Factual Basis? As I said on maintenance - 'just not as pedantic' - example? Disney changes out lightbulbs in attractions and on structures when they reach 60% of their life expectancy, so that they don't blow 'in show'. Yes they've had accidents. Big Thunder is a good one - a result of cost cutting under Eisner's business model where external contractors were being used to perform essential maintenance. I've read the accident report and it's findings state precisely that. Haven't read into Cal Screamin, so I have no idea what happened there. My statement on 'more and more injuries' wasn't fact, it was prediction. I didn't say there HAVE BEEN more and more injuries, i said it was going to START causing more and more. Would I say the same of Dreamworld? You should know me well enough that i'm no fan of Dreamworld. Yes - I would say Dreamworld are not as pedantic as Disney. The last time I saw Revolution, it's white track was looking very akin to Orphan Rocker - black fading through grey to white from top to bottom. it looked filthy - And Matterhorn and Space are both older but with much \ all of the track indoors, the 'weathering' that revolution is showing is not apparent on those. No - I don't know their maintenance procedures. I'm sure they're thorough. I'm sure they're up to the highest safety standards and I didn't mean to suggest otherwise... I don't view 'maintenance' as JUST the physical mechanics of operation. I also view maintenance as - whether it has been allowed to LOOK run down, dirty, old, worn out and tired. THIS was what I meant: http://coasterbuzz.com/CoasterPhoto/CoasterPhotoImage/1881 I apologise if i'd not made it clear that I was suggesting they didn't perform maintenance to a standard that would lead to people being killed (i'm pretty sure I specifically stated I wasn't critiquing safety). "second to none" was probably not the right phrase to use either.... hope that makes a little more sense.

Just Disneyland or other parks in SoCal? How long do you have? Is there anything else you have to do (family) or other people you need to take into account? As stated above - we need some more info before we can offer much... that said - these threads occur every few months so there's probably all the advice you need in those other threads too.... but if you tell us a bit more about who you are, who you're travelling with, what you like to do and what you're interested in.... and maybe we can work with that...

Richard's confirmation'll do. I know it's not that often it happens - but is there some sort of forum tag (like the community leader tags) that can formally attach to a 'official park' account - kind of like a 'verified tick' on facebook? Glad to have Jamberoo officially on the boards. Apart from Wonderland, it was my other home away from home on weekends during season. Lost count of toboggan laps I did back in the day... -

Mate - we remember that. You told us. But you also asked what we think, and you asked us to help you out. You also asked what rides you should check out at Epcot and another park... In case you forgot - i've quoted you above. The people who are giving you specific advice on what you're doing, or which order you're doing things in are giving you that advice based on lots of experience. Don't get angry at them because you can't do what they're telling you you should - get angry at the other people in your group who won't listen to reason. Print out this thread - show it to them when you explain to them why you think you should hit MK first, Epcot in the afternoon and then back to MK later. You're already buying a park hopper (and wasting 1 day's admission in the process) so obviously there's a few screws loose in the collective group - when they could spend a day at each for the same money, or just bite the bullet, pick one park, and spend all day at it to save money on the 2 day hopper. You're either appealing to those who are economically sensible, or those who are park-planning sensible. As it stands, your group is being neither. By the sounds of things (as you mentioned previously) you're free to stick around MK until the Kiss Goodnight which occurs AFTER closing... So your group organisers are happy to be in the parks REALLY late... Why then - are you forced to stay with your group the entire day? Can you not arrange to meet them at the TTC? after closing? I bet if you talked to the others in your group, there'd probably be others who would want to do it differently too - you could then stay together so you weren't "on your own".... I don't know - you ask for advice but argue with every piece given... something just doesn't seem right... -
Wait on Magician - T-bone has a point... Looking at photos of the Brock experience - it's a big shed with cars on display. Redline's simulators take up about the same space as a real car - how many simulators are there? and how many Brock cars are coming? It would be easy to take the sims out, and put brock cars in - the railings etc are already in place... Nobody said it had to be 'everything you can see in the Brock Experience shed... it'll be 'Brock Experience Lite' and feature maybe 6-8 cars? (not sure how many simulators they have) Sure it doesn't fit with DW saying "major attraction"... but this IS Dreamworld... a park that calls MDMC a 'thrill', and considers a Zombie Apocalypse, a Racing Simulator, and a Rock Climbing Wall to fit "Ocean Parade"

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced

That's a slab... it does look like the little boxed pieces above the reo sheets might be footing positions, but something about it makes me think 'not a coaster'. I'm probably wrong and it totally is... but i just don't feel like it is - especially on such sandy ground - wouldn't we be expecting footings to actually go into the ground, not just be poured 'as a slab' ? Ok - a Kiddie coaster isn't exactly 'groundshaking' - but i just feel like there should be something a little more substantial for a coaster. If this thing really is a dragon wagon or similar i'm going to be very disappointed... -

Does the sign say "we will periodically close this attraction for safety reasons whilst the lake show is on" ? -
Yes, Matterhorn is older (technically so is Space Mountain Orlando), but I think Disney has done several refurbs and rebuilds on a track which is largely sheltered indoors (coupled with the need for high intensity maintenance on the bobsleds due to the repetitive water brakes)... Disney's a poor example to compare against - their maintenance and care of attractions (barring certain periods of Eisner's involvement) is second to none. SFMM's maintenance would not live up to the same standard. (I'm not suggesting their maintenance procedures are unsafe - just not as pedantic.) Don't get me wrong - I love revolution, love the movie, and have ridden it in both the 90s and the... 10s? I absolutely found it was quite jarring back in 2013 (although not as bad as Thunderbolt was), but still enjoyed the terrain and layout amazing (especially going over the bits that featured in the film)... but it is a rough ride and it is going to start causing more and more injuries. Although extremely unlikely - if the coroner comes back and says this girl had no pre-existing condition, and her injury\death is entirely the fault of the coaster - it'll be gone tomorrow - regardless of what ACE fanboys think.

^ lol. I've never encountered another ride anywhere that i would get off and refuse to ever ride again. For me - a Zacspin was it. Plus there's the whole Inferno incident to think about too. I'm not sure the S&S Free Spin would fit into LPS's available space, but by all accounts is far more enjoyable than the Zacspin... anyone care to work that one out? -
Major Rides Shut at Coast Theme Park (WBMW article)
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I didn't suggest it was a legal thing as I couldn't be sure without doing any research where the particular requirement lay, however since you mention it - it's number one on the code of ethics held by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance... "Do your utmost to give a fair opportunity for reply"; of which most media outlets and journalists belong. That said, the ACMA administers the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice, and handles complaints in line with the Broadcasting Services Act of 1992. Section 4 in particular of the CoP refers to news and current affairs, and ensures news and current affair programs are presented accurately, fairly, and impartially. It would not be a difficult argument to make that the program was not fair or impartial if they make no effort to allow the 'other party' the right of reply... The CoP also requires that the network 'broadcast factual material accurately and represent viewpoints fairly" Although not law, the CoP are developed under the direction of Sec123 of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992. Sec128 gives parliament the power to amend the codes of practice developed under Sec123. It may not be law... but I doubt many broadcasters would flout the codes of practice as it would seem there is a lot of regulatory and government backing behind those codes that it wouldn't end prettily. -
Unfortunately, as of last night - all Nearmaps are still stuck in April somewhere - so no new aerial shots available to compare. Given the shot of the frog hopper earlier in this discussion though, it looks like it's taking up a fair chunk of rivertown, so i don't think there'd be any room for the V8 attraction, and even if there was, i doubt they'd fit much. As for the area around Cyclone - to be honest, the 'under ride' area of Cyclone is perfect - the elevated nature of the custom ride leaves heaps of 'back of house' space they could definitely utilise for other things...

"oxymoron" The ride experience is the same, with the exception of the riding position. "get in, sit down, spin around until centrifugal force ensures you're firmly held in place, elevate to near-vertical angle, return to horizontal position, stop spinning." "get in, remain standing, spin around until centrifugal force ensures you're firmly held in place, elevate to near-vertical angle, return to horizontal position, stop spinning." So, in a sense, they're completely different rides, and in a sense, they're completely identical rides. #makessense -
Major Rides Shut at Coast Theme Park (WBMW article)
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I couldn't cite you the specifics, but media outlets are required to contact the 'other party' involved in pieces like this. It's why you'll always see at the end of a news.com article where it says "News.com.au contacted XXXX for comment, but no calls were returned this afternoon" or something like that. Essentially they have to give the target of the story the right of reply. Some organisations just keep their mouth shut and weather the storm as media bluster, and others will come out all guns blazing. Unfortunately any comment given to the media can be then used out of context - which is why many won't comment without a prepared statement. Storm is in the gold coast bulletin every few days because the ride system stalls - probably just a dicky sensor that keeps getting wet or something, but apparently this is 'dangerous' because people have to get evacuated. -
Yeah I believe the March 2010 date was due to the seat breaking off, which was apparently due to a weld that received too much vibration during operation and failed. the new trains dont have that weld - it's a solid piece. I believe it technically opened, ran for about a week, then closed due to the seat issue.

^^ that latest artwork is making the monster eye appear more cartoonish and less scary... it's starting to look like it's oscar the friendly alligator* rather than any monster... the earlier teaser art was much 'darker' in it's tone... (*does not actually exist) -
See... here in Australia - as soon as it's warm enough to take your jacket off, and walk around in singlet and shorts - we're cooking outside. we're eating outside. Stuffed if i know why because we all know thats where the flies are... but we've developed ingenous inventions to assist with this. We put on a marvellous spread of food - salads, charred and burned cow, sheep and chook, lay it out on the table, and then cover it with a fine mesh - so the flies can only reach the topmost part of the food (and everyone scoops the potato salad from the bottom)We attach corks to broad brim hats by a string and sell them to tourists, laughingly promising that they'll keep the flies off.The poorly planned outdoor BBQ - without nets - involves making a sacrifice to the fly-gods - you must place the juciest, fattiest bit of meat in the middle of the table - where it will attract flies and act as a decoy for what is on your plate. We use sayings like 'avagoodweekend' - because it's the 1970's slogan for insect repellent. Our kids learn to close the door when coming into the house - usually because every adult within sight of the door will scream out "CLOSETHEDOORYOU'RELETTINGALLTHEFLIESIN!!!" whilst watching the boxing day test in air conditioned comfort. My point is - Australia = Flies. Especially when it's hot, even more especially when it's dry. You don't think for one moment that a tourist destination website is going to tell you about all the things they have that will annoy you or kill you do you? Did the hotel's website inform you of the various snakes present in the red centre that could kill you? Probably not - because that is bad for business. Instead they talk about the towering ghost gums and flowering native shrubs... Granted - selling fly nets in the hotel lobby would be GOOD for business... but hey - they're operating a tourist spot in one of the most remote places in the world... they obviously aren't that bright.

Yes you're the only one. Considering the article posted by Jobe actually points out that the UFO previously in LPS was a sucessor to the enterprise... i don't think the park wants to be going backwards in time. And LPS should NEVER get a Zacspin. that is all. -
Yeah - that's what happens when Journo's 'update' their stories without "re-proofing" them: I'm betting pre-existing condition - probably heart or head. Park is not at fault. 'L.A. Times analysis of theme park injuries is ground breaking stuff.... who would have thought dizzyness and nausea would be the number one complaint, followed by neck and back pain? Whilst i'm sure Revolution is not 'responsible' for this child's death, I envisage SFMM may look to remove or refurb it soon... it's pushing 40 years old... It may not be the oldest steel coaster in the world... but it is starting to feel like it!

Well... Considering that was all the vibe at the start of May (original announcement looks to have been 19th April), i'd say we're sticking with a September holidays opening - doesn't appear to have been any further news or changes to that in the past 6 weeks... It's been around 2 months since the announcement, but we are still around 3 months away from the 'deadline'... I'd say any delay or change to circumstances will come much closer to the 'September' date, and probably only if weather or other adverse effects occur to delay it.
