  1. Just wondering if DW has gone and closed GD as a precautionary measure as Six Flags and Cedar Fair have done as a result of the accident at Kentucky Kingdom two days ago?
  2. Shrek Live runs for a limited time only and won't be sticking around for long after the holidays. Thanks for your nice comments regarding the set and all, we all think they've done a great job and it's nice to see something of such quality back in the show stage, an underutilised venue for a long time now. As far as this talk of a Western show, the show stage was originally the western action show, which later was transformed into the Maverick show. Don't have your hopes up for seeing a return of the western show to this venue however there are some pretty big plans in the pipeline.
  3. 2nd Train is still in many many parts out the back in the workshops. I can't remember if two train op was meant to be back for the holidays on Superman but I wouldn't be expecting it on LW given the state of the train last week.
  4. Given it's sitting the car park waiting installation I would say yes, there is a very good 'chance'
  5. First of all nothing has progressed with construction yet, all the pieces are still in the car park, will keep an eye on things though. When it comes to new rides its all about expenditure 'vs' return on investment. If the money folks can see that SW is profitable enough without adding any new attractions and that doing so wouldn't significantly increase takings then you have a very tough time convincing the shareholders to spend the money. And unfortunately that's what it all comes down to, the shareholders want to see return on their investment, if they're not going to get that, you're not going to see any new rides.
  6. Well I know someone was intending to go take photos this morning. When I said twisty I was more refering to the fact that its the intamin 'truss' type track so it has lots of bits. Was just kind of saying that for the amusement factor, sorry for confusion. All the track has been unloaded and is now behind solid fencing so the chance to check it out nice and easy has kind of passed, guess we'll have to wait for vertical construction for it to make its next appearance
  7. Lots of shiney blue twisty metal stuff started appearing in the WnW car park today...
  8. Slide is only open on weekends because it requires a lifeguard to be on duty to supervise so they save money when it's quiet. If you've ever been on the smaller slide and know the force you rocket out of that thing with you would understand why they need the LG.
  9. There is nothing to say the park won't allow people to ride without shoes (or possibly even shirts) for that matter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  10. So far off topic but I'll say anyway that I would recommend Sun City to anyone, best hotel on the coast IMO. Unfortunately the Left hand (bigger) slide is only open over the Christmas period during the week and weekends during summer. The other slide is open all the time though and still packs a punch.
  11. Ok I'm not going to say anything more but I'm pretty damn sure this thing is coming... keep an eye out people! *disclaimer this post was not made using any inside info from work, I'm not about to break any rules of employment.
  12. From what I understand Batwing is/was open but only had/has FIVE seats operational, making for some extremely long lines...
  13. You know I'm not sure I agree. It is against park policy and I will never be one to advocate breaking park rules so I'm not going to support what they did. But that doesn't say I don't think it's a stupid policy, that was the one great thing about the Europe parks is they don't have these silly no loose articles policy and everyone seems to manage just fine. I'm not blaming the parks here, it's our stupid legal system that forces them to be ths way.
  14. Okay I can't really go into detail and say what they are doing to the ride but I can tell you they are trying to get the work completed as soon as possible. There work being done is nothing related to 'opening the ride before it was ready,' just rather some adjustments that need to be made now that they have had the ride up and running for a decent period of time. There are a few things on our spaceshot that are new and haven't been tried before to do with the ride systems so there is some adjustments to be made.
  15. I think you'll find the dates keep moving as they work out what they are doing with Batwing. Obviously the park doesn't want to have it's two newest attractions down at the same time...
  16. Commissioning is the process of 'finishing off' a building, ride, whatever, prior to handing it over to its new owners. It's basically where the work any of the bugs out and make sure everything is working properly. The first I hear of this is your post so this is PURELY speculation but I'd say after having the ride open for a month or so there are some things they'd like to either change or improve and now that the busy season is ending they are going to take the time to do that.
  17. Well dw rulz, how great of you two quote two complete posts in your response. I'm sorry but that's a person forum pet peve of mine, right up there with people feeling the need to re-post photos from other peoples posts just to talk about them, I find it really annoying. And just to clarify I never said that their information WAS COMPLETELY FALSE AND MADE UP. I said I find it hard to believe that if they had this info which was private and not to be shared before it was uncovered, they would now be freely talking about it. Just because one source uncovered something about the ride, doesn't mean its suddenly okay to release your privledged information, I hope people realise that.
  18. Thing is the rumour of PA closing has been doing the rounds for years both inside and outside of the park... So whilst I'm not about to discount it that it won't happen, I'm not about to say that it will either ^useless post GO LOL
  19. Really now of all the WVTP properties the one that would seem most likely to receive any attraction themed to surfing would quite possibly be the one where you're in your swimmers and are kind of like being at the beach... Which park would that be? I know it sounds crazy but just remember this post should a surfrider coaster show up at a waterpark that's not next to Dreamworld.
  20. Okay I have many things to say here Firstly I'm with Nev, unless you've been on one of these things you can't judge it. They are pretty awesome, Velocity was a damn great ride, I even thought that if you took of the handly bars and only had the back half of the restraint it could be used as a whole different style of flying coaster. The forces you get are really interesting, plenty of airtime and a solid launch, a really good ride IMO. I think it's damn funny that firstly two days ago we knew nothing of Dreamworld getting this ride. Then already there is at least one post saying how they thing the ride will be lame and not meet our expectations. GEEZE guys just wait until they at least anounce it before you start bashing it with unfounded ideas. Secondly I find it VERY hard to believe that people already have sources on the inside about what this ride will be. Past precident has shown that no one can keep their mouth shut with secrets on new rides, so I'm pretty sure if people knew about this before Ian brought it to our attention we would have seen something posted... ...just something I found funny, and always do on forums when new rides are annouced...
  21. I do love that 'apparently.' Sounds completely professional on a Dreamworld standard to me!
  22. Actually you are the one that sounds stupid with such a meaningless post! The booster bikes are a great fun ride (even if not especially 'boy friendly') and would be a great addition to dreamworld.
  23. Well see the cost of digging up carpark and replacing it with new asphalt is like bugger all compared to the cost of building a monorail system or similar. Especially when it comes to long term running costs, which is what you have to think about most off. With the way things have been this summer with MW, WnW and AOS I don't think it will be long before you see the precinct having to consider building a multi story parking structure to service all three properties. I don't think there is anyone that doesnt see the properties expanding further and one day merging as a complete entertainment precinct and when that happens I'd say that's how you'd see things going in regards to parking.
  24. The thing is there is a big difference between knowing what is 'safe' in regards to what you can get away with and following strict OH&S workplace safety standards. In many cases travelling show operators are their own masters, so they know what is going to get them hurt, no you can jump onto this platform whilst it is slowly moving etc. Much the case of "we've been doing it this way for years, it's fine." I like to call it the 'Use your Common Sense" approach. When it comes to big parks all that common sense goes out the window. The legal department come in and basically treat everyone (no matter how skilled or knowledgeable they may be) like they are a moron and have no idea how the look after themselves. You see policies put in place that would prevent even the stupidest person from injuring themselves. This is why you usually see a higher degree of safety measures (as opposed to safety because the other way really is usually safe) in place when it comes to big companies... So whilst the travelling shows may be just as safe, you will usually see many more steps, however warranted or not that may be, taken by big permanent amusement parks.
