  1. That is US dollars... you need to take into account the exchange rate...
  2. So i am lost... how do we know that www.sixflagsgreataustralia.com has been registered. How do we know it is in Melbourne? I would be surprised if Six Flags would expand here since they have been so busy off loading parks. Since macquarie leisure is perfomring quite well i would think it possible we may see something big at Dreamworld... but i would not be holding our breath for a B&M. They are just too expensive you would be looking at 30 - 40 million dollars... for something small. Considering how much they spent on the Tower of Terror which was seen as a massive expansion... and to be honest it saved Dreamworld's butt... something like a B&M would be atleast twice this cost... and since Dreamworld is performing and is in no need of a massive injection of capitol to win back guests they would not spend mega bucks on something this big when it is not neccessary.
  3. I think they should put in a Screamin Swing.... a big one! It could go either way on the upcharge, they do have low capacity. Two of the 8 seaters next two each other would be same capacity as Batwing so hmmm i reckon it would be a solid addition. Get rid of that awful old Thunderbolt building and out thw swing there with entrance to Whitewater wordl wear the gravatron is.
  4. QUOTE: 'I would not call it an amazing invention I prefer a pace maker or a bionic ear as an amazing invention'. I thought this was a forum for Theme Parks and rides not medical forum? As far as crowd crontrol goes and virtual queing name one other invention in this field that performs the same task. Being at Six Flags Great Adventure with one actually meant i got to go on most things.. without it i would have been hard pressed to get on half the rides. A device that allows me to view all rides and the times i can virtually queue for them along with reserve my spot from anywhere in the park... i call that pretty unique... wouldn't mind being the company that thought of it and a re reaping the benefits. QUOTE: 'When guest brought there annual passes last year they where not informed that the value from the park would be reduced unless they spent more money'. Mute point, it is standard practise with all 'anuual passes', concert tickets, anything like that, that the promoter can change features of the purcahsed product at their discretion. What about people that buy a three park superpass and on the day that they go to Movieworld Superman is not working and they don't get to ride it? All theme parks reserve the right to close and open attractions where they see fit, which etexnds to pening hours, entry price.. and sorry add-ons like Q4U. They are well within their right to add them against their annual pass holders.
  5. It is ridiculous to think that introducing Q-Bots is queue jumping. It is an amazing invention and simply gives consumer more choice. When entering a theme park you enter on the theme park terms... you don't like it... pay for the Q-Bot or don't go to the park. I was at Six Flags Great Adventure and New England in August last year and used them the whole day... once society is introduced to a new idea, feature, product, ticketing option they are afraid... becuase society is afraid of change. Is it fair that people with Visa cards in some cases can purchase tickets to concerts earlier then the public? is it fair that people who are a member of the RACQ get into Dreamworld early? Life isn't fair... money talks... you got the bucks you get the perks.. easy as that.
  6. This is why they called it economic crisis. Unfortunately no business is immune to the effect of the down turn in the economy. Lets all hope that this 1.8% off lay offs is all that will happen. More importantly lets hope that Warner pulls through the crisis and is stronger for it, not perish and dissappear like alot of tourism will in the coming years. It is awful that it is Christmas but truthfully there is never a good time to lay workers off, but as a business if they are not getting the numbers to have a successful summer or Christmas you have to cut costs and the most efficient and effective way to do this is in payroll. I couldn't imagine the storms are helping attendance at all.
  7. I have a feeling that the coaster will be launced on boxing day... a very popular time to launch new summer attractions. With so much construction already complete i would be very surprised if it will take more then a couple more months to finsih and test the actaul ride leaving more then enough time to construct elaborate themeing. I beleive the area at the back at least will have a taller rock face to cover the Seaworld back of house area. The track layout is looking good especially when comparing it to MDMC. Overall length i would suspect to be longer then MDMC at least, definately longer then Corkscrew.
  8. Does anyone else think that they may have designed the double launch so they could have multiple trains on the track? I mean if the have studied MDMC like we all have and singled out all Inefficiencies. You can already see that by using a simpler restraint system they have put more thought into capacity. MDMC is disgusting... it should never run with one train it is just ridiculous. If they use the two launches like Maverick, a train could pull into the second launch and wait until the train in the station launches.. once it has the train on the second launch could go.. by having a break run mid trip i beleive makes the system fail safe and thus doable. Imagine if they had three trains.. you could unload one while loading the other as the third is launched. Even if the trains where say only 20 people at a time you could be cycling atleast twice as many people as MDMC... maybe evern more considering there is no complicated seating arrangements. Jet Ski Rescue might not be our NEXT MASSIVE COASTER... but it is certainly a much more dignified attractin compared to the embarrasing MDMC... i was not surprised at all when it came in as the second worst coaster in the world... Jet Ski Rescue really proves to me so far that Warner have a very good understanding of their customer... kids want something more then a wippy gimic and adults don't like being lied to through marketing.... BIG 6 yeah right!! I had more fun on the back of my mates scooter going to work the other day then being on MDMC. Okay rant over and out...
  9. After being on the East Coast TPR tour and experiencing a tone of roller coaster types that i have never been on before i definately think a floorless coaster or a B&M Dive machine like griffon. Either would be a brilliant choice... They are both a more intense ride then a conventianl sit down and very marketable as it would be an Australian first. Since they are not as complex as a 4th dimension or as BIG as a Hyper Coaster it would be an affordable option. Movieworld has the western building sitting unused which could be gutted and used as the building for the new coaster. Just like Superman i would use an internal cue line, but weave it underneath the actual coaster thats weaves in and out of the building. I would also try and develop with B&M a launched lift hill... fatser dispatch times but still not as complex or intense as the superman launch. After the amazing success of Superman which is a top rated ride on the world charts an awesome feat for an aussie park i would definately develope a short dark ride section. When i was explaining the superman dark ride section to the TPR guys they where interested as the majority of their thrill rides in the US are very under whelming when it comes to themeing etc. its is bascially an open air que-line and the ride, no story or anything. Movieworld could also remove the current Batman simulator and replace with a coaster.. update the mansion facade and the internal etc. possibly even enclose the Batwing... With the current domination of gaming in our entertainment indusrty these days i would be more inclined to theme the ride after a game. Something like Resident Evil... Halo... Anyway just a thought...
  10. Hmmm no random rant today.... too busy at work. But oh no... not a shade sail... i am having terrifying visions of bad Westfield Parking lots with those awful off white shade sails all over the place... But i guess that does make sense in a way considering this is an Aussie theme park and a fully enclosed roof would be costly but not only that would trap the heat... the enclosed roofs like in the Disney parks are for cold wheather to keep out the rain and the cold wind... a shade sail would give shade but breathe allowing a breeze to flow through the area. If it is a shade sail as long as it's not an off white one :-)
  11. I will be honest and say that Dreamworld and MaQuarie really worry me with Dreamworld.... they have been making some very poor desicions lately but.... WVTP have been impressing me with what they are doing... so i am not so worried about the roof anymore. I think if anything the roof will also now enable them to use Main Street as a better conference venue etc. Lighting an staging can easily be rigged off the roofs supports now. Movieworld's as conference and event space is amazing. Maybe we will see more night events at Movieworld? As for Seaworld... i mean the water coaster opening in the future and the expansion plans with the government is one thing but waiting for Dreamworld to make their move and then watching them blunder BIG TIME.... then learning from their LAUGHABLE mistake now means they are building something that i think will do what Dreamworld was trying with Mick Doohan. Mick Doohan only needed a few simple tweeks and it would have been passable but the JetSKI coaster sounds fantastic... especially if they treat it as a family/kid attraction. As long as Movieworld creates a decent new show and have some big plans for another big attraction in the not too distant future i am happy to see them doing so well now.. Anyway random rant!!!
  12. Sounds like this will be a pretty decent roller coaster after all..... sometimes patience and positive thinking really pays off. I knew Dreamworld where just bluffing with all the 'Just a family aatraction', good idea though helps to give the competition, Movieworld, a bum steer.... YAY cant wait for September opening!!!
  13. I think what we are looking at is the brake run, no one would be moronic enough to not bank the first turn of a lunched coaster. I think the launch will run parrallel with the TOT from where you can see the transfer track for the second coaster. I think we all need to calm down a bit be a little more optomistic.... if we all sit here an bag it out and expect the worse, then we will get the worst.... and face it we will never see a massive B&M Dive machine... we just wont. we need to be happy with what we have got.... if you don't like it save up some money and go overseas and ride the big stuff :-) thats what i am doing... if you cant beat em join em i say!!
  14. In a Waterpark especially i would rather less themeing and more rides. i would believe this would have been the case with the H20 expansion. everyone needs to remember that our parks do not have the same budgets to spend on capital expansion like the US parks do. Since the competition has heated up between Dreamworld and WVTP i am not surprised that some aspects of the new expansions have gone by the way side - it makes sense to cull elaborate themeing to keep costs down. Besides attendance has been quite strong at all theme parks over the past year with all the new attractions being added with the outback spectacular now doing two shows on selected nights. For me it appears that the theme parks are giving the general public that visits their parks what they want. Who are we to argue with their success? The major US parks, Six Flags being the major contributor, have all stated that they do not intend on continuing to buy and build massive US$30 million plus attractions.
  15. Spend about 10 minutes on this page and i think it may help change your mind: http://www.rideaccidents.com/coasters.html Pay close attention to the years: 1983, 1988.
  16. I am appauled that someone would risk not only their own safety but the safety of inocent by standers as well. I think this thread should be deleted and the offending forum member given a first and final warning.
  17. I wouldn't be to concerned with water etc anymroe, the El Nino effect is weakening and we will begin to have more rainfall and by June/July should have weakend enough to completely break the drought. We are already feeling the weakened effect here in Queensland - we have had the coolest December in over 40 years apparently and January is continuing along the same pattern of temperature - it just isn't hot like last year.
  18. The looney Tunes ride was awesome, but unfortunately Warners Brothers has lost to Nickelodeon in the programing wars. I wouldn't be suprised if half the kids you talk to today have no idea who half the WB characters on the ride are. Charlie and the Choclate Factory is such a popular movie that it would still make sense to build the ride even if the remake wasn't made. Sets or recreations from the movie would fit perfectly. Even if there could be a pre-show brining you into the choclate room before the boat ride. The choclate that they used for the movie would easily be re-created in a form suiting to long term public use. Since this would need to be a ride built in a Soundstage this would fit brilliantly at the back of the park next to Wild West Falls. They could create a new world themed around the town from the movie.

  20. Whinge Whinge Whinge - this site is fast ecoming a bore to keep up with. I always beleive you should be thankful for what you are given. I would much rather a 4 million dollar attraction given a 4 million dollar attractions worth of theming and keep the massive 'pre-show' and in Supermans case 'dark ride' story section for the rides that are acutally worth builidng all that for.
  21. Unfortunately with housing building up around the park at the back Movieworld is forced to keep the larger and louder attractions to the front. Thats why there is a barrier along one side of Wild West Falls - to block out the sound from neighbouring residents. The ultimate would be for an expantion into the back part of the park in the form of a massive Rollercoaster contained inside an enormous soundstage; for example THe Mummy at Universal Studious. One way to reduce the cost of building such a large soudstage is to build the ride below ground level reducing the height of the building required. This is not out of the question for an Australian theme park. One thing to consider though is the lack of visuall appeal - but just look at Wild West Falls, that is in itself is just a smaller akward shaped soundstage with a highly detailed and landscaped face. How awesome would it be to see a massive B+M Dive Machine (one of the few types of roller costers left tat we here in oz dont have) shooting in and out of a massive themed soundstage.
  22. Dreamworld's Car park is larger then before they built WWW, they have created a vast number of new spaces to the left hand side, whilst barely taking any away from the construction of WWW. There was just overgrown grass in these areas previously. Dreamworld may not yet own the land to the right hand side of WWW, but i wouldn't be surprised if this is where we see them expand. The road currently in the way could easily be redirected around the other side of the service station and besides if you where the owner of the land you would be insane not to sell it to DW. The comment that WWW was not built to take over the market, just to crack it, is quite naive. When your in the heat of battle playing against someone in sport do you go... i wont try my hardest to win; its just good enough playing - hell no - i play to win and everyone knows that Dreamworld of all the parks in Australia are in it to win it, their heart is purely business. Why do you think they let there themeing get so run down.
  23. I thought Superman was thememed brilliantly - name one ofther roller-coaster in our country that has even attempted a 'Dark ride' beggining like Superman has done. Besides i would rather see more rides built with less detailed thememing, then one ride every 3 years with the most elabroarte and expensive themeing.
  24. i think the Saw franchise really deserves a ride - we wont see it here (not WB). But you could make something pretty awesome. Dark ride, walk through, Dive machine, second launch.....
  25. Superman Escape has easily the bes themeing i have ever seen, i would bet on the fact that there is no coaster in the US tha uses anywhere near the same level of dark ride type themeing that Movieworld has. US roller coasters have some of the most ridiculous excuses for names and stories. Kingda Ka, X, Top Thrill......... Disaster Transport - What is that meant to be? US roller coasters are get on and go. i cant wait for Dreamworld and Movieworld to put in their next massive coasters - what wil they do next? I would love to see Movieworld do an enclosed coaster like the Mummy ride at the back of the park, but with several elements, they could use the themed enclosed soundstage as a walk through, then put you on the coaster - this would solve their problems with sound at the back of thr park. Imagine a Dive machine, straight out the top of the building - then plunge straight back in again. Anyway anyway :-)
