  1. I think $25 per entry is far more generous than 100% of ticket sales. I'd suggest the vast majority of people flocking back to the park over those two days would be passholders who have been sitting in a corner in the foetal position shivering and sweating whilst waiting for it to return. I would suggest takings from actual ticket sales for that weekend would be minimal, whereas $25 for every passholder is really a way of dreamworld dipping into their own pocket as a donation, on the basis of the number of members who flock back. So for those who couldn't afford to make some sort of donation, or lay flowers, you can still 'contribute' to the ongoing expenses incurred by the families simply by walking through the gate. Dreamworld itself will benefit from this simply by being able to show images of people flocking back to the park, helping dispell the media myths that the park is inherently unsafe, and giving more people confidence that it is ok to return. Edit: i'm sorry I didn't see the post you're referring to Rappa - i'd have liked to have read it, but no doubt if it raised your ire so significantly that you took immediate action of that nature, i'm sure it was absolutely appalling.
  2. See this just proves to me that you only read what you feel like. When someone makes a pretty definitive statement, like 'already ruled out' - maybe you could either take their word for it, or go back and read what you've skipped over? And in case you can't be bothered clicking on it: That isn't as absurd an idea as it sounds. It wouldn't be hard to construct a stage on the fairway.
  3. Apparently there have been some parts that aren't meeting MW standards. I hear that Intamin are working very hard and very quickly to fix the issue, but it won't open until they're happy.
  4. Poor Sunshine coast. yet another waterpark proposal. ultimately - we will just have to wait and see whether this one gets off the ground... but i'm not holding my breath.
  5. It won't really - this parking is to offset the loss of parking closer to the park once construction starts on a number of their current projects - however most of the vehicles currently exit the motorway and enter the property immediately. When parking is moved to another site, this leads vehicles from the main entrance on entertainment drive to the much bemoaned roundabout and down Kopps road. This DOES mean additional vehicles using that section of road. TBH I think VR would be best placed to make it a staff carpark. I'm not sure that they would need 770 staff parking spaces (i'm not sure what their staff levels are like across the property) but if they were able to make it staff parking, it could be a secured carpark - which would eliminate the hoon and vandalism concerns. It would free up guest parking on property, it would minimise damage to staff cars left in the lot after park close, the noise concerns made by the residents would be reduced to simple vehicular noise rather than boisterous tourists, and staff wouldn't be exiting at the same times (more or less) as the main influx \ egress of tourist vehicles from the major traffic controlled intersections down the road. As a former theme park employee, I know what it feels like at the end of the day to trudge back to your car, and moving this space further afield is a hardship for staff, and I don't think it should be imposed on them, at least not without something to minimise the impact - such as the already-ruled-out-golf-buggy concept - but its the best option as I see it.
  6. I understand the impact the incident has had on the industry. It's the primary reason why i'm not banging the announcement drum - i hear you.... ...but I have to say I understand why so many people are banging that drum... as far as caring whether its announced etc - i think many people are just looking for official confirmation of certain details. ride type, length, height, theme, concept art, layout etc. sure we might not get all of it, or we might get it all, but some additional detail... VR, hell - all parks on the coast are pretty renowned for being tight lipped on new attractions well and long after the cat has been let out of the bag unofficially through other channels, and we've long criticised them for it. I certainly won't fault them for not making an announcement in the wake of the events that we've seen at Dreamworld, but I will fault them for not sticking to their original 'major announcement in 60 days' message that came out in (checks Jamberoo's Fridge post) July I think... and note that had VR kept to that timeline, the ride would have been announced well before now. For my own views, back when Doomsday was due to launch, I bought into the idea that you wouldn't want to overshadow what was (a very well done) filler attraction with a much larger blockbuster - but looking back I think the double 'left-right' combination of 'new ride open, next big thing already on it's way' could have made bigger headlines than the Doomsday Destroyer would have done standalone. Now, specifically because of the incident at Dreamworld, the impact of any announcement will have to be much lower key, unless they delay it for several months - and in doing so, they'll once again be telling us things well after the cat is out - because we'll have footers, supports, probably track, before that occurs.
  7. I am really disgusted that this guy is an MP. So much wrong with that letter: Cr Tom Tatt, instead of Tom Tate Apparently the gold coast has a STAINED road network, whereas here we all thought it was just STRAINED "The development application does clearly states" - enough said "With an addition 731 vehicles using..." - perhaps "additional" "other resent developments" -really? how many times were they sent? - Perhaps "recent" would be more appropriate. "I hereby ask that the road network be upgrade as part of the development" - Yes. Be upgrade. Much Wow.
  8. It doesn't look like that guy is holding a paintbrush. Looks more like a rendering tool of some description.
  9. The Original Star Wars is still a very popular trilogy. The only reason the Matrix is still in popular culture today is because of Lawrence Fishburne memes.
  10. I realise the public feedback process is required for an MCU, what i'm saying is that given the park does seem to go a long way towards keeping local residents informed of things going on, they may have taken these steps for the locals to keep them on side.
  11. The final in the Matrix trilogy released in 2003 - 13 years ago. Consider that PASS was removed from WBMW in 2008, Whilst the last in the series - 'Mission to Moscow' released in 1994 - 14 years after the final film. Can we try for something that is just a little more current??? edit: oh - let's also try for something that the rights are actually obtainable... ie: nothing that Universal or Disney have already got sewn up?
  12. Constrictor was a direct replacement for terror canyon, and Aqualoop was a direct replacement for Twister and Speed Coaster. Twister had two flumes, and so did speed coaster - 4 slides, replaced with 4 aqualoops. You even linked those two together above as you said "Twister/Speedcoaster". As for Constrictor - although only one flume compared to the two terror canyons, it does have a higher capacity, and so, while not completely, does offset most of the impact of terror canyons. So the only removals have had direct replacements. In addition to this, the upcharges were installed - but they ARE ADDITIONS, not replacement attractions, so i think theres a flaw in your reasoning there. You also left out Kamikaze which was installed in 2008 - only one year outside your bracket. Dive N Movies is a loss, but it wasn't really an attraction to lose, simply an additional use of an existing attraction (like whirlpool springs) - the fact that the park doesn't stay open late as much anymore is probably the bigger factor there than simply what they did when they were open late.
  13. Its a good idea, but I have to wonder whether the cost \ benefit aspect is really worth it. They barely run it as it is, and from what I understand it is plagued by maintenance issues too. I'd hate to see them pay to relocate it only to have it sit there.
  14. That letter relates to the carpark. I'm assuming a similar letter was sent out when they lodged the coaster applications, and they probably had an 'information pack' available for the coaster too. As for tenders, i tried. the plans are stored on EstimateOne, but the site will only release the plans to someone if the head contractor permits it, and since they've already closed, they won't release them.
  15. The problem is that the salary of a stunt professional is prohibitive. Someone who can do burnouts can be found in most major shopping centre carparks on a friday and saturday night. Plus insurance - a guy inside a vehicle fitted with rollcage and wearing a firesuit etc is far cheaper to insure than a guy who throws himself off a building. Yes there is the added cost of insuring a vehicle, but i'm pretty sure a lot of their panel work is done in-house. The throughput of an attraction such as that would be ghastly. You'd get what - a group of 20 or so? maybe twice a day? And labour intensive as you'd need experienced professionals showing people how to do various aspects of production, so the labour cost would be phenomenal. Darth vader and a couple of dancers in storm trooper gear is far cheaper. What movie world needs is something crowd soaking, and infinitely repeatable. HWSD is a 'seen it once, why bother' attraction, whereas PASS could be done again and again. The SFX show was repeatable as the audience interaction differed every time. the studio tour not so much, but depending on productions currently in house, it worked. I'd like to see them bring back a special effects show, the like of Universal's current efforts. Showstage would be an easy option as the venue is mostly ready to go, and would only need to be fitted out with the various hardware to make a show possible. I realise doomsday does impact that area, but one could easily fit DC into the theme of the show as there would be loads of SFX across the DC films that could be utilised. Of course the fact that the park only has license to the comic and not the film versions is a sticking point but it would still be totally doable.
  16. black pipe, red stripe - that is a fire service pipe, Son. http://www.apsvic.com.au/pe100-pipe.php
  17. the alternative that i'm thinking is like a lot of these things VR provided the residents with more information, and perhaps that included setbacks (a number of other plans have shown the setbacks required \ measured) i doubt this fuddy duddy neighbour knows how to use nearmap.
  18. If Dreamworld get to call MDMC a thrill ride, then Jet Rescue definitely qualifies.
  19. I totally agree with you, but I wouldn't say no to an awesome 'space mountain' type ride - just a coaster in the dark with a kickass soundtrack and awesome space-lighting and effects. i'd probably just be disappointed though.
  20. LOL. if the ramps were to follow Kopps road (down to the east on the north, and down to the west on the south) it'd be a distance you'd be walking anyway. I have to say though - we need to dig deeper. There is one resident submission which mentions several of the other approvals MW have lodged recently (including coaster, hotel and lakeside) and he makes specific mention of setback distances of the new coaster from the highway and service roads 'according to the plans' - i'm wondering whether the coaster plans may have been divulged to local residents... there could be a way to find them afterall...
  21. Whilst the ramp itself probably isn't an issue (only the bottom 5 metres or so can't be parked under, and on the other side they have the room) its the wires I can't see them getting around - especially here when you see just how low they actually are: google street view of Kopps Road
  22. Well, he did say 'like' Tron, although his point about the theming being what makes it really cool is probably what kills the idea...
