Luna park 9 new rides construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Last time I checked they do this deal where you give them $199 and they give you one. -
WhiteWater World - Ongoing Maintenance
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to DaptoFunlandGuy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The slides caused an injury which shouldn't have happened. The fact its been closed this long points to either a fight between WWW and Polin, or a redesign of the slides involved. Either way that takes a while to sort out. -
Given the trains and track designs are pretty much identical - how long before someone notices a 'rattle' ? 🤣

Weight restriction Gold Coast theme parks
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Megan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Perhaps you just need to be more observant? It was even on the Dreamworld website in March 2020 - Prior to the pandemic closures: (this is the most recent wayback machine update after the ride opened). -
Weight restriction Gold Coast theme parks
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Megan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Can confirm SV has had a weight limit on it's signage since opening day. I have not ever seen anyone being asked to stand on scales though. -
I'm gonna buck the trend and say I think all this is better than what they had. It could be better, but this is overall an improvement. My guess is the blank wall is 'display space' that will be filled in the future. I would hazard a guess a large lego model would sit there with an appropriate background wall art, but just isn't ready to go in yet.

This is pretty much WHY they do a 'soft open'. Passholders might be disappointed, but are most likely to have other opportunities to ride later if things go pear shaped. The last thing you want to do is debut on boxing day with capacity crowd and have to shut down on the 27th because something didn't work the way you thought it would.

Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You know, they could just operate the beer taps they've got in Tiger Island. Whatever they served wasn't a bad drop... wasn't it Kirin or something? -
Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Will there be seats? in the shade? Honestly i'm not sure they need another function area. Even if it does take the form of a microbrewery. Even if it's wonderfully themed already... They've already got food service spaces in Tiger Island and Parkway that are almost always shuttered, and a 'conference centre' used sporadically for major events only - and i'm sure that it would take a fair bit to convert the station house into such a facility - i'm positive it would be better spent elsewhere. Dreamworld's ride lineup is currently undersubscribed and new food and beverage or function areas are not and should not be a priority. -
I do get a 'funny or die' Warburton Coaster video vibe from this, but falling short of the mark. It's a decent effort, and while not necessarily the same level, its similar enough to the Sky Voyager video to compliment both nicely. Now they need to commission similar videos across the park for all their majors and it will really fit the show.

Despite my aversion to polls on the forums - i feel as though this thread (spelled correctly) would benefit from a poll either 'would you pay' or 'how much would you pay'... much like DC Rivals i'd pay it at least once in the early visits, again whenever i was riding with a first time rider for their experience, and any time i'm dropping in quickly, and the queue is too long.

Non-Vaccinated Banned From Theme Parks
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
In my opinion, combatting the misinformation about first the virus, and then the vaccine is an even bigger battle than the virus itself. I personally find it appalling that someone would actively choose not to be vaccinated but I respect their choice to do so - however I can’t stand idly by while someone spouts baseless and unsupported “alternative facts” without challenge. They may have chosen not to, but to allow them to spread misinformation and make broad generalised statements that potentially instil doubt into others because they don’t know any better is wrong and should not go unchecked without rebuttal. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. -
loser on the podium still gets paid. i'm fine with that.

Announced today? Imma claim silver medal for picking the announcement date. haha.
-
is that a hint though or is it just emphasis because some view the trains as being the only thing at the park that matters?

I guess it depends on if you're talking about home show \ motor show \ comic-con style conventions, where you just want a big empty box for stall holders to set up their own products the way they want them, or the smaller style 'corporate convention' where a company gathers their top people together for some kool-aid and kum-bay-yah team building activities. Given he's quoted as it being for 1000 people, not 10,000 people, my guess is it's the latter. Think of it more akin to hotel banquet halls (school formals, corporate AGMs) with associated breakout spaces and team-building areas.

Did someone get lazy with the path builder? Paths to nowhere? Curiously, a complete absence of the Lego logo on the store re-ignites conspiracies about the store... FInally the absence of Flowrider near Gold Coaster's entrance makes it look like part of the map is missing.

VRTP Online Merchandise Store
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Park Addict 93's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Did somebody over-estimate the amount of 50th anniversary merch they would sell during a pandemic? -
Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yes. They will now use only fresh-from-bunnings maroon corrugated iron everywhere and anywhere they need to cover shit up. -

Surprised this wasn't at least asked - i thought they hand painted those on, rather than just stick-ons... can anyone confirm? -
Leviathan Construction Updates
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
A lot of materials manufacturers have been struggling to keep up with demand. While I can't speak specifically about colourbond and similar, a lot of building and construction suppliers have reduced their available range to avoid having to re-tool their production line - pushing out only a core range in their most popular colours as they can't afford the downtime the changeover would take... At least a white-ish colour is easier to spray over if you decide to paint it. -
***Trigger Warning - self harm and death*** I am a volunteer in the QLD SES. A volunteer however has the same rights to workers compensation as a paid employee - they are deemed an employee for workcover purposes. SES volunteers are sometimes right beside police officers in missing persons, and searches for bodies. The units I have been attached to over the years have been involved in finding the remains of Daniel Morcombe, Alison Baden Clay and many other lesser known deaths, self harm and similar. It is a nature of the job no more or less than a police officer might expect to encounter - although the exposure to trauma is much higher likelihood for Police. I experienced a level of PTSD after a self harm case with a bad ending. All mental health related treatment, time off from my (paid) employment, medication etc was covered by Queensland workcover. I recovered and didn't experience long term impacts, though talking about it does have its effects. If it did impact me long term, I've no doubt I could have pursued compensation and i'm sure that, if I had the psychological evidence to support my claim, i've no doubt the insurer would have paid out. Never for a minute did I contemplate that liability could land with the person's estate, or a corporation connected to the case. Because it is exposure to trauma based on your employment, and it is your employer who is responsible for your safe working environment. This is my own personal opinion. I'm not a lawyer. I would be very keen to understand how Dreamworld would be liable for this injury, when it is his employer and employment that placed him there, not Dreamworld. As for what this (former?) officer is claiming - Every person reacts differently to such trauma. I've attended numerous incidents - even as field commander - and seen some gruesome sights, but that one case just hit me and i still don't know why. I've no doubt his symptoms and condition are legitimate and quite happy to argue anyone who suggests otherwise. That said, Police would attend gruesome traffic accidents and industrial manslaughter cases in factories and on farms with some level of regularity that I struggle to align the Dreamworld incident any differently to any other trauma incident that would place liability on the park. My 2c.
