  1. Are we sure that the ride in question is an offical Zamperla Disk'o? After seeing how many of them that Zamperla has produced, it would be quite odd to see this occur on an offical model. I'm going to take a guess and say it's a knockoff. Not only would it be incredibly bizarre for this to happen on an offical model, it also looks like it belongs in the uncanny valley.
  2. Has anyone experienced some of Lynton's non-horror based walkthroughs? If this project does go ahead, I'm a little intrigued on how they will balance comedy and horror. In a film it can work quite easily, such as Zombieland and Gremlins, but a walkthrough seems a little bit harder for them to get the right balance. I feel like it's either not going to be thrilling enough, or the comedy will be lost. At least that's my two cents, as someone who's only experienced scared-based walkthroughs.
  3. @Slick @reanimated35 So from what I've read, clickbait articles such as the one from Austereo about the Log Ride exist as a method to make a quick buck by exploiting the psychology behind human curiosity, rather than publishing an article with actual journalistic integrity? You'll have to excuse me if I'm not too well informed on this area. It's not something that I really research that much, if at all.
  4. Just got a message from a friend telling my about how the log ride is going to be close forever because they read a headline on Facebook. The real kicker here is that they mentioned they didn't even read the article. Can't say I'm too impressed. I find the way they write these articles so stupid. There's plenty of sensationalism, and just downright mis-information. Why on Earth would you make the headline "...Closes for Good" when you known damn well, and even report about, how it's going to be an indefinite closure? I'm certain that a major media outlet in Australia wouldn't just dump the responsibility of writing articles for a kid in work experience. Also, I really want to now see a resume where someone has "Hella mad skillz at blogging, yo" and actually gained proper employment in the field.
  5. Finally got around to watching this small documentary from a fellow Aussie about coasters. It was really enjoyable to watch, and I'm a little surprised how there were so many emotional moments relating back to theme parks and coasters.
  6. It looks like a Mack Sea Storm. I know there is one at Chessington World of Adventures in the UK (aptly titled Sea Storm), however, I believe all the others are travelling in fairs and carnivals. Hope this helps!
  7. Holy crap. Engineering at 16. That is intense. Doing such a full-on course while holding employment is possible. You just have to look in the right places. A 3-hour shift after Uni every night can go a long way in terms of balancing work and studies. Wow! Congrats on the interview! I've attended quite a few sessions and done a lot of research about attending, and it looks like a wonderful experience. It's definitely something I would like to try at one point.
  8. Maybe it could be a bit of a maturity thing. Santa mentioned that he was "not old enough to go by himself", so it could just be his parents/guardians not being fully content with the idea of a young person travelling the world solo.
  9. A Killing Joke film could be possible. Just looking at the wild success of the MA15+ Deadpool, or the Netflix adaptation of Jessica Jones, might inspire WB. I would love to see it, but I agree that it needs to be done properly if done at all. As for the Jokers Funhouse, a direct copy from Killing Joke would be way too inappropriate for the park. However, I wouldn't rule out using it as a piece of inspiration.
  10. That second explanatory post has absolutely sold me on your concept, @joz. I just have a couple of ideas that popped into my mind over the past day or so. With the Dark Ride, you could just scrap the idea of it being a shooting dark ride all-together. Although having the ride being interactive would help with the arcade, I just think you would have a hard time finding a concept that both fits Sea World's theme as well as align with their viewpoint on oceanic activism. Maybe it could just be a more elaborate ghost train? Would open up a lot more possibilities... Secondly, you could also turn that small area with Jet Rescue and Serpent's Fury into a themed area based around oceanic and deep-sea exploration (think submarines, underwater bases, etc.). I just think that could look a lot better than just slapping on a generic name and calling it a day. Finally, you mentioned you learnt 3D Modelling while doing this project. Out of curiosity, what program did you use? Blender? Trimble Sketchup?
  11. Ok, I can now see why I would be considered a fail. I just got caught up with what's going on with my life that I forget about everyone else. I wonder why they only chose Saturday's. There has to be a method behind their madness
  12. How is that a fail? I would have loved to see them do Friday night sessions, but I certainly don't see it as a failure, just a missed oppurtunity.
  13. Holy crap @joz. I wasn't expecting to wake up and see something of this calibre on the forums. Out of curiosity, how long did that take you from concept to execution? It's so well thought out and planned that I'm honestly a little stunned.
  14. So it's basically an oxymoron? It attracts guest from far and wide but "looks too intense for me"? If we are actually discussing whether or not GD will close, I think it's too much of a visual icon for it to suddenly drop from the park's lineup. A ride such as the Wipeout or Batman Adventure could be removed with very little fanfare as those rides are relatively secluded and hidden. With GD, they just can't gutter the building and call it a day; it's going to take a lot of effort to be removed.
  15. I don't think the Log Ride needs removal; it just needs a refurbishment. I hardly ride it anymore just because it doesn't hold my interest like many other rides (such as Wild West Falls). Now, I'm not trying to insinuate that it needs a steeper drop and backwards elements, but I just think that if they put some thought into how to make every single millimetre of the ride an entertaining experience then they'll be onto a winner.
  16. Maybe it's just me not being too knowledgable on the subject matter, but isn't the time frame given for annual maintenance a bit excessive for just a repaint?
  17. Out of curiosity, do we know if the extended periods of maintenance for Superman Escape are caused by this new development? Going down for a total of 70+ days seems quite odd, and the only reasoning I think could be behind it was to help make the construction of Doomsday Destroyer a bit easier. Yet, that seems quite unlikely considering the new development can be accessed by ways that don't interfere with SE.
  18. My thoughts about the soundtrack are that while it fits the theme and does its job, it could be done better. Freestyler fits the theme and provides a soundtrack that mimics most of the rides characteristics, but I just think better choices could have been made. It's not a perfect choice by any means but it's definitely not a horrid addition. If the choice was for Freestyler or no on-board soundtrack at all, I would be jumping with enthusiasm for Freestyler When I was riding HWSW, the track "dropped" as the last car crested the lift hill. The intro does go for quite a while, which I believe has been extended for the ride (unless there is some variation in production with a longer runtime that I'm unaware of). I personally didn't notice anything to give the impression that "choose your own song" would be added. Seeing a touchpad based system akin to Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit would be a bit out of reach IMHO, but a similar system to Hollywood Dream at USJ doesn't seem impossible.
  19. See, I have a love/hate relationship with that feeling of impending doom. I would probably describe my biggest fear as being a fear of falling, so the Giant Drop and the Aqualoop scare me the most and give me an intense feeling of impending doom, yet I feel perfectly safe (which is why I find myself riding them over and over again). Buzzsaw, on the other hand, I don't find enjoyable just because I don't feel safe in the slightest. From the looks of it, Doomsday isn't going to provide that feeling of impending doom. Whether that's good or bad is up to personal preference.
  20. I'm pretty sure that picture is of Pandemonium at Dryaton Manor, which is not an Intamin Model. From all I've seen of the Intamin Twin Hammer, it looks like we'll be getting OTSR's. I feel like that bar on Pandemonium is redundant and quite bulky, but I think it would help some feel a bit more at ease with an inverted ride. I know that when I ride GL or Buzzsaw I feel quite uneasy with just a lap bar, yet I feel perfectly safe on a ride like the Wipeout, with its multitude of restraint systems.
  21. To be honest, what do we expect from the media? I personally don't expect the Gold Coast Bulletin to write "Movie World gets brand new Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer". Circles? Why not monstrous loops? Honestly, after some thought, I think I'm a little bit excited for this themed area. While I am disappointed that so much of the physical area of the park is going to be themed after DC, I coming to terms with it and I'm slowly thinking that they're going to absolutely nail it. On that note, do we have any clue how they are actually going to theme this ride, if at all? If we just get a Twin Hammer plonked in the middle of the park I'll be disappointed, but if we get something to a similar standard to the Wipeout then I'll be very happy.
  22. I'm simultaneously disappointed yet not exactly surprised by this move. I guess we can only hope that they do this new land to the best of their ability, otherwise, I'm going to lose a lot of faith in VRTP
