  1. To save people clicking through the link.... Possibility of staged restart Dreamworld theme park on Monday Greg Stolz, Lea Emery, The Courier-Mail in 8 minutes DREAMWORLD is set to reopen next week, with owners Ardent Leisure convening a board meeting to finalise plans to get the theme park back on line after the Thunder River Rapids ride disaster. The move to reopen the park following the October 25 tragedy that left four tourists dead comes as the Gold Coast City Council allocated $100,000 towards a summer tourism campaign to help the industry recover. Dreamworld has been closed since the tragedy, amid protracted investigations by police, State Government workplace health and safety inspectors and park-appointed international ride experts. The extended closure has cost the park about $10 million in lost revenue. Police completed their on-site investigation for the State Coroner and handed back the park to Ardent on November 7, but a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland probe has been ongoing as part of a Government audit of theme parks. Inspectors issued 10 breach notices to Dreamworld and sister park WhiteWater World, all related to worker safety. Inspectors returned to the park yesterday to check if the problems had been fixed. Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said that last Friday the park was “ready to move forward towards reopening”, but that “no amusement ride at Dreamworld will open unless it’s 100 per cent safe”. It’s believed Dreamworld is looking at a staged reopening, possibly starting on Monday. Ardent is expected to detail the reopening plan in a statement to the stock exchange before briefing media. The council contribution, meanwhile, will be matched dollar for dollar by the State Government. The pre-summer campaign will include advertising on television and radio in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and northern New South Wales and online content in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Gold Coast Tourism members will also offer holidays and deals. A coronial hearing into the tragedy that claimed the lives of NSW woman Cindy Low and Canberra trio Kate Goodchild, her brother Luke Dorsett and his partner Roozi Araghi is expected to be held next year.
  2. You won't be hearing any audible commotion from 800m away unless they start hosting rock concerts.
  3. I don't think they'd purposely keep the park closed due to a ride in maintenance closure. Remembering there was figures be bandied about of $300k loss per day of closure, both in terms of park revenue, employment costs (which are not being offset by anything) and market losses. Im sure the final decision on re-opening won't be effected by a scheduled maintenance period, but based on the readiness of staff to begin operations, legislative/audit/council finalisations and the general feeling of the families effected.
  4. My bad, and even more so I missed Back to the Future! Yeh it is, Crystal Skull DOES NOT exist...
  5. I think many members of the public judge a ride based on its capacity. whilst I could understand a 2 hour queue in opening season for a coaster, if it was a 2 hour queue every day 6 months later then I would start to view that ride as poorly operated or designed, therefore dropping my satisfaction in the ride itself.
  6. Was stated that buses & golf buggies were not considered feasible
  7. Not really... Star Wars (original trilogy) Lord of the Rings Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy Alien trilogy (4th one was a bit blah) Godfather Trilogy
  8. Agree, the Matrix trilogy comprises one great movie and 2 disappointments. It was cool at the time and for a re-watch once every 2-3 years, but you wouldn't even consider using it as an ongoing property at the theme park
  9. Couple of photos from the launch event as shared by TPSN Hope the snow blaster at the entrance is a ongoing component of the nights, and not just for the launch.
  10. Working on the assumption that the ride will open in the future and that the announcement will happen, also, in the future, it is physically impossible for the announcement to be getting further away unless we are currently travelling back in time.. Given I'm currently fresh out of flux capacitors, I think the announcement is getting closer and closer..
  11. Was also some work being done in the water channel/overflow out the front of the park apologies for the alignment...
  12. I think that's the plan, WWW will literally just become a new 'world/land' within DW.
  13. And just like a cheesy horror movie, the higher the number the more lame it gets..
  14. Minimal changes? There's heaps: * LW --> AA * LTRR --> JDS * BA:TR2 --> JL * Shrek 4D --> Road Runner 4D * LT:WUR gone * Taz Hollywood Cars gone * Chinatown alley gone/inaccessible * GL built * DD & VU precinct built
  15. Yeah, i never expected Dreamworld to appear as though you are in a dream... I'm not sure how you'd even fulfil a brief in trying create that. But if that's what we are heading for, I'm all for Miranda Kerr pouring beers while Margot Robbie gives me a massage in the queue line.. (we may run into some conflicting licensing issues though as Margot would be in her Harley Quinn get up)... waking up in 3, 2, 1....
  16. I had no issue with the Happiness tagline. The signs ok but the problem with chucking the year on it is it becomes obsolete 12 months later and needs to be replaced... or they could get black electrical tape and draw a 6 over the 5 I guess
  17. Maybe just give them a chainsaw with a label 'for use in an emergency only' and they can cut their way out of the control box if necessary. Of course, for safety requirements, the petrol jerrycan to fill the chainsaw will require a double key simultaneous lock sequence, a retinal scan and a series of trigonometry & Pythagoras theorem problems to be answered with 100% accuracy. I always found I was better at maths when chunks of burning timber were falling down around me..
  18. Thanks for the review. Couple of points from your SW trip. *the aircon in the monorail is non-existent or never works if it's there, so you're basically in a slow moving tin can. *weird you didn't see a polar air, I've never seen one not in the enclosure before. That water and the lower area of the enclosure is completely climate controlled, and given they have shown an ability to contribute to a strong breeding program and re-home the bears in Canada, I have no problem with them being there. *Nick land doesn't flow perfectly as it was constructed with some of the exiting rides remaining and the others building around it. It is by far however, the best kids offering of any theme park MW *someone may correct me, but the Junior Driving School has a set 150 second cycle as far as I know, and isn't changed depending on how busy it is
  19. So my son & I had our first 'proper' theme park trip post DW accident today (partner was a bit iffy with my son going on rides after what happened - so we'd done 2 PC trips). Couple of observations from the day.. *amentities are much improved across the park *wasnt as busy as I expected given schoolies is on *the parade has changed the music around - and it sucks. No music on the entry lap, basically just 'elevator music', then on the way back one song, and then a return to the same elevator music. It's been 6 weeks since the last visit, but no idea why this was changed, it really kills the atmosphere *JL effects were all working for the first time I can remember in a year, including the Starro projection on the mist curtain. The door even opened at the correct timing with the Green Lantern projection, BUT, we got half way through the doorway when it appeared we e-stopped. Just sat there for a good 2 mins, with the door continually trying to close every 10 seconds and hitting the side of the car... eventually we moved through, guns no longer working and no screens functional except the final one. * didn't check the maintenance page, but it seemed strange to have basically all the moderate thrill rides down at the same time (SDSC, Batwing & Doomsday)
  20. Maybe people were downvoting the fact that nothing was happening, as opposed to you telling them? like when Facebook used to only have the thumbs up like button, and you posted "my granny just died, so sad" and it appeared as though you'd have about 120 people liking that your granny is dead...
  21. Haha... I was never good at thinking my plans the whole way through..
  22. I've already worked that out! Haha Just quote the complaintants address (it's on their letter). They seem like old fuddy duddys, I doubt they'd be FN enthusiasts. Haha
