  2. If I recall, Dreamworld has opened the animal area, and vintage cars, two traditionally off limits areas in previous night events. Perhaps this increased the previous capacity of the event to levels the carpark couldn't accommodate? That still requires Dreamworld to participate in the scheme. They didn't have to accept subsidised purchases from the government if they didn't want to. They knew what cheaper passes would do here, lets be honest. On your marks - get set - go! Do a deal with westfield to utilise overflow parking areas and operate a dedicated shuttle bus (or several) and give the shuttlebus a dedicated entry gate to encourage people to use the bus to skip the main gate queues?

  3. Agree with @Dom here. Movie World can have a capacity of 11,000 or so, but they don't have that many parking spaces... or do they?

  8. To be fair, the Motorway looks like this at the Movie World exit at 5pm on Fright Night event dates. I suppose Dreamworld's added difficulty is all the day guests leaving and all the night guests arriving are all trying to use the same roundabout (along with other usual traffic), whereas Movie World exits guests through two different lanes depending on departure direction. I think to a degree there is a certain element of responsibility to be taken by guests to get there early enough to allow for processing. I recently commented here about the security checks and Magic Mountain taking a while to get through and encouraged visitors to get there early to ensure plenty of time to get that done and I don't see this as any different... There's the added requirement of a covid checkin which I assume the park was verifying at the gate in some way too. By the sounds of things though, everyone choosing to get there right on opening didn't help, and sometimes, its the rush that you just can't recover from. Allowing early admission, even if that be through wristbands or some other method like a holding pen near Taipan might help. Using Carpark B's entrance? Surely they'd have contact details for booked tickets for this event - could it hurt to use a broadcast text message to ticketholders advising them to arrive early... perhaps even having.... gasp.... boarding groups? lol. ok too far but you get the drift. The park needs to communicate better about arriving early (and admitting them - one of the screenshots above says a ticketholder was asked to exit the park, when they were already letting others in - that's a shitty way to add to your already big queue), but the guests need to do their part and anticipate being there beforehand.

  9. I think the major problem here is that the Entry process was so poor. I think the car parking being full is a reality of an event like this and Dreamworld could have countered this in several different ways. The fact they knew they had 8500 people and didn't really do anything to try and improve the entry process is poor. In the interests of proactivity they could have done some of the following * Communicated ahead of the event to people attending that it will be busy and to seek other transport options * Allow people to come into the park earlier * Organised for adequete signage about where other parking can be found * Had a redemption station inside the gates so that they could speed up entry * Had entertainment outside of the park for the wait

  10. I think it's fine for people to be critical because fair criticism progresses the medium. It's why I get frustrated when people tell me to lower my expectation and accept what were given regarding New Atlantis because it diminishes the capability for criticism. I know that any criticism offered now wont change the final product but it can influence future developments. That's why I've made a point of praising particular aspects that I like within Steel Taipan. They're simple changes and additions that all developers should aim to focus on in the future. I'm not saying that they're ground breaking, nothing close, but comfort, flow, ease and experience should be at the forefront of any future projects. If we point out these things that we enjoy than it hopefully all operators will listen and we will get better products in the future. As enthusiasts its really easy to talk about what we don't like and that negativity tends to permeate a lot of online discussions regarding theme parks which really brings down the mood. There are an unfathomable amount of theme parks out there (not a comprehensive list) which means plenty to compare to and on a global scale what we see can be considered as poor, but our parks aren't on a global scale. Not yet, anyway. Discussing what we don't like AND what we like helps developers set their sights in the future, but if we just focus on just the bad then we spiral into a hate hole and they look at us as entitled whingy brats who cant be sated. Honestly we've had some great discussion and I think it gives operators a good indication of what to aim for in the future. In just the last two pages they can see that guest experience should have more focus for projects, wider pathways are good, people enjoy views of coasters they're about to ride but there should be more focus on themed elements and thematic integration to both the queue, ride, precinct and load.

  12. I wasn’t suggesting DW do something to fix the surrounding roads, because as you say it’s out of their control. I was more getting at the council/government need to do something again.

  13. 9,000 tickets Round up to 2,100 car park spaces 9000/2100 = 4.29 people per car. So their carpark only really works if there were 4-5 people per car. That ain’t going to happen. They probably needed 2,500 car spaces to make it work. But that still doesn’t fix all the issues with the surrounding roads. It doesn’t help that you have to pass the park entry to enter the car park rows, so that’s a lot of people crossing the road where people are wanting to turn to get to the carpark spaces. MW and SW don’t have that problem as their car parks direct traffic away from the park entry. Hopefully DW have got a better plan and it works better for them this weekend.

  15. Public transport to and from DW on a Saturday night isn't really a thing. I just tried a Translink planner for this Saturday night and I can't get a bus home. I also tried the train planner also and if I was to leave DW at 9.00pm the first train I would make would be 10:32pm.

  16. Very much so. It feels disconnected from the park in my eyes. It's like... tucked away on the other side of the Dreamworld Express line in its own little space besides ABC Kids World.

  17. There seems to be a correlation between rising complaints and DW's flogging off of cheap annual passes. They're getting the customers they're asking for. But I guess DW's current ride line-up can't really justify a high price

  18. Sorry @themagician I should have clarified that I thought it was about Spooky Nights which is why I was confused. Sorry! Looking at these though I don't know if I'm reading this wrong but it seems like most people's major criticism was regarding other people. It seems like everybody tried arriving at the park right on the event starting and it caused huge amounts of congestion. Then once that crowd sorted out their parking they all bomb rushed the front gate. The last complaint is because the family decided to go get Maccas and then got caught in traffic. Why would Dreamworld be so heartless and do this to them? Seems that once people got through the gates they had a lot of fun. I haven't been to the event (thanks COVID!) so I can't really judge it, but I certainly wouldn't be getting there right on start and expect to get through the gates easily. There's an element of personal responsibility here to make sure that you plan ahead and factor in that other people also attend these events.

  22. By all the gates he means the annual pass and guest service entries in the middle and then all the ticket booths either side of these entries. I can’t remember exactly but I believe there is around 20 entry booths into Dreamworld.

  23. I take back my ideas - I prefer Joz's! Overseas parks are doing amazing things with their queues and station buildings (and as Joz suggested, sometimes carrying over to the very start of the ride) to really build up the atmosphere. These days the best we seem to get at the major parks are basically jazzed up open-air tents

  24. I didn’t get photos on the day, but you can see in the below image how the canopy opens up more towards the top of the queue, which does give you views of the coaster

  25. This idea definitely could’ve been played on more, but in some ways the queue does tease this idea of building anticipation. Standing in the queue, you can hear the coasters mechanics working down the launch track. You can hear it launch and you’ll definitely hear the riders. There are stalls gaps in the wall (that allow for the canopy structure) that reveal the train as it launches past. And while the canopy hides the majority of the track circuit, there are moments where you get a real good look for the train travel past and at some moments, real close too. When on the loading platform you don’t get to really see any of the track, but you can certainly hear the train, which I think is a way of building the anticipation as you’re about to board. It really is

  26. I don't think we've had anything official from the park to state that, but it is my guess, and I think a lot of others too - it's not a massive area for park crowds, and there's no other draw here. its quiet, and picturesque - definitely a place for reflection and the like - its so very outside of everything else at Dreamworld its about the only thing it could be. 25th October this year is the 5 year anniversary, so the timing for this (it looks practically complete minus a few benches around the garden) seems right too. A small memorial and dedication of the area seems fitting before they launch the brand new thrill ride on the old site too...

  27. This morning I was invited out to Dreamworld to get a sneak peek of Steel Taipan and a walk through of the entire area. I’ll start out by saying, overall they’ve done a good job with the area. It’s very nicely presented, good aesthetic/theming elements and watching both trains in testing while in the queue/entry areas is awesome. I was able to take a few photos of the area, so I’ll describe what I captured and if anyone has any questions, I’ll try answer them the best I can with what I can share publicly. The entry signage is something we’ve already seen, but here it is up close The path leading to the queue entry A look at the entry and exit paths There is a test seat before joining the queue. The garden beds throughout have been done very nicely. Suits the theme/style. There is a main, single rider and Tailwhip queue. The queue wait time and ride safety information sign is yet to be installed, but will be positioned here. The station area is massive and allows for many people to be organised for loading to make it as efficient as possible. There are also large fans in the station and queue. The screens will show boarding information. Here’s a closer look at the train

  28. No - just noting your logic is flawed in responding to GoGoBoy's supposed correlation. They could have offered a special pass that didn't include halloween for the discounted price if there were any capacity concerns...
