Just to be clear, he is talking about Electrical Storms in terms of them shutting down the rides at WnW.

The problem is the OTSRs are do samn 'deep.' You sit so far back in them that they cover so much of the sides of your head and thats where you get beaten up. You look at Corkscrew and pretty much your whole head sits in front of the restraint. I find that with the knowledge I have after riding it so many times I can ride 'defensively' and anticipate the changes in direction and not get my head slammed. I still feel like crap after riding it though and won't bother to re-ride. For a first time rider though, it can sure beat you up, pity because it's a cool layout.

Well I've said it before and I'll keep saying it the perfect attraction for seaworld would be a Maurer Söhn Spinning Coaster. IMO get a clone of Dragons Fury from Chessignton as this was a wicked coaster, much better than Spinball at Alton. It could go on the vacant land between BT and Corkscrew and its the perfect balance between family and thrills, it's also not THAT expensive.

Just thought I'd let you know that the Clover Leaf 4 man tubes are back in circulation. You have the option of either tube now.

Well I would say nothing will change with the ride. I myself find it an enjoyable ride but I hate how it beats you up. However despite every time I ride it saying I will never do so again I usually find myself lining up for it on most visits to the park. It's a SLC, they are rough, we just kind of have to live with it. Go ride Nemesis, then you will truely know what we are missing LOL

Looney Tunes River Ride vs. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
rappa replied to Swanny's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well Ive experienced first hand what Tusauds did with Charlie and the Choc factory at Alton Towers and IMO it sucked! So it would want to be a lot better than that effort or I would say stay with Looney Tunes. -
You know I'd rather see dreamworld board up a ride and take it off the map if it's going to be closed for a while than put up temporary fencing. It looks much better than making it blaringly obvious there is a closed attration here.

LOL not quite theming on the button. You use buttons like that for dispatch so that they can't be pressed accidently. As a contrast you will see E-stops have big open areas so that you can hit them without effort. I'd say the control panels were shipped over with the ride, all the US parks use these types of buttons. The light is used at night... do you usually see the lights turned on during the day around the park??

The only strange thing at MW is that Scooby does not have it's own uniform, it has the generic pants and coloured shirt Ops uniform... I've always found that really weird!

What is with Batwing's Themeing? - You decide
rappa replied to Coaster Boy 6's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's funny you know because I thought it was pretty on par with The Claw and Wipeout. I mean the claw has coloured cement and an old recycled car as theming... Batwing has coloured cement and recycled vehicles for theming. Difference is these are actually REAL, WORKING film props. I think the big problem here is Claw and WO are high by Dreamworlds standards and BW is low by movie world standards. So people are getting a warped perception here. Doctor Doom is themed no better than BW, only difference is DD has a que building. At the end of the day if BW was at Dreamworld I'm sure everyone would be saying how well it was done... -
Let me tell you WnW is PACKED! Every day I can't believe how many people are piling into the park. I think another factor is probably that EVERYONE knows about WnW so for many it's a no brainer. I will probably take a while for the greater Australian population at large to get the picture that WWW is a waterpark on its own to go visit as opossed to something new at Dreamworld. Also I heard that the ride attendants were having a lot of trouble keeping hold of the large 4 person rafts on tornado at the top of the slide. That may be why they are trialling the 2 person rafts.

I mean at the end of the day you are always going to be able to do better. I could write pages on how the theming of WWF, Scooby and certainly Superman could all be improved but you have to give the park the point that they do damn well with the money and visitation they have to work with. It's not like we are talking a Universal or Disney US park here with money coming out of their ears. That drawing you posted looks damn good, I urge you to send any similar concepts you have in the future to WVTP because they DO listen. But the ride IS nicely presented, it may not reek of theming but it looks nice, does not detract from the park and is a long way in front of what could have been simply done with the ride. As for the smoke, Tom is right, water vapour is much cheaper and more maintenance free than using fog machines. You would need to use chilled CO2 fog for the effect you want here and that stuff is expensive. Trust me, I have 8 machines to do that at work and we use 10s of thousands of dollars a year in fluid to run them. Plus you can't attach anything to the cars themselves as they would interfear with the ride system. Also this ride is outdoors, fog machines aint waterproof so you can't install them out in the elements. I don't believe the water is being heated, it's simply under pressure, and with the small amount of water actually being used, I doubt you are getting covered in 'filth' stagnent water at Superman.

What is with Batwing's Themeing? - You decide
rappa replied to Coaster Boy 6's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I voted yes because I honestly think they have done damn well with the ride. I'll be honest I don't think that a spaceshot is the type of ride I would like to see at movie world, its too off the shelf flat ride and doesn't lend itself to being themed as a major attraction very well. That being the case what they have done with it is pretty damn nice, and there isn't much more you could really ask of them. The only exception I would say is if they had made this an semi-enclosed attraction with and indoor launch and all that jazz but I don't think that was what the park was going for here. So it is what it is, it's a spaceshot and with that in mind I think the ride has been presented extremely well, the other touches like the audio and smoke effects are nice too. So yes, whilst I think something like superman has failed to reach the bar on theming levels, I think they have done a nice job on Batwing. -
Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride

As part of the theming there is an audio track that runs at the start of the right with motor noises and a countdown and stuff, that was probably what you could hear. It does well to add to the experience/anticipation as well as covering the actual air/mechanical sounds of the ride itself. -

Well the fencing and loose articles storage wasn't complete yesterday but I'm guessing by now it is. From what I know of it will just be like all other space shots out there, buckets in front of the seats to leave your crap on. The ride should be pretty efficient, it will likely operate with a crew of 3 and maybe 2 when not busy, it took about 20-30secs between dispatches yesterday. It's certainly a ride that is waaaaay better to ride than you would think from simply watching it, so no one get dissapointed just yet. -
Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Okay so I will state firstly that the ride is STILL NOT completed and NOT yet open to the public. There is still work to be done on the fencing around the ride itself and the paths that lead up to and away from it. Other than that the ride is complete and fully operational. I firstly wanted to address the 'expert inside info' provided by a few posters. As I have always said it is a SIXTEEN person gondola (4x4) and the ride model is a SPACE SHOT, not a combo tower. I rode the ride this morning a bit over a dozen times (that was enough for me, 4 or 5 rides non stop on a space shot starts to take its toll on your insides). Having been on at least half a dozen of these over the world I would have to say this is probably my second favourite, coming in second the the Stratosphere. The strat model has its location but mostly its an older design where by the cables only run half way up the tower so you get a floating sensation when you go above the top pulleys and then slam back down, quite cool. Batwing however has one of the best 'kicks' to its launch of any of the others, much better certainly that the maliboomer and doctor doom. What makes Batwing great is you have so much close around it that the height factor is really added to. When you launch and you are looking down on Superman's tophat you really feel pretty damn high. I must say I am impressed with the 'presentation' (I wouldn't go as far as saying it's impressive theming) of the ride and it's exceed my expectations, or fears. The gondola has hard signage, not the usual cheap cable tied vinyl stuff, the concrete all around the ride has an awesome texture to it and the vehicles and other touches around the area really add to it. There are some special effects added to the ride to enhance the launch but I'm not going to tell you anything about them, wait and see. As I said there is still work to be done but the ride is expected to open for the Looney Tunes Christmas event later this week. All in all definately a plus for the park, and certainly enjoyable and re-ridable (maybe just not a dozen times in a row). -
Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride

The ride is currently testing. They will be doing filming on monday for the commercial and it still looks like public opening is slated for Boxing Day. -
I will say though, of all the slides I've ever wridden WnW's aqua racer is by far still the most fun. It doesn't matter how good the slide is, nothing beats the aqua racer with your mates. The tunnels at the start although really cool really kill the compedative start and until the timers are installed the fun of the race and false starts is just missing...

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Just as a side topic was anyone from here sitting in the MW car park a few nights back in a black car watching construction? I took a drive over after work and this car took off once I rocked up into the car park... I'm guessing it was a fellow nerd like us -
Just to update everyone after fast and furious construction the wheel structure is now complete. My guess is gondolas will start being attached tonight.
-
If peopel have been on a pro bowl and didn't like it then that's fine, you are free to have your opinion. But please don't go and say it would be painful and no fun if the only reference you have to that fact is falling out of a slide you were meant to ride within a raft... that's just silly.
-
I just wanted to add that I found the body slide version to be a pretty fun experience. Its very disorientating and just being tossed out the bottom of the bowl is kind of fun

Well in case anyone else hasn't noticed the ride is now going black. All the sections currently in the car park have been painted black and the section in place within the park has been getting the same treatment. Several major components of the air tank system are also now awaiting installation at the font of the carpark. -
Of course the CEO of the park opening the new attraction is going to say how great it is and how he doesn't feel he'll be competing with Wnw. When the CEO of WVTP says the same thing then I'll take it on board. But I don't see that happening.

It seems a very strange time of year for DW to do Annual Maint. on two of it's big rides (Wipeout and GD) at the same time. I mean attendance is just starting to build up for Christmas and whilst you have MW down the road going hell for leather to try and get a additional thrill ride open for the crowds dreamworld is closing them! Work on these rides would make much more sense back in the final quater or first quater of the financial years. Not much will have changed (if anything really) at Seaworld, but I'm glad to see you're going, definately the most pleasant park to spend a day at. The new Ski Show is worth a look. And certainly glad to see you're doing Outback, keeps my wages paid
