Why are there no private rollercoasters?
strop replied to Linus1995's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well Neverland Ranch is the most prominent example of an eccentric millionaire building their own rides, not sure if there was a rollercoaster though. The Sultan of Brunei built his own theme park with coasters, but he opened it to the public. Think it's been sold off now though... -
What've you heard, DJ Rappa?

^ If they are with outpulse, then they are even less likely to make a purchase.

While this topic is active again, did you know that the Orphan Rocker has been immortalised with its own Aussie hip hop song, by Blue Mountain's artist Urthboy? Doesn't tell us anything we didn't know and only mentions it a few times, including the old rumour about the test dummy, but it is named after it... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nN4b41yjZsI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

^ Perhaps Gary86 was thinking of an airport security checkpoint type thing (where the conveyor belt takes your luggage through an X-ray machine) as found in most airports, or in some international train stations...

Thanks for identifying all the slides Gazza. The park looks fairly well though out, and if all of the attractions except for the 'future' duelling master blasters are constructed as part of Stage 1, then it will have a pretty decent lineup for what is essentially a regional water park. It also appears that the majority of slides are located on the outskirts of the park, adjacent to the roads rather than the neighbours, so that should help minimise complaints a little. I'll keep an eye out for any additional information as it arises.

Another article has been published, this time including an artist's impression of the development's layout. This is from The Hervey Bay Independent, January 3: The article can be found online here. The online version did not include the full impression so I scanned it from the paper (2 other photos included were slides from elsewhere): I haven't been able to find too much else at this stage, but an earlier image shows a less detailed layout superimposed onto a satellite image of the land, incase you were wondering how it was orientated in relation to the neighbouring infrastructure and the foreshore...

^ If my local RSL can give me a hard plastic, colour photo, membership card for my $6.60 annual membership fee, then I don't think it is too much too ask for a $150 'Passport'

I don't understand why they didn't keep the Gold VIP Pass at that sort of level to begin with. Those of us that purchased it in the first year did so because we were willing to pay extra for some additional benefits only to have it's benefit (and price) reduced to make it only marginally better than the standard VIP Pass. I am still in favour of phasing out the dirt cheap passes, but just wonder why they diluted the Gold VIP to begin with when it was already established as a premium product? I am also all for the passes being 12 months from the time of purchase, but I would suggest that they work like a subscription in that if you purchase one it adds 12 months to your current pass rather than rendering it null and void. I would be interested in purchasing a Discovery Pass, but only 6 months in don't feel like I would be getting value and would in fact be cutting my time short. Hopefully the deal remains around until the Gold passes expire, because it often feels like early adopters and longer time supporters end up worse off. Having said all that it does sound like a good deal.

^ My thoughts exactly AlexB. Once they are up and running they will be able to test the waters with the special events first, and if successful and they become commonplace, then a request for an extension of operating hours would need to be seriously considered by the council. Does anyone have an idea of what the average noise levels of typical slides "at the operational stage" are? And, does that need to take into account potential screams from kids?

Just thought I would update the thread with some new articles from this week... This one from the Fraser Coast Chronicle on Wednesday (full article here): And this one on Thursday (find it here): So, this project has moved one step closer to fruition. I am hopeful that the conditions imposed will not deter the developers and Hervey Bay gets the quality tourist attraction it so desperately needs. None of the conditions above (I haven't had a chance to search for the full list of conditions yet) sound too limiting, although 10am-5pm operating hours would be a shame. Hopefully they can stretch them out in Summer once they are up and running.

Because being next to a major tourist attraction in a region experiencing high tourism numbers, development and growth has always had devastating effects on real estate prices. "My house has been worthless, since they built Disneyland next door" said no one, ever.

This is the article containing the negative responses I mentioned above: The full article is at http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/water-park-creates-splash/1638774/ A number of the reader comments are far more supportive.

Not too mention that Whale Watching is seasonal, and while Fraser Island is a drawcard for a lot of people, the lack of surf on our beaches mean there isn't a lot to offer to families with older kids.

This article appeared in today's Hervey Bay Independent Newspaper... The full article can be found online here: http://theindy.com.a...revive-tourism/ As a local I will endeavour to bring any updates as they come to hand. The backlash from the NIMBY lot as well as local Indigenous elders has already started, but with a council keen to boost local tourism this could go ahead. The 1 year deadline seems a little ambitious though. For the record the proposed site is an abandoned caravan park so claims of cultural significance or wildlife preservation that have been made this morning are nonsense. Fingers crossed common sense prevails as the area badly needs an attraction like this.

I agree 100% with this point. We watch each ride with our Son first and he decides whether he thinks it's too scary or not. If he saw a cycle with people being flipped about and screaming I would probably not be able to convince him to go on it, even if he'd also seen the gentle cycle. That being said, he is only 4 and probably a few years off riding this one regardless. Is there any indication of what the restrictions are for this ride yet? And will they be different for the two different cycles?

I had a similar experience at my local cinema when I went to see The Avengers in 3D. At the start of the film the background seemed sharper than the foreground and looking around the theatre noticed other people were experiencing difficulties (taking glasses on and off, looking perplexed at one another). After a short while other patrons went outside and notified a staff member and a 'swipe effect' went across the screen and it became crystal clear 3D. So, it seems to me like it may have been a projection issue in your case too, however if no one notified them it wasn't corrected.

Expansions start at Jamberoo Action Park
strop replied to JackBenjaminBrissenden's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Justed wanted to say, thanks Jamberoo Fan for all the updates and information. Even though it looks like you're talking to yourself in this thread, I have been reading with much interest and can't wait to see the finished additions. Thanks again! -
Thanks for the update Reggie, that is certainly great news!

Flat rides generally refer to all other (carnival type) rides that are not roller coasters. For example, The Claw, swinging chairs, Matterhorns, etc are all considered to be flat rides. For a full list of rides that come under this description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_rides

Possible New Coaster for Luna Park Melbourne?
strop replied to alex_1's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Probably not the right place for it, but found this while searching youtube for Luna Park commercials. There are a few Sydney ones online, but didn't spot any Melbourne ones. I did find this nice video of the park from 1975 though... Reason for Edit: Can't seem to get the embedding feature to work, tips anyone? -
I remember Seaworld having a hovercraft in the 80's. It used to do tours of the Broadwater. The Clive Palmer project just featured on the local news. Had animations of the proposed hotel as well as the hovercraft. Hopefully it will be posted online. He did say he has given a 6 month deadline for public opinion and if it isn't wanted He'll build it somewhere else. Hopefully the naysayers don't get it shelved.

The Viking's Revenge and Bermuda (and before that Lassiter's Lost Mine) operated side by side for years and whilst only slightly different, were both very popular in their own way. It will be exactly the same with the new ride.

^ Thanks Richard. The teaser photo for the water coaster says coming 2013, so may be later than that. But I agree, it should round out the parks rides quite nicely...
