How do you get head bashing on a ride with basically no over the shoulder restraints?
-
Not big enough for another ride, but it is bigger than you think as it was built like a theatre, so it had a foyer with ticket booth, then when you went inside it had like 4 or 5 stepped rows with railings where you stood and watched the preshow. When you go into Arkham Asylym now, the guard booth is about where you used to come out of the show into the junkyard. So if you used something as an approximate size, the old outdoor ramp/queue line (where the car and the panic rooms are) is roughly the same size. When they shut Arkham Asylum, if they repurpose all the courtyard up to scooby and superman, there would be enough room for maybe 2 rides. Maybe something like another family launch coaster and a flat? Be a shame to replace a coaster with something other than another coaster, but youd be kidding yourself if you think you are going to see another big spend like dc rivals. So what does that leave you this side of 10 million they dont already have?
-
The old preshow for lethal weapon, where the fright nights escape rooms are is storage. So is the front right side of the building. The queue line isnt that deep and due to the ramp, its pretty much a floor higher than the entrance. If you walk down between superman, theres a roller door there at the front. So pretty much each side of the entry is storage. The courtyard which used to be the wrecking yard is only a couple of meters deep. Would end about where the painted akrham sign is to the right of the roller door is in this photo.

Weve done quite a few retrofits of existing buildings. I reckon it might be more simple than that. Something probably got picked up on a check or audit. Risk analysis done, found unsafe to current standards. Risk is too great even though not required to bring it up to current code. Risk of safety and possible monumental cost if something was to happen required removal and reconstruction. Once you open up that can of worms you start looking at what else was constructed around the same time / materials / techniques, and you maybe find a greater problem than you anticipated. Weve had clients require engineered firewalls. One was so expansive it blew out their budget a couple hundred thousand, then all the reconstruction around the barrier to put it back again. All of a sudden someone is half a million in the hole just to get back to a flat plastered gyprock wall. The alternative isnt even worth considering if the residents of your new apartment are killed because a fairly simple fire made its way through 3 internal walls in the ground floor of your warehouse conversion and youre found out to have cheaped out on safety during the fitout.

I've never understood why people think everything is going to be planned out or executed properly/perfectly on the first night (even nights) of any event. It's not like there are rehearsals before hand, and even with rehearsals things still just don't seem to work well when you actually open. Even stage shows that have months of practice and maybe even years of development, changes keep being made on the fly as they arise. You have a massive human element, not just the actors and staff, but guests too. Until you have actual bodies doing people things, you're just planning for the best and hoping things don't fall apart until you get a bit of a routine happening. That's when you want to see a show if you want everything to live up to your expectations. If later in your run hasn't improved on your opening night, id be pretty worried.

Dreamworld Winterfest
Levithian replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
They just threw labour at it to work into the night to get rivals open roughly when they said they would after that delay. I imagine if they announce a big deadline with a slick looking commercial, if it's looking like running over again on another build they'd get the lights up and crack the whip 24/7 if they could to make it happen, rather than shelve the build up like what has happened with sky voyager. -
Accident on Overseas Log Ride injurs 3
Levithian replied to MickeyD's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You couldn't do much about gravity though, once its at the top of the lift hill and driven out. Depending on how it's fed, it might lose water level pretty quickly from the runout so the boat isn't slowed down enough to float in the remaining water that was just turfed out when the boat came screaming through. The cages would stop people ending up with the weight of a water logged boat on top of them. Im not even sure if a boat could roll with the cage, given the width of the trough, might just end up on its side. The ride wouldn't even be open if the cages were designed and implemented "in house". Not after what happened. Goes double for them being designed without the possibility of the boat rolling over. Had to have been designed with a worst case scenario of it flipping. Government regulators and assessors would have been so far up everyone's arse they would have been chomping at the bit to scrutinize their other water ride and discover any other dangerous flaws or unsupported modifications to let something like crushing by the cage structure or drowning while trapped within go unnoticed. -
Sea World to reveal $50m spend
Levithian replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Waiting to build on reclaimed ground is often to prove it's stable. Most councils usually have some sort of time frame attached where the site is surveyed on top of the engineers report before it's built on. What sort of land was built upon, water levels, courses, fill type, etc, it can all change . Maybe instead of compact, "settle" would be a better word? I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was a money thing for seaworld though. Plans in the works and budgeted that might have ended up elsewhere, then with the accident at dreamworld, the hit to the industry, etc, might have put them back 5 or so years vs what was planned. -
Last lot of holidays it was out of service when we went. Maybe its been removed for repair rather than permanent removal?

Where did i say you dont inspect it? I said you would inspect the track yearly. That means getting in a boom and getting up and close with it. Thats not crack testing though. Big difference. High speed/high load sections, youd crack test yearly regardless of if it passes a visual inspection or not.
-
I don't think you would need to go so deep with inspections for every bit of track. The high speed, high load/force sections would probably be crack tested and inspected like that, but every other bit of track is pretty much like the frame in your house. It's not expected to suffer enough fatigue to cause failure, so a visual inspection is all that's probably needed, then take it further if you find something while looking.

If by amazing you mean a few inspector gadget pieces. https://www.johncox.net/auction-2019/

Does copyright law in australia require you to maintain your ownership of it? As in, you have to actively protect the use of the copyright or it sets a precedent and i think ownership can be challenged under the guise of the ownership has been abandoned (if its not being challenged)?

The council did put money into restoring that carousel. It was closed for awhile previously and lots of things were dismantled. With the change in scrutiny for everything amusement related after dreamworld, id say either the original design of the ride or something about its installation doesnt meet new standards or recomendations and its either too difficult or too costly to bring up to the requirements. Hence the closure or the council putting it out to tender. Not prepared to take on the liability in its current state. Its a pity it hasnt been in place for longer though as the horses may have remained wooden. Would have meant it was worth a considerable amount of money, enough to probably save it.

You guys are being a little harsh. This is perhaps the first sign of the park even attempting to be proactive and implement something thats probably going to be recommended in the coroners findings, well before the state government bangs their drum about training standards. If it means the staff actually get a proper orientation and theres some form of competency based training thats actually delivered and signed off on, then it can only be a good thing.

At this point im starting to believe they spent 25 million on hype and 2 million on making us think they built a new attraction.

Arkham Asylum Facade work
Levithian replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Replacing like for like it seems more than anything. The facade has been up there since lethal weapon, i imagine a fair bit of rott and water damage makes its way into the timbers and reaches a point where it needs gutting and replacing. -
Reviews & Reactions - Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster: Next Generation
Levithian replied to ejpdtd's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The thing is, all the new video, the designs, etc, plus probably how it was implemented in the ride had to be signed off by whoever has the rights to scooby doo. So someone else actually thought the new animation and the ride was up to standard to allow them to use it and open to the public. The park would still pay a licencing fee and have it authorised even if its owned by warner bros. -
Aquaman – The Exhibition at Movie World
Levithian replied to rac2703's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You can clearly see the door is not closed even if its 2/3 open. I guess the door and curtain is an attempt to try and keep some of the AC in. The problem isnt a door, it's nobody had any idea what/where it was. If you go to the park now its the front page attraction on the park maps and staff are carrying them/handing them out and making guests aware of the exhibit. -
Aquaman – The Exhibition at Movie World
Levithian replied to rac2703's topic in Theme Park Discussion
normally door open = open. normally door closed = closed. You know, like pretty much every other shop, outlet and pretty much all the rides but the kid section of the park. Maybe they overestimated peoples ability to navigate through life.
