Only park I've really been impressed with from the outside was SFMM, you can't see anything from the actual freeway but once you're in the car park the sea of towering coasters is pretty impressive.

Just to add, was at the park yesterday and the fibreglass sections of the funnel are now stacked up outside just nect to black whole. Looks like a orange and blue colour scheme for this one.

Australian Outback Spectacular opens to the public
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The arena surface is actualy comprised of a sand specifically selected for it's unwillingness to give off dust. Add to that the fact that we keep the sand very damp (hard not to given we have a rain storm in the first 5 mins of the show!) and it really doesn't go anywhere. If we had a nice loose sandy floor it would probably prove an issue once we fly a helicopter out into the arena -
To make it easy I'll do the nerdy thing and wear my Total Thrills shirt from the Wonderland meet

I thought some photos used to exist on here, you have anything Richard? I will say I am very sad that this ride never got restored to it's former glory that was the final show scene. I feel that this is probably the only piece of the park that lets MW down.

I'd say it's a S&S space shot for sure. Won't say what I've heard or from where but you aren't the first person I've heard this from livean. I recon I have the 'perfect' location for it too

First of all, hi livean_letlive, always nice to see another WVTP employee on the boards. You should get multi hire over at our joint, that's a real change of scenery. To answer Richard's question the policy is really strict and they will stop most people for just about anything. Having said that if you wanted to ride with say, a mobile phone, car keys, $10, sun glasses and an ID on your person I would be 100% certain that you should do it. I think for the most part the theming is pretty well done, I will agree that the station and que needs work and there are some small touches that need fixing on the ride itself. These are things like hiding the speaker cabinets and trying to reduce the light leak, I would also like to see the 'superman' projection replaced with a bit better gobo. I don't think we'll ever see the cieling lowered as none of the rides at MW are like this, it's just way too big a job for the budgets we need to work with in Oz. I'll think you'll find that many of these things are simply the result of trying to get the ride finished for all of you to ride it for the holidays and things may well be improved in the future. You'll find this with a lot of theme park attractions, I'm sure we will see our show grow and evolve many months after it opens as well. Of course this is all just my personal opinion and nothing official. First of all, hi livean_letlive, always nice to see another WVTP employee on the boards. Well not that many people lived in Sydney but a fair few still showed up to the last meet at Wonderland. I think numbers might pick up in a week or so when it's getting closer. Also given I'm sure Joz, Richard, Rabid and myself will be there I'm pretty sure more than 5 people will make it.

Just to let you all know if you are interested in getting a real look on WVTPs latest attraction, Sunrise will be broadcasting from Outback Spectacular this friday morning. My bad it is actualy The Today Show (ch9) that is at AOS tomorrow.
-
I'll be there for sure... well I hope, I may be working Sats by then but I'll do my best even if I only come in the morning. What I sugest is to continue the meet over to WnW after MW closes for the day, being Dive In Movie season the park should be open till about 9 and it's half price entry.

A couple of us are trying to cook something cool/fun up... ...details to follow soon

I hope you're not trying to suggest my opinion is biased because it has been 'bought' because that is certainly not the case. I understand how much it does look like they are trying to compete with Dreamworld (and I'm sure in years to come we will see some intense competition between the two parks) however what those of us that know (as we have been told by the company) are saying is the reason really is one of needed expansion. Yes the thing has been rushed, I 100% agree with you on that point. I think we will see landscaping to come. They have painted the ride though, I can tell you that much. For some reason WVTP always seem to set unrealistic goals for opening dates. Superman was rushed to be finished, and now it's having frequent breakdowns and some of the elements inside still remain to be finished (like the station doors). Likewise these slides had to have their opening date pushed back a couple of times and it was still a mad scramble to get the open by this weekend. You will also see the same thing with Outback Spectacular, although we should be well and truely finished by opening, we are currently still a construction site and were meant to be completed a while ago.

Adam do you have a reading comprehension problem? I explained the reasoning for building the slides and you still say it's "merely there to compete with... dreamworld." NO IT'S NOT! WE TOLD YOU THE REASON, AS HARD AS IT MAY BE TO BELIEVE, THAT IS THE REASON! I'm not saying you have to think it's great but there really is nothing to complain about, it's adding some thrill slides to the park, which is what they wanted to do, so it's kind of achieved it's objective. It's not like they said they were going to build a highly themed, one of a kind attraction. They said they were going to put in a new slide tower with thrill slides. That's kind of what they've done. Since when has WnW ever said it's a 'themed water park'? Last time I checked the vast majority of it (and most water parks) is some towers with fibreglass hanging off the sides. They may build a themed attraction like they did with terror canyon and buccaneer bay and when they do, they do it well IMO. But they also just have regular slides for the sake of having them (eg mammoth falls, speed coaster, super 8, etc, etc. In this case they announced they were building a thrill slide area and that's what they are doing. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, but I am saying your argument is somewhat invalid. This attraction is going to: -improve capacity -increase attendance -increase the parks ride line up -cater to the thrill market I'd say those reasons are pretty worthwhile and right for the park. I seem to remember everyone screaming when DW went and built a themed kids attraction over a teen thriller ride when they opened Wiggles World. Now WnW has done the opposite and you all whinge again. I think maybe everyone just likes to winge.

Okay here we go... The reason that the entire Extreme H2O zone is being built is because WnW has simply reached a point where it can no longer handle the attendance numbers it is getting. The park had reached capacity. WVTP determined a major expansion of the park was needed to ensure the parks future because of the previously mentioned problem with capacity. The closing of the Brazil park was more a case of good timing. The park offered the kind of slides WVTP were after at an attractive price. The entire tower has been repainted and all the slides refurbed. You wouldn't even know they are second hand unless you were told. Say what you want about the colours but I can tell you Mach 5 has a VERY IMPRESSIVE appearance both from within the park and the freeway. It was actualy a very smart move to put the new slides 'out the back' as it gives the park enormous depth and it really does look huge now when standing out the front of the park. IMO these slides are exactly what WnW needs, body slides. Most of the rides at the park now are tube based and require an even number of people to ride. This means two things; Firstly you don't actualy get that wet which really anoys me on a hot day, with a body slide you are IN the water and its cools you off a lot more IMO. Secondly if you're there with your family and only you wants to ride or you have an odd number in your group you're kind of stuffed. This who area when complete will be a great addition to the park, if you don't like it, pretend it's not there, don't ride and take advantage of the shorter waits it will provide for the existing rides. Why complain about ANY addition to a park?? I really don't understand. Oh and whilst you're all off bagging out WnW for just trying to compete with DW think about this. WnW created the water park market up there, all DW are doing is cashing in on that and hoping to draw some of the market share away from WnW, who is 'just trying to compete' with who here? Can't wait to go try out the new slides next weekend myself...

I think the photo is actually exposed like that to give the Superman writing the flared out look, but then again that could just be me.

Given the dude from Intamin can be seen standing there in the video I really don't think Knott's just did it! Another piece of brilliance from Slick

To bring up something that came up in conversation the other night. I do wonder just how much impact the water park will have. I do worry for Dreamworld that the public may still see it as the 'waterslide bit' at Dreamworld as opossed to the 5th Major Gate on the Gold Coast. I am excited to see what this new attraction brings to the table but I fear for it that WnW will emerge the true number one player from the battle.

Not gonna help you right now but when I get back from Sydney I'd be happy to go over to the park and take a bunch of photos for you. I believe there are issues with putting photos of the parks up on the site at present...

See my post in the other thread about construction progress. And for christ sake Slick KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! Stop telling us what 'you think,' 'have seen' and 'you hear' unless you have some facts then just keep quiet. I see these slides every day and I can tell you that construction isn't 'behind.' Unless you have the construction schedule that states when each piece will be completed you are in no position to judge how progress is. I can tell you that the WVTP construction crews keep a tight ship, if it's meant to be finished on the 21st, it will be. Can't WAIT to finaly meet you next week
-
Well I'm right next to this thing when I go to work every day. I can tell you I've never seen construction go this fast on anything! The rate that the towers are rushing to completion is really insane, a few days back the black hole slides weren't even started, by now they are probably a good 1/3 done. The Mach 5 tower is essentially complete, just finishing touches happening now, geeze even the entire staircase went on in about 4 hours. There are pieces of the black hole stored all over the studios and they are being brought over at a rapid pace. Not sure if both towers will open together as the site says that 7 slides will open but only Mach 5 so this kind of contradicts itself. I will say though that if black hole doesn't open on the 21st, it won't be far after. What I am interested to see is how they get the landscaping in so quick as the site at this point is really just dirt out the back of WnW.

Geeze get over the Shirt Lifter comment... let me tell you I have several gay friends and not a single one of them have ever been offended by me or someone else calling them a shirt lifter, queen, homo or raging poof. Everyone generally has a sense of humour about themselves you know, people who don't are very sad indeed.

Hi All Just a quick shout to let you all know I will soon be joining the ranks of fellow WVTP employees on the board. I have taken the job of Senior Lighting Tech on the soon to be opened Australian Outback Spectacular attraction located next to Movie World. This of course means I am moving up to the Gold Coast from Sydney at the start of the New Year, really excited both about the move and the new job so stay tuned for news about the show.
-
I can also tell you that they are well underway with recruiting staff for the show and rehearsals are set to begin shortly after Christmas. With any luck I will get to have a look inside the attraction on Wednesday and will let you all know how things are going if I do.

Just on the wave pool thing... I doubt they are going to go for the older technology "WnW Style" wave pool. If they are trying to kick but I am guessing they will go to the newer technology which involves extremely large water movement as opossed to a moving wall as is used at WnW. Basically massive tanks behind the back of the pool fill with water and once full, dump their load into the bottom of the pool through a small opening. This sudden surge of water is what creates the wave and results in the large 'surfable' type waves you would see at Typhoon Lagoon or at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas. Now I'm no expert but that kind of system can't be cheap I'm sure.

The most fantastic ride I found when in Orlando last month was the new slide at WnW called "Disco H2O." Go and check it out but it was too fantastic for words. No matter what you've seen or read you are just not prepared for what you find in the main 'room' of the slide. It's pretty amusing that all that is going on in there.
