  1. Dominos is no more and instead the same as SW’s pizza place The waterfall in Calpyso Beach hasn’t been replaced and still remains as a steel structure Surfrider is looking good with its recent repaint Aqualoop is under maintenance Despite closing for good the buggy’s frack and buildings still remain Mach 5 has no visible changes Black hole has its roof missing now too
  2. I definitely don’t think a wooden coaster would be a selling. The majority of the general public have probably never even heard of that concept, so if we got one, it probably wouldn’t attract visitors, it would scare them off. A lot of people are already scared of the parks after what’s happened in recent times, so there is no need to scare them anymore. And honestly, most people on here say they want one, but I’d much rather a steel coaster over a wooden coaster.
  3. What the heck, I’ll go down to Bunnings and buy them and install it for them
  4. That’s great to hear for Sea Jellies. While the jellies themselves are illuminated well, the rest of the buildings lower level isn’t lit well at all. You can only just make out what signs say, and is easy to bump into someone. Awesome to hear about a possible coaster coming in 2020 too. But it seems the family attraction replacing VR might be on hold. I do hope they at least remove the flume section next year (possibly during Storms maintenance).
  5. SW without a carpark is actually a terrible idea. If they just developed the grassed area south of it, that would be a good idea, otherwise, not a fan.
  6. The repainting of the Hydrocoaster is well underway, and you can really tell how badly faded it had become. Hopefully they continue the repainting of all the slides over the next year or so
  7. Just driven past and it looks so much better painted, and next to the faded horribleness it has become, it shows had bad it really is. Hopefully it continues across all the slides, and they are cleaned up internally
  8. That hasn’t even been in the park for over 7 years now, that is so piss poor DW
  9. The website is now live SDSC isn’t listed as a ride that will be open, but it will be reopening on December 10, so it will only miss the first night. Interesting to see if it does operate. Or maybe it’s strategic to try and get people to come during the day to try it out
  10. Maybe all the work that’s been happening within the area of COTD is related to this. When I visited the other days a lot of the paths had been pulled up, and rollers were being used to flatten out some of the paths (this was alongside the Dolphin Nursery), and looking at this satellite image, I think could definitely be related. The light house will be where the ride is located, and the garden north of it would be where the queue and entrance is They could also keep the COTD there, and the ride could fit into that theme. Some animatronics will have to go or be moved, but I think it could work really well and be a great asset to the park. And I can imagine how awesome the views would be. I do hope this isn’t the only attraction they are planning and they are still going ahead with the Vikings Revenge replacement too
  11. The height of it will definitely determine whether it is a kids ride or thrill ride. I think anything over 30m would be great, but I can’t see it being too much taller than that due to the height regulations. It was okay for the Eye to be because it was only temporary
  12. I love this event, but I really hope they change up the Parade this year. With all the financial issues they’ve had, I doubt they will invest in new floats, but it’s pretty much been the same parade every year since it started and it’s time for a new one. And hopefully they don’t have any characters on the floats with poles up their ass rather than getting someone inside it
  13. But I don’t want to put myself in the boots as those people who put roofs on the log ride, no other theme park in the world has put those boots on, so I’m definitely not. But basically what you are saying is the park doesn’t have a big enough crowd to run it’s rides fully. That’s a crap excuse really.
  14. When I was there today, the one on the ship isn’t there and hasn’t been for at least a year. Obviously the one in the queue is different, but that is new
  15. I just remembered that the SE shop already did have it installed in the corner, so either they are extending it and removing the shop aspect entirely.
  16. They’ve had to go with the classic VRTP move and put an A frame out because people were entering through the shop and not the actual entry Inside they’ve also put a barrier up so people don’t take the wrong turn when walking through
  17. If you are wondering where the propellor on the ship of Storm Coaster has gone, its now here COTD is still closed, but it’s because the walkways are being redone
  18. Exterior of the disco room is getting work done. It seems like they’ve slightly moved the wall out. Possibly to allow for projection mapping to be installed
  19. and so the changes begin The change has also been made to the JR at SW
  20. I definitely appreciate all the efforts and work the park and staff put into this event, but when you know how amazing it has been in the past, it is a bit hard to not be disappointed. Yes I enjoyed my night there and got a couple scares, but I wouldn’t want to go back for a second time. While in previous years (2014 and 2015) I definitely would have. The event was much cheaper and bigger back then, and now we have less for a greater price.
  21. Key points from the report have been highlighted: FY2018 was an important and necessary transition and reset year for Village Roadshow Theme Parks (“VRTP”) with a new ticketing strategy implemented in December 2017, shifting VRTP from a discounted volume based business to a higher yielding value based operation. VRTP delivered an FY2018 EBITDA result of $38.3 million, compared to $55.9 million in the prior year. With the removal of the discount resellers from the market effective 30 June 2018, overall ticket sales revenue is expected to continue to increase. There is a strong indication that the Gold Coast Theme Parks have returned to a positive trajectory, as evidenced by the best month of July on record in terms of ticket sales, followed by strong trading in August. This recovery is expected to gain further momentum in the year ending 30 June 2019 (“FY2019”) assisted by Topgolf, which launched successfully in June 2018, a new creative marketing campaign and the addition of lower cost new attractions to enhance guest appeal. A number of projects were completed during the current year, enhancing the guest experience. These included the birth and arrival of the new Polar Bear Cub Mishka, the new splash zone, Castaway Bay – The Reef, a new seal show and new Nickelodeon product, Paw Patrol. In September 2017 the Southern Hemisphere’s largest HyperCoaster opened at Warner Bros. Movie World. The DC Rivals HyperCoaster is the LONGEST, FASTEST and HIGHEST in the Southern Hemisphere and has been a strong drawcard to driving ticket sales. Sea World Resort had a strong year and performed well above the prior year, with its conference centre continuing to outperform expectations. VRTP’s special events performed strongly in FY2018 with Carnivale at Sea World outperforming expectations with its new Light Laser Show, and Fright Nights and White Christmas at Warner Bros. Movie World delivering record results. Supporting the Gold Coast parks was the ongoing strong performance by Paradise Country, which delivered a result in line with the prior year and Village Roadshow Studios, which continued its successful run with the completion of Aquaman, its usage during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and the commencement of filming of Dora the Explorer. A new TV marketing campaign featuring Sally Pearson launched in June 2018, aimed at engaging the core Gold Coast market and showcasing the enhanced customer value to VRTP guests and annual pass holders as part of VRTP’s customer-led focus.
