Movie World new ride: JUSTICE LEAGUE: Alien Invasion 3D.
qldtaw replied to mba2012's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The MovieWorld sound stages and ride/show buildings are not unlike a commercial warehouse structure. For something that houses the likes of the Looney Tunes River Ride you would be looking at anywhere between 5-10 million. I reckon the Batman structures would be $4 - $5million. I work for a company and we just moved into a new facility which includes office space and a lot of IT infrastructure. The building is 250m long by about 60m wide. Our facility cost a little over $20million. The sucky thing is the Batman building is small but more importantly really weirdly shaped. Will be really exciting to see how Movieworld adapts the building. Will there be an all new facade for example for Wayne Manor.- 778 replies

I think Po's Garden must ne replacing the lair... the Madagascar and Shrek areas would fully replace all of the Nick area... And Po's Garden seems to be just that... a garden no mention of rides... They could maybe keep some of the rock facades already there and then theme around it...

Its a good ride but i think you are giving it far more credit then it now really deserves. I certainly would not call Bermuda Triangle the star attraction of SeaWorld. I think that crown would belong to the Imagine Dolphin Show....

From memory what i heard about Surfrider was they delayed the instalation to test the viability of the coaster being installed into Wet N Wild instead of Seaworld. Whitewater World was only still just opened and Surfrider was was placed into Wet N Wild to concrete their dominance of biggest and best water park. The installation of the ride was seen as an experiment installing a more traditional theme park ride into a water park. It paid off for them in the end, it still gets a massive line up. I reckon you could put a roller coaster into Wet N Wild and it would go off! I dont really like many other water parks around the world have attempted this. Makes you feel proud that our parks whilst small and limited in budgets etc. can still stand tall and proud on the world stage. -
Your missing the point... it doesnt matter what they are saying about Green Lantern... its the fact that that the large majority of posts on their Facebook is about Green Lantern. They are not posting about Batman or Looney Tunes... because they dont care about those rides any more. Rides are exactly the same as movies. They are at their hottest when they first released into cinema. Then they get a second stab at the market with a DVD release... then after that the movie fades into the background. Sometimes a movie is good enough that it gets some TLC and a re-release and additional interest is created. (Sound familiar.... Lethal Weapon perhaps?) Most are long forgotten as the mass market continues to be excited and driven by New Release. Rides are exactly the same.

Are you kidding? You are using Facebook to base your argument? Movieworld have 15,682 followers with an engaged audience of 1692.... Last i recall their annual attendance was around 1.4million a year So there Facebook would represent 0.01% of their customers..... Hardly a true representation of the larger audience of the park. I reviewed every post on the Movieworld Facebook page back to the 1st of January 2012.... I would go further but this took long enough as it was. This is all i found... no complaints just 2 questions regarding Batman. January 10: Movieworld, would you be able to tell us maybe when the old batman ride will be replaced with something else or what it might be tehe ?January 5: Do you still have Batman The Ride at movie world? I didn't really like that ride. So lets project some exaggerated figures. Even if there were the following complaints daily over a year period: - 5 on Facebook - 5 over the phone - 5 via email - 20 in park - A total of 35 complaints a day or 12775 a year That would still only account for 0.009% of customers complaining. I think this evidence supports my claim.... In fact their Facebook is littered with people talking about Green Lantern... funny that.

Great post AlexB.... finally someone who gets it! People if you are not happy with the way VRTP management a running the parks get off your but... go work for them... spend many years climbing the corporate ladder to higher management and then show them a thing or two. At the end of the day they ARE a profitable business and continue to weather the current ecconomic climate. You may not like what you perceive them to be doing... but sorry currently their strategies are working. I totally disagree people are sheep they are told what to watch, what to eat and what to ride. Close something and they just go and do something else. Not the other way around. Theme Park enthusiats would be 0.XX percent of the total theme park annual attendance figures. We are the only ones that care about closed rides.... These three rides are long forgotten by the general public... i really don't see anyone giving a hoot that they are gone. I reckon if you surveyed 100 people off the street and asked them what they thought about each ride they wouldn't even know what you were talking about. Ask them about Green Lantern or Superman Escape and i reckon you would get a more favourable response.

I trully dont understand dark rides of these nature anymore especially with Universal creating a new standard of dark rides that actullay have a core thrill component. AKA Spiderman, Harry Potter and Transformers. I think of all attractions these are the ones that have been left largely un-developed. Sure Tokyo Disney's Honey Hunt is fantastic and like Universal is trying to evolve the dark ride concept. But why MW would re-build a standard boat dark ride just doesn't make sense to me. I find the story telling so one dimensional and the experience completely stagged and controlled. I just dont think from my perspective MW would have the budget big enough to really do a big modern dark ride. I have a gut feeling we will be something other then dark rides in these spaces.

I passed out completely on Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure... i was on a TPR trip so i was exhausted and dehydrated from days of partying and no sleep. We had a really short amount of ERT ahead of the public which actually made it worse! We got sent once and i greyed out over the crest of the tower... Once we came back into the station the general public were all running to queue as the park had opened. The op came over the loud speaker and said they would send us one more time, so our harnesses were all re-checked and BOOM! I passed out as we rushed along the launch and my mate next to me said i was dead weight flying through the crest, which looked hilarious, like a rag doll! I came too just as the coaster was leaving the end of the top hat.... all i could see was the curve of the track and the ground. It was one of the most terrifying things i have experienced... when i was coming too i had no idea where i was. I am said that i wasted my bonus 2nd ride on Kinda Ka!

The longest i have waited in an Aus park would be 2.5 hours for Scooby Doo... My best friend from Vic was up during school Holidays 2009/20010... we went on the day they posted the highest attendance ever... the queue's were insane for everything we only got on 3 rides and saw Hollywood Stunt Driver. The shortest would be during a work event at both MW and DW all the major rides were walk on. I cant wait to do that again in the future when MW is back at full capacity for rides. But by far the craziest queue i have ever been in was for Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. We had waited hours to get to the front of the queue and it broke... i had front seat. There was no way in hell we were leaving! We were already on the coaster but behind an empty train... so we were allowed to stay sitting in the coaster. We waited so long that i fell asleep on the lap bar... and ended up getting badly sunburnt. After 4 HOURS! They sent the empty train to test... and then it was good to go. After sleeping for about 45minutes it was an interesting experience being launched half asleep!

Maybe Movieworld is going to not just replace Looney Tunes but give the Kids section an entire face lift. The last few years of investment has all been in rides/show for teens, families and adults, nothing really for kids. Maybe its why Marvin the Martian broke and was not replaced, maybe more cost effective to remove it in preparation for demolishing everything and startin again, That would be a massive capitol investment, which is why they have needed to wait until 2011 was finished and GL launched. -
I have long gotten over the thrill of inversions, give me speed and airtime anyday. I have ridden the Great Nor'Easter at Morey's Pier's with the new SLC trains which have a padded chest harness minus the headrest. Trust me... while you might loose the headache it does little to rescue the coaster. I don't like the feeling of the coaster car shaking violently and at times feeling as though it is being forced through the track. If only we could get our very own inverted B&M! Buttery smooth and full of forces! While i don't think we should remove it, i certainly think it is long behind a long list of much better more customised and unique coasters in Aus.

Maybe it will be themed to a couple of Batmans villains, its not uncommon for Batmans foes to work together. -
The person i spoke to was their PR Manager.

I spoke with one of the MovieWorld team members about the logo during the media event. The plan is to keep it solid while the ride is new and there is a high circulation of photos of the logo. The logo is capable of displaying patterns in sequences and will do so in the future. They want to avoid any photos of the logo incomplete for the time being. Plus i think it will be good i the future when it does start doing something new. Hmmm i should have also asked if the vehicles are able to do the same... i am sure they are. Will be a good coaster to ride at night.... i hope they have some awesome green effect lighting for the plaza area as well.

Good feedback.... was the first video we cut together for a ride... POV's are not quite our specialty. I have watched it a few time and agree... is a bit of an interruption. However this video was cut for our Facebook followers, not roller coaster enthusiasts.

I guess i see the logo adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience with the Theme Park not just one ride. The lantern faces the highway so it creates excitement and interest for people driving past.... Plus it creates anticipation for guests arriving in the park in the morning... Each to their own i guess....

POLL - What Theme Park would you like to see in Australia?
qldtaw replied to Thrillrulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think we have buckley's chance of getting a park in Melbourne it seems their government and council think this is a tacky Qld thing and have knocked back a couple of planned theme park projects. To be honest i don't think something like a thrill park would suit Melbourne, maybe a Movie Studio with theme park type tie in. Something like a Busch African Safari World would much better suite Sydney, larger population to cater for larger attractions. The Melbourne crowd i cant see supporting something like this. However Perth would be a great place for someone to invest in a large scale park. Currently the East Coast of Aus really does have enough theme parks to cater for the local and out of state population. Perth is on the other side of Aus and has closer proximity to Asia. Our largest amount of tourism is from Asia. I don't think we can ever expect to build a park large enough with enough of a profile to attract large numbers from Eurpe or the US, we are just too far and expensive. I really think a Disney Adventure Park in Perth would be spot on. Disney would need to by pass the traditional Magic Kindgdom type park and just concentrate on solely building a custom Disney park. Include animal attrations and shows with a conservative number of Magic Kingdom inspired attractions, with some simpler thrill rides in an area like the pier in Calfornia Adventure LA. Dependng on the success of the first stages if the Australiana side of the park works then expand the park to be more of an Disney Australia Adventure. Imagine Mickey wearing authentic aussie kit, like a Jackroo hat and a swag! I know its lame Australiana..... but if it gets us a new park hell yeah! Imagine the love affair with Australia, which a lot of the world has, mixed with the love affair of Disney.... minus another magic kingdom.... boring... they need to stop that! Hong Kong Disneyland really needed to be something completely different. I am glas that the consortium investing in Shanghai Disney have said all attractions must have a point of difference. -
VIllage Roadshow Studios Gold Coast 2018
qldtaw replied to Jamberoo Fan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I beleive with the securing of the bid not only will the sound stages be used but they will have alot of temporary stadum structure built inside them also with an upgrade to the external of the buildings, inclduing an entrance exit plaza area. There will be a bit of cash to ensure they look good since it is the Commonwealth Games. I beleive our Studio Tour was doomed from the start, not enough active productions and also very expensive to do much more with the trams then what they already did. The Batman studio thing was just lame along with the sound effects stage etc. Our tram cant do much more then drive people from place to place, Unviersal is custom building the attractions that interact with the tram, AKA the earthquake set and King Kong. The universal studio tram tour is an epic ride unto itself. The King Kong 360 addition would have cost them millions. The ride would by now have run into the 10's of millions to build all of the set pieces, in addition to the massive cost to maintain. Sadly this type of attraction we just cant afford. Talking about the Commonwealth Games the GCCEC will also be hosting sport in their Arena, with the entire exhibition halls being converted into a media centre. The halls which are 6345 square metres is having a massive temporary mezzanine floor structure built into it to make the halls 2 story. -
Agree 100% with you. Movieworld especially is very clever with what they do and certainly maintain their attractions above and beyond any thrill type park in the US. Dreamworld i would say is on par with Six Flags and Cedar Fair, build it big and flashy and then let it waste away only focusing on the new. They do this as this is the only way to continue driving forward with captial expenditure. MW has a more conservative number of attractions but invest more both up front and on going. If i rode Superman Escape and the large effects in the dark ride section were not on i would be dissappointed, but they arent. I think Movieworld would be looking at the scale of effect something not being there would be for the overall enjoyment of the ride. I have always thought that the Superman Escape plaza would look amazing with some tall city buildings that the coaster would dart through. Maybe we will see more theming like this throughout the entire area with the potential for Lethal Weapon to also be updated with a DC Comics theme.

I think what Movieworld has shown with Green Lantern is their ability to adapt with their surroundings. Which they have done with all the other great attractions they have added over the years. From the photos i have seen Green Lantern fits very well into the space they have allocated it. The themeing that they have planned uses the environment to add to the attraction. What they did with Superman Escape and Scooby is fantastic but the location of the attractions lend themself to the type of themeing they created. Superman replaced the Studio tour so there where vacant sound stages to install the ride into and hence a dark ride section was created. Plus the sound stages were already constructed, there was no need to budget as part of the attraction the construction cost for new sound stages. Movieworld has strict sound regulations at the back of the park, AKA the scream shield on the side of Wild West Falls. The only vacant space in the park for GL was at the front, sure they could have enclosed the station like Scooby and Superman, but haven't they already done that?
-
Definitely agree there it would have cost more... more so just making the comparison now that the coaster is almost complete... Taking into account everyones doubting and blowing the gun on Buzzsaw has better themeing argument. I think people need to reserve a bit more time before making judgement. Rome want built in a day... I love that the classic Movieworld attention to detail is still present here. Like the odd shape they cut out of the wall as you leave the park... which matches the odd shape of the storyboards.

It might not have the more spectacular theming and entry station like Superman Escape, but i think for being an outside ride the theming is really good. Nice to see a long interesting queue rather then just a heap of walk backs. And with the icing on the cake of the Green Lantern logo on the coaster that lights up i think this smokes Buzzsaw. I think Buzzsaw is missing some key elements that Green Lantern appears to have done much better. (I say appear as i missed my chance to go on it and have not experienced it first hand yet, so judging my pictures only... work ughhh!) - Buzzsaw whilst being very prominent at the front of the park and adding to the Dreamworld skyline and having a giant saw blade at the bottom of the ride doesnt go that one step further to create something iconic. I mean Dreamworld tower is more interesting at night thanks to the recently added LEDs. - GL is also at the front of the park but i think it is much more of an icon for Movieworld with the iconic light up logo on the top of the attraction as well as the light up icons on the cars. I think Movieworld has really shown they are on the cutting edge with the added features of GL. - Buzzsaw noticeably has been placed at the front of the park taking up some space left by the helicopter pad and still feels very 'added on'. - GL appears to have more successfully integrated the ride into the existing Batman plaza, taking advantage of the need to leave the park, creating an interesting walkway. It would be great to see them also create some interesting lighting effects through the walkway at night. Could they have goe as far as some green lighting for that whole GL area inclduing the coaster? Would look epic. - Buzzsaw had a VERY vague initial storyline that was ditched once the ride opened.... why? - GL appears to have nicely intergrated a stroyline into the ride storybook style.
-
I would rather the mist effect used for Superman Escape to run its course and not be replaced once it is due for replacement to open up funding that can be allocated to Green Lantern to give it as many themeing and effects as possible for its opening and subsequent 'high profile' years of operation before a new attraction becomes the new hotness. I think when Movieworld maintenance is reviewing ride maintenance programs these would be the determining factors in replacing and continuing effects like this. Xcelerator at Knotts was okay, strong launch but terrible end... i much prefer Superman Escape, much more creative with the sir time hills after the launch. Sad to say but after travelling lots of park and coasters in the US alot of their rides are very generic, the yanks don't have the same attention to detail like we do with lots of stuff. Of course theres exceptions like Disney and Universal but our thrill parks in comparison with theirs AKA Six Flags and Cedar Fair, fair much better. Besides i think we need to be more creative because we cant just drop multi millions of dollars on massive coasters, we need to stretch the dollar further.

Arkham Asylum: Shock Therapy (Lethal Weapon Retheme)
qldtaw replied to ads086's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think in the case of Warner Brothers Movieworld its safe to say that the companies focus is not around mantaining the ingregity of the attractions relating to the name of the theme park, but rather continuing to invest into the park with suitable attractions that relate to the overall theme, hence generating attendance and sales... The vast majority of the general public do not distinguish entertainment products by specific brands, studios/distributors etc. The general customer of Movieworld would not recognise that Shrek is not Warner Brothers. It has no effect on that customers purchasing descsion. Heck i cant see how it would have that much bearing on any customers purchasing descsion. I cant think the last time i purcahsed a movie over another because of the studio that distributed produced it.
