don't know - You could consider it a shameless money-maker, or you could label it as thoughtful cross-promotion. Out of all of the properties, Paradise Country has to be the most under-utilised \ under performing. Attracting guests already visiting one of your properties to attend another for only an additional $10 might encourage visitors to MW to try it out, when they may not have thought about going, and paying full price to visit it previously. A short 1 hour trip to the park might give visitors the experience of the park, to bring them back, with friends, later on paying full price... Yes its a moneymaker, but it also helps support what in my opinion is underutilised assets.
  11. I had thought about those walls. Pre-fab concrete walls are commonly used for factory construction - i've never seen pre-fab walls like that without a roof - mainly because the roof holds the walls together - so yes - definitely a possibility. I will say though the park map on MyFun doesn't show a building where PASS used to be - it's just been erased. There is nothing there - so you never know.
  12. Yes, this has been noted, but he is making notable improvements, and would appear to have worthy contributions (at least, once they are interpreted).
  13. Well - theres Cool Runnings...? lol... or The Running Man ? What major movie can you think of to theme it around?
  14. It is MUCH MUCH harder to link multiple projectors to have a seamless projection than it is to Matrix TV or PC displays together. The films have to be custom made, and cost a fortune. Clint would be able to explain a bit more about the intricacies on Matrix Projection - as he is in control of the largest matrox projection screen i've ever seen - at Outback Spectacular - and they only use TWO projectors (although the Barco is significantly more sophisticated than an ordinary projection system)
  15. I don't think you guys quite understood my point when it came to staff. Only needing three staff is fine, but an attraction like Soarin would chew through the power bill. Of course, so does every other attraction in the parks, but a show venue would use much much less.
  16. Original, did you get grounded? Is that why you're defiantly recommending it? to annoy your parents?
  17. Shows however are capable of soaking up a greater number of guests, do add value to the park as well (as a ride might take 10 minutes to experience, a show would take the best part of an hour from seating to finale) to help make the park more of a full day experience. As far as more cast, here is a typical show from my days at Wonderland: Action Man - cast - AM, Fidget, two sidekicks. Dr X, Felix, two sidekicks. Stunt co-ordinator, audio coordinator\pyrotechnics, two ushers. Thats 12 people including technical crew to put on a show that went for almost 40 minutes, and could seat 1000 people in a full arena. Millennium Magic \ Spellbinding Sorcery: cast: Tony, Juleen (or casey laura), 4 x magic movers, stage manager, audio\lighting manager, two ushers. Thats 9 people, with a show that lasted an hour, and could seat 750 people in a full arena. Now staff wise, it uses more cast and crew, but costs far less than the operation of a ride. An attraction with the same hourly capacity as either of those attractions would be running 2 or 3 full time staff, and the operating costs on the rides - generators \ hydraulics \ pneumatics etc would cost an enormous amount in power - take ToT as a prime example for power consumption - from what I recall they had to upgrade their power facilities in dreamworld to cope with it. Operating costs on the big attractions at Wonderland if you wanted to hire the park out privately after hours cost about $1200-$1500 per hour, and their wouldn't be much profit built into it because they would make their money from food and beverage packages - so if you think about the hourly rate for 12 skilled staff - call it $40 an hour, and thats being generous, you're only talking about $480 to run the attraction for an hour show. There is less likelihood of breakdowns, maintenance is far less costly (you don't need an electrician, an engineer, a carpenter, and other grease monkeys). Your lighting\sound guys are normally ably qualified to do what little maintenance is needed - light globes and the like, which are also far less costly. The cost for a park to put on 3 shows a day, to soak up anywhere up to 1000 people for an hour at a time reduces the loads on other attractions throughout the park, meaning less staff required on each of the other attractions, and less wear and tear on the rides. It's the same principal as to why a lot of american restaurants (and Sizzler here in Aus) serve a type of bread before your meal - fill them up on the cheap stuff before they get to eat the expensive stuff. All you can eat chinese buffet places have a similar concept - you can't have all you can eat if it's just king prawns - cause the prawns are the most expensive. I have no doubt that we will see new attractions at movie world, but I think it would be a smart idea, considering all of the infrastructure that is already in place, that they would continue to use the old maverick area for shows, rather than rides.
  18. Well it was set in the Movie Vault - where old movies go - maybe old movie CHARACTERS went there too?
  19. Since there were several CEO's of wonderland over the years, can you clarify which one you are referring to? Or what year \ period of Wonderland's life they were managing it? If you're going to say Stephen Galbraith, we have a problem. The problem with Wonderland is most of the good decision making ideas were made at the very beginning - when TAFT broadcasting and Paramount Parks were involved. Back in those days, parks were more about the experience than the money. It would be a hard ask to find any park today that is more about the experience than the money - and before you guys shout me down with claims of Disney, think just about the differences between gift shops 20 years ago, and gift shops today - the same mass-produced merchandise can be found in tomorrowland as you can in frontierland.... its all about the money.
  20. Well, i'm not saying Ian had anything to do with it, but WVTP management are obviously happy with Ian's work, and felt it worthwhile mentioning it to the reporter. My guess is management reviewed the information they liked, and supplied the quotes to the papers. I'm not trying to "pooh pooh" the fact the site got mentioned, and gazza got a quote in, but thats the media for you.
  21. What are you referring to Klassen? I've read the entire thread, and can't find any reference to what you are questioning... perhaps you could elaborate a bit more than just 20ww21????????
  22. Dammit Gazza, I noticed that when I had a look at it too - take a look at the "buy tickets online" logo - almost identical to the "pass" images that myfun uses. I was too busy looking for an Ooooooooooooo image that I forgot to mention it when it came along to replying. I actually had to stop for a minute and check the registered owner of the website to be sure WVTP hadn't made a sneaky aquisition.
  23. Absolutely hilarious photo captions on that from Ian. Not the usual clinical captions - and definitely enjoyable.
  24. Original post referring to "ground" under the sales Second post that says there is "quite a length to it" All of these posts led me to believe that the ENTIRE STREET had been astro turfed - and that was what I was referring to with the "green" tinge on the dark asphalt. Astroturf in the little garden area I can live with - but believe me it will be more expensive to maintain that, than to pay a gardener to trim it once a week - as said above - chewing gum and numerous other contributions from guests - cigarette butts (i know - designated smoking areas - but its going to happen, believe me) and everything else under the sun means its going to wear out VERY VERY quickly.
  25. Well, if you've ever seen their website in the past (it's not there anymore) as it was an action park that mostly featured plummeting down a hill on either a toboggan or a waterslide. The Jamberoooooooooooooooooo bit was from a kid in the logo going down a hill, and the oooo's were trailing behind him, implying how fast he was going down the hill. So yes - not really a need for it, but thats where it came from.
