Mermaid Lagoon at Tokyo DisneySea is stunning. This is fine. -
The New Atlantis - Construction Updates

Yeah, nah - definitely taken on-site. But also, IDGAF, no need for a witch-hunt fellas - everyone's favourite exec doesn't work here anymore so need to dob anyone in and ruin careers just to curry favour with management. 😉 -
Most Iconic Australian Theme Park Attraction
Slick replied to HyprCoastr19's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think only a few years in after opening. Turns out spraying the base of a steel structure with water everyday had some negative effects. Who knew! -
Which former attraction do you miss the least?

They probably should've just kept them to the left of The Claw where they resided for over a decade. The move was literally to push it into people's faces more. -

I reacted with a fountain because I felt it was fitting. 😎 What @Gazza said. Also, controversial, but Reef Diver / Enterprise - one of two Dreamworld rides i've never been on and glad it's gone. Vomit-worthy ride. -

You're right - putting a phoned-in upcharge that's cheap and nasty right at the front of the park int it's centrepiece is fully sick. -

The coin-operated boats in the fountain at Main Street, Dreamworld. Probably the most contemptuous crap i've ever seen. It'd be like letting someone setup a zip-line operation off Cinderella's Castle. -
Not to derail the conversation too much, however... ...If it's owned by News Corporation it's propaganda and not news.

New colour scheme really looks right at home with the WhiteWater entrance building in the foreground. Love it.

I think once upon a time that all of our parks were filled with real, genuine Australian can-do spirit and put passion and pride into doing big ideas on shoe-string budgets (and showing up the big players in the process.) There's that story of Lassiter's Mine costing 3 million and Disney Imagineering folks saying it would've costed 20 million. There's another similar story about Gum Tree Gully at Dreamworld. And then I think about rides like Bermuda Triangle and how cool the Pepper's Ghost effect was even as an adult and how so much of that ride would still hold up today. Same goes for Police Academy. Genuinely funny, really good stunts, brass-ring winning show. Same goes for Steam Trains. Super unique and a part of Australian history. Same goes for the Batman Ride - beautiful themed set pieces, awesome embark/disembark procedure into the simulator pods, totally mind-blowing stuff for kids. Really unique ideas executed well that are over-achievers in their own right. What happened? I think OH&S plays a part in some ways for sure, but as @joz eloquently painted the picture above, somehow all of our parks got into this epic death of creativity through a thousand cuts and two decades on it shows. Every park has big, obvious SBNO crap somewhere. Facades that have no place in the "themed land" they exist in. Unkempt gardens. Lacklustre theming. Just yikes all round. Take me back to an era where creatives created, not execs.- 72 replies

Which former attraction do you miss the most?

There's a classic rule of mine which I reckon applies here - "if you replace something, what replaces it should be better." For example - i've got some great nostalgic memories of the Gremlin's Ride, but Scooby kicks ass, weird projection screens withstanding (new lighting in the high zone more than makes up for it, IMO). I think it's predominantly why we're a generation who clings to nostalgia so much - so much of the stuff we had in our childhoods (Bermuda Triangle for example) was just better in every way than what's there today (Storm, lol.) So with that in mind, here's what stands out, based on that rule above. Dreamworld - Wipeout - saved the park, one of the best theming executions for a flat ride i've ever seen, period. The park is worse without it. - Steam Trains & Paddle-wheeler - landmark institutions that form the foundation of the brand. Movie World - Looney Tunes River Ride - what replaced it is 1/10th the attraction it was and the park is poorer without it (or a good kid's zone, for that matter) - Police Academy - everyone, and I mean everyone, will remember the plant in the hawaiian shirt for the rest of their lives, but no one will remember what car did sick burn-outs at Stunt Driver. Sea World - Skylink - Kinetic. Freaking. Energy. And what a vantage point to see the whole park. Another tentpole ride that the park is lesser without. - Bermuda Triangle - Doesn't need explaining. Wet 'n' Wild - Mach 5 Plunge Slides - as an adult, still mental they existed.- 72 replies

Richard's article from 2018 sums up pretty well why a name change wouldn't work.

Proposed Big Dipper Luna Park Sydney Circa 1984
Slick replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Wow, I had no idea. Sick find there @Jobe - there's a real Great American Scream Machine vibe to that proposal. There's also some tiny hints of what would eventually become the Big Dipper turned Cyclone/Sidewinder/??? that we all know today. -
It looks like an upside down Balter Can, and i'm totally onboard with that. 🍻

I've hid some posts - just a reminder to observe the community guidelines and try to respect each other on what's a somewhat sensitive topic.

Am I missing something here? The two rides going are Flowrider and Big Red Car - they're being removed because they're "duplicates" of other rides, but you can't surf a wave in the wave pool like Flowrider and Big Red Car is Dreamworld's only traditional dark ride. ...And this is somehow a win?

They have two Flowriders/Big Red Cars?

White Water World Slide Repaints 2019 - 2020
Slick replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I definitely agree with you there that i'd be surprised if it happens now given the recent changes and current climate, as unfortunate as it is. In the case of the proposed lazy river and Fully 6 - you can easily look at it from the lens of what matters more - driving gate or handling capacity, and as you mentioned, certainly in Dreamworld's predicament post 2016 their biggest challenge is profitability, which goes hand in hand with driving gate. And you don't get there by building something that's virtually 1:1 to what the competitors have.
