  1. The only reason I know of the Phantom is because he was always the crappy free comic that came with a lot of showbags at the Ekka
  2. I don't think a comic that has been running for over 80years could be considered short lived, phantom has been around longer than Superman.
  3. I would say it had to do with the maintenance of the tanks. Smaller systems (especially salt-water ones) are very difficult to maintain, and are prone to a multitude of issues. I would dare say that maintaining a tank the size of Shark Bay requires less detailed attention than the multiple small tanks that were in the aquarium.
  4. Jelly fish are definitely not the only animals sea world doesn't have. If they were to get a jellyfish exhibit, I would at most imagine it to be a couple of tanks added to current Creatures of the Deep indoor area, not a replacement for an entire area of a park. Sea world has really been missing a basic aquarium exhibit since the one underneath the current animal adventure bookings disappeared a few years back. I would like to see an exhibit showcasing smaller aquariums of varying types - from the reef (Typical nemo/dory stuff kids love), deeper water animals (octopus?) to freshwater wetlands (maybe freshwater crocs). Ultimately though I hope it becomes an expansion of the current Castaway Bay area with a few pirate themed rides to make it a spot people want to seek out and see, not just an area they stumble upon on their way out from the dolphin show.
  5. Shaping up to be a very good school holiday season in September for VR, with Movie World's new coaster and Sea World with the bear cubs.
  6. Sea World is excited to announce that 16-year-old Polar Bear Liya has given birth and is caring for two Polar Bear cubs. The cubs, which were born in the early hours of Wednesday 26 April, are doing well and have been observed suckling milk. At birth the cubs weighed approximately 600 grams, are 15 centimetres in length and are blind, toothless with short, soft fur. This is a very exciting time for Sea World and our Polar Bear and veterinary team are monitoring Liya and the cubs very closely. These early stages remain an extremely critical period and we are cautiously optimistic the cubs will continue to thrive. The cubs will spend the first stage of their lives in the maternity den with Liya. We hope to determine their gender when the twins first leave the den in approximately July. The Polar Bears at Sea World are ambassadors for their species and play a vital role in raising awareness of the effects of global warming. Current research indicates that Polar Bear numbers in the wild are declining, with 22,000 – 31,000 bears remaining worldwide. Sign up to our email subscription and follow us on Facebookto receive regular updates on the cubs’ progress. 7. What constitutes good value though? unfortunately most Australian consumers have a very skewed/unfair view on the term value. Does $1per litre milk being sold below cost price really represent good value? I think we have fast become a society that expects the world but aren't willing to pay dollar for it.
  8. One day entry to Disneyland, on a regular non-peak day, is just under $150 AUD, or $220 for both Disneyland and California Adventure.
  9. I can personally say that I have spent a lot more money in the parks since the "cheap passes" were introduced. Prior to them I would only visit 1 maybe 2 parks per year, and because I felt the cost of paying there and then I was much more careful with my in park spending. Now with the VIP passes I visit the parks multiple times per year and because you just walk in the turnstiles you don't really feel like you have paid entry and therefor are more likely to spend money in the park. For example when visiting Sea World I have happily paid for a couple of animal adventures, which I would not have done on a single day ticket. Similarly at Movie World recently had international guests visiting and spent the $$ extra to get unlimited Fast-Track, something I would find harder to pay for if I had just paid $80 to enter the gates 5mins earlier.
  10. This to me looks very tacky, anyone that has worked in retail would surely cringe at this. From memory Movie World stocks most of not all of these items, they just don't shove every piece of their inventory on the shop floor. as @Brad2912 said don't confuse volume with range. Why pay $5 for a pack of lollies at a theme park that are half the price at a general retail store? I would rather see the more unique items that Movie World sells anyday.
  11. Warner Bros. is working on a computer animated feature movie called S.C.O.O.B to reboot the Scooby-Doo movie franchise and is due for release in 2018, maybe the ride will be reworked to feature characters from this upcoming version?
  12. They would want to keep them for replanting in their original location later on. I believe it is against council regulations to plant new cocos palms on the Gold Coast as they are considered an invasive species.
  13. Evidence so far shows that Movie World will be classing it as a hypercoaster so that's good enough for me 😜
  14. Found this recent development application online for a "Hypercoaster Footbridge" - perhaps this is for the maintenance bay platforms?
  15. Personally I feel the connotations of the word "suicide" don't sit well with something made for amusement. Working in retail when the DVD for Suicide Squad was released it was surprising the number of complaints we had for having in store signage/posters with the word Suicide on it. Call it "political correctness" but I don't think the ride will be themed to the suicide squad.
  16. That is most likely to do with licensing agreements and royalties. Movie World would have to pay the actors if they used their likeness in the park.
  17. 7 News Gold Coast's story on the coaster from last night
  18. It's a campaign about using your imagination, the ride can be whatever you want it to be, plus it saves Dreamworld from having to create a cohesive theme for the ride
  19. There are also a whole bunch of stand alone videos available on Dreamworlds YouTube page, some are pretty good others are just cheesy.
  20. Mayor Tom Tate has released his wish list for the new master-planned city, which includes a large pocket of land set aside for potential "Orlando Style" theme parks.
  21. Well it is the only ride on the Gold Coast with VR, so doesn't that already qualify as the best ride with VR? ?
