  1. cue update from TPSN in about 12 hours time spruiking their 'exclusive first look at the carriages' Side note of no relevance - for this style of ride, I prefer 'Gondola' to 'Carriage'
  2. In less than an hour, how did you get from "they must be" (an assumption) to "MW utilising" (a statement of fact) ? Which is it?
  3. I'll admit - I hadn't seen the mount points indicated in the above picture when I said that, and after recognising the mounts for what they were, I totally agree with you.
  4. I've received additional word that the park has always had two sets of bogeys, so the second set being visible isn't an indication of a new train coming. Apparently they still only have one set of hangers (the piece that connects to the joint in the middle of the "axle" seen in the centre of the photo above), so looks like a second train is off the cards.
  5. DD is due in September, yes? So long as they don't have any delays, that area opening up and hosting a DC themed scare zone or maze would be ideal.
  6. The circle looks purely decorative, and I'd imagine if the circle didn't fit with the theme for doomsday, MW would have elected simply to not have it as part of the ride. It doesn't appear to serve any purposes, other than to represent the circular nature of themes (like a clock for instance) so unless MW has come up with a clever way to integrate it into the ride theme, i'd sooner they left it off.
  7. $109.99 for 13 months isn't outside the realm of 'usual pricing'. They've also now got to ensure the pricing is relevant to the Membership - they don't want to be seen to be offering the same or more for a lower price on a VIP pass when members are still paying per month, otherwise they may lose membership back to the VIP program. I doubt we'll see much in the way of a price drop until closer to Christmas, when the validity is ~6 months.
  8. I've had a TOT2 overshoot. I'm sure they were fun when it was TOT, but TOT2 - going headfirst towards the end of the tunnel whilst juddering to a screeching stop was a bit concerning. I've also been on TailSpin where it malfunctioned - pretty sure it was at least 4 times, during a night event. Several others here were there too. Can't think of any other times, although i've been the cause of a few stoppages on Disneyland attractions - which they do to allow a wheelchair guest board. Haunted Mansion would probably be my favourite of these. In other news, I caught on the news last night there was an accident on a highway in Queensland where a trailer mounted hurricane ride killed a man travelling in the opposite direction. I've looked for an online link and can't find anything, but from what I saw on the news, the ride was folded for transport, and one of the ride arms flung out sideways from the trailer, essentially clotheslining the oncoming car. The driver was killed by the impact.
  9. The thing with houses is that some builders employ monkeys who do the same thing every time, so when something is out of the ordinary, they don't actually check the plans - they're doing a number 4 house, so thats how number 4 houses are done. I've seen it happen a lot. Its up to a good site supervisor to make sure the contractors know when there is something different or unusual to be added As for the manufacturing in a foreign country though, the thing is that all the bits are built by one company, working together. The only thing that isn't done by them is the site foundations - so you're more likely to have everything fit together properly, as the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.
  10. The ride may be dead silent, but it's not the machine noise that has upset the residents in the past - it was the screams from the riders. The difference with the residents now is that there is established case law on the site. Future litigation is likely to fall in favour of the park.
  11. He's reaching. I think this might be a more realistic suggestion of what it is (right side of picture). I would suggest the insulators are wrapped as they are generally ceramic, and they don't want to break them before they arrive on site...:
  12. The work now necessary may not have been apparent back in 2011 when they started the retheme. That's 5 years ago now. Plus the burnt out structure may have been ok, but by enclosing it, perhaps it catches the wind more, and this has placed extra stress on it. After reviewing the nearmap photos, I am absolutely certain that they used the existing tower structure, and added to it. Remember although it looks flimsy, the internal structure is a series of heavy I-beams, usually visible only to riders as they fly through that section of the coaster - however that structure has weathered the storm since the ride first opened, and may be in need of some love. To be honest, i'm thinking that when they had the facades done for the new DD, they probably figured the additional cost of redoing the ones for arkham in perhaps better quality \ more realism etc was a minimal extra and had them both done at the same time. There may be nothing structurally wrong here and they're just redoing the facade with much better quality.
  13. I think we've already seen photos of the 3D buildings they're constructing around the plaza. The 2d mural is obviously just the far background, to blend what's in the foreground. As for the Arkham tower, i'm pretty sure LW had a similar structure in place, and the Arkham stuff is just a wrap around that. So the tower itself has stood since Lethal was first built, which may be the reason for such extensive overhaul. Update - photo proof. Nearmap apologises for the poor quality image.
  14. Im fairly confident it's just the angle.
  15. Can you support that?... considering we had several reports of test runs, and photo evidence of train movement on the track - We've all seen the photos. We know the theming is shot. the mountain is run down and its a bit dusty, but come on - we have no evidence of any mechanical flaw in the system at all...
  16. ^For those that wonder why many of us frequently point out how you can't please enthusiasts no matter what you do... So here's the thing. When you're dealing with a corporation that has multiple sites (Disney, Universal, Six Flags), they have to start somewhere. They can't build the same ride in 6 parks simultaneously as it would cost too much, as instead of making one mistake they'd make 6. The tech being developed from scratch would also cost more, rather than duplicating the successful finished product once mastered. If they had chosen to put a new first ever attraction into, say - Euro Disney, and then roll it out to the US parks later, with improvements - the whiners would carry on about how Paris got it first, and why didn't the US parks get it first since they were bigger \ older \ more original \ closer to their house. So - the US parks get most of the 'brand new' tech, but this also means in later iterations when other parks follow suit and improve, they are left looking like the poor cousin.
  17. I recall talking to one of the operators (who i've known for a long time) not long after GL opened, and mentioned that the switch was set to off. It's been a while now, but I think the reply was basically that that switch doesn't have anything to do with whether audio is on or off. As for the charging overnight thing - of course they do, but I thought when we heard about the tech coming to the park that the trains would top up charge every time they were in the station? Wasn't there some really rapid charging technology or something?
  18. Considering the many locations of the Rotor, depending on what it is, it shouldn't be too hard...
  19. Wrong thread TPG. They belong in the Dreamworld thread. I'm just looking at this going... "awesome paint job. looks great. how long will it last, and will they bother to put so much effort into the repaint when it has faded in the summer sun? "
  20. And you probably never will see it at gold coast parks. Giving a ride-load of people a queue jump ticket would cause havoc on wait times and capacity. Disney shutdowns tend to resolve very quickly as the cast members all train on how to run the mountain \ reset etc. very quickly. Some leads are trained to perform console resets without the need for a mechanic, depending on the error code, so they can reset without clearing the queue either. That, and when your ride puts through 10x the people that the GC rides do, a train full of people is less noticeable when they come back later in the day.
  21. The unofficial back of house spy whisper is saying a second train is coming. I trust the source so i'd say it's is all but confirmed. the issue here, is whether that will improve operations, or simply allow them to reduce maintenance downtime by running one train whilst the other is in the workshop (AKA Superman). I do hope and pray that MW operations fully intend on maintaining two-train operation, and running it efficiently during busier periods... but i'm not holding my breath at this stage.
  22. Seems these happen almost every time there is an evac - theres plenty of them although the quality on this one is one of the best i've seen. I'm still amazed how that fit such an action packed ride into such tight spaces. thanks for the share.
  23. If @Spotty says there was a full train on track and a full set of bogeys in the transfer, I believe it. Whether that = second train is coming, i don't know, but the pics so far don't confirm anything.
