  1. I don't imagine MW will be too busy, however there is always the weekday busloads of tourists. As for eats - when it's open, my preference is the outlet in the Wild West. Since they updated their menu, it's the only place I like to go (however since it's nearly always closed except on busy days - it means I don't eat in the park as often as i'd use to). TBH those two places are probably the two 'MAJOR' outlets in the park, so if GCC is closed, my expectation would be that the Wild West (Burgers?) outlet would be open.
  2. Some of these puns are such an E. Nygma to me, Oswald as that, i'm getting a little Scarecrow-ed.. I Dent think that theres any sense continuing this Cobblepot, so now that everyone's had their Pennyworth, you should all head home. I hear it's going to be a Dark Knight tonight.
  3. Yes I believe GCC did have a refurb not that long ago (<1year?)... it wouldn't be the first time a refit was found to be 'not up to standard' and needed doing again... Those green temporary fence panels aren't blindfolds - can anyone see aroundoverbeyond them to get an idea of what they're looking at?
  4. And see that's precisely it - if the policy stipulated a certain amount or 'heaviness' of rain, then doing as you describe would have people complaining left right and centre. Chances are they received reports of lightning and decided to play it safe - kudos to MovieWorld. I'm actually wondering - does Sea World have a lightning rod? I know that Wonderland had a lightning rod between Zodiac and Probe to prevent lightning striking either of those two rides - and given Sea World's history - i'm just wondering whether they've taken any steps to protect those two coasters?
  5. And thats the case in point right there - Sea World's biggest January ever - coinciding with the debut of one of their biggest (ride) investments in 20 years. The people don't want laser skirmish. Few people are interested in Shrek these days (Madagascar and KungFuPanda are far more popular of late). Refurbishing rides and updating them (or reversing them) is good to draw regular crowds back to try something different, but if you want to smash it out of the park - you need to drop some serious coin on something more.
  6. Don't forget the Mint Juleps and the Dole Whip... I've seen the Dole stand have a longer queue than some rides! So does Rick's not serve the asian dishes anymore? Mini spring rolls, friend rice etc? See the thing is they need to bring something unique to the park to make it something worth going for. Lamb Tzatziki pizza? *yawn* pretty sure Dominos already did that... Hell - Doritos were INVENTED at Disneyland by Cast Members... they need to allow the chefs a little more flexibility to chop and change the menu and not just provide the best bottom line.
  7. ^increased attendance does not equal increased profits though. If you halve your entry price, of course you're going to increase attendance. That said - you don't have to improve anything or drop your pricing to increase attendance - sometimes the general sheep mentality increases attendance without doing anything...I remember visiting a council operated swimming pool in sydney many years ago. Among it's pools it had a single water slide tower - all of 3 metres high. It opened only when there was a lifeguard to man it (which was irregular at best) and they accepted tokens made out of plastic with the council logo stamped on it which you could buy from the canteen. (Discounts for buying in bulk). I think from memory they were around 40 cents each. In 5 years, the slide never changed, expanded or improved, yet the prices were increased every year (it ended up being about 80 cents a go)- and you'd still guarantee a queue halfway down the (olympic length) pool the moment the lifeguard unlocked the gate and began his 'safety walk' up the pipe to check for the mythical razor blades...
  8. All the parks have advertised disclaimers that some attractions won't operate in inclement weather. I don't think they've gone into any further detail over precisely what that is. And, I think - that is for very good reason. The minute you define exactly what will and won't happen, you open yourself up to issues when you aren't in strict conformity with the above. As i've mentioned recently in another thread, Wonderland's Bush Beast could operate in a decent wind - provided it wasn't in a general western direction as it caused the train to valley or stall. Even calling it a 'wet weather' policy is troublesome. You're not going to operate Batwing with lightning in the area, regardless of whether you get a single drop of rain (pretty much all external attractions really). Scooby will run through anything, and Green lantern can probably operate with a fair bit of rain, so long as the operation of brakes aren't affected. Superman on the other hand would most definitely not run in the rain, purely for the 'stinging pain to the face' sensation you get from an accelerator throwing you face first into the rain. That said, I only ever saw a park-wide "61-Delta" at Wonderland once, and that was one hell of a storm. The simple point of these policies is guest safety, and it would be up to the judgment of the individual operator as to when they felt the safety of guests was at risk. As the person 'pushing the button' they are the ones ultimately responsible if a person is injured as a result of inclement weather. Of course, the park can also make it's own decision or policy to shut down 'sooner' rather than 'later' but either way I think it is best just to accept the park's advice on the situation as and when it occurs, than trying to establish the 'rules' they work by.
  9. Repressed a memory of writing an article for another website which may or may not be operated by you providing tips on surviving a day at a theme park perhaps?
  10. The Parkz Update - Movie World (March 2014) I'd say no.
  11. My uncle flew to Melbourne on Virgin Airlines and four days later he got hit by a bus. Actual connection between both events? Zero. More likely your cousin was still out of sorts many hours later because of a failure to consume enough fluids during a trip to a park (Yes, I'm looking at you, Slick). Dehydration usually makes you more susceptible to headache and migraine pain (*which is exacerbated by head trauma such as from riding Lethal Weapon). Continued dehydration, coupled with heatsun exposure can result in further illness. More likely your cousin's illness was less related to LW and more related to her distraction from being in the park and failing to eatdrink enough and cope well with the weather. Just my opinion.
  12. ^I'm with Joz on all the dislikes. One good thing about the queue is the 'split' queues for Sidecars etc. This is something I've seen other parks do very well where you can choose to queue in 'back' 'middle' or 'front', and it works very well - unfortunately - the separation occurs too far in the queue, resulting in there being very few people in some of the queues, thereby further 'slowing' the queue because every man and his dog wants the 'best' seat, not just 'a' ride. If the queue separation extended to ground level, it would be far more effective. I'm curious now - and wonder what Jet Rescue would have been like without the second launch... I think it'd still be ok, although the final hill down onto the brake run might be a struggle... but I don't think it would be as bad as MDMC as there is very little uphill in the ride.
  13. Well shit... if you're going to go that far, you might as well run year-round?
  14. TBH, Having ridden both Pony Express and MDMC in the past year, I still find MDMC to be totally underwhelming and yawn worthy, whereas PE was quite an enjoyable little coaster. I think it's success lies in the fact that PE isn't marketed as a thrill ride, so you aren't set up for disappointment.
  15. Re: Arkham's leg tightness, in my view, it doesn't actually tighten up until you do hit the brake run - at which point you slide forward against the restraints. I don't notice the tightness until after the train comes to a stop at the brakes.
  16. i guess it first needs to be established - 'what kind of ride' ? Coaster, Spin&Spew, Drop tower... there are many different types for consideration before we can move on Then it's the experience - the forces, the overall story (if any) what you get from entering the queue until you unload and go 'wow' Then the theming - which does also tie in with the 'story' part - but how well it's done or how well it's pulled off.... I think you'd need to be a little more specific for us to give you specifics about a 'good ride' - which of course leads to the last point - Opinion. Everyone has one, not all of them are wrong. For example - many people question why others say a park should build a woodie, when they could buy a steel coaster for the same money. there is a thread on here that goes for hundreds of posts on that very subject, so I won't rehash the reasons now, but suffice to say that those who argue woodies are out of date, aren't as good as a steel coaster or otherwise that the park should not get one are usually proven quite wrong on the issue. On the flip side, some people will argue that traditional flats like an enterprise are crap - but that is often because spin&spew rides don't agree with them, and make them sick - just because they don't enjoy the ride, doesn't mean that others don't. In my personal opinion the inventor of the Zacspin needs to be shot, however i'm sure others love it.... There's no magic formula to a 'good ride'... each has it's own pros and cons and its a good balance of this that makes it just 'work'
  17. Start of sarcasm Yeah - and they should get B&M to do their new Dragon Wagon coaster... End of sarcasm
  18. But VRTP sell a 28 day 3-park pass for $99.99.... and as mentioned previously... The Ultimate Theme Park Pass which is 21 days for $179.99 (but does include MW, SW, WnW, PC and a night at AOS)... So really - each park has: A tourist budget offering A tourist premium offering A local budget offering A local premium offering A single day ticket A short-term combo ticket between multiple gates.... I fail to see where the problem, unfairness or imbalance lies - they all provide a similar level product..... why is this such an issue?
  19. ^no they did that when they ended PASS and built HWSD.
  20. Fixed. Start of sarcasm End of sarcasm
  21. I think that was a Future of Fun survey - it also asked what it should be called, and I think CotD was by far the leading name. I think though that the discussion over on Wild has focused on Wild or a Wild substitute, rather than just 'anything' that you could put in there. Personally, I'd like to see them dredge that area to make a nice lake that they could develop some kind of ski-stunt show - motorboats, explosions, different types of skis - single, double, wake boards, sit-down skis... they could even try a grand finale stunt like a ski-pyramid... that'd be something cool and unique that you can't see anywhere else... like on Foxtel... A nice idea - personally I think SW needs more external flats (MW does too). We all carry on about wanting Disney-esque attractions, but nobody pays attention to the fact that Disney parks have attractions like Dumbo, King-Arthur's Carousel, Rocket Jets, Hell even things like Autopia. For a park the size of Sea World, and taking into account it's animal base, Storm's dark ride component is good. A few different (quality) flats in that area would really round out the park, given that as an adult, you can either ride a rollercoaster, a boat, or both... there are no other experiences unless you're a kid....
  22. Start of sarcasm Nup - isn't true - didn't come from the Dippin' Dots guy. End of sarcasm edit: added tags.
  23. Not so fast Brad - this idea has it's own merit. I think it's clear by the removal of the signage and lack of work suggests the concept as it was may have been put to bed. This discussion isn't talking about wild, but what Sea World will do with that area... i'm all for this discussion, and disagree that the Wild discussions have covered this...
