  1. Yes, because the location is just so far away from the now demolished biggest theme park in the southern hemisphere... As they say - most of that area is acreage - the residents have their own noise barriers in the adjacent land.
  2. best suggestion i can make is to take Shazam along for one of the parades, and try and get close to the sound system.
  3. unbiassed? seriously? Are you telling me you had absolutely NOTHING to do with it this time around? i've seen your zombie-coffee-zaraffas updates... you're pulling major hours on something... the question is whether its the parade, fright nights, or the show changes to AOS?
  4. I must confess, while I advocate quality pictures every day of the week, i'd much prefer i-Phone to nothing. In terms of construction updates etc, the building progress of an attraction can easily be seen on the iphone, and the further on we get, the better quality are the cameras in those phones. I still agree that the "published" updates should be done with quality equipment, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a forum-iphone-update - i'd love to see them more often!
  5. Always a ringing endorsement when Rappa thinks it's good... well that, or it's his ego, but i'm going with number one...
  6. I bought a 4-stroke mower a few months ago. On purchase, one needs to add oil to the sump. After a further 30 hours of operation, one needs to add additional oil to the sump - and thereafter it should be replaced once a year (depending on usage). Not to mention that in those two months, the attraction usually has the hardest service of it's life, and you'd want to make sure that all those new, unused parts had held up to what they were meant to...
  7. i imagine it's not that easy, and tbh wouldn't be worth the money to do so. it would only serve to further reduce the ride's capacity by taking longer to cycle. let them bring something else in and shoe horn it into ocean parade... or perhaps - we'll see them focus now on developing rocky hollow \ gold rush themed areas - i can see it now... 'ye olde adrenaline alleye'
  8. Well they really have to look to something that's either released this year or next. Scooby was opened the same year the film was released, so let's hope they're looking in that ballpark. Joker is a little past now to be a good hookup. Moving away from the Batman related theming (we've got 2 batman rides, and two separate areas of the park that are batman themed (gotham food area, wayne manor), i think we've got to extend out a bit - what else is out this year? Green Lantern is the only one that comes to mind - it's reasonably current (still in cinemas) so thats a possibility. What other suitable superhero stories have come out this year, or will in the next 6-8 months?
  9. Well - you're close... a buzz saw and a saw mill are different - in the same way that a skyscraper and an elevator are different - you're not going to have one without the other.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzzsaw_(disambiguation) So your guess is incorrect... a buzz saw and a circular saw are the same thing.
  10. Well - when you really sit down and ask people what they consider 'australian' themed, with the exception of rusted water tanks and windmills, red dust, kangaroos and emus, (which oddly enough is a description of the roo\emu exhibit at the singapore zoo), there isn't much "aussie" stuff to theme, that would appeal to the overseas market. Landmarks etc aside - if you look at parks that have tried for such a specialty theme - Hard Rock for example - have failed, because they don't have the broad appeal. A park on the sunshine coast would need to rely (long term) on local revenue - and most people aren't going to want to go to a park that exaggerates the same world in which we live in. Besides - what are you going to call it.... Aussie World??? #Fail. Better to take a lead out of some of the big internationals that have sprung up recently... aka universal... find a franchise willing to jump on board and work off that... or model the park on another overseas - eg: Wonderland \ Canada's Wonderland. Most of the ground work was done, specific themes in place that weren't so totally focussed on one (very restrictive) element. Sure - have an "aussie" land within the park, where the tourists can buy all the ass-stuffed koalas they want, but don't make it the WHOLE park. Now that i've responded to that - as far as the overall announcement is concerned - i'm all for another park in the country that has the balls to compete on the world market (and the money) - whether it hinder or help our other parks i don't care - it may encourage them to invest more to keep up (or it may close them down), but either way - before we even think about the ramifications of it's effect on our other parks, we need to see it get past the "media release" stage... show us some concept drawings, public opinion poll, council discussions and SHOW ME THE MONEY before we really worry about anything else. I'm still waiting for the following: [*]Disneyland Sunshine Coast [*]Disneyland Cairns [*]Disneyland Gold Coast [*]Disneyland Melbourne [*]Disneyland Sydney [*]New sydney theme park (not WnWs) [*]Perth development from about 6 months ago [*]any other half baked idea i've missed [*]oh - and "Habitat Waterford" ...... bwahahahahahahhaha.....
  11. I don't think he phrased it in error at all. I understood exactly what was said - and my interpretation of it was the same as his. It's not a brand new (less than 12 month old) ride that is incessantly closed for 'maintenance' (aka Aqualoop), its several years old - at a time when a lot of major components reach the end of their recommended life, and require an overhaul. Getting on in years means exactly that - 4 years qualifies as "years" in that phraseology. It's simply that YOUR interpretation of the phrase is different to MY interpretation, or DjRappa's interpretation. You're arguing a moot point at the end of the day - you agree with "everything" he's saying, but don't agree with a phrase he "said". You agree that the ride is at that time in it's life when it needs major maintenance (because thats what he was saying) so there is therefore nothing to argue about, given that the only disagreement you've been whinging over is a simple turn of phrase that you interpret differently - you still agree with his overall statement, as do i, and therefore - SHUT THE BLOODY HELL UP
  12. surely we can have a thread title that is a little more "colourful"????
  13. I hear Stephen Galbraith is looking for an Australian park to run for a few years....
  14. I don't recall seeing this one appear on the forums. For me I usually detour the front page and go straight to /forums... weird. I LOVE the theming for redback. It's simple, but immersive and effective. Aussie World seems to take that track - simple, but effective. It doesn't look "tacky" and fits exactly what they aim for. I love Rock N Roll Rebel - and with just a few intelligent lights, a timed soundtrack and some neon lights does very well - and that was years ago that that went in. Obviously the giant slide won't be much to look at - but as stated - great for the kids. I think the comments are a bit unfair as far as the bigger parks overlooking this kind of attraction are concerned - imagine the uproar on the boards if seaworld announced a giant slide going in on the old Pirate ship site? Anyhow - i've kind of overlooked Aussie world lately - living on the south side now, so I guess it might be time for another trip north.
  15. yes but our dollar is slightly higher at the moment....
  16. the original submission was for a "third gate" as such, more like an adrenaline park, on the other side of the carpark - that is definitely different to this rumored attraction - it seems like it will be right by the front gate. As for you MickeyD - you have, in the past, been quite on the money... i'm with you - betting we'll see some action with both Batman Adventure, and hopefully Lethal too. They've both been looking a little run down and worse for wear - and usually when they run something into the ground, they've already made their minds up on what they're doing with it... (eureka, bermuda, LTRR....)
  17. Dammit Tjay - why remove it after half the membership have seen it - god damn - someone quote it! Obviously with the emphasis Rappa is giving, it's not the only big ticket we will see...
  18. Interesting - not sure if I missed it in the construction \ speculation threads - but this is the first time i've seen mention of a THIRD attraction (surprise) by the end of the year...
  19. Incidently, is anyone from here at MW today? Holy crap it's busy! It must be really busy - Joz hasn't even made it out yet to correct his original post! Incidently, is anyone from here at MW today? Holy crap it's busy!
  20. DjRappa - since you're able to share some info about Hallowe'en.... is it possible the costuming restrictions will be lifted this year?
  21. the latest i've seen from Dreamworld is that they're advertising passes for $69, that work from now until about september \ october. No word yet from them whether they are extending for a further 12 months. Perhaps they were waiting for MW to show their hand - problem is this once again puts them behind the 8 ball.
  22. The B&M was crudely hand painted, and it had a 'S' (Superman logo) above it also. I'd say that worker (not sure he was an engineer - looked like more of a grunt), simply worked on the construction of a B&M... and perhaps one themed to superman?
  23. It's not the size that counts.... wait... yes it is.
