  1. OK thanks guys that makes more sense now. Seriously, fuck the media. It's things like this that make me question every article I've read in the past. It seems every time a news story pops up in an area I actually have knowledge about, it's filled with bullshit misguided speculation presented as facts, and presented in a vitriolic way that attacks the entire industry. It's the same as the way the media reports on soccer fans, although in those cases I usually just brush it off. In this case I am actually shocked, I think it's completely disrespectful to everybody who is closely involved with this incident.
  2. The emergency stop button isn't going to stop the raft from coming through the water, it'd just stop the lift wouldn't it? I still can't think of how this happened, did the raft slide down the conveyor lift?
  3. You've said it yourself. They want to make sure that the creation tools all work really well before they really buckle down on the gameplay. They've stressed a load of times in live streams that they really want it not only to be great for creating your own worlds, but for it to also be a really balanced and in-depth theme park management experience. The micro-management you are used to will no doubt be in full swing come full release.
  4. Everyone's gone nuts. Two stations? VR on a brand new coaster? How about we just get hyped for a coaster that will stand on its own as an experience. We need something interesting to happen so people stop having to spew nonsense to fill thread pages!
  5. I don't think you've ground anyone's gears, it's all part of discussion. I get what you mean, I also think GL's queue and station is lacklustre in theming when compared to the other rides in the park. Just don't think it's feasible to theme more than just the queue and station.
  6. No massive coaster like this is going to come off looking good with theming around the entire ride. The immersion is broken as soon as you can see the highway, the car park, WnW just down the road etc. There's no point. As long as the station and queue look nice, I will be happy. I'd really love to see a body of water for the ride to interact with but I don't know the chances of this being a thing. Would also like some trees so that the area looks nice. Personally I think the theming for Green Lantern is a bit drab, hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing station building and a queue that's in the shade. If the coaster is good though I'm hardly going to care about any of this anyway, it'll just be icing on the cake.
  7. This is some real dedication. I Really like that Arkham building.
  8. And as also said many times here, the same pass that gets you into MW gets you into SW and WnW. The experience combined easily matches what's on offer at DW/WWW
  9. That's what has gotten me hyped. If they're marketing it using 'World's best' that says to me that it's better than both Superman and Arkham. Of course! They're ready to well and truly claim that title, even from the general populous if they market it correctly. It'll be 6 proper coasters in the one park versus Dreamworld's 5, all being worse (significantly, imo) than MW's counterparts. Just to make my point clearer, you have Superman, Arkham, Green Lantern, SDSC and Road Runner, all quality rides for their market, versus TOTII and Buzzsaw, (Shittle coasters as I like to call them), Cyclone, which isn't as good as Green Lantern, Motocoaster, which is nowhere near the quality ride that SDSC is. And then Road Runner is such a good kids coaster even I still get a kick out of it, compared to the Rugrats kiddie coaster, where I'd rather ride the motocoaster tbh. What I can't believe is how Dreamworld has managed to hold onto the title for so long in the eyes of so many. Probably a good thing for Australian parks as a whole, but they'll have to step up soon or they'll get swamped.
  10. I don't know anyone who's told me that they're scared of going upside down who haven't changed their opinion after riding something that goes upside down. Doomsday would be the perfect ride to take someone on who says they're scared of going upside down just to show them that it really isn't any different going upside down on a ride than it is hanging upside down from the monkey bars in the playground. Then they have no excuse when they say they don't want to go on Green Lantern or Arkham Asylum! Being scared of heights/drops makes the most sense, probably the most rational fear when it comes to rides, followed by intense forces. I can ride anything, but the giant drop still gets to me, just because of how unpredictable the drop timing is. I only ever ride once each time I go, just because I have a reputation to keep with my friends; can't be chickening out of rides when I'm supposed to be the coaster nerd!
  11. The problem with high frame rates in cinema, especially for movies like the hobbit, is how much of the movie magic they give away because of it. As @iwerks said. The sets suddenly looked fake and the cgi was twice as obvious. I'm not sure of the exact reason why, but I reckon you're just able to see a lot more information per second, and it'll reveal the ugly details of what is usually hidden behind the safety net of 24fps. 60fps works well for, say, a nature documentary, but for a fictional movie, especially cgi intensive movies, it feels so wrong. Edit: I should clarify that the hobbit was shot at 48fps, not 60, the difference was still very noticeable.
  12. That's a myth. I can definitely tell when a TV is playing at 60fps even if it's not next to a 30fps video. You said it yourself, 60fps looks smoother when you put it side by side with 30fps, so why wouldn't you be able to spot it on its own after observing this? It gets harder for us to tell the higher you go, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some people who can spot 60 vs 90 just by learning the difference through experience.
  13. Depends what you mean by 'wristy' How can you get 2.4 negative Gs on Doomsday? When talking about G forces on the body in rides, vehicles, spacecraft etc. positive Gs are downwards (head to toe) and negative is upwards (toe to head). Max negative Gs you could get on Doomsday is 1, and that's if the ride stops while upside down. Unless the whole structure accelerated upwards at 1.4Gs while the riders were upside down, you would never be able to feel 2.4Gs from toe to head.
  14. If I was going to the GC with a bunch of people who want to ride everything, I'd happily pay for both, but it's hard to convince less enthusiastic people to fork out the cash for both. If I had to pick between them I'd go for VRTP every time. The best things that Dreamworld has to offer over the Village parks are in the flat rides department, and with the animal attractions. The Claw and the Giant Drop are up there as the best flat rides in the country for me (if you can call GD a flat ride). As for VRTP, you have Green Lantern, Scooby Doo, Jet Rescue and Storm Coaster, which are much, much better than the moderate-high thrill coaster alternatives at DW in the Motocoaster and Cyclone (HWSW). Wild West Falls is an incredible ride, and coupled with Viking's Revenge beats the Log Ride/Rapids at DW. Superman Escape and the 2017 Coaster (if it lives up to the hype that those in the know have teased about) completely trump what DW has to offer in terms of extreme coasters. ToT seems really daunting from the outside but on ride I'm not phased by it too much. BuzzSaw is really intense, but it's just not enjoyable for me. I'd rather ride a good moderate ride like WWF or Scooby Doo than ride the Buzzsaw. Granted I don't pay too much attention to the family attractions/animals, but @AlexB has already made a really good argument for VRTP in these departments above.
  15. So glad they've changed up that bridge. It was by far the lamest part of the ride before, it really broke the immersion for a second when that explosion noise went off and nothing happened.
  16. I've definitely been completely drenched by old faithful in Autumn before. I think it's a bit luck of the draw.
  17. @Santa07 How can you be sure it's bias? Maybe people just like B&Ms.
  18. I'm not generally a fan of putting large outside areas under huge roofs, but I do understand the benefits of having it undercover, even if it doesn't look very nice. Also can't help but think the facades are really bland and lack details. Hopefully the utility value of this area makes up for how ugly it is. ('ugly' is just imo of course) The interiors of the buildings do look really nice though.
