  1. Ideally they'd be removing the Rapid Ride then, but let's face it, how long has Blue Lagoon been left their to rot without as much as hammer swung or shovel sunk, and let's not forget the Mine Ride. I know it's still early days (months/nearly a year) but I don't foresee the Rapid Ride being removed anytime soon if previous inaction is anything to go by. Still, happy to be proven wrong.
  2. I'm hoping the people in charge of Dreamworld (as opposed to the shareholders who only stare at the bottom line) have a greater plan for the park going forward, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years from now should all be roughly mapped out and if it isn't well then maybe I'm just an idealist who likes to think way too far ahead. Simply put there's two ways for the park to go if it wants to survive, either go full on theme park, ala Disney on a budget, emphasising experiences over thrills, or diametrically go full Six Flags/Cedar Fair and just pack as many high intensity attractions and coasters in as possible to deliver value for money and competition for what Movie World is/will be providing.
  3. Big metal skull might make the general public think it's knocking off the Tower of Terror (II).
  4. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I do like this quite a lot, it reminds me of the TV show Black Mirror. Of course it's actually just an artistic copy of the Euthanasia coaster, and speaking from a coaster fanatics perspective the ride he's riding is nothing at all like the aforementioned, but still I enjoyed the video (but then again I do enjoy pretentious bullshit.)
  5. Facebook news is a repository for embellished wankered nonsense, at least for me I can say with some certainty. But does anyone else feel a little bit sorry for Deborah Thomas (ex-CEO of Ardent Leisure at the time of the Dreamworld Incident) being maligned by the media for essentially doing her job til her job was made impossible? I don't agree and will never agree with the exorbitant golden parachutes CEO's and likewise garner upon their exit from a company, but this article feels like its blaming her for deaths out of her control and thus profiting from said deaths all for the sake of clicks (hence why I won't link the actual story, find it if you want if you want). Hmm... [Hey mods you can move this somewhere else if you feel it more appropriate, I'm just drunk and felt like venting about something that was grinding my gears. lolz]
  6. I think it's funny that they even bothered to say 'one of' the world's first non-inverting loops in that ride video, might as well've said 'one of the world's first fuchsia coloured roller coasters' while they're at it.
  7. I like the idea of the fuse slowly being lit as the boat goes up the hill, it's a great thematic idea that builds tension. As for this issue you mentioned, you could have an LED fuse (or something) going up the centre bottom of the lift hill, just a little bit in front of the boat so people in the boat can see it but it doesn't spoil the illusion for other people on the hill. And rather than audio sequences that have to be lined up such as dialogue, you could just have the sound of the fuse sizzling with some ambient music accompanying.
  8. Will the Wipeout and Tower of Terror 2 even be open by the time this event comes round? Like its cute that they've put the main thrill rides on that thing but a bit misleading if they're still in 'maintenance'.
  9. I'm secretly (selfishly) hoping this is on or near the Mornington Peninsula, or at least on the East side as that's where I live. And the 1hr 15mins clue lines up with that too. *fingers crossed*
  10. Might be making something out of nothing (but of course that's what we do best here) but could this be a clue towards the theme of the coaster? I.e. not DC themed, just generic, tall, twisty coaster? This and the fence toppers is making me lean towards this thought of late.
  11. But seriously, this is pretty damn exciting, hopefully this is nearby to where I live not just so I can visit often but maybe get a change in work life! Working in retail for 13 years is starting to grate on the soul...
  12. I look forward to riding the inevitable B&M gigacoaster!
  13. I hate to be a pessimist but I have zero faith in Ardent or whatever they're called now. If they truly wanted to make Dreamworld better they'd be adding rides or more theming or shows or whatever to the actual park, not letting it stagnate while planning on filling the outside with flashy nonsense. You can't improve upon something by ignoring it, it's exactly what's happened with the town of gold rush and if they're not smart about it, it's going to end up happening to the whole damn park.
  14. I rode the Mine Ride precisely twice in my childhood and and maybe I'm misremembering it or maybe I was too young to appreciate it but I don't recall there being anything noteworthy about it aside from how dark it was. I'm all for more roller coasters, especially good ones at Dreamworld, but a 'return' of the Mine Ride imo would require an almost complete rebuild in order for it to be anything to write home about. Also, re: the Mine Ride, I'll believe it when I fucking see it. Seriously, it's like the Orphan Rocker of the sunshine state.
  15. With the exception of some 'illusion breaking' moments in the latter part of the ride, the theming was almost on par with Disney-esque attraction BUT with some of the kind of wild thrills reserved for fairground attractions. It wasn't perfect but it was top tier for sure. Quite frankly, without a substantial investment in its future proofing (i.e. taking notes from the timeless Haunted Mansion from aforementioned Disney parks) OR reverting it back to its original status there is potential for a massive failure with the refurbishment. If they cheap out on the sets and props or rely too heavily on virtual over practical effects it will be only to the detriment to the ride. Having said that, I haven't ridden the ride in its current bare bones state so I guess anything would be an improvement...
  16. Maybe they did have animated POV's all lined up for when they intended to announce the ride last year, and maybe because of 'events' they had to rename / retheme the coaster meaning the POV's were at least partially unusable?I'm just spitballing here, truth is nobody here knows the reasons it's taken so long, and short of getting insider information or having it all explained to us when the announcement does come we likely won't ever know, so speculation is all we have.
  17. @Slick That's the best thing I've read all day on here (not that's hard given the current state of conversation).
  18. While I disagree with how MW have marketed their coaster so far, I suppose there's some ways I can understand why they haven't. As far as online or television marketing, when it comes to something of this tremendous size and aesthetic quality, sometimes words aren't enough. Just giving it a name and saying it'll be 2xx feet high (or 6x meters) isn't as impressive as having a completed track or even just completed lift hill and first drop to show off. That's the only reason I can see for having taken this long to formally announce the coaster, name and layout. Either that or they're still deciding what to call it.
  19. So by the looks of this picture the track goes through the hole of the loop/non invert loop twice? If so, that's so cool!
  20. While I do confess a great deal of nostalgia for 'old Movie World', specifically Police Academy and Looney Tunes River Ride, these were rides with finite lifespans. Gremlins was an aged product of its time, likewise Police Academy and the first Batman simulator, 2017 would not be kind to these rides because they would seem quaint at best and antiquated for sure by modern standards. Say what you will about the modern replacements, but they fit the bill for this current time. (The only sore point for me personally is Hollywood Stunt Driver 2 which feels wholly a poor imitation, they could have kept the show relevant but similar to Police Academy by theming it to something hip and current but still funny like the 21 Jump Street remakes). To the point though, Movie World while victim perhaps to trying to pander to what's 'cool' in the moment (chasing money in Matrix, Pokemon, Harry Potter and now DC Comics) it was a great park and still is a great park, just different. I can set aside my nostalgia for 'Rodney from Tasmania' and journeying to the center of the earth if it means the future is hypercoasters and likewise.
  21. I've not ridden nearly enough coasters to be able to answer this question without bias and nostalgia clouding my opinion. Sadly, it's probably still Superman Escape, though I reserve judgment for my impending Japan visit to change this decision.
  22. Dreamworld and White Water World were combined some months before the TRR incident, so it's a hundred percent unlikely that was the reason for the combination of these two 'parks' on the one ticket price, unless of course your implying some sort of nefarious conspiracy! Personally I had zero interest in White Water World prior to its amalgamation, but since (specifically in September '16) I would totally have visited that water park, not just because it was included in the ticket price but because it rustled some warm nostalgic feelings about Dreamworld's first water park Blue Lagoon.
  23. There's literally a whole forum topic already about this. Why did you have to create a new one?
