  2. Here is an article from Australian Leisure Management regarding Merimbula's Magic Mountain, a small park on the Sapphire Coast in southern NSW. This park is rarely mentioned on these pages but its great to see that the park is doing extremely well. With its new owners investing in new attractions, it proves that small parks like this can not only survive, but thrive when they are well run, offer good value and see modest investment year on year. I have myself have never ventured to Merimbula , but the area looks absolutely beautiful and looks fantastic for a family getaway. The park was visited most famously by Theme Park Review a few years ago, on their first trip to Australia. I think they described it as being one of farthest they had ever traveled to reach a credit!! The much-loved NSW South Coast attraction has been a staple summer holiday destination since the 1980s, attracting around 50,000 guests a year. Opened in 1983 with a waterslide and old Melbourne tram - fitted out as a cafe - the attraction's centrepiece for many years has been its toboggan ride and Diamond Python rollercoaster (recently renamed as the Sapphire Speedster). With other features including the 18-car grand prix dodgem cars, jumping castle and magic carpet slide, significant investments in the last five years have seen the addition of a Tree Climb Challenge in 2014, the Tube Rider in 2016 and a new maze with viewing tower in 2018. Imported from Italy, the Tube Rider is a secure and fun dry tube ride from artificial ski slope experts Neveplast. The winter season has seen the park's rollercoaster given a face lift and rebranded as the Sapphire Speedster, while Magic Mountain's eating facilities have been renovated and a new gift shop created. 2019 has seen Magic Mountain listed on TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice awards as being one of the top 10 amusement and waterparks in the South Pacific region - achieving this recognition for the sixth year in the past seven. Acquired by the Blyton Group in February 2018, the new owners have invested in the off-season improvement and, in the coming weeks, will be announcing the installation of a new ride for the 2019 summer season. Open every day during the recent school holidays, the attraction is now open most days of the week other than some Mondays and Tuesdays and will be operational every day over the peak summer period. During January it will offer extended trading hours with live entertainment, face painting and other activities. For the current season Magic Mountain is offering an $88 season pass, unlimited entry all season and offers a $6 per person discount for online purchases. It will be interesting to see what the new attraction for 2019 will be.

  3. It’s great to see Magic Mountain still running. It’s a quaint little park. Jobe I had to double take when you advised that the Blyton Group now own the park. The guy who owns that group was my the owner of the radio station I used to work for. Surprised to see him venture into the amusement business.

  5. The Video ran for barely a couple of minutes and was hosted by an Actor that I believe is the same Actor as the Miner you see in Lift 2 ("What y'all doin in here! (fires rifle), Damn it look what you made me do " etc..). It's also the same voice "y'all take care out there on the River" before you board.. He is standing in a street of a Ghost Town set (probably from WB's in Burbank). He tells you that you're about to enter a real Ghost town film set used in famous Western films - like the one he is standing in - and to take care because it's Haunted. He then turns and begins walking down the street and vanishes, suggesting he is a Ghost.. The Preshow video was not as bad as Lethal Weapon but still was pretty bad. It also didn't make sense with Crowd flow as People would always just line up at the doors either side and it was hard to corralle them in and shut the door behind them. Also People would often force the Automatic doors open and continually break them. The pre Video and entire ride never had anything to do with the Wild Wild West Will Smith film, thankfully so too because that flick was a stinker!

  6. Spider is nearing the end of its life. The main central hubs for the arms have been kept in good condition and it tells when you ride it. But I think the sea air is getting to it now. Ranger mechanically is not that complicated. But its the fact it is old. It has suffered some issues during its time. I see this ride retiring at the park and it will be scrapped. I didn't sell in my eyes for a reason. It's due to all the modifications it had. Tumble bug won't see a life beyond the park either. Dodgems havent had a change at all. Even the transformer that runs them is the same from the late 80's I think. Most of these rides have been in the park since the mid-'90s. So in a way, if they go its a good thing. They served their purpose.

  7. Thanks @themagician for the update. The leaves and gathered dirt has been like that for years now and that's a big gripe of mine, having worked that ride waaaaay back when it first opened. I hate seeing it like this and there is no excuse for it. In the olden days there were condition reports and maintenance requests that were reported by the Ride Supervisor and signed off by Maintenance looking after the Attraction. Every ride would be experienced at least once every day. Damaged and inoperative elements would be categorized (1, 2 or 3) based on how critical the problem and would be continually reported until fixed. The Department Manager would follow up any long standing issues to put pressure on, where necessary. Clearly none of this happens anymore😒

  10. I hope it’s a new family water slide for White Water World similar to the mammoth falls. Or I would love another roller coaster to keep their thrill ride game strong but probably over budget.
