Good chance though it's something no one will see. Say a ride needed it's control system replaced. That could easily take 3 months but would re open with the ride looking identical to the public.

Clearly there must be something being done with a major component if Superman is going down for 3 months. They don't just shut a signature attraction for shits and gigs, don't be silly.

Tiger Island Refurbishment - Dreamworld 2016

There may be a reason for the cladding choice, surely you don't just pick a material on a whim. We also don't know how it will be finished so let's just wait and see. -
I would do half a dozen or so small projectors up the lift projecting in places so that it looks like sparks fizzing around the 'fuse'. If you use small solid state based projectors very cheap to maintain. I'd throw some subs in there too for that big thunder rumble

disneylands new guardians of the galaxy ride opening soon
rappa replied to alldinoman17's topic in Theme Park Discussion
See I like that review but the end gets me. People need to stop saying it's more relevant than twilight zone because that ride is no way whatsoever relied on the twilight zone franchise for its appeal. This is version though 100% relies on Guardians and it will be as outdated as Back to the Future the ride in 10 years time. -

Here's a question for you MickeyD from both yours and Santa's comments... How do you think this ride sits for anyone who HASN'T seen the films? I take your point about how the pre-show needs to set it up. But I think it won't have anywhere near the impact for someone who hasn't seen the film franchise as it will for those of us that has. Having said that, I don't think you needed to have seen one single episode of Twilight Zone for Tower of Terror to work because it really was a self contained/explained story. That's another point of difference I think Disney USUALLY has over Universal. Here I think you kinda need to have seen the film to appreciate the ride. Much like Harry Potter. In comparison I haven't seen Cars, and I don't think I'm missing anything from that ride experience as a result, and I mean who needs to have seen Song of the South in order to enjoy Splash Mountain, same with Indiana Jones. I think this is maybe the biggest reason this is falling flat for me... that and the fact I don't think it will be timeless like was mentioned above. Having said that the vast majority of people will probably LOVE it, so what does my opinion matter -

You've listed a bunch of great parts there. But they don't make a whole. It's all disjointed without one component tied to the next. Ask yourself this. If you were building this ride from scratch would you choose to use an elevator as the ride system? Ive no doubt it's a fun ride but it's a waste and not one part makes sense if you weren't just slapping this on something you already had. Full disclosure: I love the Guardians films so my dislike for this has nothing to do with the films. Like I said, should have gone into Star Tours -

So the ride is now open and here's my thoughts... I think it looks like the worst idea Disney ever had for a ride redo since Rocket Rods. What a fail, sure the theming and pre show is top notch, but the ride theme in no way fits the ride system and at the expense of what was an amazing ride and theme (albeit not as well executed as it's siblings). The original theme, story, experience, was pure Disney. This incarnation belongs at Universal, I'm left wondering where the 3D glasses and water spray is going to happen. The ride experience lacks any coherent story, suspense or just real 'WTF just happened' factor. I think it's best summed up by the sign out front, that's something I would expect to see in a Six Flags park. I'm actually shocked that they are opening Pandora and this biscuit at the same time. To me holding off and re theming Star Tours to Guardians would have made much more sense given the film is pretty much centred around flying on a space ship and foreign worlds, and the entire pre show/que could also be themed that way. That and the fact Star Tours makes little sense being in Tomorrowland once the new land opens. About as much sense as a giant Guardians tower makes in an old world Hollywood part of DCA which would be much more suited to say, and Old abandoned Glamorous Hotel.... hey wait a minute. -
New Dreamworld Patisserie & Grill "coming soon"
rappa replied to Theme Park Girl's topic in Theme Park Discussion
How does it sound in there? Looking at it the extensive use of only hard surfaces make it seem like it's going to sound like a horrid cafeteria. Would have liked to have seen a lot more warmth in the space. What the Aussie parks currently have with this fascination with 'ultra modern corporate' design style really leaves me baffled. -

Thinks its about time for the big crane to arrive. -
Correct! They really are strict on this. IF fantasmic is back (im not exactly sure on dates) make that your priority. It's much better than World of Color or the Fireworks (plus you can stay in that area and see fireworks anyway) because of the sheer spectacle that literally appears from nothing. If you have a spare few bucks I can highly reccomend doing one of the show dining packages. Even if it's just desert. That will ensure you a great spot to watch the show without having to camp out and stake a claim.

If it's not about the coaster construction (and you talking about you following the coaster construction doesn't count) don't post it here. Not targeted at any one person, just been cleaning house in this thread AGAIN is all. -
I also vote for Platinum flash pass, really makes a massive difference to the day if you're in a hurry and August will still be well busy. Make sure you check if X actually has a wait though, sounds crazy but last July with massive waits on everything, X was like a 2 cycle wait and I didn't need to have bought the X upgrade on my flash pass. I would also recommend lining up once for Colossus if the wait isn't too bad, then use your once only flash pass for a second ride. It's hit and miss for racing, but the ops do try hard, it's usually guests who screw it up, so make sure you get yourself a racing ride. If you race on both laps that's a real treat. As for Disney, don't skip California Adventure, it's an amazing park now. With no Fantasmic you should make sure you see World of Color, it's really great and if you're so close you CAN NOT miss Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers, it's one of the best theme park lands ever built. I would also make sure you ride their rapids because nothing else out there comes close.

Dreamworld reviewing its master plan.

What about all the people and families that work at the park? If the park closes then no income for them. All the sell off does is create income for shareholders. -
You don't actually even need projection mapping. You can achieve this very cleverly just with some smart led strips suitably themed. Dont think smoke (as in glycol smoke) would be ruled out other than cost, as it would go through a lot of fluid with a blast every minute or two. Id love to design a new finale to that ride for a modest budget, but you still have to consider the ROI on an old attraction

Yeah magnetic is the kind of generic term that gets thrown around but it's not actually what is happening with the braking force. Eddy Current braking is kind of a industry term I guess. Apologies for the confusion.

OFF TOPIC: No I don't mate. Because everything you comment on you do so with out any semblance of perspective or practicality. ON TOPIC: Given the only parts there are to wear on the cars in Scooby are all replaced regularly I don't think its that. Most of the Jarring I feel comes from the braking not the drops. The hidden drop would be so much better with eddy current braking and a nice smooth stop. I also miss it being completely hidden by the original green laser.

Do you ever think before you speak Push? The me're fact Disney built what he did means he could afford it! PS when it opened many things in Disneyland were cheap and nasty FYI It's simply not possible for our parks to build a 200-300 million dollar attraction, regardless of how much you might want one.
-
Its all a moot point anyway. Even if they DID have a license to use Harry Potter for a ride, the demands JK Rowling has for detail would price any such attraction way beyond what Movie World could afford.

The kinetic energy and amazing efficiency that is that station never ceases to amaze me. -
Well this post by @Fultre is about as ridiculous as they come. Nobody has BROUGHT DOWN the animation. All anyone has done is said it's great but not accurate to the finished coaster design. AND WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG WITH THAT? There seems to be some strange thing here that nobody can say ANYTHING negative about anything/one without some group of crusaders coming out with pitch forks. Reality check, not everything in he big bad world is positive and 'you're wonderful' all the time. And not everything said negative is a personal attack. As as for this being the nastiest community around, I think you need to get out/read more.
