  1. I think the Shrek 4D attraction will be great for Movie World. The Powers to be don't seem to have an issue with its inclusion, so why should we. It should be all about the experience for the patron. Universal have used the studio facilities in the back lot for a number of movies. Do people really want to go back to the old studio system where you could only work or present for one studio??? I don't think so, there would be nothing to gain.
  2. Yeah a very similar layout to last year with the exception of the Hard Rock moved to near the main entrance. Twin Flip is just inside on the right as well. It will be action stations tomorrow - lets hope for some great weather!
  3. Has any approaches been made to the current management to see if the train carriages have been retained intact or have they been destroyed? You never know they allow you to have them. Luna park melbourne retained their two Big Dipper carriages when it was pulled out and used them as decoration in the park. Has anyone got or know of a register of items, equipment and memorabilia related to Wonderland? I know there would be alot of photos around! A retrospective exhibition is a great idea but the amount of work that is involved is quite high and time consuming. Most exhibition planning can take 18 months to two years from idea to execution. Alot of dollars are also needed if it's to be done properly. The Powerhouse would be an ideal choice of venue but they would work on a 12 - 24 month ahead schedule. Most institutions operate like that! With the right planning, approached could be made to the NSW Ministry for the Arts, the Australia Council and local government authorities (local council) for funding support. A corporate sponsor or two may be interesting in coming on board. With proper research a catalogue could compliment the exhibition documenting the 20 years or so of Wonderland.
  4. I'm onsite at the Adelaide Showgrounds as of Thursday. Will be interesting to see if the rides are in the same layout as last year. I'll endevour to get some photos taken over the next few days.
  5. The Shrek 4D tvc's started in Adelaide in the last couple of days stating the attraction opens on September 17. When I emailed WBMW yesterday to get more information, Guest Services replied they have no information at the moment and keep checking out the website?? Interesting, considering that Dreamworld have given a date for ther New Wiggles World, as well as a sneak preview of inside the attraction!
  6. From NineMSN this afternoon: 'The celebrations for Monday night's Big Brother winner Greg may still be continuing, but Network Ten has wasted no time in announcing that the reality television show will return in 2006. An average audience of 2.28 million people tuned in on Monday night to watch Greg triumph over the short-odds favourite Tim, according to OzTam figures.' I don't think there is a chance that Dreamworld would let the BB juggernaut out of its site. It's a great cross-promotional tool for them. The infrastructural support and cost that would be needed to re-create the house compound, studio and auditorium at another location would be quite significant. The fact that the house was built on reclaimed land (part of it is semi-swampland) and bushland makes it an ideal location. We just hope we don't see the area flood again like it did a few weeks ago - it came very close to evacuating the house compound for safety reasons.
  7. The River Caves were down the beach end of the park next to the Scenic Railway Station. The Rotor was next to the Carousel, the Spider replaced it for many years, though I think the area has table and chairs located there now. A resurrection of the River Caves, The Giggle Palace and a refurbishment of the Ghost Train would make ideal additions.
  8. Zamperla, Not sure on that one. I believe the old function centre was used as their meeting / services room. As for the rides, I don't know what happened to them. I'll try to get out there this weekend, as I am currently in Melbourne for a few weeks. Cheers!
  9. Was out at the Royal Melbourne Show Site last Friday. One messy construction zone - will it be ready for the 2005 Show? Does anyone know what happened to the Mad Mouse? Has it been placed in storage or has it been sold?
  10. Hi All, I remember Leisureland. The roller coaster was very basic with a couple of dips. The Park had a basic set of rides, a function centre, mini golf etc but mainly was aimed at the picnic set. The Park was sold many years ago (more than a decade) to a religious group. Have no idea what it has become as I haven't been out that way in years.
  11. LPM has been up for sale for awhile. I believe an anoouncement is pending on the new owners. Price was to be less than $8 million. Though in light of the two recent accidents, this maybe delayed. I was at LPS in March, though they have done alot of work it has lost alot of its earlier charm. I agree the return of the rotor and or the river caves would be great. In addition to a new coaster to replace the Metropolis.
  12. Though I think the auction is a good idea, MW has offered test phase rides to park patrons if you have been lucky to be there on the day. I rode Scooby Doo a number of times during its test phase and it was great.
  13. I remember the Rivercaves from Melbourne. Though I vaguely remember the scenes, what has been mentioned kindles nostaglia. I was reading on the LPM site yesterday, the history of LPM and there is also some historical shots and a comprehensive report on the refurbishment of the Carousel.
  14. I'm not a big fan of pre-ride videos etc unless they work. The last time I was at MW in 2002, the WWF falls video was not working, though LW was and was quite boring. I felt it detracted from the ride. This was the test weekend of the SDSC. Lots of fun to ride a new attraction in the testing phase.
  15. Maybe these residents and the developrs need to get a life. Some of the reasons are absolutely laughable. Is the NSW Government assisting LPS? I hope so, as they would have interests at stake if the unlikely scenario of LPS being restricted. This will not only affect ride operations but other events in the Big Top: eg. dance parties The housing developers should be taken to task. If there is any new infrastructure or refurbishments done, then you would think that the apartments should have been double glazed. Also, are the same residents going to stop other events such as NYE on the Harbour, as the fireworks may disturb their amenity?? My two cents worth!

  17. The colourblast effects do exist in this country in a variety of forms since 2002. Global Television used a modular version in the last series of Australian Idol as a lighting feature and part of the set design. Jands distribute a system called Chroma Q which I believe are licensed by CKI (Color Kinetics Inc.)
  18. Whatever happened to the old Kenny Koala animatronic show? Is it in storage at DW or was it given to a museum?
  19. Hi Katz, expressions of interest for ride and game operators closed on February 4. It would be likely, that a majority of the Easter Show rides will make there way to Brisbane.
  20. Paul, Try this link: www.eastershow.com.au/article.aspx?contentid=100 it's an overview, but hey! also, Lexia Johnson, Media Manager - Show Media Centre, 9704 1338 or 0408 692 951 Jacqueline Reis, Show Media Centre, 8204 3853 or 0425 278 583 Claudia Cooney, Show Media Centre, 9704 1453 or 0439 023 344 cheers,
  21. Paul, which show are you referring to? If you contact the media manager at the respective show you are after, they should be able to assist. Some such as Sydney has a brief history on it's website.
  22. Most rides that appeared at Sydney will appear at the Melbourne Show. Though this will depend on the tendering and selection process that takes place. The Zipper and other great attractions were missing from the Adelaide Show last year. This is due in part to the fate Wittingslows.
  23. The Western Action Show venue was also used by Channel 7 in the 90's for one of there game shows!
  24. If anyone made it to Moomba, the carnival site was very poor compared to the years when Whittingslow managed it. This year it consisted of a handful of rides - slingshot, double ranger, a ferris wheel, a number of kids rides and the love train. Was very disappointed, as i hadn't been for a number of years and have fond memories of the Alexandra Gardens Carnival of the past. Has anyone got any photo's of the new rides at the Easter Show?
  25. It may have been possible that the Premier was talking to Disney Film Ex's. OS Film production in NSW is down considerably. The Premier has also announced a new fund to atract OS Film investment in NSW.
