Whilst I think Ice Skating for the Big Top is a really cool idea I must disagree with the tone of your post. The Big Top really is more than 'just being used as a function centre.' As someone who has worked in there several times now it is a top class venue. One of the nicest and easiest to work in in Sydney and has the potential to go a long way. It probably beats the Hordern in my opinion and I think as time progresses we will come to see some big name acts through there. Now let us never speak of the Busta Rhymes incident again...

Just thought I'd start a new thread rather than keep going in the DW forum. Yes the ride will be down most of Feb. I wouldn't hope for any chance of a refund as this is public knowledge on their website and all rides go down from time to time in off peak periods. Besides out of any ride at MW I'd say the best one to have down is LW. You really aren't missing anything as major as if most of the other attractions were down. I also think it's great to see this ride getting such an extended rehab, hopefully it will come out running great afterwards.

HAHA, that was just so funny in how many black pots were in that statement I just had to take a moment to gather my composure

I dont think there is any need for that kind of response Paul, especially given some of the crap that comes out of your mouth that we all have to listen too. Honestly I sometimes I really do think this site needs height and age restrictions... that could work because then you probably wouldnt be able to ride with a mental condition which gets rid of half the morons kicking around

What would you name your ride/coaster?
rappa replied to inTIMidated's topic in Theme Park Discussion
For some reason I am really liking that name of Slick's... Project Dimension just sits well with me as a possible name for a ride. -
Okay well I will also be in town from the 14-18th of Feb. Last year I was there a week later and the place was dead. Only park that had moderate attendance was WnW which to me was more the Uni student type crowd. I personaly found this a great time of year to visit. It wasn't anything like the holiday crowds but there were still plenty of people around town and it had a good atmosphere. Movieworld on a monday was DEAD, maybe 5min wait the longest of the day. DW later in the week (thurs) was pretty much quiet as as well. I wouldnt say dead but certainly a more than comfortable level. Funny thing is it also seems that at DW the entire population of the park dissapears sometime after midday and the place just empties out.

Intamin Rocket easily miles out in front - the perfect coaster IMO 4-D comes in Second Stand Up comes in 3rd Closeley behind that would be floorless and GIB. Also a pretty big fan of the Hyper and Gigas

I dont think we do have a 'best' park. I think the one great thing about the Gold Coast parks is they are all different and all fill a particular segment of the market. Each of them have something different to offer. Whilst it may be possible to do a comparison of them I don't think is is posssible to get a quantatative answer as to which is the 'best' park of the 4. As another side matter. Richard in the article (which I thought was a great read when I read it yesterday) you mentioned none of the parks really measure up in the entertainment category on something of a broadway scale... I'm just interested to hear what your thoughts would have been had you included Aladdin at DCA in that article? From someone who works in the industry I can certainly say that show is professional class and would easily kick half the pro theatre shows we get down here. On top of that the theatre would easily top the biggest we have in Sydney...

Geeze you're a moron man. Funny that the park put out a press release stating that they ARE building the ride! If only some of the lower life forms that inhabit these forums could get a minor understanding of how business works before they go opening their mouths it would be really great. Sometime I really do wish there was an over 18s forum site!

Im actualy pretty sure that given the rides historical significance they probably could have gotten around the colour rules if they had really wanted to... Just a thought -
More Rides At Sydneys Luna Park For School Holidays
rappa replied to Mrmoon427's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yes I love the Big Top. It's one of my favourite Venues to work in now and we have done several gigs in there in the last few months. I also worked in Crystal Palace for the first time last week and it's quite nice also. Just a shame to see why no expense has been spared here, it has elsewhere. No I agree the wall is staying, however from my understanding the original intention was to actualy construct all the extra features that are depicted in the mural. Same for the Catwalks, yes they are probably required but they didn't need to be so obviously steel add ons and painted yellow did they? -
or 16 million for that matter in terms of TTD if they were going for something even remotely record braking!

No Bus I respectfuly think you are wrong. That back area of the park looks dodgy as. It doesn't matter if they plan to change the rides around (and I doubt they will) the way they are at the moment is still a poor effort. The whole area is **** from from the fact you enter through a little path around the side and underneath coney island. They should forget that whole idea and try again, I think the residents would be a lot less vocal too if it wasn't for that poorly constructed part of the park. It's not just that area either. If you now see they are painting the temporary facade of the Wild Mouse as well. Look like they decided against building what was going to be there as was depicted on the facade and are simply painting in the plain white wall. I still don't know why they didnt keep the block of cheese look and leave the dodgems underneath if this is what they are doing now. The whole mouse looks really crap with all the bright yellow catwalks and the like they have added on. -
The Australian Outback Spectacular goes ahead
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Guys, come on, you are winging about paying 60 BUCKS!! How much do you think shows of this calibre cost? 60 bucks is cheap as, especially if you are getting dinner. I would compare this to something like the Man from Snowy spectacular that was touring a year or so ago. Tickets to that would have been in the 100 dollar range. I don't think they will be really bothered if thrill ride people aren't into this, its a different market. I personally am very interested and will certainly go see the show. I also don't know if you guys realise just how much a show like this costs to get up and keep running... -
Well as someone who's favourite coaster is Xcel, which I don't see changing for a very long time I must say I am a fan of the overbanks. From my point of view I see the coaster as perfect. I could ride it all day no worries without any sort of sickness or headache coming on. It's the only coaster I've found this on. I've racked up 50 rides on one visit and 30 on the next and still don't get tired of it. The launch is amazing and the top hat is great but having the 2 overbanks just gives it something else to do and keeps the ride going for a bit. It also alows for the ride to run with 2 train op without stacking so that's another point to consider...

Okay FIRST... There was indeed 1 lever on both BB and Beastie and also a Go, E-stop and indicator light on a panel at the Brake Run end of the station. The lever was in fact to operate the original station gates (it has a few hoses coming into the air valve it was connected to). The tiny control panel was indeed used to enable or E-stop the lift as said. SECOND Nothing nasty in any way here Alex but I don't think you can accuse someone of having a fake name...after all

When endevour was in its old location it was actualy called "Sea Deamon." It used to be the first ride I ever went on, then you would walk up under the large pavillion/vine covering the road and through the rainbow (also in it's old location) and into HBB land. I still remember the first time I went to WL with my dad after they moved Endevour. We asked someone where it had gone and they just told us that it wasn't at the park anymore. I was very sad but we were then delighted to find a very very similar ride called HMAS Endevour in Goldrush! Hey does anyone know of another ride of this model in existence anywhere? I still used to find it cool that WL had this, Tassie Devil and Wizards Fury all of which (although not one offs) were pretty unique.

Funly enough Richard's name on this site is "Richard"

HAHA Love your work mate. I sure hope those new cables at least make one quick lap around the carpark between the car and its supports Scenic worlds not the only park that loves cables though.
-
Well the new Scenic Skyway at Scenic World in Katoomba is suppossed to open this month (the date was actualy posted but is now gone) however after speaking to Scenic World today it looks like the opening is now back to December. Guess they might be having some commissioning problems...

Or maybe I need to come up there and start getting people drunk again LOL

Funny that I'm pretty sure Rabid didn't go around PMing people telling them to come over to his sight and that it is much better than R-C.com I'm sure if Rabid did though he would be smart enough not to send such messages to Richard's mates

What Would You Have Done With WLS Had It Not Closed Down?
rappa replied to scott's topic in Theme Park Discussion
YAY Finaly a post I can say yes that is fair enough, logical and non 'we love WL' biassed. I think as you say WL was operating in the 'real' way. That's the point that I think needs to be made about the park, it simple couldn't/did not want to operate using the 'best' method as many of the overseas parks it was being compared to do. I think we are both saying the same thing in regards to the heights. The whole point is that YES the operator is ultimately responsible but they should be in a possition when then have 100% confidence in the people working around them not to have to check everything themself. I do this everyday, I have to be confident in the knowledge that my crew are doing their job and 6t of rigging and lights isn't going to fall on some poor audience or performers head. Same goes for rides, many other parks operate in this way, WL should be able to as well. Yes you said it perfectly Bus, worcover are a stupid governing body. They react to incidents and set rules accordingly with little thought to the greater implications they may have. This is illustrated perfectly in the loose footware policies we see in place. -

rappa replied to scott's topic in Theme Park Discussion
No a shirt and thongs are completely different. In most cases yes footware should be worn but I just dont see the justification on these unsupported leg rides. Thongs is no more hygenic than no footwear at all and it is just contradicting the no loose articles policies that are in place. Either make it 'fully enclosed footware' or allow leaving thongs behind, it just follows no logic. Make it noted that I never wear thongs to a park. -
What Would You Have Done With WLS Had It Not Closed Down?
rappa replied to scott's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This is actualy pretty funny to read because Alex is statying how the ride 'should' have been operated and Bus is arguing against him with how the ride WAS operated. This is the point I think Bus, you keep saying he is wrong because it was done in "x" or "y" particular way. Do you think that maybe WLs way of operating the ride was maybe not the best? Just look at most other parks, 'attendants' are charged with enabling ride vehicles, leaving the console operator (or tower member) to concentrate on that job. Same goes for heights, the operator shouldn't have a need to be concerned about heights because he/she should know the rest of the ride crew are doing their job properly in checking heights. And the shoes thing is one of the stupidest things I've thought about park operations in a long time. Why have all these loose article policies when you then demand that thongs be worn? Just exactly what is not having shoed on going to do on a ride like probe or lethal weapon??? But being as you mentioned it, if the pre-show members were spotting thongs and the like they would be telling guests to ensure they leave them on. Once again most of your arguments Bus are supported purely by the fact that WL didn't run its ride all that properly. And capacity doesnt exactly mean how many are actualy on the ride, its how many it can carry, so one seat being empty doesnt change its capacity. If you half fill a 5L bucket then its capacity is still 5L. This problem is mostly created though by only running 1 or 2 person Op. If you have a member in pre-show they can get single riders which fill that 4th seat. Every wondered why Single Rider Lines are so popular?
