  1. Any bets on opening day? Reckon it will be boxing day like they usually do?
  2. Just to be clear you said: What other possible reason, occurring on or about the 17th of December (being approximately 4 weeks from time of post) would result in a 'lot of people being stood down' leaving them with a 'heap of roles to fill'? Unless mandated - why would so many staff walk out of a job right before Christmas? We're all intelligent adults here mate - don't insult our intelligence by trying to suggest you meant something else was going to cause Dreamworld to stand down 'a lot of people'. It is as plain as day. I found me some stats folks. Source health.gov.au. The 20-39 age bracket has a national population of 7,377,551. The total number of persons (as at 17/11) who had not yet had any dose of the vaccine was 1,068,045. This is around 14.5% of the population in this age bracket. (Worth noting though that 35-39 year olds are at 10%, while 20-24 year olds are at 19%. The Gold Coast ranks at 16th out of 40 local government areas in the state for first doses, and 13th out of 40 for second doses. This ranks the GC higher than Ipswich, Scenic Rim, Gympie, Logan, Lockyer Valley, and lower than Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Brisbane and Redland (Although the difference between the GC and the highest LGA - Redland Council - is 7.6%. As for North Gold Coast being the lowest of the Gold Coast region, I call bullshit. This is sorted by single dose rates. While the double dose figures vary, it is reasonable to assume most people who received 1 dose will get their second dose within the next 4 weeks. For anyone curious, the regions above can be viewed on a map here
  3. I'm not saying it isn't 'A' factor, just not 'THE' factor, and certainly not a 'huge' one. Everyone is hiring for the season. Confidence has improved with things opening up and dates firming up. Everyone 80%+ is getting ready to try doing more normal things again. Few people volunteer to leave a job right before christmas, so the timing is going to be an impact, but the hiring of xmas staff (who do meet the requirements) means they just hire a few more in the mix, and can choose from a wide selection to replace those they lost. They were about to do bulk recruitment and bulk training anyway, what's a few more people in the room? I think 10% is being extraordinarily generous. The uptick in vax rates post-announcement suggests the current states include a lot of 'hesitaters' rather than outright objectors. For those who weren't early adopters, there was no real reason to go out and get it - until 9 November. Now there is a reason. The park (and many other employers) will lose a few strong objectors, but most people who have jobs will choose a paycheck, and if the park loses more than 2-3% i'll be very surprised. Circling back to the crux of this line of discussion, I disagree that the park is 'about to stand down a lot of people' or 'have a heap of roles to fill' because of the vax restrictions. I suppose it depends on what you consider 'a lot' or 'a heap'.
  4. Nice try attempting to imply the vax rules were to blame, when many facilities are doing christmas staff drives, and that being the more logical explanation, Mr Occam over here says it's almost certainly Xmas, not Vax as the cause. I don't really want to drag yet another thread into the garbage pit over Covid and Vaccines, but it needs to be said. While some age groups are lagging, and some regions the same, the Premier said only a few days ago the Gold Coast's vax rates were looking positive. I can't find a reliable government source on local government age-bracketed vax rates, so i'll concede your current stats absent your sources and i'll just say this: A week ago, on November 10th, the Queensland "doses per 100 people" ranked at 0.637. As of yesterday, November 16th, the same metric is now 0.824 doses per 100 people. Thats about a 30% upwards swing in 6 days (Blue line is national average) There's a distinct uptick in the number of people suddenly opting to get vaccinated immediately after November 9th. I wonder what was so special about that day? Oh right - the QLD Government announced unvaxxed would be restricted from certain activities. (ETA: Mods - perhaps instead of removing this line of discussion it could be moved to the thread linked above?)
  5. I've seen that before. What a horrible bloody slide though. Absolutely boring. This is a place so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to consider whether they should. And they shouldn't.
  6. The Rescuer's Down Under Billabong Boat Ride. Proudly Sponsored by Evinrude.
  7. Source? Statistically speaking, since we just recently reached 80% single dose as a state, the chances are less than 20% of their workforce will be impacted - and industries where vax is mandated tend to have a higher rate of vax take-up. So I find this doubtful, and given the majority of the positions are listed as max term casual, I find it more likely the recruitment drive is predominantly a christmas peak season push. Nice try though.
  8. How do you feel about Doomsday theming on a twin hammer?
  9. @Richard every time i login to check new activity in the past couple days (on different devices) this article keeps popping up. I also saw an article on Facebook about the Drinks \ Sauce, but haven't seen it here - not sure if related...
  10. Are you talking about the WB branding in Abu Dhabi or the criticism of VIllage sticking the rake on everything? I don't hate the WB branding, but the Rake is soulless corporate without a hint of anything close to being the kind of environment you want to visit. Every 'cast' member in their parks now wears the same 'costume' unless they are actually in a heavily themed or performance role. Heck, I remember when the show technicians used to wear a 'crew' shirt... but these bland corporate one-size-fits-most polos isn't the brand that should be public, and this constant push to shove a \\\V on everything is distracting and 'bad show'.
  11. This ^ is Wonderland's Intamin Looping Starship. It was called 'Bounty's Revenge'. Yes, it did get sent to Sunway Lagoon and I believe continues to operate to this day. It isn't what this thread is about. This ^ is the HMS Endeavour. https://youtu.be/IrfKfydhfR8

  13. They are for the January period. I also note WA Premier Mark McGowan is visiting the park for the New Year's Eve movie.
  14. If I remember correctly, we were thinking cost cutting over at village at the time too. Just because nobody is within the ride envelope, it doesn't mean it isn't being worked on 'back of house'... and besides, if everything else is done, and they're just waiting on *crucial part* what else do you want them to do? give a guy a broom to sweep the floor every day to make it look like they're busy?
  15. Yeah, i'm two minds here - i'd prefer them to be cautious on dates and reopen earlier as a surprise if they get it done sooner, but with shipping issues all over its really had to plan anything. I feel we had similar discussions about Villages maintenance dates being extended willy nilly not too long ago, end of the day there isn't much they can do if the parts don't arrive.
  16. And to continue the equine abuse - WhiteWaterWorld opened in 2006 - yet Thunder River was super popular right up until the day of the incident - so popular that the park was making decisions to keep the ride operating when they perhaps shouldn't. Log ride likewise had high patronage right up until the bondage roofing was installed. The difference between DW and AW (that I can tell) is that one is a theme park, and one is an 'action park' hybrid - the waterslides and pools are intermingled amongst the other attractions to a point where the park has to accept that wet shorts are going to ride the rollercoaster because to ask patrons to get changed first would just be plain stupid. Nobody wants to walk around a dry park like Dreamworld in the South East Queensland humidity in damp (and rapidly warming) swimwear. I don't know about the weather over in Perth, but here in SEQ, that's a sure-fire pathway to Swamp-Crotch.
  17. Some of the tender sites have shown more details prior to tender selection too - so when the initial call goes out, if you catch it then, you can sometimes get a look at more details project info without having subscribed.
  18. ...and of course the other option is tender sites and freight. do the parts head down the coast, or up to the Port?
  19. The question now is who is going to trawl all the various council websites to determine which Aussie park has lodged a DA for it... the challenge is on! Look at those horrible blank walls by the launch! how terrible they didn't theme those walls!
  20. That's a bit premature. These are all decorative panels \ cladding and could be out for paint and panel. There's no boiler... wheel assemblies, controls... The tender is there but thats basically just a tank, so no external cladding. Dreamworld have been pretty straight about things lately - and they're VERY aware of the Steam base in their community - i doubt they'd have killed it. My guess is 12+ months outside the shed without shelter or work has hurt the finish and they're polishing it up before reopening.
  21. Please tell me what you did here! It's hurting my brain!
