Rides That Never Made It Out
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to the12thworld's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't think it was - there was discussion on these boards a long time ago, where someone suggested putting it into the Roxy. I think Gazza did some 'MSPAINT' work to show it wasn't feasible, and that was probably the end of it. -

When did Bermuda Triangle start to go downhill

I haven't seen the above video (*stupid work gateway) so will withhold my comments on the above until later... I disagree the truck was smaller. At it's travelling width, it's easily 2.5-3 metres wide, and it then has 'fold out wings' which extend it further. My best guess on the fixed ramp would be about 5 metres... so if the truck is 3, and has wings that are 1metre each, thats 5... if its a little less, sure - but this ramp isn't THAT much bigger than the travelling ramp. And yes, if they're using the screen the way it was used for HWSD - as some scenes are done on screen, and others have the live actors interacting with the screen. Green screen effects (as mentioned above) would require use of the screen to show the end result - so yes, a view of the screen IS necessary.

As i've said before, usually you need a much bigger down-ramp because some of the tricks kick the bike sideways - it gives a greater margin for error. They also do ride up the down ramp to gee up the crowd parked at the top - so they do need space to turn around. They have also done 2 and 3 riders consecutively, and each of them 'tangents' off to a different part of the landing ramp so they don't all hit in the same place in case of a crash. The covering is probably better than I expected. It's not great - but it's no worse than the 'door' that the car used to drive through at the end that was constantly blown by the wind... As for NYFA - my guess is - work experience for them, and cheap (free?) promotional film crew for them to do the new advertisements, as well as any 'on-screen' footage within the arena... One little concern I have looking at some of those pics - does this new ramp block the big-screen for guests at the extreme northern end of the arena?

Basically there was the trailer mount base, (with wooden stairs around it) and right-angled triangular trusses similar to this - http://www.funtime.com.au/data/images/flyer7.jpg There was no vertical construction at that time.

Rean, where did you make the connection to the NYFA guys? I looked at the link, I can't see a connection, other than proximity...

I already corrected that:

Stormy weather can include winds that, in the right direction and with the right force can actually maroon a coaster in a spot it would never stop at under normal circumstances. Bush beast used to have a wind force meter mounted at the top of the lift hill, with the gauge in the ops booth. Although she could run in fairly strong wind, even a medium gust from a particular direction would cause the train to stall on the first turn after the drop. The ride would shut down if the wind was coming from that direction with any force.

Wettest water ride you've been on?

I've got to put my vote behind Jurassic Park at Universal Singapore. Storm comes in a close second though. -
For those too lazy to check it out, here's a video. I can see it has pace problems pretty much the whole way through - there are several places where this thing could stall, and no wonder it has 3 or more propulsion points.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPhb3O4vIvo

Perhaps the fixed ramps were already constructed by Showtime FMX? Because i'm sure if they built them custom just for HWSD arena, they'd have measured to be sure they could fit them through the door.

Sea World Wild: What Could It Be?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to the12thworld's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Let's not attack them for this though. We've long bemoaned the park remaining tightlipped over what was coming, even when footers were drilled and poured. Having our parks come out with news of their installation 1-2 years ahead of projected opening date is good, but it does have the downside that if something else happens, and they have to change plans, they're going to look a little silly with billboards up - most people wouldn't have paid attention to Wild that much and be in a position to remember that it was ever there. I think we have to cut them a little slack if they occasionally have a 'premature' moment. VRTP have proven that they're all about 'big wow' moments with their new attractions, and in recent times, I can't think of any new attraction that has disappointed. If Wild has disappeared from SeaWorld, then maybe they couldn't do it the way they wanted to, or they're considering alternatives. We all remember VRTP's attempt to secure Werribee Zoo, then Wild comes and goes.... they obviously want to enter the 'land animal' market, having made two attempts already, so whether wild has been shelved or not, I don't think thats the last we've seen of 'animal' suggestions. Just have to wait and see. -

^not to mention more appropriately themed to house a western show than a looney tunes show... Perhaps they could take part of the LTRR building and convert into a show-stage for the LT kids show? It wouldn't have to be as big as the showstage, as I'm almost certain What's Up Rock doesn't attract nearly as big of an audience as they used to for some of the western shows...
-
^i'm going to take a half-assed stab and say they couldn't bring them into the arena, so they've lifted them over the facade from back of house, and thats why it's so high.

Is Michael Croaker still calling the shots on shows? When he was running the shows at Wonderland, I found Action Man to be reasonably slick, and of course Millennium Spellbinding was for obvious reasons, but the rest of the shows in the park - Blinky, Goldrush, and even the street performances were a little corny, and lacklustre. I know he was involved in the development of the Fish Detectives show in Sea Lion Stadium, and that show is cringeworthy at best... but then he's obviously very involved with Fright Nights and White Christmas which come off with rave reviews... so i'm of two minds (and i'm sure someone more in the know could shed some better light on the subject.) Some parks the world over have shows that have run for decades. Fantasmic. Main Street Electrical Parade had such a following, fans protested so much the park brought it back. Waterworld is close to or more than 20 years old at this point, but they still installed it in Singapore when it opened a few years back. And obviously PASS is the closest thing we have to it here... We need that sort of quality - in EVERY show... Some of them have remained unchanged for years - even while AOS - notably the most expensive show to put on - has changed 3 times since it opened.

That isn't three ramps, it's three PIECES of ONE RAMP. If you take a look at the FMX trailers, the launch ramp is a little wider than the motorcycle handlebars.... let's say about a metre wide... but the landing ramp needs to be much wider - because depending on what stunt they do, their bike may land further to the side of the centreline. When you look at the mobile FMX landing ramp (the truck) you'll see that when they pack it up to move, the outside 500mm (maybe even up to 1m) fold over on top of the rest of the truck body. You want to make your landing zone as big as possible to reduce the margin of error... plain and simple. Looking at the contour of the ramps in place, and the one they're lifting in, i'd say it's just the centre piece, and is being lifted onto the already in place frame. still fucking ugly though.

I'm inclined to think the RFID band technology was not developed by Disney, but rather was sold TO them. If the company that developed this technology sold it to WnWS too, that'd be out of Disney's reach. Fastpass is the only thing I can see that potentially has an issue, but any 'jump the queue' system these days is colloquially referred to as a 'fastpass' system, so i'm not sure a legal case, in a different jurisdiction, in a country where Disney has no theme park foothold, i don't think would succeed.
-
YUCK! That has totally ruined the awesome facades they had in that arena. I'm hoping they're going to theme the ramps from the front so they look like something else. These just look like the standard Showtime FMX ramps, without the vehicle trailers. I do hope they've got some storyline worked into this, and it isn't just an Ekka show with a camera crew.

What i'm assuming was his last day as an employee (and presumably not coming back ever) why not have a little fun? You definitely pay the price for doing it by burning bridges, but it's not like anyone else is going to follow his lead - you can't get back of house on the wave pool, and the operator isn't going to let you board the tornado - so it's not like guests will 'monkey see, monkey do' Theme park cast members are normally people who work hard, and play harder. I remember numerous occasions where cast members got tossed into the lake at the end of their last day. Other things that were a little more against the rules shall go unmentioned. I don't condone it, and i don't suggest any member of the public attempt any of it ever... but after working in a place that is meant to be such a fun escape from everyday life, I won't begrudge an employee going out with a bang on their last day...

Dreamworld's New Attraction December 2013
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to gdalby96's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Or alternatively remove it for several weeks and house it in another tank - the same way Canberra Zoo did with their big cats - which is what gave Dreamworld 'the lair' -
Thanks for thephotos. I went in a little over a week ago to get photos but the showtimes weren't as per the iPhone app, so i missed them. I did hear a lot of trailbike revving so they were obviously rehearsing (or playing) furiously.
