  1. i know that, i do work in a shipyard. But even those compared to the height of even the track is useless.
  2. seriously how big can a forklift be? not very is the correct answer.
  3. yeah i didnt watch it i was just commenting on the fact the guy above me said he'd need a massive power source
  4. yeah just go faster at the water..... the faster you go at water then more solid it seems, and everyone would be knocked out due to the g-load
  5. giant drops got to be the least "flat" ride out of any of those listed
  6. i got a taxi back to surfers from screamworld for $50 so id assume movieworld is around $40 and if you have more then 1 person in the taxi its a really cheap share
  7. I think you'll find wvtp arn't paying one cent for these, if its an outside company they would be paying the parks to basically rent space, while they make their profit from customers, so the theme parks are getting money for someone to plonk something in unused space pretty much. I don't see it as a big issue, don't like them don't use them, simple.
  8. How do they get to the top to absail down? Oh that's right a crane. A heli couldn't get anywhere near it I'm sure dreamworld don't want another chopper crash to their name. Is it that important that the writing look perfect all the time? It's a huge and expensive job to do.
  9. Yes but it has to be sprayed on and you can't layer it, it has to be applied to bare metal so you cant put another coat over. The steel industry can't dip 10m and bigger structures in a galv bath can it? No so they found other ways to protect steel in the way galvanizing does. Anyway how do you suggest they paint the tower anyway? No cherry pickers are that tall. You want them to bring in a 2000 tonne crane with a man cage? Even if they would do that where can they sit it while they do this work. It's just not practical or necessary to paint the tower. You want new major attractions or even fixing up the current ones? Don't go pestering them to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars painting the tower.
  10. Industrial galv paint is different to hot dip sheet metal and small gauge tube like used on street signs and such. It's a dark grey and can be made darker or lighter. It's also not shiny and just looks like a good quality paint job. If you've seen the structural framing of industrial work sheds that's what it is.
  11. I'd say the tower would be galvanized if it was painted the paint would peel in a year or 2 which would result in rust. So if it is galvanized there's no point in painting it it does fade slighty over time but it's better then peeling paint.
  12. Yeah i know i just pointed that out because deap brought it up, but knowing what the estop does on our machines before pressing it is important too, you wouldnt believe the amount of idiots who use it as an off switch then the next person comes and thinks its broken because the estop is still on and they dont know.
  13. In manufacturing its a bit different actually, an estop will turn the machine off but wont cut power to it. It then wont be able to turn back on until the estop button is unlatched and returns to the out position. On hydraulic machines is has to finish the cycle because with the machine off you cant keep the cylinders pressurized to halt it. Also the fact the off button is usually near the power box of the machine while the estop is near the control panel for emergency sakes, even though if you have an accident its going to be over before you can even think about hitting the stop button.
  14. Thats a pretty broad assumption, i found the river ride to just be an aging indoor boat ride that was so predictable i could tell what was going to happen before it did. OHHHH NOOOOO i wonder if that huge tree is going to fall down...... of course it does. I dont mind that its designed for kids but that technology is so outdated imagine what they could do just modernizing it.
  15. I just got back from bali today and the waterbom park over there just recently put in one of these loops, standing out the front of the park it looks like a vertical loop and 4 of them in front of wet n wild would look awesome. Definitely worth the cost to move the twister and speed coaster just for the view.
  16. nah ive looked flights to singepore are about $500 flights to gc are $500 infact this year i got them for $400 and id rather the gc because i dont really like asian locations/culture and the crowds would be worse anyway, and even if you are an employee of the parks, higher ups are very good at keeping secrets that havent been confirmed, i didnt even know if i had a job past march because everyone thought we didnt have any work lined up that was until materials for the new contracts turned up the other day.
  17. Now your taking your parks for granted, try living in perth only getting 4 weeks holiday a year means 1 holiday a year, and then its going to be upwards of 1500 to visit any park singapore or the gold coast. Its really annoying sometimes when you bitch about how the parks standards are declining, sure you might not have gotten a new attraction in a few years but how do you not know they are planning something huge that takes a few years profits to pay for, you dont. There would be tonnes of people, me included who would do anything to have a decent park 30 minutes from their front door.
  18. Sitting in one spot doing a doughie and driving into a uturn at speed are two different things. You can rotate a car around it's nose doing a doughie quite easily but that's only due to your back wheels have no traction. I'm guessing none of you have done a hand brakie though, in hwsd when they drive in at speed and park the cars against the right wall that's all done with the handbrake. Pulling the handbrake at speed will make your car spin so you've got that right but because you no longer have traction inertia does the rest keeping you car going in the path it was when you pulled the handbrake. I was never saying anything about what the gs were because it's easy enough to work out I was just saying your everday comparison would be about as accurate as using a plane to figure out the gs you can pull in a heli, it's not a comparison because the two things move in completely different ways.
  19. You don't get it either. When you go around a corner any lateral gs that you get your car/vehicle also gets so in anything that isn't held in path by rails is forced outwards by the gs too making your car skid away, so anything that isn't on a fixed track will never pull anywhere near the same gs as a coaster simply because as soon as the g force is greater then the cars grip it's going sideways. And a hand brake will only make you go sideways faster.
  20. I'm guessing your not a very good driver. When a car spins the odds are you will slide away from the centre point of the turn so no the turning circle isn't made smaller. As soon as you start to slide the gs decrease and going faster won't make that any better because speed and turning circle size go hand in hand. There is no everyday comparison because to get any amount of lateral gs it needs to be mounted on a rail. I'm sure most people here have been on scooby so we all know how it feels.
  21. That's got to be the worst comparison ever. 1) A car going 40km will have a turning circle of at least 15m 2) A car is not on rails so I would bet $10 you would spin everytime 3) A car will lose alot more speed while turning then scooby does
  22. I would say so, adventure world always have a habit of doing that because the parks got alot more kids in it then adults or teenagers. I just wish for once they would make a thrill ride that i want to go on multiple times.
  23. No but it is the huss version in the pictures, the ride height is only about 40m or so, it is a bit of lucky dip as to whether you get a good view or not, one way looks over an industrial area/clearing site and the other way looks after the park from the top of the hill over the lake and as far as the eye can see.
  24. I got to be one of the first groups on it today which afaik was the first day it has been running, and i've got to say I wasn't expecting it to be as good as batwing but I was still disappointed by it. The cycle is waaaaay too short instead of being shot up and dropped down consecutively you get shot up (which has nowhere near the speed or g's as batwing) and then you get slowly lowered down with a little bounce in the middle, then when you get to the bottom you do the same again, and then you get slowly hoisted to the top where your lowered down way below freefall speed. After being on the batwing and giant drop this version is just so watered down when your meant to be freefalling and you don't go weightless or even get a tickle in your stomach is a bit weak. And you people would just love the theming they didnt even bother to build a permament base/area for it and they just built it using the carnival base and ticket box. While it is a step forward for adventure world its still not something i really want to go on again and probably wont go back until a new thrill ride is added and going by the time from the powersurge to this i might be waiting a good 10 years.
  25. Looks good, it should give a whole new feeling to the ride considering in the corkscrew cars you sat so deep in them. I know alot of you don't like change but seriously at least let the ride open again before you say it's a waste because it could improve things.
