^^ No way in hell would any Australian insurer touch that!

I'm glad someone else gets it. Whilst our parks have built some impressive stuff in the past they still had relatively tiny budgets. Today the market has changed a lot, the public no longer values theme parks as the premium high dollar entertainment they once were years ago. This only leaves a certain amount of capital available for rides to be built. And like it or not, spending twice as much won't equal twice the revenue, our country is just too small and too isolated. We're fortunate to have 2 major attractions AND a huge parade opening on the coast this year, that's about the best we can hope for realistically.

No as I was saying I expect if its a heat problem that it's in the control side of things as you suggest and not mechanical like metal expanding.
-
I'd say a heat issue is more likely components or motors overheating and tripping out because of some problem rather than the heat from the weather. That seems highly unlikely.

Finishes on the 18th? That's surprising, I would have expected it to go till closer to christmas.

Sounds like a routine fire call out to me from what you described, a false alarm, wouldn't be surprising with all the smoke around. Good spotting though, I too saw it and wondered if anyone else would have.

I'm not saying its the majority of people on these forums who prefer the 'new' movieworld, I'm saying it's the majority of the public, the ones buying the tickets at the front gate. Personally I'd prefer to see a park full of high quality immersive dark rides over coasters any day (give me 1 space mountain over 4 supermans) but the parks aren't for me, they are for the 'majority' and from what I see, the population at large just doesn't want that sort of park any more. Theme park management aren't stupid, they build what the market wants, not what they want.

I actually just flat out don't believe that multiple people are calling the park "Roller coaster world" and before anyone comments suggesting I'm calling someone a liar I just want to clarify and say that IS exactly what I'm saying. I don't believe multiple people are saying that without any provocation at all flat out. All I hear from families looking at the new ride is positive, and I'm talking about overhearing them talking amongst themselves, and not to me. The kids all want to ride it, the parents are all talking about how great it looks and I've seen no negativity AT ALL. I also don't remember a time every when families have said how great movieworld is to spend a day as a family, all I EVER remember hearing is how the park needed more rides and DW was better, now it's doing that apparently people aren't happy... hmmmm The park opened with little rides and mostly shows and experiences, people weren't happy and wanted more rides, something makes me think that people are never happy and just want to winge... oh yes actually that's exactly what they do. Look at other comments and see complaints about fright nights that you can't get on enough rides and it's just about theming and atmosphere, seriously, no one is ever happy.

It's called suspension trauma and it's caused by the body being trapped unconscious and unable to move the legs or faint into a horizontal position. When upright the heart itself is unable to pump blood from the legs up, it needs the leg muscles to assist. As long as you are not unconscious and can move your legs you will be fine for a long period of time.

^ doesn't mean it's not fun to read !

The green lantern just looks like such a more solid ride overall in its construction. The other looks almost 'cheap and nasty' but Green Lantern really does look great.
-
Have to watch again, I just heard Inverted coaster
-
I know some people were concerned at the article stating this was a stand up coaster... Rest assured this has been corrected, the TV commercial I just saw for it clearly stated it was an Invert

It's such a good looking ride. If any aussie parks were looking to add a traditional large full circuit coaster, I really think that would be the right direction to be going in.

OMG are we next going to discuss the colour of green the beam along the pool will be painted? You'll notice the chopper on the deck of that carrier, it has a lot more moving parts than a damn ferris wheel. As for rust, Sea World has to deal with the salt factor all the time and the rides there do survive, true all of the fasteners must be stainless but that's pretty much the case in all the parks anyway. To address an earlier comment, economically viable doesn't mean it would make money in port, but the transport isn't practical, it means the entire operation must make money. Trust me if it was viable, Disney would have done it!

Welcome to Australia

The free locker system doesn't work. I've seen so many people get stuck when the time goes just over and their wallet is locked in the locker! And as for the comment on adding a rock wall or traveling ride... Could you imagine the outrage on this site if they DID do this! Just curious, how much did you pay to get through the gate that day Alex

With the 2nd best result ever... Given the diabolical weather of the peak period last year that's pretty darn good. To look at a single years result is pretty near sighted and doesn't give you a trend at all. But whether or not you which to have an objective discussion is of course up to you. Should I take by that logic that arranging enthusiast preview events for stuff like fright nights is the wrong track?

I actually completely agree with Joz... That's a very well thought out post and the thing about the infrastructure will be completely true.

Look to be going above the bare minimum which I like

So many things here... Firstly the pouch thing won't work, because it's OPTIONAL, you can remove the items and also doesn't work for bags. Please go back to my precious comments about insurance... And also I've already said my bit about it being a revenue exercise. Then in regards to closures... Just because we don't see a sign of replacements doesn't mean they aren't in the works (and please don't any idiots say that I must know something because that's not what I mean). For all you know a new attraction could be signed off, designed and bought with construction starting immediately after green lantern. Maybe not, but we as enthusiats don't know. Then there's the ride choices and direction itself... Agree with it or disagree but it's US the customers that control this NOT park management. Enthusiasts are a ridiculously insignificant portion of the customer base for a theme park. The video game world has greatly changed the Australian tourist forever, immersive experiences are so common in the home and cinema it's no longer enough for a theme park. People want thrills, it's sad but it's true. And thrills combined with an immersive experience is REALLY expensive, an expense which I don't know the Australian economy can support for now at least. To say the park is going downhill is really just quite incorrect... The current management has delivered the most successful yearly results on record, and visitation isn't decreasing. Not too long ago there were a lot of complaints about entertainment in the park and look now, I think the entertainment department is going from success story to success story. As for Green Lantern, just from home but go take one look at the thing and I think you'll change your mind. Every day when I drive past I just keep getting more excited for how awesome this thing is gonna be. I recon it will give superman a run for it's money!

I'm not going to offer any personal opinion here just some clear facts for everyone... Firstly all business require permits to operate, it's not just a case of blanket noise restrictions as quotes above. Movie World only has a permit from council to operate external rides until 9pm. That's it, end of story. It's also not just as simple as running the rides any time they feel like until 9pm. The park needs permission for all night time operation. If say a bunch of staff were going to ride an attraction on a normal day of the week at 8pm they would have to do so without screaming to avoid getting the park in trouble. You see its not the rides that are the noise problem, its actually the people riding them. Secondly for anything like a no loose articles policy, or any of the safety type matters that may concern people... It's not the parks (or any business) that dictates these policies, it's the insurance companies. Simple as this, you can't run say a ride without insurance (and if you could you'd be a moron) and insurance companies won't insure you unless they are happy. So if for instance the insurance companies after 20 years decided they now want no loose articles on a ride, that's, it, park has no choice. So it's the insurance companies, and from my observations across the country Australia would by far be the worst country in the world for stupid insurance stuff, much worse than America and just a joke compared to Europe, that create these policies, not the parks revenue departments. One opinion I will give is that for the modest amount the park would make from lockers, its not worth having a no loose items policy just to create that revenue stream. It's much easier just to let guests on unchecked and even saves money in wages. As for ride closures, if it's not scheduled maintenance then its sadly just bad luck. Given the massive storm we had last night, I'd dare say it may have something to do with the above mentioned rides no operating today.
