  1. Hi JulieLovis, welcome to the boards!! Don't stay in the shadows we would love to hear your contributions on a regular basis!! Being a self confessed lover of both of Australia's Luna Park's I would have to say that I disagree with Colliric (but hey, who doesn't?). The time is now ripe for some reinvestment back into the park in the way of permanent attractions. Next year is the 10th anniversary of its re-opening and in this decade we have seen the park show stability and sustainability. However, it desperately needs at least 2 new rides added to its attraction line-up. Top of my list would of course be a new coaster. As has been stated by myself and others many times on these boards, there are plenty of options for small coasters that could fit their footprint in the park. My personal preference would be a Maurer Sohne spinner. Secondly, I also think that a return to its roots- either a River Caves style attraction or a Ghost train attraction would be ideal. The latter is probably a little controversial but I feel that enough time has passed for this type of attraction to make its way back to the park. Also LPS need to make the most of their available space- what they have IS limited but in places it is severely underutilised and with a little planning, more attractions could be introduced. Case in point would be Maloney's Corner, the space next to the Tumblebug, the space next to the Ice Cream shop and the clear space on top of the car park roof. All these could be used as viable space for future permanent attractions. For the you and anyone who is interested here is a very recent Youtube link to a video from the park during 1983. This is a great find and shows the park only a year after re-opening in the wake of the Ghost train tragedy and closure. It shows good vision of the Pirate, the Super Loops, the Octopus (which is now at Aussie World), the WaveSwinger( which is now found on the travelling circuit), a Huss Enterprise, the SuperJet mini coaster( which is also travelling to this day- I remember riding this when I was 6!!) and in the background a Rock 'N Roll. Enjoy!! Cheers!!
  2. I am pretty sure that they could demolish the Eureka Mountain and still maintain access to Buzzsaw. This really would not be a huge issue IMO. The question remains if Dreamworld have the intent to do so.
  3. Realistically Legoland would be highest probable international park to invest in Australia at this point. The Melbourne/Geelong area would be an ideal site for it to be situated. Good population, close to major infrastructure, competition 2 states away, and also the concept is totally unique from anything we currently have in Australia. I think that this concept is a winner and it's only a matter of time before something along these lines becomes a reality in Victoria!
  4. Now that we have this info( great pickup by the way) we can really discuss the full scope of this attraction. Although I really do not feel that these animals are appropriate for a "Sea" themed park, I am betting that the eventual attraction will be world class. Whatever your thoughts or opinions on this, it will be a great addition to Seaworld's attraction list, and another slam dunk for Village theme parks in general. As an aside, is anyone else interested in the use of the wording " African Safari" style attraction and what that could portent??
  5. There is none Reanimated! Nothing definitive. You should realise that - after all look who is saying that.
  6. Glad to hear it Brad!! It was only a lighthearted jest!! You make great contributions to the board!!
  7. You need to a) take a quick course in sarcasm look inward and find yourself a sense of humour, or c) refrain from posting on these boards as the tone is not appropriate for you. I hope you take these comments in the spirit they are meant for!!
  8. You had better be taking the piss ....
  9. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/rollercoaster-is-going-nowhere-fast/2006/01/28/1138319491227.html Here is the link to the SMH article from 2006. It should provide some relevant info for the topic at hand
  10. Sorry Alex1 I didn't exactly mean that I felt the ride needed a complete overhaul. I think that the ride is in pretty good condition despite its age. It's obviously being well maintained as DJ suggested. I only suggested a coaster company come on board to maybe help overcome any difficulties that may prevent the Hammon's from opening the ride or getting it certified. Having a recognized coaster company as a consultant could expedite the Orphan Rocker's eventual opening.
  11. Thanks Pinksmile. I am planning to visit ScenicWorld in September so I will do some investigation and see what has changed. The new Scenic trains look excellent and I am looking forward to riding it to compare to the old train. Please note the complete lack of sarcasm in this post. :-)
  12. Ooops my bad!! Quite correct and my posts have been edited to reflect this!! Apologies to all and to the lawful owners of the Orphan Rocker, the Hammon family!! There was an article on Orphan Rocker from around 2006 in the SMH that interviewed Anthea Hammon and basically dispelled any and all myths regarding Orphan Rocker and it's alleged "safety" issues. It's an interesting read. When I get back to my PC I 'll see if I can dig up the link!
  13. I agree DJ. They appear to not have let the structure fall to ruin and at first glance it appears pretty well maintained. Scenic World appears to be doing very good business and the fact they are continually upgrading their facilities (the new Scenic Railway train being the latest) points to a healthy and consistent business. I am sure that the Hammon's are shrewd and savy enough managers to not let their already considerable investment into Orphan Rocker go to waste. Once they decide to really focus on it, I believe that the Rocker will come to life!! I wonder if they could/would gain assistance from a recognized coaster company like Intamin or Vekoma to aid in getting Orphan Rocker open? ( Note I didn't mention Mack- don't want any rumours starting!! ) Would that be a viable route for them to take??
  14. It is worth noting that the Hammon family have always stated their desire and commitment to opening Orphan Rocker to the public one day. Of course there has never been a timeline put on it but do not discount that one day the real possibility of it opening.
  15. Thanks Slick. Great work!! I am pretty sure that this was the fate of Zodiac as well. Now if someone would like to add further to the discussion of whether Wonderland was profitable that would also be great. I remember that not long after the park closed there was this very debate on these boards . I am pretty sure that some members argued that Wonderland was profitable and that this was just a smokescreen for Sunway to sell the park. Maybe things have changed and opinions altered. Happy to see some evidence to the contrary!!
  16. Ok.....I will ask the question. What system does the Scenic Railway now utilise if it has removed its counterweight driven device?? I am genuinely interested and I will be going to the Blue Mountains in September to ride the new Red Devil. Thanks.
  17. Um pretty sure no one said that it was!! To my knowledge it is still open, unless you have info to the contrary?
  18. Interesting!! From what you have posted , you are stating that the park NEVER operated with a profit at any time of its life! I was under the impression that the park WAS profitable to the day it was sold!! I am sure there are more learned people on this board who can confirm or add to this debate!! Rappa or Joz perhaps??
  19. Still a stupid idea and development. In my humble opinion.
  20. Pretty sure that Zodiac was scrapped!! Can anyone confirm/deny this??
  21. In reality Green Lantern II will not happen. The first film performed extremely badly and Warner Brother's executives are understandably nervous to commit to a sequel. Green Lantern will appear in Justice League perhaps before then. I think the theme of the ride is fine as it is. It DOES tie in with the franchise and does fill out the DC hub in that area of Movieworld quite well and is a recognizable , marketable property. It fulfills it's purpose in this regard.
  22. Lol!! Careful!! That's grounds for deletion!! It is odd however, how the ride has disappeared from the website. It's like, we are going to tease you with a confirmation and then we are going to deny its existence!! I don't think it points to anything too nefarious nor do I think that they have changed their original plans. Perhaps they are simply readying the next round of marketing for the website for the new ride?
  23. Gee something about Melbourne you didn't know RWC!! Wonders will never cease!! Good point rac2703. It could be done but in this case I don't think it will be. Given the room for THREE enclosures I think more likely it will be a static walkthru attractional albeit a heavily themed one.
  24. My thoughts too Reanimated!! Don't get me wrong, I think they will be world class exhibits and will be well themed , however as you point out, it's not really in fitting with the SeaWorld theme. Let's face it, even croc's and hippos are a massive stretch to define them as "Sea Animals" , Gorillas- well not sure how you can sell that!! I suppose if the three enclosures are linked to a Jungle River type walkthru/cruise it might be a little more palatable. I am sure that the attraction is going to be world class, in keeping with the excellence of Shark Bay, Ray Reef and Polar Bear Shores. GoGoBoy, point taken and I see where you are coming from, however those rides probably fit much better into MovieWorld's overall theme and kid precinct on the surface moreso than this new Seaworld exhibit! I am sure all will make much more sense as time passes closer to opening date!!
