  1. They take your word for it, like they have been in public. A mate was stopped in town, asking what he was doing. Answered grabbed a coffee, heading back to the office. Off he went to the office. Should have been a bit clearer on the register, I meant at the gate, not at the rides. The risk is really low, and should be lower again by July. I will be interested to see how they handle it, as we'll need to apply some procedures for a similar situation.
  2. You don't have to socially distance yourself from your own family members. So you can get more than one person per car. Restaurants are having to take a guest list, so I'd expect that to be part of the process, so if someone is sick, they can identify everyone that was there that day.
  3. Thanks @AlexB. I, and obviously others, where under the impression it was to be another parks coaster, and it would have to be shoe horned to fit Dreamworld, like Cyclone was (although that was second hand). Good to know its actually built to suit the site, rather than the site built to suit it.
  4. Now is also a perfect time to fix up all the little things that may not cost much, but take time and haven't been a priority due to the 7 day a week nature of the business.
  5. And ultimately they don't want every ride needing annual maintenance all at the same time next year, because they did them all at once this year.
  6. People in general? Have friends/family leave it at the door, or call 13Health and they can arrange a delivery.
  7. https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/sales-delivery/non-delivery-of-products-services#failure-to-supply-a-product-or-service Suggests that they shouldn't be taking the money. Gyms are in the same boat right now. Our kids swim school tried this trick over Christmas "we'll take your money, and give you make up lessons for the lessons that aren't operating over Christmas". One of the mum's researched, rang them up, next week we all got forms to apply for the hold to be made.
  8. Genuinely serious questions. How many Steam Locomotive Boiler qualified inspectors do you know of active in Qld? How many Steam Boiler qualified inspectors do you know of, active in Qld? My understanding is that the boilers say in a hospital (if there are any left), are under different rules to locomotives.
  9. QR had a boiler inspector, he sadly passed away last year. Right now, QR heritage is being left to rot. There have been no "Steam Train Sunday's" this year, and likely not to be. The only steam trips have been AHRS Qld hires of QR's trains. QR only has one operational loco at Ipswich, to my knowledge. The C16 is still at Gympie, the AC16 Yank is in need of repair. BB18 1/4 1089 is operational, BB18 1/4 1079 might be (unsure). The Blue Baby DD17 project has been stopped, even though it was almost finished being restored, with a new welded boiler.
  10. There are two people in Queensland. The one Dreamworld has used before, and another. There are three steps to certify after a major rebuild. Pressure test with cold water. Smoke leak test with a fire in the firebox, but no water in the boiler. Hot pressure test with water in the boiler and a fire in the firebox. You are looking at around $5k per step to sign off. So $15k. Keep in mind, a steam boiler is a vessel containing water under extreme pressure and heat. So no cutting corners. The green QR Loco's (BB18 1/4) operate at 170 psi, so the boiling point of the water inside is 187 degrees celcius. The water would be hotter than that, to generate the steam required. The ex Dreamworld Perry should be back on track, hopefully later this year or early next year. The Baldwin's condition varies depending on who you ask.
  11. The above (I think) also requires a grouper, and two staff on loading. As well as someone in the control room. Was there much of a crowd? What can happen is they forecast a crowd, but they don't get one. To remove the second train takes too long, so they just persist with the two trains, slowly. One day when I was there, Superman was running two trains, and the staff where on the ball. The train heading off to launch was having to slow and wait for the winch to be ready at the "it's superman" stage.
  12. The loaded train should be ready to go, when the second returns. There is no mid course brake run, so the loaded train can't depart the station until the second train is into the brakes. There should be minimal time in the sun, but depends on the crew and direction from management. Faster turn around's mean more wear and power consumption. The chain drive motor must use some serious power.
  13. But it is in 'go away green' and close to guests. The grey building at Sea World either isn't finished yet, or my two year old has started a career in building painting.
  14. A dozen things could have been changed, any one of which could have stopped this incident. But none of those were implemented.
  15. I think you are about to get pulled up on that. The wheels and bearings will be changed regularly, and the trains aren't that old from memory. The track is from the days of hand calculated curves and older engineering techniques. So won't be as perfect in it's shape. Throw in years of existence and having several tonne of train flying around and it will be even less perfect. These days it's all CAD and laser measuring.
  16. Someone suggested contractors pulling out might have been the cause, and thus it was assumed it was. Since then everyone ran with it as being fact.
  17. If there was only two brands of car in the world, I'd go Holden. But never owned one. Got a Ford and a Yamaha in the garage and a Suzuki work car. Previously had Mazda, Toyota, Renault (Nissan), Kawasaki and Mitsubishi.
  18. Green Lantern nearly killed people. The manufacturer got their engineering wrong, and MW didn't pick up on the fatigue during regular checking. RHRR was engineered/re-engineered wrong, and DM didn't identify/ignored the risks. And it did kill people. @Levithian has a preference for DM kids, you don't. There's your Holden v Ford similarity. People are entitled to their opinions, wrong or right. Unless it's TPR apparently (not on there). Let's not turn into the Australian version of that.
  19. Always been like that on this forum. It's a bit like Holden vs Ford, people are passionate about their preferred brand (and some have been/are on the payroll for one or the other).
  20. Both the coaster station building and the spiral building have the potential to be re-purposed as slide towers.
  21. Ignoring the ride is their way, DCR didn't exist even with track on site.
  22. The electromagnets would be of some value I'd expect, as well as the substantial amount of copper wiring.
