  1. The enthusiast world is measured in towers and giant inflatable bananas.
  2. I think the issue with that is that the person providing the proof probably didn't know the difference. Even mainstream media (people whose entire job it is to write words) get things badly wrong, or 'write how it sounds' with things like "they could of.." instead of "they could have".
  3. I had this problem for ages and no staff could fix it or showed any interest in trying. Finally one cast member told me to delete the app and reinstall it, and it worked - so maybe try that.
  4. Someone gonna tell them it's "Storeys" ? I went along to the launch party on friday night. The park put on some canapes and a few free drinks. Greg made a bit of a speech thanking those involved (and a few in-jokes lost on the general public in attendance) and then they counted down the re-opening by lighting up the letters on the tower. The park also opened up Steel Taipan for those in attendance, probably realising that it would take quite some time to cycle through ~200+ guests with only one GD gondola (west) operating. Night rides on both were awesome, but it highlighted the dreadful navigation in the park right now - arguably the two most thrilling rides in the park are isolated down what are effectively two thrill ride dead-ends, both of which require you come all the way back to main street to switch between the two. Now that GD has reopened, i'd like to see them prioritise some sort of path connection between Taipan and GD - even if it's just the pathway down behind first aid and the ice cream shop - it'd still bring those two attractions a little closer together. The park has put a nice chill space in the shadow of the GD - some astroturf and a few cushioned seats - something needed in this area for non riders to wait comfortably. Overall, the ride station looks fresh and the colour scheme looks good. The queue itself is a little underwhelming, with only the sign on the wall as shown above. The plain walls and nothing else to occupy riders for what is likely to be a one-gondola operation most times makes me worry for the gyprock walls and how quickly they'll get carved up by bored teens. It was suggested that there is more to come for this area - and I hope that whatever has delayed this from arriving prior to the relaunch arrives soon. IMG_9593.mov
  5. I got a close up look at this over the weekend and that brown in person looks surprisingly good. Really gives the feel of a 'treetops' and the props to go on top based on the concept art will really top it off nicely. I got a look through the fence to this area while I was there, and there are a number of markers on the ground that have recently each had four bolt holes drilled, in what looks to me the mountings for the ferris wheel, so i'd say this is the intended new home, which will also close off this dead zone area between the family centre and ball pit.
  6. Bounty's stood at the top of the hill down to Goldrush, and was raised up over the Lake on the other side. It was also at the top of the hill from the entrance, so it really towered over it's surrounding areas - the designers of Wonderland really placed rides in a thoughtful way for maximum impact. The placement in sunway on the side of a slope, being surrounded by trees on all sides - some of which are taller than it, and the surrounding pathways are higher than the footings of the ride - all serve to dwarf the attraction, which is a bit sad given it was a literal 'flag ship' for it's former home. The Intamin Looping Starship is what Doomsday should have been - and I wish these were still in production today - they were such a fun ride, properly done.
  7. Best you speak quietly on these matters lest you awaken the wrath of Joz. Seriously though - travelling \ carnival \ trailered attractions do not belong at Movie World. Full Stop. I think a top scan is probably more intense than even the twin hammer. I don't think it would be a good fit for MW - they need an attraction with a lower bar to entry to appeal to a wider swath of park guests. Doomsday's length is not even 35 metres. Your drawing doesn't allow for the fact that showcase has a fire exit pathway right behind the ride - you can't block it with an attraction, and extending further towards HWSD arena you start to cause other issues with traffic flow. While it technically can "fit" in there, the reality and practicality of fitting it in there means it can't actually fit. The attraction is also quite forbidding - it has a high height requirement, the comfort collars suck ass, and it's cycle capacity is half of what Doomsday was originally quoted to do. I've ridden Electric Eel in San Diego, and while it was an attraction I enjoyed, I was the only person in my group who even wanted to give it a go. On the station, there were many people bailing out last minute - including after being seated. It's cool and all, but it's absolutely the wrong choice as a replacement for Doomsday. I was going to say this also - something like the Sky Rocket would suit Sea World (though I suppose that's coloured with my having ridden one at another SeaWorld) - but the more I think about it, I don't think our Sea World has a spot on the lineup for that. We've already got one polarising extreme attraction with Vortex, and with an attraction lineup as short as SW's is, i'm not sure that this is the right fit for the park either...?
  8. The same layout, and same soundtracks? Major difference in the two is that the load station is downsized - though the Hyperspace Mountain overlay has now been made permanent so the addition of star wars elements makes up for this IMO. Yeah, 2012 you're probably right, the park was a flop at opening and the expansions you mention is Disney's recognition of this. Mystic, in my opinion, is possibly one of the best dark rides Disney has ever done. Though M&M RR is newer, having experienced both, I think I enjoyed Mystic far more with much more practical sets and less reliance on projection. Grizzly has it's own place too as a 'different' option to big thunder. Throw in Toy Story and the park is more fully fleshed out. Now with Iron Man, and soon to be Arendelle - it's definitely punching above its weight and is being underestimated (even given the loss of Autopia). I saw the park in 2010 and 2015, so saw the before and after. 2010 was still enjoyable, but 2015 it was beating OP hands down. I think @Gazza would have made it to HKDL while he was there, so no doubt another TR is coming and we'll find out what he thought of it in its current state of comparison.
  9. The castle is a holdover from a simpler time when things were built in house. there is a wooden walkway that goes all the way around the eastern side of the castle that got closed off a few years back - presumably because it was starting to fall apart. With that, the cessation of the 3d theatre, the closure of the flume and the removal of the skyway, the entire zone is completely dead. Whatever the plan is, I hope that the next time it's SW's turn for development they plan something fully fleshed out for the area (ala Atlantis) and don't just bulldoze a flat pad wherever it fits for an off the shelf flat...
  10. Yeah the South Island Line has really changed getting to the park. I visited in 2010 and 2015 and both times required a bus from Causeway bay through the Aberdeen tunnel, and the bus still dropped off about a kilometre from the park gate. Agreed it was beautifully smooth in 2015. Hearing about the closures and the roughness (as well as the financial woes) is making me second guess whether to go on my next trip to Hong Kong. It sounds like they might be slipping on maintenance too. Yeah it was. nothing else to say it was great. Pre-covid i'd have answered "it depends on when you visit" as the weekends (friday included) saw a lot of "mainlander" visitors. they would flood the park every weekend and mainlanders are notoriously lacking in manners and etiquette. By the sounds of those who have visited more recently, that isn't so much of an issue anymore - but even on a friday with mainlanders present 1 day is still plenty enough - even with Dragon, Mine Train, Eagle, enterprise, flume and the spaceshot towers open (which by the sounds of things many are no longer) I think this is their biggest issue. I was there in 2010 when they had just started construction on the summit. The south end of the park, including dragon, mine train, eagle, etc were all very stretched out and lots of construction walls, but it was nice enough. It was exciting to see new stuff coming, but the new stuff all lumped in one area, which seemingly ignored all the older attractions, which in turn lead to a further loss in popularity for those. Rather than the one big expansion I feel like if they'd removed one and replaced one over a decade, the park would still be pretty darn awesome (although covid and the riots are still wildcards that are impossible to quantify) I'm glad you enjoyed the park but its very sad what is becoming of it.
  11. I still reckon surfrider was headed there before the Scooby hit the fan.
  12. I don't know what he did at Movie World, but here's what the coroner said about him: Dreamworld inquest: Chris Deaves lacked knowledge of fatal ride | news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site
  13. Credit where it's due - this is perfectly suited to sea world and still ride generic so can be reused - its a lot better than the green green grass. (damn that's an earwig right now) I still detest this temporary fence system as tacky.
  14. He didn't say it was because of the keyring. I don't know the backstory - because as usual @Dean Barnett doesn't fill in the whole story - but i'm assuming from the context that some senior guy named Tony who is involved in the project (and who knew what colour scheme they were going to change to) had some keyrings produced with the colour scheme and was handing them out to sort of 'drop a hint'.
  15. It is actually. Disagree. Sea World contemplated Gorillas and Hippos. And they already had animal attractions so it's not like sticking a rollercoaster in a waterpark. The mix of attractions at the park already included animals so it's not like just having big cats is that big of a stretch without the interactions. Unfortunately "that's the way we've always done it" isn't a good enough reason to keep doing something that is no longer best practice. Many captive animal facilities around the world have had to change the way humans interact with them. If this has a negative impact on the animal then we must do everything we can to minimise that impact, without compromising the principles behind the non-contact processes themselves. I won't pretend that I know the inner workings and reasons behind what happened here, but the official public line was he was made redundant. Only the park or Patrick could definitively state the specific reasons here.
  16. Thanks for the additional info mate. No doubts about your statement, just that the park hadn't made mention of it - they specifically mentioned sword swing would retire, but were silent on gingy, and i guess we all assumed with a flash new coaster coming into play that it'd be going - since every other attraction in the land had a theme announced - carousel, jungle jam, EFM, even Pandamonium - so in the absence of them on the list, it was fair to assume it was going. I wonder what theme they'll go with...
  17. I haven't seen any pics of this, but from the sounds of it - it sounds like your usual Aussie WH&S requirements due to fall risk.
  18. Not likely to be many waterpark updates over winter... perhaps judgment day will wait until after the september holidays.
  19. I had heard talk Batman would fly the zipline down mainstreet again, but had assumed he'd go over the old stars cafe. This crap has no place on the sidewalk of main street and just smacks of being lazy. They could have themed it to look like the building was undergoing works... it's not like that's a new idea...
  20. Honestly the footprints required for either of these don't really make it too difficult to find them a home. It's difficult without knowing exactly how the new BRB ride will fit in, but here's a rough cut of the envelope for the ferris wheel and a bunch of places it could "probably" fit. (Bear in mind i've drawn around the entire footprint where it sits which has a platform over the murrisippi - chances are the area behind the mast could be reduced to fit in odd areas, so this is the maximum space the ride requires, so tight fits aren't necessarily an issue)
  21. I mean, they're building a new BRB ride, so hopefully the theme can be suitably reconfigured. Rock'n'tug style attractions are good for the younger demo, but IMO that particular version is so restrictive and difficult to load, i'd wish they'd have just gotten rid of it.
