I opened this on saturday, and loaded the page, but never got around to reading it until last night. This is a perfect example of what a park needs to do when they bring in a new ride. They've built an entire world around just one ride, based on it's position within a fictional world. A ride isn't "x" themed because you plonk it down, call it that, paint it the right colour and put a few props in the queue. Every aspect of the ride has to be suited to the theme. While Orlando has always been on the to do list (and WWOHP wasn't enough to bump it up the list) this just ensured it is number 2 on my 'next to do' list. (Japan holds #1 simply because the wife has always wanted to go there, and our last two trips already postponed it).

I have to say - based on the video alone (good job by the way) I thought the parade was fantastic - but I can't help but think that guests would have been happy with half of that, with more money spent on experiences (just my own opinion). I love that effort was made to place strip lighting on the ford utes, and the green+purple checker scheme looks great (under the movers, the light makes different parts of the checkers look like they change colour which is a nice effect), but at the same time - random utes (not towing floats) just seemed out of place (although i'm sure they've been sponsored, it doesn't appear to have any sponsorship decals on them). Last question - how the hell to they achieve a turnaround? Whenever i've been to a parade, i've always been up near daily planet. The fountain is obviously a great turning circle - but i'm stumped how some of these elaborate floats can pass each other (because it doesn't seem like they could all enter the turning circle before some have begun the journey back)... I'd like to see footage of THAT.

MW Mini Driving School - Officially Confirmed

^amen. Not every new ride has to be a 'big thrill ride' - are you listening Dreamworld? -
Interesting knowledge you seem to have there. You're new here, so please forgive my skepticism - what kind of connection do you have to the park? Thanks for sharing.

What you're explaining was that it was stuck upside down. Did you see anyone poke it with a stick and rock it down? or did anyone encourage the riders to rock themselves? Or did it slowly lower itself around, thereby implying it was a geared drive?
-
To be fair though, most of them have the same livery. It did look like a truck mounted model, but it wasn't necessarily the same one...

Isn't it a geared drive? I'm pretty sure pandamonium doesn't have free-swinging capability - so if the drive stops turning, it's going to stay in that position, isn't it?

^you can hardly call it news.

Hell - even just Sandblasting it - DW wouldn't have a blasting booth big enough (if at all) to fit the entire gondola into it. The guys that work on the ride every day are the ones that MAINTAIN the ride. This doesn't mean they're the best people to do a 20 year overhaul rebuild. They'd certainly have the skills and abilities, but perhaps not to the same extent needed - not to mention if you devote your 'day to day maintenance' crew onto a job this big, your day to day maintenance is going to suffer. Just because the guy dusts the frame of the mona lisa every day, doesn't mean he's capable of repainting it.

Government handouts overload

...Because across the road, they probably don't have anywhere near the number of parking spaces that Movie World has, and traffic management is a BIG part of any community event. And whilst it is the aim of every commercial enterprise to make a profit - there are many instances of commercial entities doing something for free or at cost - and businesses DO do that - it's called 'goodwill'. In some cases, it can be even more valuable than money. It's been said already that it ISN'T movieworld putting the carols on - they're simply permitting use of their outer grounds after hours, and the money is going to suppliers and services, rather than any profit. Like a dry-hire for a hall. Can you imagine the gridlock if there was one carol event in the gold coast, that everyone in the GCCC area went to? You wouldn't fit it all in - there is no room. And just because you have to pay admission to see the aboriginal attraction - that isn't any different to any other cultural tourist attraction you need to pay for. Nobody works for free. By hosting it at dreamworld, it actually keeps the costs down because Dreamworld absorb costs of maintenance and upkeep. A standalone facility would cost much more. (And no doubt, a tour group who JUST wants to see the aboriginal experience would probably get a nice group discount from the park as well) -

Parkz News Speculating on WhiteWater World's next slide
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
...So you're betting on 3 out of 4... thats good odds. My bet for what WWW are getting is either a waterslide, or a water-related ride. -
that would be because.... they don't exist? I think they're doing a cracker job to get current attractions loaded in on as many parks (including a photo of them in a lot of cases). If we were going to ask for every ride ever in the park, we might be here a while. It'd be nice to have, but at the moment I think it's better to concentrate on currently operating rides and attractions first. Just my view.

The Parkz Update Dreamworld & WhiteWater World, June 2014
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Wooden frame still stands with the birds on top - they've just replaced the old wooden piece that was suspended from that frame, and replaced it with a sheet of sign-writer's steel. I don't have pics unfortunately. didn't really regard it as that important. I'm sure someone else will have a pic soon enough... -
The Parkz Update Dreamworld & WhiteWater World, June 2014
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^be careful what you wish for - Wild West Falls has just had a brand-new sign installed, and it's just a plain sheet of steel with sign-writing on it - it's too clean, and doesn't suit the area or the theme at all. On another idea - the missing logo at the front of the park - is it possible they're looking at changing the park's logo? -

Looking at the 'tracks' they've laid out, one way is a distinct possibility.
