  1. The first funeral will be held today, with 2 more this weekend and the final one on Monday. DW CEO has announced that out of respect for the families, there is a media blackout and no further media calls/press releases/interviews will occur until after the funerals next week.
  2. I don't like hypothesising when we don't know the facts, but it isn't impossible to believe that the 3 elements coming together is what caused a usual run of the mill issue becoming tragic. We know the pump/s was having issues at some point earlier that day. Potentially the decision was made to keep the pump running at a reduced efficiency as this hasn't led to issues previously, or there was no foreseen negative outcome in doing so. A mechanical component then could have failed, i.e. a sensor that detects a boat in the first block area after the conveyor, causing the conveyer to continue to move when usually it would stop, and just happened to do so at the exact time a boat happened to be stuck. finally human error in an attendant not noticing that a boat happened to have become stuck/bottomed out and/or the non-stopping of the conveyor and hitting the e-spot prior to an impact occurring, potentially due to such an issue no arising previously. Again all that is entirely conjecture and just an example of how all 3, however unlikely in isolation, 'could' occur simultaneously in some 'perfect storm' scenario. And clarifying further, none of the examples I have given may be true and are not based on any fact or knowledge of the actual events
  3. Ugh... how does one hide deaths in a theme park with 44,000 people with cameras, phones & social media. If someone died on a ride in Disneyland tomorrow we'd know in Australia at the same moment park management got a call to say it happened...
  4. Wondering if @loki75 may have a confirmed track distance on his plans at all..
  5. Everyone is a newbie at some point. We take everything with a grain of salt until we get confirmation or some concrete evidence, it's not personal. Thanks for sharing what you know
  6. Give me that ride turn for turn, twist for twist and I would be over the moon. Anything of the ilk would change the theme park landscape on the GC immediately as it would raise the stakes between parks on what the ceiling is for the level/scale of rides & attractions in our parks
  7. Boom Boom. 2 posts, 2 doozies! Welcome There is plenty of footage of them moving the dummy's around, filling them with water etc. Also footage of the water filling the troughs. Air space restrictions began once the dummy's were to be placed in the boats.
  8. Ridiculous article, the CEO's lifestyle is of no importance, relevance or interest
  9. Good article Richard. I see selling as a distinct possibility, maybe to Wanda or another operator looking to enter the Australian market. There is no doubt the park will be worth less in 6-12 months than it was worth 8 days ago, and the value will likely continue to drop until a significant capital expenditure occurs to draw crowds back. With Ardents focus on ME in the US, I can't see them persisting with any significant investment in a business that is seeing attendances & consumer confidence drop. DW is prime for the picking imo.. and Ardent pay just decide the best idea is to get through the current investigation, let some time pass, and then cut & run and let someone else try and restore the park to its glory
  10. CCTV doesn't have 360 degree vision. Would likely only cover one angle
  11. Advertisements have to be accurate? Every infomercial ever created, every 'Biggest Sale Ever' campaign, and Sea Monkeys prove that not to be the case.
  12. Given private certifiers can approve attractions as opposed to council, any postponement of rides etc would only be through the choice of the park.
  13. Yep - also reporting that Heath & Safety have to sign off the ride before they begin construction.... hmmm, well over a month worth of work has already happened.. that wouldn't have happened if they didn't already have the necessary approvals
  14. She wasn't born an adult, so clearly she does grow older. Wonder Woman isn't immortal, she is, however, long-lived. Most comics date her at approximately 85 years old at the time when Batman/Superman are in their 30s. Good Genes I guess..
  15. I'd argue that the large majority of the general public, hell i would go as high as 90%, don't consider ToT a roller coaster anyway. If you asked them what's the tallest roller coaster in Australia, most would try and pick an answer from their brain from a choice of SE or AA GCB report Warner Bros Movie World theme park’s next attraction to be a 200-foot tall ‘hyper coaster’ ANDREW POTTS, Gold Coast Bulletin 32 minutes ago A PLAN to build the Gold Coast’s tallest thrill ride – more than 60 metres high – will have to pass stringent new safety checks before work can start, following last week’s Dreamworld tragedy. Movie World’s next attraction is expected to be a “hyper-coaster”, a large-scale variant of the traditional roller coaster which will either have a height or drop of more than 60 metres and would be the nation’s tallest. Vaughan, Ontario, Canada - July 26, 2014: People riding the Leviathan rollercoaster at Canada's Wonderland amusement park It will be the first new attraction to come under the State Government’s safety blitz on theme park attractions, announced last week after four people were killed on the Thunder River Rapids Ride. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland experts have to assess and approve plans for the new ride before work can start. This photo provided by Cedar Point Amusement Park shows the Valravn, the new roller coaster that's opening to the public on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The roller coaster has already broken records. It's now recognized as the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster. Picture: Jordan Sternberg/Cedar Point Amusement Park via AP The safety blitz will primarily focus on older rides and will include the Gold Coast’s other parks, as well as Australia Zoo and Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast. Helensvale-based company Alder Construction has advertised for subcontractor and supplier pricing for the new Movie World project, beginning yesterday. The project is expected to be open within a year and is one of several multi-million new attractions planned for the park, including a $35-million golf facility, hotel and new carpark. Imagine staring down this drop — This is the view from the top of the Goliath Hyper Coaster at Six Flags, Illinois in the US. Construction is expected to be a matter of months away, with avid theme park watchers already snapping photographs of crates at the park from German roller coaster manufacturer Mack Rides. Mack is the company responsible for another Movie World attraction, the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster, as well as Sea World’s Storm Coaster. Movie World is a hive of activity with construction occurring near its front entrance. Picture: Richard Gosling Village Roadshow yesterday failed to answer questions about the attraction including when it will open, or when construction would begin. “Warner Bros. Movie World is looking forward to making an exciting announcement in the near future,” a company spokesman said. Riding a Hyper Coaster The new project would eclipse Movie World’s tallest coaster, the Superman Escape by at least 21m. In September, a development and building application was filed with the Gold Coast City Council for a “themed entertainment, ride and retail outlet” at the park. The online Roller Coaster Database lists plans for a steel-structured, sit-down “extreme” roller coaster. The front gates of Movie World are set to have plenty of extra patrons passing through it, with a series of new attractions planned for the park. The Bulletin understands representatives of the theme park have met with the council to discuss plans for the park. In June, plans for a $35m golf attraction with US entertainment company Topgolf were unveiled, with the facility set to open in late 2017. Spanning 6ha (15 acres) of land next to Movie World, Topgolf will be in the same precinct as the hotel and lake precinct and is expected to attract an extra 500,000 people a year. Village Roadshows CEO of Theme Parks Tim Fischer in June said the company was planning an announcement of “significant gross capital cost” for the park.
  16. Anyone with eyes in the car park can see it barely makes it halfway
  17. Well, truth be told it's lucky to make it 80m up the tower these days
  18. The current safety audit will not included TRR, the park is not going to wait for TRR to be certified Safe to operate before they open the park...
  19. Slow the ride down to increase ride time.. have you ever visited SW in summer peak season? It's a good hour wait to ever get on that ride and you want to purposely slow cycle times??
  20. can only think that they are doing a major refurb on it, maybe a retheme? You wouldn't imagine it would be due to a new attraction or ride as most of the ride envelope and surrounds are utilised.
  21. Funerals will take place this week as the deceased were released to the families over the weekend. From all accounts the safety checks begun Saturday, I don't imagine it will take weeks to sign off the park unless there are issues that arise
  22. The only way I see commercial partners jumping out of their contracts would be if the inquest finds blatant and documented evidence of poor/inconsistent/fraudulant maintenance and/or records of maintenance. At this stage I don't believe there to be evidence of such.
  23. I really don't see much point to your line of questioning. the gap between slats was certainly well short of a metre. At 1.75m you'd have had every 2nd boat flipping. a 170cm person falling over a void that is 75cm wide would not likely fall through providing they had the use of their arms and hands (i.e. Conscious). You'd only likely fall through if you fell and went down head first. I don't think talk of dismemberment is what we should be talking about here personally.
