  1. For me the two must see shows in Vegas are KA and Le Rêve at Wynn - both shows are mind blowing. Blue Man Group has moved to Monte Carlo with a new show which is apparently infinitely times better than the old show at Venetian which I loved. Their humor is not for everyone though. I know you've already booked accommodation but if you haven't prepaid - cancel LVH and look at a hotel on the strip. You'll spend a lot of time casino hopping and LVH's location will mean that you'll need to hop in a cab anytime you want to get near the strip. I'm guessing you got a pretty good rate but trust me, splurge a little. LVH is definitely a hotel stuck in the 80's and doesn't really offer the over the top Vegas vibe that you get from staying in casinos like MGM, Caesars etc. MGM just renovated their rooms and it looks fantastic... rates run anywhere from $80-$150 a night, and a stupid big suite is usually only $20 extra per night. A lot of people are comfortable with having a cheap bed for the night but I think the quality of hotel/casino you stay in plays a big part in your overall Vegas experience. Shopping - head to the LV Premium Outlets toward the Stratosphere end of the strip. Proper brand outlets with crazy cheap stuff. Pop into Circus Circus while you're down that end of the strip and get a ride on Canyon Blaster. I enjoyed it, surprisingly a punchy little coaster.
  2. The Parkz Update: Movie World November 2012 Click here to continue reading...
  3. ^ I think Gazza was more so pointing out that the M4 doesn't run directly into the CBD as the video suggests.
  4. I don't like the sound of either. A Star Flyer is a bit too carnival-ish to be in a park like Movie World, and I can't see them investing in a coaster so similar to GL. I really believe an airtime filled woodie in the Wild West section should be their next major ride. Whether or not that's possible with the space available I'm not sure. Were there pictures of both rides in the surveys or did you assume they were those rides based on descriptions?
  5. I'm more impressed with the animation than the ride itself! California needs an El Toro-esque woodie, not a sprawled out version of Apocalypse. What I'm really looking forward to is the announcement of "Full Throttle" at SFMM in a few hours. There are some crazy rumours floating around that suggests the ride will launch into the world's tallest vertical loop, before launching backwards and experiencing the loop a second time on it's outer rails. No idea what that means but it sounds ridiculous. EDIT: Look above!
  6. Sure was, I remember it being just past the entrance of Zodiac towards the entrance of Hanna Barbera Land. I'm not sure if it was an upcharge or not.
  7. ^ Oh absolutely. The LW refurb was much needed but they could have easily milked GL for another year before thinking about new attractions. This truly shows that VRTP have great direction for the park.
  8. All well and good to come up with a bunch of numbers and percentages, but not everyone that's dissatisfied with something will take the time to voice their opinion. A general rule in any industry dealing with customer service/satisfaction is that one complaint usually represents many others. Joz and Gogoboy summed it up nicely - repeat visitors will absolutely question why rides (quality ones at that) have been closed down without any replacements. Whether or not they jump onto Facebook and write an angry message is another story. Edit: Joz beat me to it
  9. Hmm I don't know... looking back at some of my posts I really wonder how you all put up with me.
  10. I love the idea of a forward/backward facing train, but seeing as the trains have already been delivered, it might be a little too late for that. It would be the first full circuit backwards facing invert though.
  11. Probably being captain obvious here but it kinds of represents that you're "stepping into" the story of GL don't you think?
  12. Hey Dave, Welcome to Parkz! Good to have you here. There are a couple of threads already covering the ride closures, possible replacements and company direction and Please feel free to contribute to those threads instead. Just a bit of friendly advice -- you might be wasting your time heading down to MW to investigate. Regular staff (operations, F&B etc.) will have no idea, and those that are in the know are bound by strict agreements that prevent them from speaking out.
  13. The ACA clip is now up ("Theme park summer specials"). There's some POV shots and a few glimpses of the queue theming... really looks quite presentable.
  14. Spambots will almost always include links in their messages. The only reason for their being is to increase site ranking in the search engines... the more links pointing back to their site the higher they rank for the particular keyword they're trying to target. Seeing as there's no links in Joe's message and it's actually relevant to the amusement industry (not WoW gold or porn) makes me 110% sure
  15. Definitely not a spambot. Joe, probably stating the obvious but you might be best off checking out eBay and Gumtree.
  16. A Current Affair was actually worth watching tonight with a piece on our parks and their new attractions, including some cool footage of GL. I imagine that it will be available in their Videos section shortly.
  17. Great pics themeparknut, thank you. From the looks of things the first drop trim doesn't extend as far down as other El Loco's, so the drop should still be relatively speedy.
  18. They look great. I really hope they're successful over the summer. 0:21 -- apparently redbacks sound like lions?
  19. I agree that theming is a crucial part of any theme park and it's attractions, and I'm sure it has a significant impact on a guest's experience, but I think that the general consensus with those in charge is that spending a couple million more on theming couldn't be justified for GL. I don't agree with it, but based on what we've seen in the park the past couple of years (late shop opening times and ride rotations during off peak), things are pretty tight. Unfortunately theming isn't needed to sell this coaster to the general public -- people will be talking about the steep drop. It looks to be a fantastic coaster that everyone will love. Rides that require extensive theming (the replacements for LTRR & Batman) I'm pretty confident they'll do a good job with.
  20. Agreed. The lights and speakers had me convinced that an equally as impressive station and queue would be built. It's evident that MW have decided that the ROI is just not worth the extra effort -- and in reality they'd be right, the only people complaining about the open air station will be us, the rest will be talking about the ride itself.
  21. SFMM has one of the most unique collection of coasters of any park in the world. If you're short on time, skip Universal and just do Disney & SFMM. Also don't forget that the park is only open weekends up until late March.
  22. Here's another video by the same user, this time the car abruptly stops on the second set of brakes. Just looking at these videos a little more, so long as operations are tight I think a trimless cycle could work and be quite fun. I'm going back on what I said above but the outward bank turn at those speeds will be something special... from what I've read that element is the best part on an El Loco, and the existing models take the turn at a crawling pace -- on GL it will feel like you're being flung out of the car. Also with 7 cars and the relatively short track I'm thinking that there will be a dual load/unload station similar to Scooby.
