  1. 10 have had nothing but massive fails all year. The launch of their new channels failed, Im a Celebrity failed and won’t return next year. They won’t be rushing into more reality tv
  2. To be fair, BA:TR & LTRR were replaced by rides that were planned to replace them. Whilst the consensus may not be that they were great choices, it was a plan.
  3. Zero % chance of that occurring. They are not going to drop $15m+ just to replace an old ride with a more modern version of the exact same thing.
  4. Wipeout is going so they don’t have to keep investing money into a ailing decades old attraction. I somehow doubt they’ll be rediverting funds that they weren’t wanting to spend to another ailing decades old attraction
  5. If I’m disregarding all restrictions and money, then I’m replacing TOT & GD with a Kingda Da/TTD-esque ride that takes the global height record and includes a drop tower down the middle.
  6. Solid bump I know, but seems to the most relevant place to post this article from the Bulletin today... Gold Coast theme parks: 1998 deal for Gold Coast Disneyland dumped over $845m disagreement MARCH 08, 2019 IT took 21 years of work but entertainment giant Disney was finally keen go build its own Disneyworld on the Gold Coast. But it all went wrong and the plan fell apart. The prospect of a Gold Coast Disneyland was back in the news this week on the back of the State Government announcing it would push ahead with creating a global tourism hub. The Gold Coast nearly had its own Disneyland Leading Coast businessman Tony Cochrane, who will be part of a Gold Coast Tourism Advisory Panel, told Toursim Minister Kate Jones the tender process could lead to an entertainment giant like Disneylandpitching a project without a casino component. “I think our view will be let’s bring everything forward. Let’s look at everything. We shouldn’t rule anything out or anything in at this early stage,’’ Mr Cochrane said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the Coast. Let’s see what they’re going to propose and where.” His comments came 21 years after the Coast came close to securing Disney, only to lose the deal in an argument over nearly $1 billion. The push to secure Disneyland for a site at Coomera first began in 1977 when the Southport-based Star Land Company began trying to woo the American company. How Gold Coast Disney would have looked. But it was not until early 1998 that things got serious when the State Government got involved. Gold Coast-based Sport Minister Mr Mick Vievers visited Disneyland in late 1997 with former Expo chairman Sir Llew Edwards, fuelling speculation that the Government was negotiating a deal with Disney Corporation to set up shop in Queensland. Talk initially centred on Bribie Island but attention soon turned to the Gold Coast and the Star land. An early concept image Initially led by the Borbidge Government and continued by Labor after it won that year’s election, taxpayers ultimately stumped up around $2 million. Operating under the working title of ‘Starland’, former premier Wayne Goss was brought in to lead the charge and was sent to the US by the Government to negotiate with the Walt Disney company. There was strong support from the Gold Coast City Council’s Cr Jan Grew. An overview of the Disney site at Coomera. Less than two months after taking office, Premier Peter Beattie wrote to Disney saying he wanted an answer on whether the project would go ahead by September 1998. Disney responded that month saying it would require millions of dollars in support to make the theme park viable. “For a Disney project to be feasible, it would require direct government support including land, infrastructure, tax incentives and capital dollars for construction costs of the theme park of at least $US300 million to $US500 million, most likely toward the upper end of this range,” the company said. Former Premier Wayne Goss Picture: Nathan Richter A month later, Mr Beattie wrote to the Disney organisation seeking a clear indication by the end of September as to whether the Starland project had sufficient support for a full financial feasibility study to proceed. But Disney hit back claiming the “economics” were “difficult”. “At this time, we do not have sufficient confidence that the project will receive enough financial support for it to be feasible, and therefore, do not wish to risk creating false expectations either among the public, government leaders or Star Land Company. Premier Peter Beattie in 1998. “Therefore, unless your government is willing to commit to this type of funding, we don’t believe that probabilities warrant further time and energy being spent …’’ The Premier then wrote to Star Land chairman Dr J. Carmichael that the Government appreciated the substantial effort and commitment by the company to the development of the project. “In the circumstances, I advise that the Queensland Government is not prepared to provide any further funding to the Star Land Company for the Starland project,’’ he said.
  7. Give him some time mate, it’s his first day....
  8. First day on the job: “this Wipeout thing is a piece of shit. Close it”.
  9. Biggest load of crock I have ever heard. The ride has needed to go for years, but to make it out like there is this undeniable request from visitors for additionally shaded seating “near major rides” is ridiculous. The biggest undercover seated area in the park is a 30 second walk away, and there is further shaded seating in front of Flowrider. the park can’t attract enough to people to fill the existing bloody seats they have. I would argue not a single person has requested a “chill out zone”. There has been something major wrong with it for years. As is general standard when someone without “runs on the board” announces aomething as fact without much detail in how/why they have this information
  10. Its not big brother, all the major networks have already had their 2019 programming reveals back in November/December. Something as significant as a return of Big Brother would have been a highlighted program for shareholders. They are also likely to sell the land the house is on anyway for development. My guess is either an announcement of an artist for neon nights, or given the space/sky theme, it’s probably just some chump in a space suit coming to the park to say “Sky Voyager will open in the next few weeks”.
  11. Unless said person is coming to fix Sky Voyager then really no one gives a f...
  12. Not as far as I have ever heard. There isn’t sufficient land between TG and OS for the hotel anyway from what I can see, the water tank for filming, carparks and access road to PC are all in that area.
  13. The blue area most certainly isn’t owned by the council. VTP did have a hotel earmarked for the land, whether that’s still in the pipeline is anyone’s guess.
  14. I’d rather live in Baghdad than Melbourne with its stupid weather, annoying city road network and la-di-da smashed avo chai quinoa latte hipsters
  15. Surely the best of the best would have been a highly experienced Theme park safety/engineering specialist...
  16. I’d tell you Skeeta but I’m worried you’d get a massive woodie..
  17. From what I’ve heard I doubt theming will play a big part so you’ll probably lambast the decision despite it being the best thing for the park
  18. Take with a Grain of Salt/second hand info hence putting it in this thread, but apparently Clark Kirby had a “state of play” meeting with staff yesterday at SW and something very big is coming late 2020 on the ride front that will change the landscape of SW quite dramatically
  19. Yeah that’s my point. I won’t see his/her crap but they’ll still see mine and be able to bloody fountain it all and cheers for the 👍s!
  20. Can an admin PLEASE do something about whitewaterwanker aka @Www worker 3.0 Absolutely sick of logging in to 5 notifcations of he/she putting bloody fountains on everything I post. Pm’d and politely asked they stop, which has been met with it happening more. I’d put them on ignore but I think that just blocks me from seeming them not vice versa so it won’t stop. I’ve had patience but after 2 weeks of it I’m done...
  21. 8 hours is a big stretch. You certainly wouldn’t make it in that time if there was any significant adjacent road works where you’re forced to do 80 when there’s is literally nothing happening on the road you are driving on. 11ish hours if you factor in some stretching/meal breaks is probably pretty accurate
  22. The rectangular banner underneath the main billboard used to say “coming/arriving this summer”. It’s now been replaced with an ad for annual passes and afterpay
  23. Well at least it’s no longer “coming this summer”
  24. Yeah there is a new section dedicated to Scrappy’s throbbing biceps.. it’s an upcharge for $25.
