  1. Was it not the same Octopus ride involved in an incident at Aussie World a few years ago?.
  2. Well it would be a big team, its a fair few. Everyone has different interpretation on that ect. You'll find they do not just wait for the ride to "break down". They would have paper work to do. They would all be trades qualified to the electricians would do call outs on things needing attention eg ovens, lights. Trades would help with issues with other rides or sounds systems throughout the day. They actually have a team stay on all day. In fact you'll find after the ride operators leave the engineers return to conduct a full system shut down on some rides. That would include power down, air compressor bleeding. Turning off specific systems like hydraulics or whatever the case may be.
  3. You usually find that they do indeed have a small dedicated team who inspect rides everyday. The order tho might change everyday and some task might be different from inspection to inspection. Obviously these rides need good quality inspecting and thats why the engineering department would start so early to ensure rides can be opened by the advertised park open time. I must admit this video is much better and can convey the message across much easier to the general public.
  4. @Jobe, firstly thanks for the correction on the HUSS UFO. While the coasters are of the same size almost the Tumble bug area is a little smaller than fellow roof top across the midway. You are right tho, they could utilise some of the overhang but underneath the tumble bug is the maintenance facility. Well it was some years ago unless it has been relocated. Maloneys corner would be a nice place to put a small compact coaster but I do see them turning it into a children's oasis. Much like all other theme parks do. Yes it currently almost if but it does lack the charm, not that the kids seem to mind. As a parent I like to see my child immerse themselves in their environment much like I like to do. I suppose as enthusiast we just have to sit and wait for announcements.
  5. LPS had an enterprise until just a few years ago. It was on the concrete pad that is almost opposite the Ferris wheel above the food outlet. Ride operate had a great view of the harbour from here. Seeing a newer model would be nice in fact. It would be similar to what they did with the tango train. I'd love to see a compact coaster I really would. But I don't know how they could make a coaster like that fit into the charm of the place. Wild Mouse doesn't even need to try and fit in, it just does. I know its been talked about many times but remember the concrete pad that tumble bug sits on is not that big. I would be nice to have a coaster start here as the last two started from almost this same point. But I just don't see it happening. I cant even see it happening in Maloney's corner purely because I believe this will become the new family area of the park. Its all interesting and intriguing. I hope the park does not become over crowded with rides tho. It really needs to keep its charm. I know Brad will make the right choices like he always does.
  6. Maybe, I don't know. I do know however they have noise levels that still get monitored to this day. Any ride at LPS that has music playing can only be played at a particular volume. The sound issues are worse at Maloneys corner because nothing reduces the noise as in buildings ect. So for that reason I cant even see a small coaster being installed. The noise even from the wild mouse on a moderately busy day is astonishingly loud. No one complains about the tumble bug because its in front of office buildings and its not that noisy. The UFO was noisy when decelerating and rarely caused an issue. id love to see a Mack or a S&S. But it just wont I believe fit into the character of the park. Plus the owners would be nervous after the whole hair raiser debacle too I would think. But we all have been proven wrong with this industry many times before.
  7. Luna Park has needed some new rides and a flesh feel to the place for a while. 20 million tho wont go that far honestly. Not with the food outlets getting upgrades ect. I think they will get new flat rides personally. I would not be surprised if they buy some of the flat rides that have been in the park before. Power surge ( not the Joylands one but a similar model ) and maybe some of the smaller flat rides that can have high capacity. Only the Ferris wheel, carousel, Tango train & Coney island have high capacity. The rest of the parks rides do not really allow for such a high capacity. As for a roller coaster as much as one would be brilliant it wont happen. Its the reason the big dipper killed the park all those years ago. I could see some sort of VR version tho of the big dipper occurring.
  8. The Company that owns the Hot wheels shunt team often help out with the Stunt driver show also. As in the drivers and move cars for them when required. Hard to read too much into this myself personally. I know of the person who own the Hot wheels stunt team and I know nothings super special has been announced on their FB page. Always willing to be corrected tho I am.
  9. willco. Try not to take offence. Essentially everyone does worry about machines ( Rides are machines ) when they don't do what they should. I get the whole not wanting to waste time, firstly your time and the parks time. But looking at it from both sides of the fence they really do like to know about those things. Essentially a ride operator drives blind so to speak. A control panel and computer can tell only so much. I hope the pass gets a decent work out tho and you enjoy riding those great rides.
  10. OK then. Sorry for not reading the information you gave correctly. But you did state a ride had an issue on an enthusiast forum. I did read the thread. What I found odd is that you are a yearly pass holder. So I assume you ride the rides at least once a month meaning you would be one of the lucky ones that knows the rides usual operational performance potentially. Was not really have a dig at you or that. Either way its a slightly concerning thing that occurred.
  11. I am slightly perplexed as to why you never mentioned something to a member of staff. Given what the industry is going through these little details would be gratefully appreciated by the engineering team & management..
  12. While change is always welcome and LPS does need change it will be sad to see the Ranger go. As a former ride operator the Ranger was by far the best ride to operate and it was some what challenging also. I am assuming they want to utilize Maloney's corner as a family friendly section of the park. Time will tell what occurs with the park. But good on them also.
  13. Thank you for the clarification Tim.
  14. Are we talking about the LPS Ranger or another one?. I know I should read back on the thread but my son won't let me currently.
  15. Yes the Trokia was at World Expo. But from a talk some years ago ( around 2005 ) I am sure one of the guys who helped move it and look after it said before it came to Australia it ran in the UK for several years but never ran much due to issues. It could have been a lie I do not know. But I know it has showed its age and used to have a few issues years ago. You can tell its got a hydraulic issue because one "arm" raises into the air ever so slow after the others are already in the air.
  16. I cannot see "Tumble Bug" lasting much longer. It was built I believe in the late 70's and in fact is the oldest ride on site I am lead to be hold that has not been modified in any way for operational use. I also think it would not go down to the old UFO site at all. Maybe the kids rides all move kind of into one small area, like the currently tumble bug space. Might free up some room out the back and they might even re arrange malonys corner. But as for the old UFO site I have no real idea as to what they could do. Stair access is already in place and it is a decent area but the tumble bug I think sits on a bigger area.
  17. It could have as I have not been to the park in a while. But I know ( as a former worker ) that the mural used to look different and never had any "war" aircraft on it like the spitfire plane you see. Maybe they have halted works until the ride is here or something. I know the old UFO pad is clear of anything. I suppose it is just a wait and see what happens event like its been already.
  18. Apologies for the terrible image but its the best I could get from the Ferris Wheel. I took this pic around four weeks ago when I took my son to LPS for a daddy day out. That is a brand new mural being painted with a New York city skyline it seemed. From the carousel you can see inside the old queue line but it was still yellow at that point. I am amusing LPS will take its time when it comes to new attractions. Also need to remember ( or maybe some of you don't know ) Behind the mural is another office area usually used as a cash room and area for holding tickets wrist bands ect. Hope people enjoy the terrible picture.
  19. Sad to see it go but it really is showing its age now. Always fun to ride and always great to operate. Will have many memories of the Tango train.
  20. Call this a long shot. But I am an evade Motorsport fan and well this came up in my news feed an hour ago. https://www.facebook.com/Champions.Brock.Experience?fref=ts
  21. Completely depends on the type of Epilepsy your friend has. Trust me their are many types. I have a family member whom I know very well and they have Epilepsy. They never ever go on any kind of ride for the fear of something happening. Now chucking my ride operators cap on. Check the signs but also think about many aspects. SW,MW have signs for the roller coasters that state you must be able to walk down platforms blah blah. Now we know its rare for something to happen but you need to think of those scenarios. What if you are on a ride and something happens?. Would that cause your friend to have a seizure/fit. Hopefully that enlightens you maybe a little.
  22. Everyone on here just needs to remember that although we are enthusiast of this industry we must wait for the official word from management. I know its concerning and worrying but all the right measures need to be taken. I was at Movieworld the other day ( Thursday ) and everything with this attraction seemed fine along with other attractions at the park. Just hopefully this does not become a messy situation for the industry given all the noise about what occurred with another ride down the freeway recently.
  23. On Wednesday me and the wife went into the city and dropped into LPS just to see how it was going. Was rather busy as schools where on a school excursion. Pirates revenge was testing and is set up out the back in its usual place. Interestingly tho as I left through the face a piece of white laminated paper got my attention attached to the gate of LPS. It was the development application to run Hair Raiser. I did take a picture but its currently on my phone.
  24. I know I may be getting off topic some what and I do apologize. But I know that the pad that the tumble bug sits on cant take too much weight. The Trokia is a heavy girl and the pad can only take around five more ton. I'm no concrete expert but I did work for a park for a number of years. I remember having a conversation with Tony.M ( long serving worker) at a time when the Trokia was not running ( had been two months ) and talks about it going back then where on the board. He said the issue would always be getting a lighter ride. Well when we think of it technology has come a long way. Also about the UFO going i'm disappointed. Such a great ride to operate but terrible to get balanced correctly. It was the hidden gem of the park really and in such a unique place. I hope what ever ride eventually goes in its place will be well worth it. Although I think some of the offices for GR are still behind the facade behind the old UFO site.
  25. Rather sad the UFO is no longer running. But like some of the Huss rides they simply dont make parts anymore. It was a cracker of a ride to operate in manual ( when allowed). I hope LPS can and will do some thing smart with this area. I think the UFO's days are out numbered and it wont be replaced for some time possibly. Tumble Bug could be moved but its one of the oldest Huss rides in the park. I think its almost nearing its end soon also. Will be one of those watch this space moments.
