Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for these items?
-
Yes I agree with Alex in that it is on topic and its got to be the best wonderland resource on the net, so we probably could/should still allow the URL to be posted. However it's Richards site to do what he wants with, so I don't know if posting to get around restrictions is the best thing to be doing either.

Corkscrew down for maintenance... during xmas holidays >:(
rappa replied to Theme Park Girl's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't know any details so please don't take this as official word from the park... however, Corkscrew's downtime is not scheduled. Meaning it is not part of a planned maintenance. Every attraction goes through rigorous daily checks and even more comprehensive weekly, monthly and annual ones also. If every anything is found in these checks that is not 100% perfect the ride doesn't open, it's as simple as that. Safety is the number 1 priority. As with all complex pieces of mechanical equipment things break unexpectedly. Obviously something must be wrong with the ride, and they would be working to have it open as quickly as possible. Just curious, did you actually ride Jet Rescue? On the thrill meter Corkscrew is pretty tame, I don't think most people would be disappointed with Jet Rescue. Inversions aren't everything. -
I rode this morning and loved the ride (as a coaster that is), found it hard to fault if not impossible. The 2nd half packs some real speed and punch and I'd probably rate it as my favourite of this new 'motorbike' style of coasters. As for theming, its a good job, to be critical I would sooner all the track over water but for the coaster section that's my only fault. The animatronics are good enough given you're going so fast you almost miss them. The Cave has been done well although it suffers from the new trend in theming of ignoring the bits where (most) people won't look. I think the left wall should have been themed also, but that's my only real gripe. I hated the station, the loose articles policy is stupid because the ride does not travel over people. Sunglasses will never come off, and anything in a zipped pocket should be allowed. Why won't everyone else learn from Disney in this respect? The handling of articles was done much better by Dreamworld IMO, the lockers are a disaster. Other faults with the station are the fact you que beside the transfer track, you can see hoses and plant everywhere, the audio is really unintelligible and the screens at the conclusion achieve nothing because you're off the ride by the time it gives you the unload instructions. Only other gripe is the long run of cable tray complete with hoses, cable and 100s of uncut cable ties that sprawls out in front of you along the launch track. I believe all of this could be tidied up easily and as will all rides, these things improve as the attraction finds its feet. Now I know the negative went longer than the positive but that's just because there isn't much to say in the positive that isdn't summed up by GREAT. Excellent layout, great use of pace, great balance of family and thrill, decent theming and just a good, well presented attraction. It's very Seaworld. Once Corkscrew re-opens it will really round out Seaworld’s ride line up well.

I can't myself but to say this, opening 'night' has come and gone and the show isn't finished, that can only be described as FAIL. It's just embarising. Outback spectacular was delayed, and not ready at previews but people worked round the clock to ensure the show was complete on opening night. Guests that had seen the ad and paid their money got what they were promised. Now I expect the show to improve with time but to miss the opening and then say it's now in preview mode is just poor. Previews should have been weeks ago. There is no fire, no car jump and no STUNTS, as alex b said, you can see drifting in southport any Saturday night. On a positive I wrode jet rescue today and it's great.

Good to hear other peoples responses and thoughts on the show, I hope public opinion will match yours. All I will say is the Lights Motors Action show at Disney really lacks any decent story, charm or comedy. What makes it a watchable and pretty decent show is the amazing stunts, technology and trickery in use. Without these it would just be boring and bland and just not that impressive... ...that's all I'm going to say. As for the cars, I thought they made next to no sound, in fact the music was louder than them in most parts.

Yes I'll be honest I was standing in the Bermuda station not so long ago and remarking that it would be interesting to see the theming detail if the ride were built today. The boxes around the concrete supports for the overbridge are a prime example. There is no doubt they'd be bare concrete today... You only have to look at recent changes to the volcano to see standards have dropped, and geeze I'm trying my hardest to fix that. I have been assured the cave will look like a cave inside... but Im reserving my judgement till I see it, can't confirm soft opening yet though.

God forget new rides, I've heard everything (now this is from outside the company or just run of the mill staff, nothing official, confidential or from management) from closing Outback Spectacular, or replacing the show, to selling it, selling Seaworld, selling Wet N Wild, closing paradise country and anything and everything in between. Couple that will the one that John Menzies is definitely leaving next year and you could entertain yourself for hours reading in to them all -
No there is no continuous commutator rail in the dark ride section. With all the bends it really wouldn't be practicle. Plus you would be able to see it along the track.

construction is actually running ahead of schedule with no major issues in comissioning. The only aspect slighty behind is theming which is to be expected given the huge amount of inclement weather of late. This could never have been forseen in any construction timeline planning.

It makes me wonder what the life guards were doing if this was able to happen. Several girls being approached by a group of youths more than once and them being able to be assaulted sounds like they're not doing a very good job supervising the pool. At GC parks there are even underwater cameras that are monitored so even if the 'assults' were going on beneath the surface they would be seen.

So is this system wireless or not?

Dreamworld to get virtual queuing in two weeks time
rappa replied to glennborthwick's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The fundamental problem here is the Australian psyche. I can safely say that any Dreamworld visitor that rents a qbot is going to be expecting to ride as many rides as they want all day, as many times as they want. Regardless of what it says on the sign, brochure, ad, etc, theme park mentality (ie leave your brain at the gate) dictates that's what park guests will be expecting. -

Glenn you have a completely unobjective view here. At least company marketing folk are expected to have such views. It's great for your experience ifyou can afford it but ifyou can't it ruins your day. Families save their pennies so they can come to a park and forget reality for a day. The last thing they need is to be reminded in park that they are poor. Or have to explain to their kids why they have to wait whilst others walk by. Being able to reserve a place without even having to go to the ride is just wrong, and again creates more problems for those not using it. I for one don't see having to plan my fun as a positive. And to imply Disney doesn't know what they are doing when it comes to crowd management is just comical. -
Sea World Resort to get Water Park from Sea World
rappa replied to Bush Beast Forever's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Resort and sea world are one entity so there is no change is upkeep costs. -
You'd be silly to believe an official statement, as you would that this is because if the crisis. The reaction is not over the number of staff but over who.

there is no stop and wait for the second launch

Sea World Resort to get Water Park from Sea World
rappa replied to Bush Beast Forever's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's a bit of a funny one, as a theme park water park it kinda blows, but as a hotel pool area it's pretty kick ass! Would many visitors to sea world really be that disappointed they can't go to the water park? -
Five cars would make sense as they have 7 in total. Shame about the quiet cars, the custom motorcycle engines in the Disney cars make them nice and loud on the set. It will be interesting to see how the show works being so heavily based on the stunts and not a comedic story line. The Disney show pulls it off with it's MASSIVE budget and high use of technology. Just watching the automation in the set itself as it resets itself whilst the cars do a turn around and come back through for another stunt is quite a show. I know in the MW show the ramps, jumps, etc will be brought on and off manually by the techs. I also noted the small size of the control booth so I'm guessing this show will again be a one man Op. The disney show has several crew in the FOH booth to run the show. Having said all that we've seen time and time again how good an effort MW does with a fraction of the budget of it's US counterparts and pulls something great off everytime. I notice we don't have any of the trick cars like the back seat driver or the 'remote' car but the cantilevered jump across the set should be quite special. Do we know who is building the show? Steve Courtney/FX Illusions? Whilst I don't expect to see something as great in terms of story line as Police Academy (I've yet to see anything top it around the world), the MGM show is still very impressive so I have high hopes. Just need to get the cars louder, faster and higher now.

You can get yourself one of those carts at a place at Sanctuary Cove Joz, although they aint cheap! Richard you've seen the MGM show right? My opinion is great stunts, crap show. How do you think HST will compare?

Yeah my verdict is out on the tunnel theming too, surely a bigger tunnel with some good render or fibre rockwork walls and water couldn't have added much cost to the project... However I will wait until its finished before I pass any judgment.

Dreamworld to get virtual queuing in two weeks time
rappa replied to glennborthwick's topic in Theme Park Discussion
THAT IS NOT! the way the Disney system works... The Disney system is available to all park guests, free of charge. It does not discriminate against those that can't afford to use it. It also only lets you hold a place in line at one ride at a time AND is only used on their bigger draw/lower capacity attractions. And you're talking a park where 20 000 people is a dead day, even with attractions that can pump 2000 people per hour through. Even Disney has admitted the system doesn't always work and in some cases can create longer waits. In the case of Pirates at DLR they removed fast pass and the waits dissapeared... Dreamworld can fix its entire wait times problem by a)adding more staff to run attractions properly and b)having higher capacity attractions and running the ones they already have to their full potential. AUSTRALIAN PARKS ARE NOT BIG ENOUGH IN TERMS OF ATTENDANCE TO WARRANT VIRTUAL QUEING! And let me just say, I've known about this for nearly a week now and I'm still as angry about it as I was when I first heard.
