  1. ^ Definitely.... But we could guess that a nice big shed would be a good building to house what ever is in the buildings behind the LW area of the park, which would allow for that area to then be used for a "New Land" to be built within the park. And did you know that the parks are using satellites to spy on our every move.....need more alfoil.
  2. Where the big pile of dirt is on the front of the carpark, at least according to the site plans on the web.....
  3. I know what the park is building next.....A SHED!! That large pile of dirt is to be the location of a new shed for the park.....but it has been now held up until usage approval is granted, if I read it right anyway. Now the only question is......what is the shed for????
  4. Just an update from the park... The tent that housed the pirate show is now gone, and cars are back in that area for the moment. There are a couple of shipping containers on site also, but this could just be the pirate stuff. Also the truck for the Honda "Asmio" ( or how ever it is spelled) is now in that car park area. I did notice that there have been some ground works started just towards the back of the park, perhaps to relocate the maintenance shed on the edge of the car park before work starts, or for the start of a new staff car park behind the tiger island pens?? As always, only time will tell. EDIT : After looking over the plans in the council application, I noticed that it looks as if the splash pool for the mammoth slides seems to be in the same area as the Gravatron is now. If that is correct, then it looks like that end of the park might be in for a couple of changes in the next few years. Am heading back to the park next weekend so will have a look around and will try to see if I can pick out any marking pegs for the construction at all.
  5. After reading the article in today's paper, it sounds like the same one that was printed in the Sunshine Coast Daily. Would be nice to know what company will be suplying the rides for the park....
  6. Well to start with, nice to see that some people are still dreaming about what the parks of this fair country might be able to put in, only if they would wake up and think of it themselves.... After reading all 12 pages of this thread, if I misquote or repeat someone, I apologise now in advance...there is a lot to remember. As far as the new attraction to replace the PA attraction, this is something I have known about for a while, was just not able to tell anyone, so glad that it is now out of the bag. Moving on to some of the ideas about where to build new rides within the park. I would almost for sure rule out the lake/swamp area at the front of the park. I know that this area is used by the studios as a filming backdrop, and if there are those who have ever noticed it, sometimes there is a large blue/green screen that is brought in on cranes for night time filming in that area. Before the whole park was owned by Village Roadshow, I would have said that there is no chance of the studio area being used in anyway for theme park rides. Now, your guess is as good as mine. As far as putting rides in the "river" area on the top of the Google maps you guys have posted, would rule this one out straight away. The park got into some major trouble with the Gold Coast City Council a couple of years ago about some work that they did to the creek, and if you search the GCCC web site you might still be able to find the minutes of that meeting. If my memory is correct, and over the length of time in question it is probably not, it was something to do with the altering of a natural watercourse...but as I said, just search the GCCC site....it should still be there. As far as the idea of using the area behind the superman coaster and up to the Wild West area, I will have to be careful as to how I word this. I have heard 'rumors' that this is going to be the next area of expansion for the park, and it does make perfect sense to me. The stage area, to my knowledge, is being used for a show a day if that, and would make a great area to access the land behind the Scooby Doo building. There is a nice section of land there that is home to only a staff canteen ( if they have not changed it from my last visit), and I believe this building to be a demountable, one that can be removed whole with little trouble and cost, and relocated to another area of the park. But the best thing about this suggestion (from Sonic I believe) is that it is not cutting any major roads to the studios or any of the paths used by park staff for parades etc. So therefor, it is the most likely to be used for future expansion, at least in this old farts mind anyway...hehe. While I would love to say that we can see a coaster there, the only two ways I can do that is to see the stage building going bye bye to allow for the room, or if the coaster is a compact unit. And after just looking at the Maurer Sohne X Car concept, I think that one of those launched coasters would fit in that area and still allow for a couple of nice flat rides in there, as well as maybe a nice new dark ride in the stage building itself (something from Sally perhaps?). Using this parcel of land will also allow for connection to the Wild West, LW and Superman areas of the park, given that the last one would be a little walk past LW to get there.... Well that is my rant for the moment, as always in the theme park industry.....Only Time Will Tell.
  7. Hope to get to the park over the weekend, depending on weather, so will let you know if there has been any movement around the "old" location of Stingray. As far as the mega/giga rumors...I know that the park has looked into these rides before, but if I had to put my money on a new coaster for the park, would look at something launched, but it would be either an Australian or Southern Hemisphere first. Would be looking at a ride with a compact footprint rather than one that takes up too much room. And I just can't see DW getting another permit to build a ride as high as a mega/giga coaster again. They had to jump through a lot of loops just to get the permit for Cyclone and it is only 35 or so meters tall. I still remember the construction being held up on that coaster just for that permit, or at least that is what the park was telling us at the time. UPDATE: Stingray is in and operating, but it no longer has the octopus top on it. Looks like all the main supports have been either replaced or just repainted. The plywood boards have also been replaced, as you can see they are new from the underneath during the ride operation. The other interesting thing I did notice is a lot of large earth moving machines are in a fenced off area behind the pirates tent towards the road. We all know that the new water park section is starting soon, but could this gear be for the rumored new kids attractions coming to DW....as always, only time will tell.
  8. Nice to see my favorite topic has come back again. Would like to address the "Motor Coaster" first. Did DW hype up the advertising of this coaster...pretty safe to say that is true. But having said that, as a "FAMILY" based coaster, it does what is needed to fulfill the requirements of this area quite well. Now that's over with, onto the fun part. If you are going to built a new "Hyper" coaster, you are going to need one important thing....a nice size footprint to fit the ride into. We can now rule out the old Thunderbolt area as we know that is for the next stage of WWW to use. So the question remains, where to put the ride. I think that the park should but in a couple of new flat rides, to replace the old fav's around the Ocean Parade area of the park. With the funds that could be spent on a single new attraction, the park could purchase a couple of nice flat's and update the theming within the Ocean Parade area to go along with the new expansion of the water park, as the parks internal entry to that area is from Ocean Parade. Maybe a couple of up charge attractions from S&S, or some of the other flat rides that do not come to mind at the moment. Should a coaster be in the works, I would like to think it would be the repair of the mine ride, or at worst a replacement for that ride. As far as area of the park for a new major attraction, you would have to assume that it would be placed behind the log ride area of the park, which has it's own pro's and con's. Pro's.....The ride would make for a nice entry attraction for the parks rumored entry to the Comera City Walk area of the park, when ever that happens. Con's.....If you come in from the current entry, how would the park sell a ride that is tucked away from the rest of the park...apart from large signs as soon as you enter the park grounds, unless the ride was as tall as the tower is, or almost as tall. While I, like the rest of you, dream of walking into DW to ride Australia's first B&M coaster, I just can't see it happening any time soon, or without some of the other attractions being relocated within the park. Waiting gladly to be proved wrong.
  9. WOW, you go into serious work mode for a couple of months, and then you come back to find all this stuff happening (truth be told, was a 50/50 splitt between work and World of Warcraft...hehe) Now that I have kicked one of the above distractions, no I am still working, I have come back to the news I was waiting for...sort of. I was told about Dreamworld having some "Loose expainsion plans" for WWW when they first built the park that was a 4 stage process. I am guessing we would be calling this latest one stage 3 due to the little rippers being put in, but now seeing the plans, am starting to wonder where the next part would be placed. The only way it could expand as I see it is to go into the current dreamworld land area, and for the park to either retire or relocate the vortex, dogems, and the arcade areas. This is something I am sure will never happen, but it seems to be the only area that they would have left to expand. But this is just my ramblings at the mome INFORMATION FOUND Now onto something that I have just noticed in the forms to the GCC. In the first PDF file, on page 11 there is an application for the park to build structures over the 7.5m height, but rather than just for this construction, the park has asked for that permit to be a 10y agreement. Now unless the park is planing more attractions within this area in the upcoming years over that height, why would they be asking for a permit to last so long. Have just read down the form further and it states that the rides will be no higher than 24.5m tall. And it also states that not all rides will open with the expansion, so I guess I have answered my own questions about future expansions there...looks to be inside the current area, but I am still reading the 64 page document so will be right back.
  10. As I am currently finding out, Plc's can be tricky things indeed. I can see why the park would have the programing to run two trains rather than one. With two trains programmed, the computer only needs to know that the second train is in the loading bay, to run the one train without too much trouble. The easiest way to do it is to program the computer to understand that when sensors are triggered in the loading bay, one train is in play, when they are not triggered, two train operation is required. This would be the main reason that the ride is set this way and I would not be surprised if it is done that way for all rides, as you only require two extra sensors and a few extra lines of programming.
  11. Well those of us who have visited the park after the opening of WWW might have noticed the change on the Dreamworld maps that would have given a hint about the future of the BL area. I have not noticed it on a park map for Dreamworld after they opened the new water park. So as far as the "I work for Management" angle goes....find another cause your done.
  12. OHH....Nice pictures indeed. Can't wait to get the tax return back and spend some on new platinum passes for the family. Either that or save the cash for next years USA trip. Hmmm tough choice...
  13. Can I bring everyone's attention to one line of fine print on the Dreamworld Ticket page in regards to the Platinum Pass... "Valid for 12 months from the date of issue." Now I hope that this is a simple misprint, but will be contacting the park today to confirm it....will let you all know. EDIT: In one section it comes up as 12month valid, but in another section of the site, it does say 24month valid....putting this down to an oversite by the park. Now just to figure out if I get one now, or save the money for our USA trip next year
  14. Have been to the parks on days when all three rides are running two trains. The last time was on the opening of the Batman ride. Sadly have not had the chance to go to the park lately, but hope to fix that soon.
  15. Might be getting around to new DW passes sometime in the next two to three weeks, so now that work has calmed down a bit and I have my weekends back, new pics coming.
  16. The rumor mill is running overboard with what will happen at the park this year. If you put stock in the rumors, then PA will be closed and the land used for a new family attraction....OR, the stage will be revamped for a weekly show, with Australian Idol being mentioned alot. The third of the most common rumors is that the park will be investing in two new rides, with one to be a family attraction and the other to be a thrill ride of the Flat ride style..... Please remember these are all only RUMORS.....put what stock in them that you will.....
  17. In regards to the new mats, we had no trouble lifting them over the humps on the ride, maybe a style of riding thing?? As for how the ppl got out of the breakdown, there are sections at the bottom of each dip with Velcro that allows for ppl to access the ride, big enough to pull the entire raft out of. Hope that helps
  18. If I had to take a guess, I would say the stones help with the recapture of the water used on the slides. They would allow for run-off to be captured in the water pits seen through out the park....just a thought. And WnW Rocks, although the little kid was very upset, he did ride straight away and got off the ride smiling, and it was the second time it had happened in that spot within 10mins on that day. Surprised you did not get sun burnt with that blonde hair of yours....hehe....you were not the only one in the park that day. Nice pictures by the way, might post the pic I took of you taking the pictures of the ride brakedown, if I ever get them back from Kmart. Should also have some nice pics from within the rides. This was the one thing that surprised me the most about the park, that I was allowed to take a water proof camera on the ride in plane site of the ride ops, and not one of them said anything about it....strange.
  19. Time to add to this thread... Every time I went on the mine ride, the only problem I found was at the bottom of the lift hill, the jar that is felt when you start to climb the hill. My only thoughts about why the park may have closed a great head chopping coaster are the jarring at the bottom of the lift, or something to do with the restraints not holding ppls arms down and someone got hurt on the ride. If either of these happened the park would have to close the ride until investigations were performed and any faults would have to be fixed. Now taking into account that the Chair Lift has been closed, and now with the mine ride shut, could the park be just preparing for a "new" area of the park to be created? We know the rumors are flying around about a new coaster for next year and that we will be blown away by what it is, so maybe the park is planning to put the ride within the Gold Rush area? What ever the outcome, with DW spending up big on the kiddie areas and now the new water park, would it be too much to think that this is the year for new thrill attractions and the closures we are seeing is just part of that.....just a thought for you all on X-mas Eve.
  20. Should be an update done through the week....photo's taken today so just depends on how busy Rabid is this week.
  21. Steven Austin was very nice to all at the signing and stayed in the sun, signing for about 4hrs in total. Started at 10am through to 12...had a one hour lunch with some not so lucky kiddies, then back to signing from 1pm to 3pm.... Made my youngest sons day, not to mention this old wrestling fan very happy... P.S Was going to add photo, but did in fast reply and can't be bothered remembering everything I typed...lol
  22. Hey GoGoBoy, first of all ease up on Ian as he does not cover the Dreamworld Construction...I do. And if my work does not allow me to get down to the parks every weekend, or if I forget to charge batteries for the camera, then we miss a week, then that's life. As for the three weeks that you claim there was no updates, that is only because there was not a lot to update on, with rain and the car park taking most of the construction within the park, we allowed ourselves to take a week off. Rest easy though as there will be weekly updates from now on as far as the water park construction is concerned....I just have to sell my kids into slavery to pay for the fuel to get to the coast...
  23. The scaffolding is something that was brought in a few years ago under the Governments Workplace Health and Safety Act. It varies on the trade in question, but any work over 2.2 metres requires scaffolding be used, or a harness system is in place. Silly rule to the point that anyone standing on the second step of a 6ft fold out ladder is about 2.2m. Some times I think that all "polly's" should be made to work within an industry or a trade before they can make rules up about it. But back on topic, as Matt said, there are multipul building foundations poured in place and only a matter of time before we start to see vertical construction of either rides or buildings. And I would also recomend a drive by of Wet'n'Wild to anyone in the area.....I had no idea it was going to be THAT BIG!!
  24. Sorry Guys but not a tower..... From what we can see and due to it's location to the wave pool, I would guess it is a pump or motor shed for the Wave pool. Will let you all know more when it becomes available
  25. From now on, the updates from Dreamworld should be a weekly thing....with the odd update on the construction happening at Wet'n'Wild.....enjoy
