  1. Haha, Should have stayed in Melbourne, feel all left out now..... But this is fantastic news, and something Melbourne has been needing for years now. WVTP know what they are doing with respect to delivering high quality rides (Clearly they have done some visiting of BGA , so lets hope they were impressed by the B&Ms there) , so if the result is anything like Busch Gardens then there will be an instant winner on their hands (Though I hope they don't repeat the mistakes of Animal Kingdom in its early years...make sure there is enough to do) I think it is also promising that they are being conservative...1.3 million visitors sounds pretty realistic, so they aren't repeating the mistakes of fox studios I have always thought the weather argument was a load of crap, or else how do parks in the UK etc survive with their constant rain, and add to this the fact you can do stuff like build a roof over main st or put in indoor rides if you want to keep the rain at bay. Now I haven't lived in Qld long enough for this to be a fair statement, so shoot me down if you wish, but it seems to rain more often up here...now it is light rain, but still rain it is. The population of South East Queensland is roughly 2.6 Million, and can support 5 parks (Remember, the attendance of the GC parks is typically just over 50% locals. The population of Melbourne and Geelong is about 3.96 Million, and would be supporting just 2 parks. Melbourne wouldn't get the holiday makers that Queensland does, but this would be offset by the park having a larger pool of local visitors with little other options. Lets just hope this doesn't go the way of Studio City or WnW on the Sunshine Coast. So Coasterteen, you gonna be our source of photos while this thing is being built...we'll buy you a metcard to get there Can I also ask what sort of stuff was on sunrise? any images or rendering yet? And haha, they are saying it will rival Disneyland...think the writer was just getting a bit over the top, though then again they are from the herald sun.
  2. No, The tigers cubs when they were fetuses...
  3. ^It's also on Myfun now, so I guess It's set in stone enough for me. I don't have any commitments that Wednesday (The 30th), so I'll definitely be heading down for the last show.
  4. Yeah, I know its late. Anway, I think I may have found the place where a lot of the rides wound up, a place in Tingha, NSW called Green Valley Farm which has things like the spinning satellite dish, single rail shuttle coaster, one person see saw, giraffe ride ons in their injury inducing glory. I think a stop at this place if I were ever travelling in that part of the country is almost mandatory The following pics were stolen from a facebook group entitled "Who needs Dreamworld when there's Green Valley Farm" Haha I wanna go now.
  5. I hadn't posted about this till now, but I decided to try the Billabong Buffet when I was at DW (If I have the time I'll now try to eat at the proper restaurant in a park) $20 seemed bearable enough, considering I had seen the sorts of combos i'd buy for sale at the Motocoaster food outlet for $15 I wouldn't dine at the buffet again. Basically, I found the range in the buffet both limited, and a lot of the things on offer were just bland. Things that spring to mind include the noodles, which consisted of singapore noodles, some sort of soy sauce, and cabbage....and that was it (where's the beef?). They had plain steamed rice on offer, but nothing that you would really put with it, nor proper fried rice. The only meat options on offer were roast beef and roast carrots (pass for me) or roast chicken and potatos, but the potatos weren't seasoned or anything as you would expect from a proper buffet. Ill give them credit for having mud cake on offer, but the ice cream machine was down (with a sorry note) but no alternative was on offer. Plus it was dissapointing they didn't have some of those buffet staples, like potato bake, or chips, or pasta, or soup on offer. I didn't bother ordering drinks because they were just as overpriced as what you find out in the rest of the park, oh, and the Paper disposable tablecloths they used made it feel like you were eating at the kindy art table.
  6. Well, to be honest you are dealing with massive Disney crowds so I don't see how that differs much from what you get at a major sporting event, didn't phase me much anyway. I was actually quite suprised at the size of the grandstand, and it seemed pretty well set up with stairs etc. My tip is to use fastpass for the shows so you can rock up whenever and sit down easily. So, once the date is fully confirmed (ie. by the park) anyone reckon we should do a meet to see the very last show?
  7. Dunno. It's a bit rich for a whole group of people to try and get a refund for just one of them becoming sick, when it is after all a spin and spew ride. To me they sound like the sort of bogans you see in shops or fast food joints making a big fuss and demanding free stuff for small inconveniences (rather than allowing it to be offered) and firmly believe they can be unreasonable as they want because "the customer is always right". It could all come down to how the situation was handled though, I mean if you are in a situation like that where you are outnumbered it would be wise to try and diffuse the situation, but I'm guessing the victim didn't really do that. Still, I'm inclined to say the group was in the wrong....there isn't ever justification for using a knife in what amounts to a trivial situation.
  8. They are where the animals used in the AOS graze.
  9. Personally I have a preference for parks to play atmospheric music rather than anything you hear on the radio. Helps make the place a bit more escapist.
  10. So in the 7th pic down, what is that massive expanse of gravel, Im guessing its parking for production staff, but for me, its just begging to have something good built on it.
  11. ^Guest relations can usually confirm this sort of stuff if you give them a ring.
  12. If you have a look, the time when T-Bone made his post was very close to yours, so I'm guessing T-Bone was typing his question as you were answering it. No need to go 'duh'ing him. As for this "lattace" (sic) , is anyone else getting a mental image of a similar sort of roofing to what is seen in the SE queue and the arcade. Is any of it actually built yet?
  13. I wonder who it is that thinks those tacky backdrops look good?
  14. The park has a ton of space on which to build. Obviously they would have enough land to build these things, or why would they waste time and money having a master plan drawn up, and in fact ordering these rides if they didn't have a place to put them. More to the point, how would they get council approval if they didn't have the land to put these things in. As for the money, they could be using their own savings, borrowing it from the bank or whatever, they have had a very successful summer, and water slides aren't that expensive, so I'm sure they can afford it. And can you please start writing like a normal person?
  15. Hey, It's not just DW http://www.polytechnic.com.au/projects/war...stein/index.htm http://www.polytechnic.com.au/projects/dre...agoon/index.htm http://www.polytechnic.com.au/projects/dre..._claw/index.htm And there is plenty more where that came from....
  16. Good idea hey? If it would be a similar type of coaster to the mine train at DW, then i dont see the point, Scooby Doo is quite similar....its little cars racing around tight turns in the dark right? At the end of the day they are both mad mouse type coasters, the only difference is what the theme is. I'd rather see them explore coaster types we cant yet experience here.
  17. ^Well, its your loss since you are skipping the park with the best coasters and theming. But its not really 'his' work, he wasn't the only person to work on the construction, nor did he pay for it, nor does he own it, nor did he design it. At the end of the day its owned by Warner Village, and they have the right to whatever they please with their property. And anyway, DW have been doing far worse stuff for years to their park in terms of ruining the ambience of certain areas, such as Rivertown.
  18. Yeah, but you are assuming that it would be accelerating at that rate for a full second, but it doesn't have to at all, like I said, it is the peak acceleration...it could only be doing it for a fraction of a second, but it would still have to do it for some period or else how are people pulling 4 gs? You asked for the acceleration of the ride, so I gave it, if it is "slowing down as soon as it is launched" then it isn't accelerating is it? Edit, should have I subtracted off the vector of gravity? In that case the peak acceleration would be 29.4ms^-2
  19. Well, if it pulls 4g then the peak acceleration would be 39.2 ms^-2 As for taller versions, they do exist such as Power Tower at Cedar Point (73m high...12m taller) I dont know how viable it would be to extend the MW one...I mean if the foundations and existing tower segments were strong enough, I guess it could be done.
  20. I hope they use the same roofing material as to what is used in the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane. It seems to be more translucent as opposed to transparent, so it avoids the issues of becoming like a hot muggy greenhouse, while at the same time providing protection from the sun.
  21. But who would review it? How could you adequately determine who is enough of an authority on a given subject to oversee all changes? How could all 2 million articles get a dedicated reviewer on board? To me it would just slow down the dynamic nature of the site, and would be a nightmare with articles that cover time sensitive subject matters. Well, that right there is it's greatest problem, but at the same time its greatest asset. People have a huge amount of knowledge they can impart so anything other than a free use approach would hamper what has made the site so sucessful in the first place. I don't really have a problem with the current system...people can mess it up, but it can be just as easily fixed...Important articles are locked to unregistered and new users so the main things people rely on are left alone anyway. I find it quite annoying the number of threads we get on stupid Wikipedia artices. If something seems off, then fix it and nobody needs to know, rather than drawing attention to it.
  22. ^Because No Limit has lower capacity, so I guess they offset that by charging more per ride.
  23. ^To be fair though, a lot of Disneys Imagineers aren't exactly young (Well, the one I have spoken to wasn't), and they manage to turn out the best of the best (Though then again, Disney don't do many thrill rides)
  24. There was an article in todays Sunday Mail which I thought would be of interest to people here: It's nice to know they do a decent amount of research, but it is frustrating that this doesn't seem to translate into those killer rides we really want to see. At the same time I never realised that Mr Tan had been at Dreamworld for so long...Good choices seem to have been made by him in the past, but I think the limited capital budgets of recent years have put a dampener on the impressive stuff that has 'made' the park in the past.
  25. I think the point Terri is getting at is not to recreate Disneyland, but rather raise the profile of Australia Zoo as a place people would hold similar aspirations to visit. Aussie Kid: I wanna go to America to visit Disneyland! American Kid: I wanna to to Australia to visit Australia zoo. Of course, that sounds like wishful thinking (As DJ said) and at the end of the day its just a zoo, which IMO is a format a bit harder to elevate. With a theme park, there is pretty much no limit to how good you could make an experience and how inventive you want to be...with a zoo, you can basically make the exhibits look nicer and that's about it. I don't think we will be seeing Snake Mountain, Steve Irwin Adventure: Temple of the forbidden eye, or "it's a wild world" any time soon. Really to me, it will be a glorified effort to go after the overseas market. Can you give a link to that article?
