Village Roadshow Suing Warner Bros
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Home streaming services won't even let you use a dongle to screenshare off a phone to a TV using HDMI because it thinks you're trying to pirate the signal. Copy protection on digital streaming services has entered the 21st century - even if Village Roadshow haven't. -
Tributes flow for Dreamworld founder John Longhurst

Which opens the door. You're flat out wrong. The park isn't suggesting it. The family isn't suggesting it. Park fans who know the history aren't suggesting it. You've ignored every well reasoned argument to bang on about a statue that everyone else agrees he wouldn't want, but you think it's ok, because he's dead and wouldn't know? That's hardly honoring his memory. -

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Trident will take only days to construct. Landscaping likewise can be done quickly - I've read stories of Disney World executives, office workers, wives and family members out treading sod into the ground the day before the press-opening of the Contemporary. "Green side up!" The main thing we need to see happen is Leviathan needs to cycle. At Wonderland, Bush Beast was cycled through the night to reach it's manufacturer spec'd minimum cycle time to open to guests. Once we see cycles, it won't be long. -
If the lead time to a fix for these boats is as long as has been implied, sensors and power collectors could be removed, and old PLC backups could be restored. it’s a case of being bothered.

If I remember correctly didn’t we see the ride cycling at one point with both old and new boats? the inability to “roll back” changes that caused issues is poor planning and poor execution.

Village Roadshow once again demonstrating how easy it is to forget about Wet N Wild. -
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-01/seaworld-said-to-make-3-4-billion-takeover-bid-for-cedar-fair SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. has offered to buy amusement park owner Cedar Fair for around $3.4 billion, people with knowledge of the matter said. SeaWorld made a bid of about $60 per unit in cash for Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. The companies are working with advisers on the proposal, the people said. Deliberations are ongoing, and it’s unclear whether the approach will lead to a transaction, the people said. Cedar Fair confirmed in a statement that it had received and was reviewing an “unsolicited, non-binding” proposal from SeaWorld. Perella Weinberg Partners LP and Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP are advising Cedar Fair. A spokesperson for SeaWorld didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Cedar Fair rose 9.6% to $54.51 at 11:23 a.m. in New York before trading was halted, giving the company a market value of about $3.1 billion. SeaWorld rose 4.7% to $62.35 at 12:35 p.m., for a market value of about $4.8 billion. The talks underscore SeaWorld’s bullish outlook on leisure and entertainment as the industry rebounds from the coronavirus pandemic, which had sapped tourism demand. The company, which temporarily closed all of its parks in 2020, reported record revenue and profit in the third quarter, as tourists returned to to its stable of 12 destinations, including SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Aquatica and Sesame Place. SeaWorld went public in 2013 under Blackstone Inc.’s ownership and suffered a blow after “Blackfish,” a documentary released that year, accused SeaWorld of mistreating killer whales. Blackstone sold its remaining stake in the company in 2017 to a Chinese leisure company.

Luna park 9 new rides construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
My guess is opening hours are quiet hours, and with BD being one of, if not the most expensive thing to run, better to hold it and build anticipation until there's enough of a crowd gathered in park to warrant full train operations. Given what we've heard of how light the trains are, sending them partially full might also cause other issues. It's also possible that the morning maintenance checks take longer and it was easier to keep it closed for a couple hours than to try and get everything open at once. Not the same, but Bush Beast's morning maintenance checks and track walks were still ongoing when Wonderland opened, which is why Goldrush didn't open until an hour after the rest of the park did -
If you'll excuse the accidental double negative - ^what he said. The restraints are more restrictive - as I mentioned recently the operators are now spieling regularly that the restraints are restrictive and might not fit some guests.

I mean it's not a bad sign if they've already decided what they're doing with that space, but instead they're going to have back of house sheds and maintenance facilities SMACK BANG in the middle of the park. It seems like a poor choice, but the presence of the points there pretty much confirms it.

Dreamworld's "Waitangi Weekend"
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Im Hungry's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This year they closed. What a spectrum. -
The new boats entered service with the front row operating - so my question would be how did they NOT pick it up prior to that? And what about the old boats - obviously nearing end of life or no longer compliant and hence the replacement but they were still running them until recently - could they not have continued doing so while the new boats got corrected?

considering the fanfare they made about the new carriages and such, I think it's poor form that they've not kicked into high gear restoring the train line and operations.

Luna park 9 new rides construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm not bored enough to dive into standards documents and whatnot, but from what I recall, it's not about the harness type or whatever - but whether the supplemental system was infallible - ie harnesses that had ratcheting locking systems that could not be unlocked except with intention are seen differently to hydraulic locking systems that aren't independent of each other. I think this is why Buzzsaw had such issues and then later modifications to it's restraint system because the 'layers' of redundancy weren't independent. This is all from memory though, so don't quote me on it - but that's what I remember... -

Yes, I forgot about paradise country, but so does the rest of the world. My point is - Dreamworld has a gate that is 'true blue okker' themed Aussie, and they're closing it on Australia Day which seems ridiculous. There's a lot to unpack there Joz - wanna be more specific? -

Ahhh yes, Paradise Country - the "Aussie Farm" with native Australian Wildlife such as Meerkats and previously host to Tiger Cubs, that is so forgettable even Village forgets to include them in their park passes (they still offer a 3 park pass to the 'big 3' village parks that doesn't include them. Sure, all their bundle passes include it, but its kinda like Skypoint on the Dreamworld pass - how many people ACTUALLY use it for that...? -

DaptoFunlandGuy replied to DaptoFunlandGuy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
out of all the gates on the coast, WWW is the 'most' Australian themed. It seems like the perfect excuse to throw a party and have special activities on at the park that day. I don't know though - originally it would have been after school went back, but now with the extension its part of the holidays again, but at this point they'd be rostered for it so unlikely to change things now. Is Australia Day busy or quiet for the parks? -
Luna park 9 new rides construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
if i'm honest, I always felt the climb up to the wild mouse station was a poor effort, but I just gave it a pass because the ride was why I was there, not the queue. Of course, we know the reason why everything is scaled back is due to funding - but there's nothing out there that says they'll ever change it - and Wild Mouse is a good illustration of that. As mentioned - the photos do show a lot of 'bad show' - but i'm left wondering if they even care? There is of course a big difference between capital works on major buildings and such - how much do they care if a bridge looks utilitarian? -
Luna park 9 new rides construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
the ride opened less than a month ago I don't think anyone is suggesting that any budgetary constraints will have been resolved this quickly - you'd just open a month later if you thought you could afford to put improved theme elements in that soon - no if we do see improvements I think it will be when the ride has an annual maintenance scheduled. -
