Dreamworld - no new roller coaster 2017-18?
GoGoBoy replied to Jamberoo Fan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I agree with this; except for the part suggesting Dreamworld is operated by a bank. Macquarie parted ways with Dreamworld long ago, if that's what you are implying. No bank involved now. But still, I agree with the sentiment. For a long time it has been pretty clear Ardent has tried to get maximum gain out of DW with minimum investment. They are incredibly reluctant to spend any serious capex on the place. Possibly even more so under the new CEO. Not to the extent of the old Sunway/Wonderland of course, but still not good. And with MW's giant coaster around the corner (plus Doomsday, plus the better VR experience, plus everything) and absolutely no sign that DW will be doing anything significant in response, well, it's all looking a little sad. And yes, it is looking like the Dreamworld asset may be the next thing Ardent offloads to focus on overseas arcade interests. -
Doomsday Destroyer - reviews and feedback

Hey - don't short change the park map! As a kid I was obsessed with them. I remember when the internet first became a thing in the late 90's and the only thing I used it for was looking up overseas theme park websites and pouring over the park maps! -

Did they get the GM to update the map because the original artist wasn't available or something? What's with making Doomsday red? It makes no sense! -
Arkham Asylum - VR coaster at Movie World
GoGoBoy replied to UpperCoomera's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I agree with the other commenter (too lazy to see who it was) who said that Arkham's VR will potentially make up for the lacklustre theming on that ride. Arkham is such a great theme choice, but it was clearly executed on a very tight budget, hence things like laminated 'pillars' that wobble when you touch them. And no on-ride theming. BUT, full credit to MW for making its VR match the Arkham theme. This means this great IP is no longer going to waste. It makes even more sense as Arkham was such a popular video game. Well done Village Roadshow - can't wait to try it. -

How ridiculous. Please tell me Arkham's VR will at least be Arkham themed. 'Cause, you know, that'd make a lot of sense -
So just to add on to what Gazza was saying - as well as the population sign falling off, the saloon 'ghost fight' was simulated by a gust of wind blowing a window curtain out, followed by the breaking balcony railing, followed by a big splash of water in the horse water trough below. So apparently the railing still breaks away, but are the curtain and water effects still working? From memory from my last trip the water splash was no longer functioning, which was a shame as you needed all stages of the sequence to be functioning to give the idea of a ghost cowboy being thrown out the window and landing in the trough.

I certainly agree with the sentiment that either way it is a big positive that MW has refreshed the ride and added a number of new theming elements. They deserve big credit for putting such care into what is (and should remain for a long time) one of the park's major blockbuster attractions.

Sounds fairly positive, although I'm disappointed about the final room. Surely they could have at least reinstated the blast of air and smoke to give the drop more impact? In terms of touch ups -- have they fixed up the geyser area? Has it been re-painted and is the mist back? Have the teepee tents been fixed up and re-painted? Hope they get the audio back in this spot. And finally, are all effects working in the ghost town?

I disagree. I reckon it's without doubt the best ride signage in the park. I'm glad to see WVTP haven't given up on decent 3D signage -- I was getting a bit worried after the effort over at Junior Driving School (the flat super basic sign on the side of the shed). Meanwhile, looks like the fog effects aren't happening yet. -

Lol!! Such a tragedy that one was. Still good, but the fire would have added such a neat element. -
Looks really nice. Sea World has really become a well presented park based on all these pics I am seeing.

HA HA, such a comedian. Sometimes it just feels like it hasn't dawned on people when we're spending so much time talking about random things like bushfires. -

Thank you djrappa! I'm almost tempted to talk about BUSHFIRES so that you will actually carry out that threat. Seriously, I hate it when these forums get sidetracked with some petty argument. I click on a thread seeing something new has been posted only to have my life wasted. Judging by the information that has been released so far and what appears to be going on at the site, we could be about to get the ride that we've all been hoping to see for a very, very long time. I'm just wondering if everyone is aware of the magnitude of this? -
The Parkz Update: Doomsday Destroyer finishing touches

Salmon-Pink Escape. So good! -
Media reports are partly attributing the disappointing result to the lacklustre performance of Wet 'n' Wild Sydney. Attendances were down 100,000 on the previous year. Village executives are blaming wet weather as usual, but those who have visited the park know the real reason - poor design and poor management and operations. Such a pity as it had such potential. Jamberoo keeps powering along, meanwhile. http://www.afr.com/business/media-and-marketing/village-roadshow-eyes-another-strong-year-for-cinema-20160825-gr18t7

Luna Park Sydney confirms Tango Train closure
GoGoBoy replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Anyone want to buy the Ranger? Yup - it's up for sale! Could this mean a new permanent ride for the Maloney's Corner section of the park? Based on all the good things happening at Luna Park Sydney recently, I wouldn't be surprised. http://www.rides4u.com/view/3128 -
Yes I agree Alex, I definitely expect to see more. It is obviously just the manufacturer's schematic without any theming or presentation elements. However, the colour will mostly likely be the same -- and it's identical to the Funnel Web. They will definitely need to do a lot to differentiate it. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
-
Thanks Jamberoo Fan. I just came across this image of the proposed slide on their website. The only thing I find a bit strange is that, as you hinted at JF, there seems to be almost no differentiation from the Funnel Web. It looks like it's exactly the same colour... and of course it ends with a giant tornado. So, their challenge should be to really try to set it apart (because clearly the experience will be different if it is indeed internally themed and equipped with effects). A different colour might help, or at least a distinctly different shade of grey!
-
Sounds amazing. Jamberoo is beginning to appeal a lot more than Wet 'n' Wild Sydney. This new attraction would definitely encourage me to visit, while there is not a lot calling me back to WnW. If Jamberoo added a decent master blaster-style slide next (ie. something longer than 'The Breakers'), that'd be the icing on the cake.

Doomsday Destroyer - 2016 Movie World construction
GoGoBoy replied to Hypermarket Hero's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I haven't said too much about this because from experience I know that generally when it all comes together it ends up looking good. But I have to say I have been worried about the material used on these facades. It just feels like the whole thing is meant to be an indoor set. But I assume there is more to come in terms of making the vertical and horizontal brick panel join lines invisible. You can see the savings they made if they used a product like this - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/141964622141?lpid=107&chn=ps Or maybe it's this - http://www.durabric.com.au/ Based on what I can see from finished examples using the various fake brick panel products available (such as Durabric above, and others), the join lines should not be visible, at least once it's all fully installed. Maybe the panels are actually going to be painted? -

That looks really good! I think the addition of the ring makes the ride look so much better and really just completes the whole thing. It gives it significantly more impact. The fog canons are a perfect touch - let's just hope they work as well as shown here and are maintained properly. -
I'm going to say no. And that's the main problem with going with the silly 'mini Movie World' theme for the driving school. It's very unlikely it's going to evolve as the park does. I mean the theming is terrific, but they could have gone with any theme and still executed it well. A timeless one would have made more sense logistically.
