  1. Would it be wrong to say that with the Commonwealth Games coming to the Gold Coast in 2018, that the parks would be trying to install at least one new ride before that time to capitalise on the expected influx of tourists during this time period? At least it did state rides so we can at least be hopefull that does come true. "waiting for DW to announce new rides"....
  2. Has anyone thought to look through the GCCC meeting notes about permits. DW requires all rides to be given the ok from council due to the school and also a local height restriction (they needed special permits to build a lot of the taller rides in the park). Just a thought...
  3. Didn't think that I would see this thread pop up again...should have known better. Agreed that the park needs a maintenance crew to go over the entire park to start with, but just share a few thoughts I have had while walking the park with the family over the holidays. Remove or replace the SBNO attractions to allow for no wasted areas of the park. Remove the old water park area and the Big Brother attraction including the stage area. Allow a new section of the park to be expanded into this area, although they may be waiting for the Coomera Town Centre area to be built to give the park a second entry/exit in this area. Give the park a new attraction that is very Rare in the world or at least a new world first...this worked for the TOT and GD rides when opened and helped the park sustain high visitor levels for quite a while. We can only guess what the park will be getting or what their plans are of course....as always the first we will know of this is when ML submits plans through to council for approval, and then only if we can find them. Just a thought....
  4. I have been "missing" from the forums for a while (almost 4-5yrs now I think of it). I just bounce around the parks taking photos of the rides etc, although I am also involved in the construction industry in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Sadly most of the information I do know or find out, I can never say due to contract requirements....although most know me due to the photos I did of the Cyclone and Superman coasters under construction. Jobe....nice to be back, just work and family has taken my time in different directions over the last couple of years. All that aside, what I can say is this....don't you think that the parks would time any new major attractions in the next couple of years to maximise visitors to the state due to other reasons.....lets say something happening in 2018? Criptic I know, but that is as much as I can say at the moment.
  5. Go to www.wetnwild.com.au and click on the attractions tab and choose a ride. It will then bring up a tab with restrictions and just check that one out.....should be all ok.
  6. I too am a "big bloke" and I believe that there is only one ride at the park with a weight limit, and that is the looping slide, which I believe is either 120 or 125kg weight limit. Check on the parks site and as you click on each slide, it should tell you the restrictions for riding, if any. Cheers EDIT: Just confirmed that the Aqua Loop has a limit of 120kg...others don't have a weight limit as far as I can tell...
  7. Um, not wanting to put a holt to this thread and hoping Gazza or Joz can help me out with this answer...but isn't there still a flight path over the top of the theme park that limits rides below 100m in height? This was from the old tiger moth flights that use to take place down on the coast, however as they have stopped operation for the moment, not sure if the flight path is still in place.
  8. I read the statement as " We are planning to completely redo the entire Gold Rush area and will do this after we save the money we would have used for new attractions in the past 5yrs , but still need to wait another 5yrs to get the money."
  9. I always had hope that DW would build a large hyper style coaster in the old blue lagoon area, and now with the new style of S&S coaster, we can have a vertical lift hill to maximise space. I believe at one stage the Island, as well as the river at DW were under an environmental protection order...but not sure if this is still in place, so not sure if the island can be used. DW still have the old mine coaster area to use, and what to do here is anyone's guess. MW could mix things up along the rear boundary line of the park, but this area is currently used for prop storage and staff requirements. The option to open the access road behind the coasters has been looked at in the past and if this were to happen, the first sign is the relocation of the staff canteen in this area. WWW has DA approval for the expansion of the park, and these either last 1, 3 or 5 years depending on the fees you pay at the time of lodgement. They can also apply for an extension on the approval of works as long as the original design does not change. WNW has just had the new Constrictor slide open, and with Sydney WNW now open, the park may just sit back and see how the parks go over the current xmas period and then choose which park will get a new attraction, if any in the next 12 months. Sea World is a bit of a given at the moment so leaving this one out. Of course this is just my opinion and as we all know.....only time will tell what the parks do next. Oh, and its good to be back......
  10. It seems to be the way now where the construction has started and you are still getting updated plans for somethings that were finished two week prior. I am not at the same side of the business as you guys, more onsite delivering instructions to the guys at the company...lol. Just finished a job last week in Brissy, even though the final plans came through today. Back to topic, this park should be good for a number of reasons reguardless of the final layout. It should ease the amount of people at the Gold Coast parks over the summer months (I can only hope) and will allow a new place to visit for the aussies as well. And if all goes well and the park makes a great hit, you never know if another park might be rumored in Sydney for the future.....we can only hope i guess.
  11. I have the pictures of the ride before the refurb somewhere, but do remember that if you stand front on the drop didn't seem as bad in the pictures as if you take it from the side. I will try to find it before the weekend depending on work and post the two.
  12. It is nice to see some humor back on the site.... As far as the beer prices goes, can remember when a carton was under $20...those were the days.
  13. Sorry if this question is a little of topic, but didn't movie world submit to council plans to expand the park towards the road for retail and "thrill attractions" a while ago, but it was put on hold due to enviromental concerns. I would assume that the expansion is connected to that proposal and if so, would the plans have been submitted to council for the new attraction as yet? Just a thought.
  14. Just a thought....but could the big summer surprise be the long awaited expansion of whitewaterworld?? As I said, just a thought.
  15. Thanks for that Alex. In that case it would seem that they are indeed heading to the transformer station on the northern side of the park. I have spoken to alot of co-workers within the construction area around the parks today to see if i can get any more info as to the parks new attraction, but without luck. One or two seemed to know something about it but were quite tight lipped about it. On another unrelated topic, the electrical company I work within has been asked if we would be intrested in providing a price for any works in the carpark of one of the parks, but we have yet to see any paperwork come into the office at this stage. If anything comes in and I am able to let you know I will. I might try to get down to the parks on Sunday to see if i can help with the reports..
  16. Marking pegs seem to be laying out the current depth and location of both the high voltage lines coming into the park, and the low voltage (240v) lines perhaps going to the car park or signage lighting control. I will get some of the work crew I am currently supervising to have a look in the next couple of days as they are working in that area. I will let you know as soon as I can if i hear anything at all. Regardless it is good to see all the parks with construction taking place again, time to renew the passes I think.
  17. Not sure how it works now for a commerical buisness such as the Theme parks, but with any building works, regardless of where or on who's land, council has the last say if it can be built or not. I remember a delay happening for Dreamworld during the construction of the Cyclone as they required to get approval from the council for the height of the ride in that area (being next door to the school or something along those lines). I found this weird at the time, but after having to deal with the council for the last 10yrs in the building industry, nothing surprises me anymore. The council has the right to refuse your building permit if they find fault from the consultants, wether it be enviromental, structual or even if the local neighbours complain during the process. So to think that the park gets straigh forward approval for any ride construction would be an error in thinking. If you want an example of what i am talking about, go to the GCCC web site and search through the minutes for the Comera Town Centre. The amount of changes, hold ups, etc that the project has gone through so far would amaze some people. On that note, i will be taking a trip down to the park tomorrow and will send through to the admins any pics that i might find interesting to everyone on the site, fingers crossed I will hav some thing good. P.S...Sorry about the spelling, it's late and i am not thinking too well at the moment...LOL
  18. Thanks for those overlays guys....a lot easier than switching between the two open windows...lol. Having looked at the above pictures, I find myself asking one more question about the park. What to do with the old water park area. Now I know I am heading off topic here, but if the park was to expand the Dreamworld main park, they have the perfect area to perhaps increase the size of Gold Rush Country? Need to start this in another topic. With the location of AVPX, the only thing it seems to be blocking is the splash pool of the tower, not the actual tower, so I can't see why they couldn't add at least one more ride to the tower at a later stage. And after checking the overlay again, I can see at least two more stage area's that the park could work with in the future to add more attractions to WWW. Will have to have a chat with themeparkgc to see if we can get some more overlays to show what I mean. At least we know it can be done, and as I should be renewing my families passes again soon, I should be able to send Richard some nice pictures if anything pops up, something I haven't done since Superman Escape was under construction.
  19. Ok, someone help me out here. I have not been to the park since the AVPX attraction was build. Is this building made out of pre-poured concrete or a steel frame building, cause either way i can't see a building of that size costing millions. Maybe the tech inside the building would have, but not the building itself. With that in mind, what is to stop them from moving this to another building within the park as part of their long term plans. While I do doubt my own question on this, I remember the TOT entrance being moved only a couple of years after it was first opened to allow room for the new nick kids area. However, this is only an opinion and once again, only time will tell. Gogo....the plans for the expansion shows the events shed already built and allow for it's location. After checking the photo (thanks again to Themeparkgc for that) and the plans that we have all seen, it seems the slash pool for the mammoth rides would be in the area of the entry to the AVPX build and the rest seem to be out of the way. Could this be what the park had planned all along, as it is easier to move the entrance than the entire building...but then, why not do this at the start....damn my head is starting to hurt.
  20. Another quick question....how long ago did they stop using the old Thunderbolt area for a car park. I went past the parks this morning on the way down to the coast and did the normal drive by and noticed no cars in that area, but a lot of what i guess is the insides of the Vortex ride. Also down in the new maintenance (I think that is what it is) shed, I did notice some red track looking items, however this could also be safety rails due to the way they were stacked. Didn't have the camera with me but will remember to take it next trip. Any ideas on this? EDIT: After comparing the above photo and the plan from the GCCC web site, it looks like the splash pool for the new tower is right where the AVP building is now placed. The tower for the rids seems to sit to the right of the gate between both the parks as you look at the plan. Will be nice to see some construction happening again on the coast even if it is only for the water parks.
  21. Just a couple of things. Firstly about the Stage 2 expansion. I do believe this is still happening, but just going through the normal processes of a large construction job. The park has already had proslide do the planning for the new area as we have all seen the plans on this site. This alone requires some money to be outlaid for survey works to be done just to get the plans correct. It has now passed through council as of December of last year, only two months ago. So now the park will be ready to send out tenders for companies to do the work or something of that nature. The park knows what it wants to pay to do the work, but finding a company to meet that figure is the hard part, this is something I now get to deal with on a weekly basis and there is a lot of effort to cut prices to meet the customers requests. That been said, I think the first sign that the new area will be starting construction soon will be the closure of the Gravatron ride as the plans show the tower to be in that area. It might not be for more than 12-18 months still, but as we have found in the past with our local parks, only time will tell. Just something that I noticed on the above links, the plans for the superloop from Proslide are dated the 2nd of December. Can someone tell me when it was released that WnW would be getting the looping slide instead of WWW as I thought I read it was middle of December. That would mean that WWW had no plans to get a slide another company apart from Proslide? Food for thought...
  22. Just heard from a friend in the industry, the water park might still have life in it. He runs his own electrical buisness and is quoting on a new water park north of Brisbane. Not sure if this is the same park but will be trying to get a hold of him next week to find out more information. Will let you know as soon as I do. Will try to get a copy of the plans as long as it does not breach any contracts he may have in place at the moment.
  23. So it seems while i have had my head burried in work.....nothing has happened in the parks worthy of mention. That is a sad thing indeed as it was looking like a good year on the construction watch at one stage. Will ask some of my new contacts within the G.C.C.C to see if they have heard any news when i am down there next week. Can't and will not promise anything though, as i am in a new position within the company i work for, and these are only new contacts, but it never hurts to ask.
  24. Well first of all....I don't have a clue as to what is coming to the park. But after viewing the plan from the council site, and having a look at the first layout from the Mack site as to thier water coasters, the layout is identical. So I will have to agree with a privious post, and sit back and wait to see what happens. As allways, only time will tell....
