  1. I would just like to add to the above that Aussie World doesn't only open on ANZAC day, but offers a later closing time so you can experience their rides at night. This is from their website: At least one park is doing it right!
  2. Am I the only one that thinks the wave currently looks more like a snow wall or avalanche? I wonder whether this is merely a base and the ocean colours need to go back on, or whether we are getting a retheme?
  3. Stopped at the Ettamogah Pub for dinner on Saturday Evening. Park was already closed but the Waveswinger was looking good. From what I could see the ride itself was complete and they were working on a facade behind it. It looked like it has a 'European-style' theme, but I couldn't make it out (or take photos) due to poor light. As a side note, the meals at Bluey's Bistro in the pub are always great if you are heading up the coast. I have stopped there a few times and never been disappointed.
  4. The photos are fantastic, thanks for posting jjuttp, and incase you or anyone else didn't see the related link at the bottom, there is a terrific video compiling various home movies all shot at the park in 1955. Great viewing... http://www.buzzfeed.com/briangalindo/incredible-rare-color-footage-of-disneyland-in-1955
  5. ^ There used to be a comedy / stunt / cowboy show where the show stage is now. It was originally an outdoor stage and was later converted to an all weather stage with a new show based on the movie Maverick, which had a Wild West / Magic theme. The existing building is already more than adequate to once again host a show of this type.
  6. Another update from today's local paper suggests the park is back on track. We now have signs onsite as proof! full article here: http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/signs-its-going-ahead/2116924/ A few signs aren't exactly conclusive evidence that the park is going ahead, and the fact that the developers still cannot be contacted is a bit worrying and mystifying, but I will continue to bring updates as they come to hand, and if and when construction begins I will of course keep close tabs.
  7. I have to say that the lengths they are going to with marketing and PR stunts is impressive and looks to be effective at least to me over here on the other side of the country (and thank you iwerks for keeping track of them for us), but is it reaching the general public? Is there a buzz about the coaster (like we are seeing with WNWS) or is it going unnoticed by all but us fans? Reason for edit: manual correct of auto correct.
  8. Just a quick (and somewhat disheartening) update from an article in today's paper. The article is about the large number of stalled developments in the region and it does focus on Splash Bay, mentioning that the developer has gone quiet and is refusing to comment on the development. Full article here: http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/100-million-worth-developments-sitting-idle/2019217/ Doesn't sound promising, but hopefully something does come of this proposal.
  9. The carriages look great, as does the theming. I'm definitely getting excited for this ride now.
  10. On the parking. I think it is worth remembering that we used to pay for parking at Wonderland too, so it isn't a new concept.
  11. ^ I think they are just facing different directions.
  12. Nope , it was this guy.... Which is why no one is arguing. Bring on the Orphan Rocker!
  13. ^88mph just looks familiar because that's the speed that a Delorean needs to reach to travel through time... ...easy mistake to make
  14. On the news they claimed a witness said that the boy had ridden the ride earlier in the day with a parent, but had been allowed back on with a friend. Somebody from one of the emergency services said they believed the accident was because the height restrictions had not been adhered to (sorry if my recollection is a little vague, I was simultaneously trying to distract my 5yo from the tele to avoid him developing a fear of rides).
  15. ^ Maybe they've kept that string of red LEDs that they had in Bermuda towards the end. Seriously though, I am holding very high hopes for this ride...
  16. I was gonna say 'Wild Link' but I think that only gets you to Mt. Druitt
  17. Well Neverland Ranch is the most prominent example of an eccentric millionaire building their own rides, not sure if there was a rollercoaster though. The Sultan of Brunei built his own theme park with coasters, but he opened it to the public. Think it's been sold off now though...
