  1. Have you seen the options though? As for the deli, its literally 8 paces to the plaza area where there are picnic style tables and chairs everywhere. If thats not enough, theres tables and chairs behind the deli and ben and jerrys too. You dont need a food outlet at arkham. Theres not enough foot traffic to warrant it.
  2. Its a pitty we havent seen any further developments of the lakeside precinct idea. It could have meant a few new food choices that could be open during lunch service too without added pressure on the park to staff another eatery. The other school of thought is you dont need a lot of choice at a theme park (especially the size of aussie parks), you just need to do it right. Everyone expects a fast food option. Given the cost and the relatively small serving size (overloaded with chips to make up for it) theres no reason to get burgers and fries, fish and chips, and chicken tenders/strips and fries wrong. I suspect its fallen into the trap of every single ingredient being processed. No fresh or prepared ingredients, its all out of packets, fridges and freezers. The cafe crowd. Its one thing thats actually pretty good at the village bean. Im not a coffee snob, but ive been happy with what is provided and a slice of cake or muffin. The healthy choice. These days you cannot operate any food related business without catering to meet these demands. The poor quality of your other choices is only amplified when this is neglected. Every village park falls flat. The boutique. They have dirty harrys extension which probably doesnt get the business it deserves. You can probably only sustain one of these in a park the size of movieworld though. It makes sense they went with the mexican/tex mex options as theres lots of profit in it. Because of the size of the park, this ties into below; Rics is a let down. No, its more than that, its really a disaster when you think what it could be. Everything it offers could be provided anywhere in the park, and what it offers is not that great. So here you have a themed international class restaurant pushing out greasy pizzas and stodgy pasta. It should probably be the premium dining service and bar. Push the rics setting more as a bar experience and use the legends dining room for food service. Nobody really needs all you can eat pizza and pasta at a theme park. Pizza hut nearly went broke doing it 20 years ago, why is it here? Im thinking you could have a set menu giving you maybe 3 or 4 options that you could purchase with your entry. So you have a proper sit down lunch with a fixed cost. If thats not exciting enough, you could tie it in with some sort of executive "celebrity" chef menu if you wanted something exclusive. Rotate it though every 3 months so the menu is always fresh. It might free up some of the kitchens a little to help improve some of the other food options in the park instead of relying on outside providers to do all the work. When you think about it, theres 2 full commerical kitchens plus maybe 6 quick service/fast food sized kitchens in the park. Does the current output represent the facilities they have on site? Everything feels far too packaged to me, kitchens just sitting idle or closed up.
  3. I liked when they tried some new food options at the deli, the american style sandwiches. They were pretty tasty, big serving and well priced. I thought they would continue expanding, a few different gourmet style salads would have been awesome. But it all seems to have been shelved. Not sure if they didnt sell or just didnt give it enough time. Its a pitty because gotham is utterly rubbish. Once upon a time their burgers were pretty juicy and certainly tasty. Ive had 2 in the last year and both times im sure the bun was stale. It reminds me, remember when they did pulled pork burgers with "slaw" and lattice fries at west burgers? Those things and the loaded fries tasted amazing. I dont mind paying 15-20 for a burger and a fries if its like that. Full of flavour, very filling, not what you expected at a theme park.
  4. It also matters if they have staff for a second train too.
  5. Need to point out its not village theme parks doing the reporting, its roadshow. So that includes all the other divisions too (cinema chain, distribution, production, etc). Theme parks are never going to claw back 15-20 million in a year when the film production and distributor side has been slow since the last big development (aqua man?).
  6. What a stinker... Also.. hahahahahahah @ plush turds.
  7. Why dont you? The complaints are pretty spot on. They started doing some restorative works a few years ago, what with facade work and new toilet blocks and stuff, but thats all stopped instead of continuing. So it does look run down. The kids area is a joke compared to every other park, in perhaps australia. Old fair style rides, nothing for kids that arent tall enough or brave enough for the thrill rides. Its in desperate need of renovation and seems to be overlooked every year.
  8. ha ha! (see what I did there) If you search arkham alley or chinatown alley, you'll find it has a long history of discussion on these forums. It's always been there, it's just some (or all 3) ends of the alleyway have been cut off from use at various points over the years. The big double gates that are against the emergency exit from superman (just as you turn to the right to go to arkham) hide more of the alleyway that used to provide through access for lethal weapon from main st. If we lived in a country where the parks had major budgets, it would be ripe for a proper theme. Something like a proper gotham feeling alleyway would be cool, or you could put a roof over it and theme it as part of inside arkham itself. Some cells, maybe treatment rooms, etc, since I guess you are kinda coming in the back way not the front gates. If arkham was their new flagship coaster, it could have been an excellent scare zone / queue line. Progress from being ushered through by a greeter / sorter that looked like asylum staff trying to get you out of the grounds, before you turn the "wrong" corner and the inmates in the orange jumpsuits have taken over.
  9. It's been gone for awhile, since they changed the show to high country legends. It would have to be more than 12 months.
  10. If they close for retheming, we've all pretty much agreed its going to take months. You could pick out any date between now and maybe July or august as a start date at the latest. That's if it's even going to be done this year. Mid year is looking pretty full, superman and Arkham would take you through until July. Bit of a break until Doomsday at the end of august, then hypercoaster will turn 1 year old in September. So you could guess that somewhere right around the end of June is a good time to close, not to be done by.
  11. More like rebuild the bogies, get them ready before the shutdown, then disassemble the train and rebuild the hangers to mount to the newly rebuilt bogies. It would cut a lot of time out of the ride closure period for annual maintenance.
  12. Theres no seats because they only purchased enough parts with the refit from kumbak to make one train. Its just the spare wheel carriers sitting in there. Same ones we normally have this same discussion about every year someone sees them while its down for maintenance. Anyone thinking they are going to have or will have purchased another set of hangers and seats for a second train are in for dissapointment. If you ever see a train in the maintenance bay, its the one off the track. Not a second train, certainly not one stripped for parts. The only things left of use since the refit are those wheel carriers. Anything below that when the ride was still lethal weapon no longer fits now it is arkham asylum.
  13. They were running two trains over the weekend. So either it's a lot quieter than expected, or something did happen during the week to remove it. Were they still running 2 trains at superman and road runner? If its quiet they normally drop back to one on these two, not much point sending virtually empty trains.
  14. I remember when they used to be what looked like ply. Amazons used to have one too.
  15. One pass is the new pass isn't it? https://themeparks.com.au/box-office/village-roadshow-one-pass/locals-offer
  16. Aside from giving much needed shelter from the rain/sun, the main st cover at movieworld really knocked down the visual appeal of the park a few notches.
  17. I would have thought it would almost always be preferable to return vehicles/cars/trains/whatever to the station and let guests disembark in the usual method if it is safe to do so. Your coaster example is extremely flawed. Here's an example; power went out and rivals got stuck and made the news, remember? were the guests evacuated or was the ride restarted and guests exited the ride when the train returned to the station? We don't even have a timeline of events so how do you know what occurred or how it occurred to comment why you think something was unusual or caused the accident.
  18. Its still pirced as "we might as well buy a yearly pass for a bit extra. We only have to come again once in the next 12 months to pay for itself, plus you've got white water world there, the kids will go plenty of times when its hot", or some sort of similar conversation that frequently occurs. I think they actually dropped the price slightly from what it was prior to the accident? I keep thiking they were something like $134.95 before.
  19. It floods because its on a flood plain of the nerang river. None of that has mattered to previous councils who have reduced or changed flood plains for both nerang and coomera rivers, then stood back with hands in the air when people have their yards and houses go under though. Raising the land a few meters to negate everything but the most severe flooding should not be allowed at the expense of getting rid of overflows. It pushes water into areas that were never at risk previously and effectively creates fast flowing creeks that are dangerous to members of the public, but also strip the land bare due to fast flowing currents. Litetally every major suburb with a creek that drains into these rivers and has been opened up for development is guilty of this. It probably started back when they realigned the nerang river at broadbeach. Not much has changed since, other than the number of houses.
  20. A cage or roof like thing on top of those tubes would be a hazard if the tube flips. It could get pinned in any of the under water structures which would drown people. It might have ended with the ride closed because realistically youd want some form of locking harness/restraint, but that spells doom if a tube flipped over too. So it might have been difficult to have someone prepared to pass the ride from an engineering stand point.
  21. Something large enough to warrant repair would cause the ride to be shutdown pretty much immediately. So if its open, i dont think it has outstanding checks/inspections to be made. I cant see it closing when it was commissioned either. Right in line with the september holidays? Likewise, im not sure if there is enough weeks between september and christmas holidays? 3 or 4 weeks in november isnt a big shutdown for a rebuild. Thats more like double that. So id reckon youd be completing as many checks/monitoring as much as you can to keep the ride running through its first year. Even if it means working through the night. Maybe with a shutdown at the end of feb 2019 for maintenance.
  22. How close is the head? The bar looks like its positioned behind the existing upper back pad. Padding on the bar being to stop riders accidentally banging their heads. Say when like climbing a lift and leaning your head back. Fyi. Momentum of guests in the boats pushes the torso forwards away from the bar when hitting the water after the drop. Not backwards. To hit the bar like a whiplash injury you'd need a boat to accelerate suddenly or violently. As they travel due to the flow of water, only instance i can think of is in the event of another boat hitting you from behind with force. Even if that were to happen, in the previous design the head is completely unsupported. So if that was an issue youd be talking more along the lines of brain stem injuries and base fractures not whiplash. Who are in the business of assessing designs, builds and implementations for issues of safety; who also have the power not to fine you considerable amounts of money, but also close your entire site down. So you speak like this is even a consideration. Make NO mistake. A government inspector will do all the above if you ignore them. For smaller issues theyll usually give you verbal notice or suggestions to fix any issue they have found. Theyll come back in maybe a week or two and see if its complete to their satisfaction. If it is, no issue. All good. If not theyll give you a written notice and a deadline. If you ignore it, action will be taken and theyll likely shut you or part of your site down until they can inspect, make reccomendations and have you repair them. They want to work with you more than punish you. But if youre attitude is rubbish and you ignore them or the safety issues; theyll ream you so hard you wont be able to sit down for a year. So. I asked this before. Open? Closed? Want to ride or have it closed? You arent exactly kissing the ground they walk on, but appeasing government regulators is exactly what you do. You have no choice in the matter if you want the doors to remain open.
  23. Thats not how it works. Obviously you would go back to who made your ride when looking to make changes. If they arent available, youd look to engage a registered engineer to aid in the design/implementation and sign off on the modifications as "safe" or "fit for use". It happens in construction much the same. If the original party cannot be retained when planning changes or modifications, theres a company with a registered engineer thats prepared to put it all on the line and sign off on the project. Theres no chance in hell they would modify something on their own without some process. One; you guys are kinda expecting teams of designers and engineers are readily employed by the park, along with the equipment/machinery to design and manufacture the components. It would end up having to be farmed out. Two; it means they accept all responsibility and are 100% liable. Given what has happened, the government inspectors would hang them without a registered engineer being engaged in the process. Even if they ultimately deemed the modification safe.
